Chapter 1
A young boy sat in the back of the class, watching his older brother entertain the rest of the students as usual. He didn't pay much attention to his antics, as he was used to them by now.
After a long 45 minutes of twiddling his thumbs and paying no attention to the teacher (it was hard to, in a class with his brother), the bell rang, signifying the end of the class.
The boy immediately got up from his seat, slinging his bag over his shoulder in the process. He quickly exited the classroom, ignoring the rest of the students who stayed for a couple seconds to talk.
He didn't much like the other students at Yancy Academy, and avoided conversations with them. It wasn't because he was necessarily bad at talking, but more so that he just didn't like it.
He was stopped in his tracks, however, by a strong hand gripping his shoulder. The boy was turned around and met eyes with another boy a whole 3 inches taller then him.
"Still trying to be anti social, huh?" Asked the bigger boy. He wore a smile that lit up the room. Two guys and a girl behind him looked on, confused as to why he had turned away from them.
The younger boy gave him a look. "Antisocial?" He questioned.
The other boy snickered. "Of course." He said, before turning to his group. "I'll catch y'all guys later!"
He didn't wait for them to respond as he slung his arm around his brothers neck, dragging him outside the class room.
The group watched the two, confused on to why their friend had left them for...wait, who was that?
"Your always trying to leave class so soon. Almost like you hate your big bro." He said dramatically as he nearly choked his brother.
"It's not like that." Replied the younger boy, prying himself free. "It's just that I have class to go to." He said with a slight smile.
"Yeah yeah, your always worried about school stuff, but it doesn't matter if Mrs. Dodds is just gonna fail you anyways."
His brother chuckled. He found himself bored most of the time at school, but his brother was the one thing he could rely on to lighten up his day.
"You know, I think if you actually tried, you could be smart." He said. "Really Theseus, at this rate, you may not pass this year." He said, though he knew his brother wasn't really paying attention.
After all, he was Theseus Jackson, the schools golden boy. Through his persona alone, Theseus had reached the top of the schools totem pole, and rightfully so.
Theseus wasn't just some goofy jock, but instead he was someone who somehow managed to please everyone. No matter who you were or what you liked, you would always end up liking Theseus, something his brother had admired growing up.
"Y'know Percy, sometimes I wonder if you mean what you say about this school stuff. Your always worried about class and all, yet you don't even seem to care." He said with a questioning glance.
His brother thought for a moment before answering (something his brother didn't tend to do). After all, even he didn't know if he knew the answer.
You see, Perseus Jackson really could be considered the exact opposite of his older brother. Unlike Theseus, he didn't really worry himself with talking to others, instead mainly staying to himself.
Though, because he was quiet did not mean he was into things like school. To be honest, the only thing he really focused on was himself.
It was crazy to think that these two polar opposites were related, but that was the case.
"It doesn't matter wether or not I like school, because either way I have to do my work." He finally said. Theo almost pouted. "Your so lame."
"Well, if you'd-...Theseus?" Percy stopped mid sentence as he realized that he was the only one walking still.
He turned around to see Theseus had stopped and was staring dead ahead, completely ignoring his brother. "Theo?"
His brother didn't respond as he started to walked forward, past Percy and towards whatever had his attention.
Percy's eyes shifted in front of him to see what had his brother so entrance. Near the end of the hallway were two boys in a scuffle.
It was clear to Percy what was happening as he saw the bigger of the two boys pin the other on the lockers, giving him no way out.
Percy hesitated for only a second. He did feel bad for the smaller boy, but he also knew it wasn't uncommon for bullying to take place at Yancy. It wouldn't be worth it to care every time something happened.
However, his brother obviously thought differently.
Theseus strode threw the hall with an indifferent look on his face. He showed no emotion as he walked, giving away nothing.
Different students throughout the area all turned to see what had Theseus so serious, whispering among themselves, wondering what was about to go down.
Eventually, he reached the two boys, and the bigger one stopped halfway through his punch that was aimed for the kids head.
Theseus placed a hand on the boys shoulder.
The bully stopped his attack to see who had interrupted him. "Who the hell-!" He immediately recognized Theo and hesitated.
"Theseus?!" He asked. He was bigger then Theseus by a decent amount, but no one had ever even thought of messing with Theo, and he didn't want to change that.
Percy watched his brother pause for a second before taking in a small breath. After he did so, he let out a big smile that reached ear to ear.
"Hey buds! Y'all having fun without me!" He said with a jolly tune.
"Eh"
"What?"
the two other boys said at the same time.
Before they could react, Theo grabbed the two and wrapped his arm around each of them, bringing them in.
"Cmon guys, I think there serving double fudge brownies in the cafe, and I'm no trynna miss it!"
The two boys, completely confused, were dragged away by Theo without any objection.
Percy mentally sighed. Just like that, his brother had made two polar opposites get along in seconds. It didn't matter who it was, he could befriend anyone.
It was his super power.
Something he would never have.
Percy huffed and gathered himself. Adjusting his bag, he strode forward, past the corner and towards the room her shared with his brother. He decided to take this time to wind down as Theseus probably wouldn't be back for at least an hour.
~Some Time Later~
Percy laid back in his bed, bored as he lazily studied some random Latin book. Usually he would never dare to study in his free time, but Mr. Brunner's class was different.
You see, Percy never really struggled with school in general, but Mr. Brunner, his Latin teacher, pushed him to his limits. Despite the fact he was a good student overall, apparently it wasn't enough for the teacher as he always expected more from Percy.
What was even more strange was that Mr. Brunner had the same expectations for his brother as well. Theo was by no means stupid, yet most teachers didn't expect his to be a A honor roll student, per say.
Yet that didn't stop Brunner from demanding the boys best, and only that.
Perseus was busy thinking as the door to his shared dorm burst open, a dark haired boy tumbling through.
"Whew!" Theseus said as he plopped down on his bed across from Percy. He seemed tired.
"I did not expect the lunch lady to work me for that long. Like, how was I supposed to know the brownies weren't free? And then making me clean to make up for it?!"
Percy let out a "hmph". Without a word he threw over a book onto his brothers lap.
"What's this?" He asked, picking it up and going to a random page.
"Your homework. I tried to do some, but you need to do the rest. That is if you don't want to fail, of course."
Theseus groaned. "Cmonnn Percy. Is this all really needed. I'm sure if I ask hard enough, Mr. Brunner will be nice enough to help me pass."
Percy smiled slightly. "You can try, but I wouldn't test your luck." He said, knowing how his Latin teacher was.
Theo sighed. "I guess." He said, before giving up. The boy changed into more comfortable clothes before laying back in his bed.
The room was lit up only by the lamp in between the two boys bed, giving off just enough light to allow them to read.
No words were said as the two studied intently, the only noise being the winds caused by the storm brewing outside.
Percy frowned at the scenes outside of his window. The sky was dark and the trees were whipping around wildly. Recently, the weather in New York had been more extreme then usual, and the storm was just another example of that.
Percy decided that the rain was the perfect thing to fall asleep to as he closed his book and laid it down. He turned and faced his wall, closing his eyes in the process.
"Goodnight Percy." Said he brother when he noticed him getting ready to sleep.
"Goodnight, Theseus." He replied, easily falling asleep.
Unlike his usually dreamless nights, Percy found himself experiencing something completely different from anything he had seen before.
His eyes snapped open, and he immediately knew he was in a dream.
The boy looked down, and then around. He recognized that he was in what seemed like a wheat field on some sort of farm, confirming this wasn't real life.
Farms in Manhattan? Unheard of.
Just as Percy was starting to get confused, he heard someone shuffle to his side.
He immediately whipped his head around to see a farmer, casually going through the wheat stalks and harvesting with a long scythe.
"Who are you?" Asked the boy, skeptically with obvious hostility. Percy wasn't great at hiding his intentions.
The man smiled slightly, just now acknowledging the boy. He turned to Percy, and he noticed a long, thick, and pointy beard that reached below the mans neck, the same color as the black curly hair on his head.
He wore basic robes that somehow seemed fancy despite the bland coloring. He held his head up high as he continued to swing his scythe, decimating the wheat.
"You will soon join me, boy. Together, me and you will harvest this all, and nothing will stand in our way."
He spoke in a tone unspeakably cold, a tone that seemed older then the earth itself. It was powerful enough to make even the toughest people flinch, but Percy only looked on, confused.
"What do you want from me?" He asked, unfazed.
The man looked on, confused. "You show no fear. That will be useful in times to come. I have many things planned for you, demigod, I just hope you survive long enough to reach me!" He said with a dark laugh.
What did he call me? Wondered the boy. He didn't think much of it as he stared on at the god, ready to ask another question, but he couldn't as his vision started the swirl. Before he could speak, his sight went black, leaving him staring into a black darkness.
Percy woke with a start, a single drop of sweat rolling down his face, one that went unnoticed. He immediately noticed that the storm had subsided a bit, and he assumed that it would comeback tomorrow night.
Thankfully, it was still night so Percy would still be able to get some sleep.
After thinking, he sighed and laid back down. He turned to his side and noticed that Theseus had turned of the lamp off, yet he had his book opened up and across his face.
How he had managed to do so was beyond Percy, though he felt that he should have appreciated it.
Percy shuffled a bit in his bed as his mind started to wonder, unlike himself. It took a moment for him to realize something truly strange.
Somehow, Percy had forgotten the dream he had been in not even a minute before.
It was complete out of character for the boy to forget something this soon, especially something so important.
He only scowled, but he decided not to let it get to him as he relaxed once more. The boy closed his eyes, and let himself fall asleep yet again, this time without dreams.
~The Next Morning~
Percy's eyes fluttered open as light peeked through his blinds, shining in his eyes. He stayed still for a moment before he groaned and stretched out.
The boy sat up, and glanced to his side to see that Theseus was nowhere to be seen. He deducted that it was probably breakfast, and his brother had left him to get some extra sleep.
His thoughts were confirmed as he noticed a note on his bedside.
"Wanted to let you get some extra rest. Went out to breakfast :)"
Percy read the note before rolling himself out of bed.
He slowly got his school clothing on before striding through the door. He was immediately confronted by a scrawny boy at his door who stood a good inch taller than him.
"Grover?" He asked with a little distaste though he remained indifferent.
The boy hesitated a bit before speaking.
"P-Percy!" He stuttered out. "I didn't expect you to already be awake."
The boy raised a brow. "What are you doing in front of my room?" The tone he used wasn't hostile, but it also was far from friendly. It left his thoughts up to Grover's imagination, and he didn't think Percy was too happy right now.
"W-well I noticed that Theo was alone this morning, so I asked him where you were. He said you were still asleep, so I came by to make sure you were ok."
"Why wouldn't I be ok?" Percy asked. He was getting a little tired of the conversation, but he couldn't just walk away. Well, he could but he was a little confused.
"No reason!" Grover said, panicked. "But I just wanted to make sure you woke up in time for class. That's it!" He said with a nervous laugh.
Percy scanned the boy for at least a minute. After Grover was getting ready to die due to the suspense, Percy spoke.
"Ok." Was all he said before walking off, leaving Grover in front of his door.
Percy was halfway down the dorm hallway when he felt Grover run to catch up with him on his side.
"Soo Percy, how has your week been? You ready for the Latin test today? Or maybe your excited for the field trip on Friday?"
Percy said nothing as he gave Grover a complete once over. It wasn't uncommon for the boy to talk to him, he was one of Theo's closer friends after all. Well he though so at least, but it could've just been that Grover always found his way to Theo.
But anyways, he always found the interest the boy took in the two brothers weird, and thought about his real intentions.
Percy said nothing, remaining quiet as he trudged forward. The silence was enough to make Grover want to explode, and he eventually couldn't take it anymore.
"Well, I get if you don't really want to go to the museum, but at least it beats being stuck in Mrs. Dodds's class!" He said, frantically trying to get a response.
Percy almost said something, because even he knew how evil Mrs. Dodds was, but he kept his quiet act up. Eventually though, he found something to say.
"Why are you following me?" He asked bluntly.
"Eh, what? Oh, you mean this?! I just wanted to make sure you had company on the way to the cafe, that's it!"
After a moment, Percy nodded. "I'm going to class, there's no point in following me."
"Well, we do have the same first period, so we might as well go together." He said, really pushing it.
Percy looked confused for a second but decided it was whatever as he walked off towards his class, Grover trailing behind and chatting it up.
Grovers clinginess along with Theseus's bubbly attitude really was more then enough for his uneventful day to day, but he had learned to deal with it, sadly.
Eventually, the two reached their class, finding their seats with plenty of time left before class started.
The two went through the same routine of Grover talking and Percy replying blandly all the way throughout the class and into the next one.
~With Theseus~
Theseus stared deeply at the girl in front of him, thoroughly confused. "You want to do my homework for what reason, exactly?"
The girl giggled. "Well I just want to make sure you do well on its, of course. Also, it would be nice to spend some time together, don't you think. After all, this is my last year at Yancy before I move to Brooklyn." She said with fluttering eyes.
Theseus paused before speaking. "Oh well, thanks for the offer then, Drew, I guess?" He said, still a little oblivious.
"But sadly, I don't think I'll make it. My Latin class is going on a field trip, and my brothers is my partner, so I can't really leave him." He replied.
Everyone at the breakfast table (which was mostly filled with Drew's female friends as well as one or two of Theseus's) turned their head towards the boy.
"Your what?" Asked Drew.
Theseus didn't see what was so shocking. "Yeah my little brother, Percy. You know, this tall (he put his had a little below his shoulder, a pretty big exaggeration), dark hair like mine, brown eyes, and stays to himself? He's in a couple of my classes, and he usually stays in the back."
Despite his detailed description, it appeared as though no one at the table, or even at Yancy knew of Perseus, even if he was the brother of "The Great Theo".
"This brother of yours, he wouldn't happen to be as cute as you, would he?" Drew asked with another giggle. Only a second had passed and Drew was already interested.
Theo frowned. "I don't know if I'd call him that, but he is a pretty good guy. A little rough round the edges, but great once you get to no him. Err- if you get to know him." He corrected.
Half the people at the table were still baffled, and the other half were already in love with even the thought of another Jackson, yet they failed to realize that said Jackson was completely uninterested in any of them.
With a sigh, Theo pushed off the table and got up. "Well, I should be getting to class." He said. "Percy told me if I didn't start being early, I'd fail." He said as he started to walk off.
Drew smirked as she watched the schools star walk off. Though, at the moment she wasn't really thinking about him. Whoever could make Theseus think so highly of them must've been great, and Drew was determined to find them.
"Bye Theo!" She said with a cheery tone, one that Theo responded only with a wave to.
Theseus strode through the hallway with only half of him paying attention where he was actually going. The other half was thinking about Percy.
Where would he be at this time? Usually, he would be the first one awake and busy with his own life, but for some reason he had slept in today, very unusual for him.
"Maybe he's tired of me?" Thought Theo, and immediately he grew worried. He shook his head. "Cmon Theseus, Percy would never abandon you. Maybe he's just studying or something, or maybe he found a friend to hang with." He thought to himself.
He decided to let it go as he finally made it into Mr. Brunner's classroom,
The crippled teacher looked up from his seat, and his eyes lit up once he saw who had just entered his room.
"Ahh, Theseus, how unusual it is to see you this early." He said with a kind tone.
Theo threw his hands up before plopping down in a seat. There were a couple other nerdy students there before him, but they were all too busy studying to notice him.
Unlike them, however, he had no real intention of learning with this extra time.
"Cmon Mr. Brunner, is this all really necessary? I know you say this class is important and all, but studying before school even starts?!" He asked, laid back.
His teacher wheeled back in his wheelchair and rolled to the front of his desk so he could have a clear view of his student.
"The fact that you bothered to come here in the first place is already a good step. I'm assuming your brother suggested this move?" He asked.
"Mhmm." Theo confirmed.
Me. Brunner nodded. "A good head on his shoulder, young Perseus has. I only hope that he doesn't let that attitude of his get in the way. You may not notice, but his presence is just as potent as your own, if used correctly."
Theo raised a brow. "Of course i know what he'd be capable of. He is my brother, after all." He said.
"Of course, Theseus, and that is why I ask that you take care of him, keep him on the right track."
Now the boy was really confused. "Are you sure your talking to the right brother?" He asked.
Mr. Brunner laughed. "I think we should worry about this all on another day, for now, let us get you caught up on the latest Roman emperors." He said and Theseus sighed.
"I guess." He replied, defeated, and the two got into studying, preparing the boy for much more then just Latin class.
Me posting this may be a bit of a surprise, but please know that the sin of Thanatos will be updated regularly as well, I just really have limited time to work.
The council of Zeus, however is a different story lol. (I actually have like 10k words written for that story, but I plan on making the first three chapters of it extremely long, so yeh).
But as a first chapter this is a bit meh, but the plot of this story could go crazy. I have high hopes, even though it's kinda a side project right now.
