A/N - I felt bad because the first chapter was short, so here's the second one.

"Friendship isn't about who you've known the longest,
it's about who walked into your life,
said «I'm here for you» and proved it."
[Unknown]

Supervisory Special Agent Jennifer Jereau was not one to show her emotions in public; first, as communication liaison was trained to be strong and support victims' families, later as a profiler was instructed to be objective and to not be influenced by situations.
And she wasn't about to change that, especially not in that white and - too much - bright hospital lobby where all of her team was standing, listening to an unusual gloomy Garcia "As you all know, she coded once in the ambulance and then twice while in surgery and she lost a lot of blood, and when I say a lot I mean A LOT. But her vitals improved during the night."
"Thank God" Simmons and Lewis whispered at once.
"Doctors said they are gradually reducing her sedatives and see how her body reacts, hoping she wakes up soon," the tech analyst continued while massaging her temples.
"Hey, Garcia, why don't I give you a ride home, you should rest," Alvez offered with a soft smile.
"I could use a shower but promise me you call me if anything happens. Promise!" she said looking into her teammates' eyes one by one.
"I promise we will call you, Garcia," Rossi assured, one hand on her shoulder.
Garcia's glance hesitated on Reid, who was sitting by himself a few feet away from the group, and on JJ, who was lost somewhere in her thoughts and avoiding eye contact with everyone, but eventually she dragged herself out of that place followed by Luke.
"I'm gonna go in her room for a while if it's okay for you all," JJ talked softly as if she was afraid to burst into tears if she'd spoken louder.
Reid raised his head towards his friend, already knowing that she was blaming herself for everything; no one said anything, and JJ turned her back to the others heading inside of Emily's room.

She was living that day all over again, the day she had seen her husband's body on the floor of that tunnel; she had applied pressure on his wound, she had told him to wake up, she had screamed at him to wake up but there was no response. Emily had gently lifted her up from her husband's lifeless body and took her in a much-needed hug. JJ had let herself be held by her colleague and friend until there were no more tears to cry and no more scream to let out. She had had no time to say Will goodbye, no time to tell him how much she loved him, and no time to hear his voice again.
It was happening all over again, Jennifer was losing someone important for her without having a chance to say one last word, "Emily, please, stay with me. Please, I love you!"
JJ was taken back from her own words; she had never said that to Emily out loud, she had never even admitted to herself that she loved Emily, yet it was the only thing she wanted to say to her at that moment.
"M'am, please, step back," one paramedic said firmly.
How dare he - Jennifer thought - telling me to step away from her? I must apply pressure on the wound, I must hold her hand and make sure she doesn't lose consciousness. I must talk to her, I must tell her I'm sorry, I must - "Jennifer! C'mon, hop in the car, we'll follow the ambulance," Simmons abruptly interrupted JJ's mental protests, guiding her to the car.
She didn't cry in the car and she didn't cry in the waiting room of the hospital and she didn't cry in the hospital restroom while changing her dirty shirt that was soaked in Emily's blood. She didn't even cry when Garcia had thrown her arms around her, crying herself. Too many things were happening around her - and inside her - and she simply pointed out to herself that having a meltdown wasn't going to do any good to anyone.

When JJ had seen Emily for the last time the night before, the brunette was surely paler than now and that's good - the blonde reflected; on the other hand, she was surrounded by wires and tubes and a big bandage was wrapped around her leg. Jennifer slowly moved closer to her motionless boss - and friend - while her sight was becoming blurred because of the tears forming in her eyes. The blonde placed a soft kiss on Emily's forehead before sitting on the chair next to her bed.
"I'm sorry," her voice cracked the moment she opened her mouth, "I'm sorry I didn't see that coming and I'm sorry I wasn't faster than him, I should have been faster than him," JJ took Emily's hand into her own and let her head drop on the mattress, "Please be good, wake up, please, we need you, your team needs you. I need you. I really need you, please, be okay" her words sounded more like a mantra to herself than a prayer to the Lord.
JJ needed Emily to be okay. JJ needed Emily when her husband Will was shot dead that day in that bank and Emily was indeed there to help her mourn; JJ needed Emily when she was held captive and tortured and Emily found her, Emily saved her; JJ needed Emily when she had to come to terms with what happened to her sister Roslyn and Emily offered her a shoulder to cry on. Emily's presence in JJ's life was essential, it was one of the few good things of the blonde's life - that was loaded with awful stuff - and she wasn't willing to lose that.
"Please, Em," once again her voice was merely a whisper, "I can't live without you. You're my boss, you're my go-to person, my friend…" and maybe even something more than a friend, she thought.
Having that kind of thought was no surprise to JJ, Emily had always been someone more than a friend - and she never lied to herself saying otherwise - she simply never said that out loud. To be fair, the timing had never been merciful for the two women; JJ's true and strong love for Will, the joy of becoming a mom, the unspeakable pain of losing Will, then Doyle and Emily's job at Interpol, it all got in the way.
But the way JJ felt when the two of them looked at each other - or touched each other to offer comfort in tough times or smiled at each other - was something she could not explain if not with the word love. Emily's eyes were the first thing JJ had always wanted to meet when a case was that bad, Emily's touch was the only thing JJ had always wanted to feel on her skin when things were getting overwhelming and Emily's smile was the only thing that helped JJ calm down when overthinking was taking over her head. She never said those things to anyone, she never said those things to Emily. She had been meaning to tell Emily how she felt when they were together, but the fear of her love not being corresponded and the fear of losing Emily as a friend made JJ postpone that talk.
What if now was too late? What if now JJ had lost her chance?
"I love you, Emily, and you have to be okay."
