Coffee Shop
Fumikage slowly blinked his eyes open and stared at the mound of homework that sat next to him. He had fallen asleep at his desk. Again. He looked over at the clock.
6:00 AM
I've got class in an hour and a half ... and all I got was three hours of sleep. Oh, well. That's better than the usual one hour. Still, I'm so exhausted. I'm gonna need to get something to help me get through the day. Fumikage monologued in his head.
Groggily, he got up and pulled a hoodie on. He went to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror. He looked like a mess. He grabbed a comb and combed his jet-black hair back in a way that it spiked. His red choker was a little twisted, so he straightened it. Fumikage stared at the dark circles under his vibrant red eyes that contrasted his pale skin. He grabbed his eyeliner and applied a little, hoping it would distract from the circles.
Once satisfied with his appearance, he packed his bag and headed out of his dorm toward class. But first, he had to make a quick stop.
He wandered the campus, looking for a good place for coffee. He knew he was going to need the caffeine. Eventually, his eyes landed on a new coffee shop that had just opened up last week.
Hm. I'll see if that place is any good. Fumikage thought and he started walking in that direction.
He pushed the door open and sat down in a booth by a window. He stared out said window at a pair of crows flying around the sky in circles. Fumikage smiled a little at the sight. He'd always had a fascination for crows.
"Welcome to Sunny Cafe. May I take your order?" a voice cut in.
Fumikage immediately snapped his head towards the source of the voice.
Standing at his table was a young man his age with brown skin. He stood at a solid five foot nine and his eyes were a dark-ish silver color. A bit of gray eyeliner was applied to his upper eyelids. His facial expression looked bored, as though he'd rather be doing anything else. His hair was stark white and incredibly fluffy. And incredibly messy. Fumikage looked at the name tag he was wearing. "Kuroiro Shihai".
Huh. He's not bad looking. Agh! Focus! Fumikage thought as a light blush rose to his cheeks. "Yes, please. I'll just have a black coffee, thank you."
Shihai lazily wrote it down on a note pad. "Coming right up," he said and gave Fumikage a small smile that made the black-haired boy's heart skip a beat.
In the kitchen, Shihai got to work on prepping the black coffee, the small smile still lingering on his lips.
It didn't take long for one of his co-workers to notice.
"Woah! Is that a smile?!" Juzo asked, teasingly.
Shihai's smile instantly disappeared. "N-No," he said gruffly.
"That's a lie! What's got you smiling like that?" Juzo asked, excitedly.
Shihai rolled his eyes as his cheeks started to turn pink. "Nothing."
Juzo's eyes widened when he saw the blush. "So it's not something, isn't it? It's someone!"
Shihai's blush deepened and mumbled "I don't know what you're talking about."
Juzo took a quick glance around the cafe. Then his eyes widened with realization. "It's the guy with the black hair and the red choker, isn't it?!"
Shihai's blush deepened even more. "N-No! Shut up before someone hears!"
"Did you formally introduce yourself?" Juzo asked, completely ignoring the flustered waiter.
"No," Shihai growled.
"You should! You're obviously attracted to him!"
"Shut up!"
"Come onnnn you know I'm right!" Juzo encouraged.
Shihai let out an irritated sigh. "Fine! I'll introduce myself..."
"Go get 'em, tiger!" Juzo said, lightly punching his shoulder.
Shihai sighed again and finished preparing the coffee. He brought it over to the table where ravenette sat.
Fumikage smiled a little at the sight of the boy approaching him with the coffee. "Thank you," he said, taking the cup.
"You're most welcome," Shihai replied. "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kuroiro Shihai."
"Tokoyami Fumikage," Fumikage replied.
"Hm," Shihai lightly hummed, smiling. "That's a nice name."
Fumikage blushed at the compliment and shyly averted his eyes. "T-Thank you..."
Shihai felt himself blush at his own compliment. "Y-You're welcome... um ... I-I'll let you enjoy your coffee ... and, um, if you need anything else ... let me know."
"Will do," Fumikage said. Damn. That stutter of his is pretty cute. Agh, what am I thinking? This isn't like you, Fumikage. You're here for a good education, not to find a partner!
Meanwhile, Shihai retreated back to the kitchen, his face was beat red. Damn it! Why'd I have to stutter like that? He probably thinks I'm an awkward weirdo or something! Shihai, you idiot!
"Hey! How'd it go?" Juzo asked.
"I stuttered and blushed like a fool! I blew it!" Shihai spat.
Juzo chuckled a little. "I don't think you blew it, man. You just got a little awkward! Some people find that cute!"
"I-I don't see what's so cute about embarrassing yourself," Shihai grumbled.
"Oh, don't be like that. Try giving him your number!"
"W-WHAT?!" Shihai asked, completely flustered.
"You never know! It could be an opportunity to get to know him better!" Juzo explained.
"Maybe..." Shihai admitted.
He carefully kept an eye on the ravenette as he sipped his coffee. Fumikage seemed lost in thought as he took sip after sip. When he finished, he signaled for the check.
Shihai gulped and approached him with the check book.
Fumikage took the check book from Shihai and started filling it out. After he finished, he handed it back.
Shihai's face grew hot as he smiled slightly. "Thank you," he said as he took the check book. Then he offered Fumikage a hand. "It was nice to meet you, Tokoyami."
Fumikage took Shihai's hand and shook it. "Pleasure's all mine."
They let go and Shihai went back to the kitchen. But as he let go, Fumikage felt something crinkle in his hand. He looked down at his palm and saw a small piece of paper ripped from Shihai's notebook.
"Call or text me - (XXX) XXX-XXXX"
He ... gave me his number? Fumikage asked himself, his face growing hot. Maybe I should give him a chance. What's the worse that could happen?
He looked up and saw Shihai glancing at him.
Fumikage smiled at his waiter and nodded.
Shihai smiled back and nodded in return.
"He just agreed to contact you?!" Juzo asked, excitedly.
Shihai's smile disappeared as he turned bright red. "S-Shut up! He could hear you!" he hissed.
Fumikage chuckled to himself when he saw the two bickering. Shihai Kuroiro ... until we meet again. he thought as he left the cafe and towards class.
Again, unsure of how to end this, but I hope you liked it!
