I do not own anything but my plot and my characters. This story will only loosely follow the anime/manga, so be prepared for deviations and only snippets of events we have all seen and read a million times. Please enjoy and review!
London has an extraordinary amount of dark haired men with blue eyes. Elena, dressed in blood stained royal blue dress and black hood, wipes her hand off on a white handkerchief, having just finished her 6th contract for the year. For as pompous as the people in this country are, it made for hateful grudges and lots of feeding for her. The woman she had just killed lies at her feet, still bleeding out. Her contract, a man she hadn't bothered remembering the name for, had wanted the woman dead for marrying his brother instead of him. Such petty, petty people she runs into in her travels.
"Mew," her kitty cat, Belle, says from her spot on the near by shelf. The glowing blue eyes peer up at her questioningly. Her fluffy white coat bristling with impatience.
"He's here somewhere, mia Bella. I can feel it. I am so serenely... hungry." Elena's eyes flash red as she finishes her sentence. Indeed, the closer she got to her husband the hungrier she got. It is part of her curse. "Come, let us go," she whispers as she calms down. "Before the shinigami catches us again."
"Mew." Belle hops down from her seat and rubs against her mistresses ankle, weaving in between them as she leads the way to the door. It's dark outside with a full moon and millions of little stars shining down on the two. It could be considered beautiful...under any other circumstances. Elena jumps up onto the roof tops and runs and leaps back to her contract holder. He is a tall man with dark hair and blue eyes, just like all her other prey. Handsome and young and full of emotions. When she lands behind him, he whips around with a frightened yelp.
"It is finished," she informs him, wetting her lips with her salivating tongue. His fear ripens the air as he stumbles and steps away from her.
"I..I changed my mind! I didn't mean what I said!"
"Oh, you didn't?" Elena chuckles and turns to her kitty companion. "Did you hear that, Belle? He didn't mean it."
"Th-that's right! S-s-so take this damned mark off me and be gone, demon!"
Chuckling, she approaches him faster than his human eyes can comprehend and grabs him by the collar. "What's said is said. I'm afraid what's been done can never be undone, and now you will pay your price." The man shakes in fear as Elena draws her lips closer to his and opens her mouth wide, breathing in as the light of his soul begins to lift out of him and flow into her.
"STOP," A boys voice demands not far away.
"Master, no! It is too late. We must not interfere as his contract has already been fulfilled. There is nothing either of us can do."
That voice...Elena knew it too well. It made her heart speed up to a painful degree, and she accidently swallows too thickly, nearly choking on the fear sweetened soul she was consuming. She lets the body drop with a thud, and slowly turns around to face the two people who had interrupted her. Her stomach was already feeling empty again and if she had not have just fed, she knew her insides would feel like they were shredding apart from starvation. Not twenty feet from her stood a tall teenaged boy, wearing shorts, and an expensive shirt and over coat. An eye patch covers one of his eyes, the other being a dark blue.
His butler holds him back with one arm out stretched. He wears a perfectly tailored suit, white gloves, and a perplexed frown. His eyes are a scarlet that took her a moment to look away from to assess his neatly cut raven hair. His own eyes looked her up and down, disbelief and a forlorn expression blooming across his face. Elena slowly reaches up and removes her hood.
"Zacerie?"
"Elena...how? This is...unexpected." His face still hasn't recovered as a million things passed through him. He faintly registers Ciel yammering on about something to him, none to happy with how his butler is reacting. The last he had seen her she had been dying on their bed, nearly 500 years ago. A sad smile twitches his wife's lips upward.
"You didn't think you'd get rid of me that easily, did you?" Elena asks cockily.
"Sebastian! Snap out of it this instant and tell me what's going on!" Ciel shouts while waving his arm in front of the mans face. Sebastian shakes himself from his daze and gently lowers his masters arm.
"Young master, I don't know how it is possible...but this is my wife...from another life."
"You're what? I didn't know you were married," the boy looks between the two of them before snapping back into business mode. "In any case, I ordered you to take care of the problem, so do it!"
"Problem? Oh, you mean me?" Elena finally interrupts. "I've found what I was looking for. I think now I can stop. Might I come along with you? I think we have some catching up to do."
Ciel groans and rubs his eyes, nodding. "We will figure out what this is all about in the morning. I'd like to go home now, Sebastian."
The butler nods and picks the boy up in his arms, looking over his shoulder to Elena. "Can you keep up?"
"I was always faster than you, Zac, of course I can."
"Why does he call you 'Sebastian'?"
The two demons now sit in the library by the fire. Despite being married when they were human, they sit apart like strangers. Belle is curled up in Elena's lap, purring as she is stroked. Sebastians eyes flicker to the cats every now and again, dying to play with it. It hadn't been easy to convince Ciel to let them bring her, but he hadn't ordered him not to allow the cat in. As long as they kept Belle out of sight, everything would be alright.
"Ciel Phantomhive summoned me to avenge his dead parents. He named me that when I made the contract."
"Summoned you? Does that mean you went to Hell? Zac, I need to know what happened."
Sebastian sighs and looks into her almost familiar eyes. "Yes...I made a deal with a she-demon that night you were giving birth. She saved both your lives, in return for my soul."
"But you're a demon...you're the reason I am a demon. If she took your soul you should be dead."
Sebastian shakes his head. "She didn't consume it. She used me for...other amusements."
A foul taste invaded her mouth as he spoke those words and she found herself filling with anger and jealousy. "How did you become this? And what happened to our child?" He continues.
"We had a daughter. I named her Aylee."
"After your mother."
"Yes," Elena nods sadly. "After you disappeared I fell into post partum depression and my sister Lorrine had to come help me with Aylee. She was a year old when the demon Lilianna appeared to me. Said she knew where you were and could give me the ability to get you back. I didn't hesitate. She turned me into this thing that I am now, but what she didn't tell me was that I would have to look for you for hundreds of years before I'd find you. All I had to do was follow the hunger.
"The closer I got to you the more ravenous I became. I stayed in France for about twelve years pretending to be Aylee's aunt. We thought it was best that she though Lorrine was her mother...especially when I started to lose my mind. Another fine print Lilianna left out...if I didn't search for you, I would go mad and turn into something not even a God could tame. So I faked my death in a fire and started searching. I went back every once in a while to watch her grow into a beautiful young lady.
"I stopped going when she had her own kids. It was...too painful. Even for a demon."
Sebastian leans forward, absorbing all of that information, and pushes Elena's hair from her face. "Was it worth it?"
Elena sucks in a breath and looks up at him sharply, answering just as sharp, as if she had been insulted. "Yes."
Sebastian smirks and lets his lips fall onto hers. Some part of him expected to feel like he had when he was human, but the demon side of him knows everything is different. Her lips are familiar in the way they are soft, but still strange to them in their taste and smoothness. She'd never had smooth lips because she had a terrible habit of biting them. They pull apart at the same time and sit quietly for just a moment.
"So what now?" She asks. She hadn't actually thought of what they'd do if he was under a long term contract. Which, apparently, he is.
"Now we wait for my obligations to come to an end and we can go home."
"That sounds lovely," she smiles at him satisfyingly.
