A/N: I would like to mention for the people that are concerned, that there is most definitely NO romance between Hiccup and my OC. You'll see why too in a few chapters, so please don't start shipping them, you'll regret it later.
Hiccup laid the strange girl on Gothie's mat. Toothless hovered almost on top of them with a worried expression. Gothie checked her eyes and breathing then set to work on the wound on her head. It was a deep gash on the base of her skull. It wasn't bleeding anymore by what Hiccup could see but her hair was matted and tangled with her own blood. It definitely wasn't just a scrape. A roar came from outside and Gobber's yelling followed it. Hiccup threw a look back at the injured girl then rushed outside. He hurried down Gothie's ladder and ran to where Gobber was attempting to tend to the now conscience and very irritable Monstrous Nightmare.
"Ah awreddy lost 2 limbs ye overgroon lizard an' I'm not about ta lit ye feast oan anither!" Fishlegs cornered Hiccup on approach.
"The Nightmare is too agitated Hiccup, Gobber can't go near him until he's calmer."
"As soon As Gothie finishes with the girl I'm sure she can give him something to calm him down." Fishlegs's eyes lit up.
"Maybe she won't have to! The Nightmare was awfully protective of her, maybe just seeing her would calm him."
"It would certainly be worth a try." Astrid agreed. Gobber limped over to them, keeping a wide berth between him and the dragon.
"Who's thes lass Ah keep hearin' stuff aboot?"
"She was unconscious with the Nightmare when we found them. I'm not sure-," A roar interrupted Hiccup. Everyone looked up to see Toothless bounding all over Gothie's loft porch and roaring down at them. "What the-," Hiccup raced over to the ladder and climbed up while the others went up on their dragons, leaving Gobber alone with the Nightmare. He locked eyes with the beast.
"Alrecht now, they've gone tae check oan yer mistress. Are ye gonna lit me help ya dragon?" When Hiccup reached the top of the ladder he found himself face to face with his very anxious Night Fury. Toothless roared again and bounded towards the door, gesturing with his head.
"Hiccup, I think your dragon has gone crazy." Snotlout said, the riders hanging back away from the wild eyed Night Fury. Hiccup held out his hands and Toothless nuzzled into him.
"I've never seen him act like this." Hiccup mumbled, more to himself than to the others. Then Toothless broke out of his embrace and went towards the door again. Just the Gothie emerged, glaring up at the dragon as her whole house shook. "Gothie, how is she?" Hiccup asked. Gothie looked at the boy, her expression unreadable. She gestured with her staff to the door and stepped back. Hiccup took that as an invitation to come inside. Toothless was unable to fit through the door though that didn't stop him from trying. "Whoa bud!" Hiccup held Toothless's head in his hands and petted his nose gently. "Look I promise I'll see what's going on with her ok? But you have to wait out there." Toothless moaned sadly but nevertheless, unwedged his large head from the door frame and went back to pacing the porch.
Hiccup moved into the house and then approached the girl on the mat. There were candles lit all around her since the house was dark and a blanket drawn up around her slender form. Hiccup sat down next to the mat and studied her for a moment. Her hair was gathered up on top of her head to make room for a bandage on the base of her skull. Gothie had taken off her shirt and bound her torso from her chest down until it disappeared beneath the folds of the blanket, leaving her shoulders bare. The candlelight illuminated her skin, highlighting the scars and bruises dotting her pale flesh. She looked to be about his age, though it was hard to tell. He looked away, gazing at his surroundings, completely befuddled as to why Toothless was acting so strangely because of this girl. He looked back at her and inhaled sharply. A pair of emerald green eyes were staring right back at him. Hiccup was completely taken aback. Neither said anything, just watched each other cautiously. She blinked a few times then looked around, wincing slightly as she moved her head. Hiccup made a motion to help her and her gaze snapped back to him the moment he moved. He froze, seeing the hostility in her eyes.
"Where am I?" She asked, her voice raspy. Hiccup cautiously sat back down.
"You're on Berk. We found you in the woods with an injured Monstrous Nightmare. We brought you both here to be cared for." She sat up quickly.
"Cared for!? You mean slaughtered!" Before Hiccup could react she had vaulted up, the blanket falling from her form as she leapt to her feet and unsheathed a dagger from her belt. Obviously Gothie hadn't paid much attention to her weapons. Come to think of it, neither had he. Hiccup quickly stood, holding his hands out as a sign of surrender.
"No! We would never hurt you or the dragon! We made peace with the dragons over a year ago!" The girl froze, her knife still gripped tightly in her hand. Hiccup noticed that there was a fresh bloodstain on her bandaged waist that wasn't there a moment ago. "Please, you're injured, lay down and rest." She shook her head.
"Not until I see for myself that he is being taken care of." Hiccup nodded and slowly moved towards the door.
"He's right outside, you can see him for yourself. Our healer is trying to calm him down, he's very agitated."
"You would be too if you'd just been through what that dragon had." They stepped outside and the moment everyone saw her with a knife they went on defensive.
"Whoa, whoa everybody its ok! She's just a little, well, agitated. Like the dragon." The girl eyed everyone with a cold stare, not seeming the least bit intimidated. Just then, a very excited Night Fury forced his way through the riders, shoving them aside and coming to a stop in front of the girl. She gasped. Hiccup turned to look at her as the knife fell from her hand and landed with a thud on the floor. She was staring at Toothless in much the same way the dragon was looking at her. With complete shock and something akin to hope. She gingerly reached out her hand and Toothless brought his nose to her open palm, eyes closed as he purred. The girl let out a strangled cry and crumpled to her knees, bringing Toothless with her into an embrace as she wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his neck. Everyone just looked on in shock at the scene unfolding before them. After a few moments, the girl raised her head, eyes shining with tears and a huge smile on her face.
"You're alive." She whispered, touching her forehead to the Night Fury's. Toothless moaned contentedly. The girl finally looked up and straight to Hiccup. "How did you find him?" Hiccup rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Well...it's kind of a long story." Toothless growled and grunted for a moment and then held his tail in the air. The girl looked back at Hiccup.
"You shot him down then saved his life. Doesn't seem to be that long to me." Hiccup's jaw dropped open.
"How did-,"
"Eerikki told me." Hiccup cocked his head.
"You...you mean Toothless?" The girl looked back to the dragon as he purred and then she nodded.
"Yes. Toothless. I'm sorry, Eerikki is what I used to call him." She stood and then immediately crumpled. Toothless caught her on his head and Hiccup rushed forward, grabbing her arm to hold her up.
"Look you're really hurt. You need to rest. I promise, the Nightmare is being well taken care of." She looked up at him and Hiccup noted that now that they were outside, her eyes were more blue than green. They were like a swirling sea of the two colors, outlined by a dark ring of navy.
"I believe you." Hiccup helped her back into the hut, the others trailing in behind him. He laid her down gently and pulled the blanket over her form, which had broken out in goosebumps. "I apologize for my behavior earlier. I didn't know what kind of people you were, whether you were friend or foe to dragons." She said tiredly.
"We would never hurt any dragon! We've dedicated our time to learning all we can about them!" Fishlegs commented enthusiastically. The girl watched him for a moment before turning her now green eyes back to Hiccup.
"Who are all of you?"
"We're the dragon riders of Berk. I'm Hiccup. This is Fishlegs, Snotlout, the twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut, and Astrid." The girl grinned.
"Dragon riders you say? Now that will be interesting to observe." Hiccup looked down at her.
"Now it's your turn. Who are you?" She seemed to regard him pensively for a moment, then nodded.
"Sigrid. Its a pleasure to meet all of you." She leaned her head back against the wall. Hiccup knelt down next to her.
"Sigrid, I know you're tired, but I have to know this. How do you know Toothless?" She gazed up at him beneath heavy eyelids.
"He's...my brother." She mumbled. "We were raised together." She drifted off to sleep before anyone could say anything. Hiccup looked up at the others, who looked as baffled as he did.
"Raised together?" Astrid questioned. "Meaning, she was raised by Night Furies?"
