Mariko in Casper High
Everyone was in therir seats as Mr. Lancer entered the classroom which caused everyone to be silent.
"Now class." Mr. Lancer began, "As you all know, Principal Ishiyama recently announced that we have a new student joining us today."
The students were pondering who this new student could be when they heard the announcement, except for Danny since he knew who it was. Then, Mariko walked in as Mr. Lancer said,
"Everyone, this is our new student, Mariko Watanabe."
The majority of the students gasped. Soon, there were several comments going around, mainly from the jocks and the popular crowd
"Whoa! What a babe!"
"No way! That's Kenji Watanabe's daughter!"
"The Japanese tycoon's daughter is here!"
"Sweet! Another member to add to the cool kids!"
Mariko heard what was being said as she had an annoyed look that nobody noticed while she silently mumbled in Japanese with an annoyed tone
"Sore wa ī! Karojite 1-bu de, watashi wa sudeni suiage no nioi ga shimasu."
(Translation: Oh great! Barely one minute and I'm already smelling suck-ups)
"So Ms. Watanabe, why not introduce yourself?" Mr. Lancer suggested
"Honestly Lancer-sama, there's no need since practically everyone knows who I am." Mariko said in annoyance
The annoyed tone was only picked up by Danny, Tucker, and Sam while the others were oblivious. Sam rose an eyebrow as she thought
"She's the daughter of a wealthy tycoon, yet she's not sucking up to Mr. Lancer?"
"Oh don't be so modest." Mr. Lancer said dismissively
Mariko rolled her eyes in annoyance, seeing this vice principal and teacher sucking up to her in a way before she decided to just get it over with and said while facing the class
"Well, most of you are aware of my name and who my father is, so you saved me the trouble on that part. My family and I recently moved here when my father's company transferred here in Amity Park and my mother got promoted to Head of Department two weeks ago, and now works at Amity Park Hospital. That's how I ended up here."
Then, Mr. Lancer spoke up saying
"Now then, who would like to volunteer to show Ms. Watanabe around the school?"
In an instant, almost every boy in the classroom raised their hand. Even Tucker raised his hand as well. Mariko stepped back as she felt awkward that almost every guy, whom she wasn't familiar with, were volunteering to tour her. There were some girls in the classroom glaring at Mariko with annoyance and jealousy.
"Um...Lancer-sama, do you mind if I choose someone to guide me?" Mariko asked, feeling awkward and annoyed over the attention she was receiving
"Be my guest." Mr. Lancer replied
Mariko looked around. She sees that Danny was the only one who didn't volunteer like the other boys did. When her gaze landed upon him, the ghost boy simply and subtly smiled at her, causing her to smile back. Then, she turns to Mr. Lancer and said, while Danny was getting his homework out of his backpack
"I choose Danny Fenton."
Her decision shocked everyone in the classroom. There was a variety of reactions in the classroom.
"WHAT...?!" the boys shout in shock, outrage, and envy
"WHAT...?!" Sam shouts in shock and outrage
"Huh...?!" Danny exclaims in confusion since he didn't raise his hand.
"Oh come on! Danny didn't even volunteer...!" Tucker whined before crossed his arms with a pout.
Sam rolled her eyes in annoyance at Tucker's reaction. However, Mr. Lancer intervened and said
"Everyone! Calm down." he turns to Mariko and asks her in shock, "You really want Mr. Fenton to guide you?"
"Of course. Daniel-san is the first boy I've met and familiar with." Then Mariko puts her hands on her hips and glares at Mr. Lancer. "Is that a problem?"
Mr. Lancer was taken aback at this new student's glare and attitude
"No...not at all." he says
"Good." Mariko said as she smiled.
As Mariko took an empty seat which was located diagonally to Danny's left side, the ghost boy subtly glanced to see the boys looking at him with jealousy and gulped nervously. However, with Sam, her focus was on the new girl as she glared, gritted her teeth, and clenched her pencil with so much force that it broke in two. Tucker saw that and had a worried look as well.
"This may not end well." he silently comments
After the first class period ended, Mariko was at her locker grabbing a different textbook before closing it. However, before she could walk to class, a random teen accidentally bumps into her which caused him to drop his books.
"Are you okay?" Mariko asked as she helped the person gather his belongings.
Then, she sees the same redhead kid who was tormented earlier.
"Here." Mariko said while handing him his books.
"Uh...thanks." the redhead boy said with hesitation as he took his books from her
"You're welcome." the Japanese girl replied with a kind smile.
As she walked away to get to her math class, a blonde jock blocks her path, one that Mariko recognized.
"Kon'nichiwa babe! I'm Dash Baxter, star quarterback of Casper High" the blonde jock says with a phony tone as he flexed in front of her. "Which brings me to my question, do you like quarterbacks?"
Mariko glared at Dash with disgust before she said
"Ugh! Get out of my way."
The Japanese girl shoved Dash aside with her free hand which caused the jock to bump his head into a locker
"Ow!" Dash exclaimed as he rubbed his head to soothe pain.
The blonde looks at Mariko, unable to comprehend that she rejected him before Dash stormed off to his locker.
After three more class periods, it was almost lunch time as Mariko was placing her textbooks and backpack into her locker before closing it. Once she turned around, she sees the same Latina girl from before who was smiling at her
"Can I help you?"
"Hi. I'm Paulina. It's very nice to meet you Mariko." Paulina said
Despite that Paulina was being nice to her, the Japanese girl knew that this individual was being a total phony. However, both Paulina and Mariko were unaware that Sam was watching them at a distance.
"State your business." Mariko said
"Well, I was wondering, how would you like to join our most popular club, the A-Listers?" Paulina asked
"A-Listers?" Mariko asks with a raised eyebrow
"Oh, you know. A club that only the cool kids are able to join." Paulina says as she got out several cards. "Here's your cool kids membership package if you want to be a part of it."
Mariko looks down at the said items in Paulina's hand with curiosity. Sam took it as a bad sign as she thought
"Oh great. Another spoiled brat joining them. Danny is going to be heartbroken when he finds out."
However, when Mariko looked up to Paulina, she smiled a fake smile, not that the Latina girl noticed as she said.
"And here is my counteroffer..."
Suddenly, Mariko backhanded the cards out of Paulina's hand, causing them to fall as the Latina girl clasped her hand to soothe the slight pain while Sam was surprised
"Hey! Why did you do that for?!" she whines
Mariko drops her fake smile as she glared at Paulina
"Do not think that you can deceive me with that two-faced character of yours!" Mariko said. "I know that you only want to befriend me for my wealth. I can smell shallow parasites like you coming from a mile away!"
Sam went wide-eyed as she witnessed the exchange while Paulina looked like she was royally disrespected
"Oh no! You did not just call me shallow, did you?!"
"Yes I did!" Mariko replied. "And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what you really are!"
Then, Mariko proceeded to speak in her native language with venom as Sam...and now Valerie watched.
"Anata wa riko-tekide, goka de, atama ga suite ite, jiko chūshin-tekide, amayakasa re sugite, asaku, amayakasa rete sodatta gakidesu!"
Paulina was confused before she asked
"Um, what does that mean?"
"I'll gladly spell it out for you." Mariko said before she got in Paulina's face with a glare. "You are a selfish, pompous, empty-headed, self-centered, over pampered, shallow, spoiled brat!"
To Paulina, every word that Mariko said was like a slap to the face as she had an appalled expression. All the while, Sam was delighting in every moment of Paulina being torn to pieces by this new girl as Valerie tried to contain her laughter.
"I'm not interested in joining that stupid club of yours." Mariko said. "So you can take your package and ram it down your throat!"
Paulina turned from shocked to angry as she shouts
"Just so you know Mariko! I'm the last person you want to mess with!"
"On the contrary Paulina, you are the first." Mariko counters
As Mariko walks away, Paulina stared at the Japanese girl with angry eyes. All the while, Sam and Valerie had different thoughts on this new girl.
"Wow! The shallow little witch got her just desserts!" Sam thought with glee
"I can't believe she dissed Paulina like that!" Valerie thought from her own experience when Paulina abandoned her when she needed help.
In another part, Danny was on his way to the cafeteria as he saw Sam and Tucker catch up to him.
"Hey dude!" Tucker called
"Danny!" Sam happily called
"Hey guys!" Danny said with a smile.
"Ready for lunch?" Sam asked
Danny rubs the back of his head as he nervously said,
"Actually, I told Mariko that I would give her a tour before lunch."
"Oh...that's right." Sam said with a scowl.
Before anything could be said and done, the trio hear a female voice.
"Daniel-san...?"
Danny turned around to see a smiling Mariko approaching.
"Mariko!" he says, happy to see her
"If you're not too busy, I'm ready for the tour." she says.
"You don't mind if I bring my friends, Sam and Tucker, do you?" Danny asked as he gestures to his friends.
Mariko shook her head before she said
"Not at all. You are more than welcomed to bring them."
However, Sam interrupts them by saying
"Actually, we'll wait for you in the cafeteria."
"We will?" Tucker asks
Sam struck the boy with her elbow as Tucker got the message.
"Oh yeah, we will."
"Um...okay. We'll be back shortly." Danny said while waving to his friends,
As Mariko took Danny's hand and walked away with him, Sam was glaring daggers while her fists were clenched and shaking, seething with rage and jealousy. The goth girl wasn't the only one who saw them
The two teens walked past Valerie who looked at Mariko with envy.
"Here. We have the pool."
Danny was giving the basics to Mariko as he first showed her the classroom that had different subjects, the gymnasium, the auditorium, library, nurse's office, and the football field. Right now, they were at the pool building as the last part of the tour.
"It reminds me of my old high school back in Japan, only everything you showed me was all in one building." Mariko comments. "Except for the football field."
"I'll bet." Danny comments.
Suddenly, Dash surprises Danny as the blonde jock grabs him by the shirt and lifts him up
"Hey Fen-turd! What's a loser like you doing with this hottie?!"
Mariko glared at Dash and said.
"Let him go!"
Dash looked at Mariko before he drops Danny and puts on his charm
"So babe, wanna ditch the loser and go out with me?" he asks offering his arm
"As far as I'm concerned, the only loser here is you! Besides, I told Lancer-sama that I chose Daniel-san as my guide!" Mariko says
Dash was flabbergasted that this Japanese girl called him a loser and preferred Danny's company. He tried to charm her by flexing his arms and said
"Come on! Can you really say no to this?"
Danny glanced at Mariko before he sees her smile a fake one. Dash thought she was considering his offer as she held out her hand. Right when he grasped it, Dash was suddenly pulled towards Mariko as she struck him in the stomach with her knee.
"Ow!" Dash cried
Then, Mariko used a shoulder throw to send Dash flying into the pool. The blonde jock landed into the water with a splash before he came up to the surface as the girl said
"Can, will, and done!"
Dash could only watch Mariko help Danny up.
"Sorry you had to see that." Danny apologized
"You don't need to apologize on his behalf, Daniel-san." Mariko said compassionately.
"What do you say we go to the cafeteria." Danny suggested
"As you wish." Mariko says with a genuine smile
The two teens left the pool building to head to the cafeteria while Dash was confused
In the cafeteria, Danny and Mariko were walking towards the table that Sam and Tucker usually sit at. The goth girl was happy to see Danny again, but then subtly scowled when she saw who was accompanying him. While the two sat down, a soaking wet Dash entered the cafeteria as his shoes made a squeaking sound with every footstep.
"Whoa! What happened to you?" a jock named Dale asked
"Don't ask..." Dash grimaced as he sat down
While Dash glared at Danny, Paulina was more focused on Mariko sitting with Danny and his friends as she stared at the Japanese girl with pure anger in her eyes
"She won't get away with insulting me!" the Latina girl thought in anger
All the while, Danny was with his friends and Mariko as they talked amongst each other.
"So, how do you like it here so far?" Danny asked
"Casper High is nice. It reminds of my old high school back in Tokyo." Mariko replied
However, in her mind, she thought to herself
"The only thing I despise are those so-called "A-Listers"."
Sam was subtly scowling at Mariko while she was eating her salad. While the goth girl admired that the Japanese girl refused to join the A-Listers, Sam disliked Mariko for being around Danny. The goth girl was certain that this new girl may be up to something. Mariko being the daughter of Kenji Watanabe and genuinely befriending Danny didn't add up at all, in her opinion.
"I don't know what you're planning, but I'll be watching you." Sam thought
"I got to admit, we've never met anyone who's rich but prefers to be nice to people like us." Tucker comments
"Well, Daniel-san told me about you and Sam when we first met." Mariko replied. "Even if he did not, I want to have true friends who like me for me, not for my wealth."
"Say, do you know any single girls from Tokyo by any chance?" Tucker asks
However, Sam subtly stomped on Tucker's foot as she glared at him.
"Ow!" Tucker yelped.
Danny just rose an eyebrow as he saw what Sam subtly did to Tucker.
Time was passing through as it was now the end of the school day. Mariko was closing her locker door after packing her textbooks into her backpack. As the Japanese girl started to walk down the hallways to reach the exit of the school, she sees the A-Listers in her path. The Japanese girl rolled her eyes, knowing why they were in front of her as she said with a glare and an annoyed tone
"What do you want?"
A jock of Asian decent named Kwan stepped up and said.
"Listen. Sorry we made ourselves look bad in front of you."
"Yeah. Besides that, normally I take what you did to me as an offense." Dash said, "but I know you're playing hard to get so I'll let it go."
"Who's really playing?" Mariko counters with a glare
That is when the blonde girl named Star stepped up and immediately shook hands with Mariko, despite being one sided
"It's nice to meet you in my perspective!"
Mariko took her hand away from Star's grasp which shocked her
"Do you honestly believe that you lot can fool me?" Mariko asks. "As I said, I have no interest in joining your stupid, meaningless club."
"But you're the daughter of a Japanese billionaire!" Paulina says
"And you're pretty hot as well." Dash adds, causing Mariko to lower her eyes in annoyance. "Why hang out with the losers when you can hang with us?"
"Losers?" Mariko asks with a raised eyebrow
"Oh you know, nerds, geeks, the works." Paulina says. "Besides, I bet you pay someone handsomely to do your homework for you, right?"
"Wrong!" Mariko counters. "I am fully capable of doing my own homework and maintain straight A's."
The group laugh at the Japanese girl's words
"Good one!" Dash says
Mariko glares at the group as she says
"I am not attempting to amuse any of you."
The A-Listers were silent and confused as Mariko continues speaking
"You honestly believe that you are going to get anywhere in life by taking shortcuts or torment innocent students to do something you should be doing on your own?! In my point of view, you lot are the real losers!"
Suddenly, they hear an explosion at a distance, behind Mariko. While the Japanese girl looked, the A-Listers look in the same direction she was to see Danny Phantom forced back into a locker before being pinned by a robotic ghost with a flaming green mohawk.
"Can't we fight some other time Skulker?! I've got homework to do!" Danny Phantom says
"The hunt ends for no one!" Skulker counters. "I'll never rest until I hang your pelt on my wall."
During the commotion, the A-Listers, except Paulina, were frightened at the sight of the two ghosts
"AAAHH! GHOST!" Dash screamed
While most of the A-Listers ran off, Mariko shook her head while saying
"Okubyomono!"
(Translation: Cowards!)
The Japanese girl ran towards Skulker as he was aiming his arm mounted laser at Danny Phantom. Suddenly, she surprised him with a jump kick which startled the half-ghost.
"Phantom-san!"
"Uh...thanks, miss..." Danny Phantom says in an awkward tone
The Japanese girl remembered that this ghost does not know her name as she said
"Oh. Forgive me, Phantom-san. I am Mariko." she bows to him in respect
However, Paulina gasped in shock as she watched Mariko talking to Danny Phantom and bowing to him.
"Oh no! She better not be flirting with my ghost boy!" the Latina girl thought in anger
Suddenly, Skulker rose up as he aimed his weapon at the Japanese girl who attacked him
"You'll pay for interfering with my hunt!" the ghostly hunter shouts
"Mariko! RUN!" Danny Phantom shouts
Instead of running, Mariko charged at Skulker as she dodged the energy bolts fired from his laser. Once she got in range, the girl karate-chopped the elbow joint, causing Skulker's arm to bend out of reflex. As another energy bolt was charged, the girl forced the weapon to aim for Skulker's head. The weapon fires, blasting Skulker's mechanical head off. It flies to a nearby wall before falling to the floor, popping the faceplate open to reveal a tiny green ghost inside.
"Huh...?" the Japanese girl says in confusion
"Yeah. It's kind of a long story." Danny Phantom comments
The ghost boy grabs the real Skulker before tossing him into the air and sucked him into the Fenton Thermos. Once he sealed the cap, Danny Phantom flies away as Mariko calls out to him
"Wait!"
Once again, Danny Phantom was gone.
As Mariko looked around for any sign of the ghost boy, she hears an annoying Latina girl's voice
"Hey!"
She turns around to see an angry Paulina storming up to her
"Stay away from my ghost boy!"
"Your ghost boy?" Mariko asks in curiosity. "Last I checked, I didn't see a ring on his finger and he didn't mention anything about you being his girlfriend."
Paulina was stunned silent as Mariko said to her
"Besides that, I didn't see you step in to help him."
The Latina girl was seething with jealousy and anger before she stormed off without making any witty comebacks while thinking
"Bad enough she insulted me! Now she is trying to steal my ghost boy too?!"
Mariko just rolled her eyes in annoyance before hears a familiar voice, one that made her smile
"Mariko?"
"Daniel-san!" she says, turning around.
"What just happened?" Danny asks
"I do not know the reason why Phantom-san was here." Mariko said before she says.
"But you were right about things like this happening on a daily basis."
Danny sheepishly smiled before he said
"I better get home. I got homework to do like everyone else."
"So do I." Mariko replies. "If I want to become a doctor someday, like my mother, I need to maintain straight A's."
Danny was surprised that not only does Mariko have beauty, humility, and courage, but she also has intelligence. Somehow, Danny was being drawn towards Mariko; only he was genuinely becoming attracted to her, unlike being attracted to Paulina mainly for her beauty. Soon, he snapped out of his trance-like state as Danny heard Mariko say to him
"I must go." she hugs Danny. "I'll see you tomorrow, Daniel-san."
After Mariko released her hold, she walks away to go home as Danny blushed while watching her leave. Then, he remembers that he has to return home; not only to do his homework, but to send Skulker back into the Ghost Zone as well. As the half-ghost started to walk home, he was unaware that a pair of lavender eyes watched the whole event.
Sam saw Mariko help Danny against Skulker. The goth girl did not imagine that this girl was able to handle a ghost without any weapons. Not only that, she refused to join the A-Listers again. Also, she gave Paulina another round of insults. However, when she saw the Japanese girl hug her best friend, she gritted her teeth as she clenched her fists that were shaking...literally.
"You okay Sam?" Tucker asked in concern
"Of course I am." Sam says with sarcasm. "Why shouldn't I be? Danny has obviously made a new friend!"
Sam growled in anger as she was boiling with jealousy before she delivered a punch to another locker. This time, she made a dent that was larger before the goth girl walked away.
"Deja vu much?" Tucker asks no one in particular
At a lavish house, Mariko was finishing up the last of her homework assignments in her room. As she was putting away her school supplies into her back, she hears a knock on her door.
"Hairu."
(Translation: enter)
Then, the bedroom door opens to reveal a man. He was in a business suit, had black hair in a topknot, and brown eyes. His face had a well-trimmed full beard and had a gentle expression.
"Kon'nichiwa musume." he says in a gentle tone
(Translation: Hello daughter)
Mariko happily ran to the man and hugged him
"Kon'nichiwa otosan!" Mariko replies happily
(Translation: Hello father)
"Kyo gakko dodatta?"
(Translation: How was your day at school)
"Soreha...Omoshiroi, otosan." Mariko replied while she glanced to the left
(Translation: It was...interesting, father)
The man smiled before he said
"Anata no okāsan wa anata ga atarashī tomodachi ni atta to watashi ni itta. Honto?" the man asks
(Translation: Your mother told me that you met a new friend. Is that true?)
"Hai otosan. Watashi no tomodachi no namae wa danī fentondesu."
(Translation: Yes father. My friend's name is Danny Fenton)
The man chuckled before he said
"Kare ni aeruto ī nodesuga."
(Translation: I hope I get to meet him)
Mariko nods and said
"Toki ga kureba, anata wa so surudeshou."
(Translation: When the time comes, you will)
Then, Mariko and her father hear a woman's voice call out in Japanese
"Mariko! Kenji shin'ainaru! Tadaima!"
(Translation: Mariko! Kenji dear! I'm home!)
The man named Kenji calls to the woman
"Marikonoheya, Harumi no imasu!"
(Translation: I'm in Mariko's room, Harumi)
Kenji leaves the room to go and greet his wife. After putting away the last of her items, Mariko looks at her smart phone on her desk when she saw and heard it go off with a notification that she received a text message. Checking it, the girl discovered that it was Danny who texted her
Smiling, she sent a reply to him after reading the message. Before receiving another reply, Mariko heard her mother calling her to come downstairs for dinner. The girl immediately sent Danny a text, informing him that she'll be eating dinner with her family. Then, Mariko reads Danny's reply quickly before placing her device on her desk and left her room to join her parents.
Well. Another chapter done. Stay tuned where Mariko is introduced to the Fenton family.

Dreams Come True 996: I can say that I've got no argument on your honesty because I agree with you. Also, when I read the story "After Many Dates: Danny and Kim" by NeoMark,I must admit that I agree with him about Phantom Planet being poorly written. As for the pairing of Danny and Mariko being a couple, you called it right. You'll see what I have in mind in the long run
