Author's Headnote: Incase you haven't I recommend checking out my other Fanfiction: RWBY: Festival of Blood, it's revolved around the concept of Ruby being turned into a vampire, the tradeoff is that it tends to take liberties with canon. Glad to see people like this work. So, without any further a do, let's hop into it.
Also, great to see people like this. You people are a lot more talkative here than with my other fanwork.
Ruby the Renegade: Initiation Day
Beacon Academy, 6:00 AM, Tuesday, Dormitory Commons
One may be wondering why Ruby is awake this early. Well, it's because her playlist ended up starting playing a song featuring the voice of Weiss Schnee. Ruby hates Weiss, with a passion. So, hearing her voice made her briefly enter a burst of rage. She didn't wake anyone else up, though. And she's grateful for it.
She was at the Dormitory Commons, where she had gotten the instructions to get breakfast there... it was filled with tables, chairs, couches, televisions... basically it was a giant living room/dining room hybrid. Makes sense, being the first floor of the dorms.
Ruby went to one of the tables and got herself some breakfast. Steak, served well done. Two eggs, over-easy. Along with a strawberry waffle with some butter. No syrup. Ruby doesn't like syrup. She also got a glass of strawberry milk to go with her breakfast. Why does Ruby like Well done steak? Simple, because anything under Medium-well is too moist for Ruby to enjoy, in addition she doesn't like the taste of the blood. She does not see herself enjoying blood in any possible and realistic scenario.
She was eating her steak with a fork and knife, and she placed the eggs ontop of her waffle. Simple way to organize her choice breakfast. She's eating her breakfast well until...
"HELLO FELLOW STUDENT!" A ginger girl yelled in her ear! She was wearing a lot of pink, and tended to wear heart-shaped stuff. She also is smiling a lot. She reminds Ruby of Yang... if Yang were somehow more annoying than she already is.
"Gah!" Ruby screamed, and reacted with punching the air.
"Don't like surprises, do you?"
"No, I don't. Now leave me alone. I'm eating breakfast."
"Well... my name is Nora. And this is my friend Ren. Hey, we're all up early! Wanna be Early squad?" Nora stated. Ren waved after he was mentioned. "Oh, is that steak cooked well done?"
"Yes, and I don't like it when people criticize me for eating it that way. And no... I prefer to work alone."
"Well, you can't work alone! You need to be in a team. Ren and I will most likely be on the same team. Oooh. Maybe we can find some call signs. Maybe make sloth sounds!" Nora said, and proceeded to make a bunch of random noises.
Ruby was being irritated... she just wanted to eat her breakfast in peace. Nora continued to make those noises even as she's eating breakfast... which her breakfast was just pancakes. Yes. Only pancakes. No butter, no drink, no syrup, just pancakes. She must get really thirsty often.
As for her friend, Ren. He was eating a traditional Mistrallian breakfast.
And despite Ruby's request, they did not leave her alone. They even went as far as to sit with her at the same table as Ruby... she was getting aggravated. She did not like being near people...
"Oooh... what's wrong? Why don't you just turn that frown upside down?" Nora said, as she puts her fingers at Ruby's lips... forming a smile, as soon as Nora let go... they went and formed a frown again.
"Nora... I don't think she wants to be friends with us." Ren said.
"Oh, come on... she just woke up on the wrong side of the sleeping bag. Right?" Nora asked.
"Your friend is right. I specifically said that I don't want you sitting with me." Ruby said, with an aggravated tone.
The two of them got up and left Ruby's table... only to sit at the table right next to her... they are really persistant. Well, after Ruby finished her breakfast, she went and put her dishes in the sink and went to the Locker Room.
Beacon Academy, 6:34 AM, Tuesday, Locker Room
She went to the locker room. Yes, Locker room. Literally an entire room, dedicated to rocket-launched lockers. getting her weapon ready. She knows where her locker is... although vomit boy wouldn't be so lucky given, he was stuffed into one of those rocket lockers on the first day of school. Although one may question why have a roof in this building? Seriously? Why is there a roof in this part of the building if it's filled with homing rocket-powered lockers! Ruby decides not to think about it too much. Since it would just make her pointlessly angry.
Ruby was at her locker, getting Crescent Rose out. Although she is being followed by Nora and her reasonable friend. She is just really upset about this... she may as well get her headphones on, listen to some classical symphony's and ignore the girl's rants whilst leaning back on the closest locker she was on. Ruby doesn't want to get suspended on the second day of school. But... these people really make it hard for her.
After an hour, someone yanked on her headphones, Ruby took them off and looked at who yanked at them.
"What?" Ruby asked impatiently.
"I know you said not to bother you again, but you're leaning on my locker." the girl with the black bow said.
Ruby sighed... and reluctantly got up from the locker.
"Thank you." the girl with the black bow said.
"Don't talk to me." Ruby stated.
"Well, that's not a very nice thing to say to her." Nora said.
"Well, it seems you've beaten me to the punch." Yang said, who had just gotten her weapons out.
"There was punch? Awwww maaaan!"
"There was no literal punch, silly!"
Ruby growled as her sister was talking to Nora... taking two different brands of annoying and combining them...
"So... who's your friends, Ruby?" Yang asked.
"They're not my friends, those two decided to follow me for no reason." Ruby said in an irritated tone.
"Cause we both woke up early, you see! Maybe it's fate, maybe the four of us are to be on a team together!" Nora said, jumping around.
"Hell no. I don't want to be on a team with you!" Ruby said.
"Ruby. Be nice to your new- Woah! Almost lost my arm there." Yang said, dodging a spear, in which Vomit boy was pinned to.
"I thought girls liked confidence." Vomit boy said.
"Yes, they like confidence, not blatant lies." Ruby said as a response.
"Aaaawwwww..." Vomit boy groaned in defeat.
"I'm Sorry!" Some girl said.
"Ooooh, burn!" Nora commented.
"Shut up, Nora." Ruby said, angrily.
"Yang, let's hurry up and just get to the initiation." Ruby said.
"Not yet, I still need to catch up to my friends. Maybe you talk to your friends." Yang stated.
"They're not my friends. I don't have friends."
"What about me and Uncle Qrow?"
"You're family, that's different."
"Well, at least that's a plus."
"Can you go bother your friends like you said?"
"And I know the grimm more than like you!"
"Yang..."
"Ruby, you need to open up. It's for your health. Being negative all the time is not healthy for your growth."
"I'm still going through my growth spurt Yang. I don't need friends. I. Drink. Milk."
"You know exactly what I mean, Rudy."
Ruby growled after being called 'Rudy' again. She trailed off to the initiation site alone.
Beacon Academy, 8:00 AM, Tuesday, Launching cliff
The launching cliff. It was on the edge of the school grounds. There was grass covering the land, although it was a more diluted shade of green than the ones in the courtyard. There were launching pads all over the area.
Ruby was the first student to show up. She went to go to any launching site, but it appears the Headmaster already has a pre-selected pad for Ruby... which is incredibly odd. But no matter Ruby had gotten to the platform, and got her weapon out.
Eventually, the rest of the students had shown up. From what it looks like, this is a test of landing strategy. This makes sense, as these things tend to be important when falling from great heights, or jumping off helicopters. To avoid death. This is why huntsmen and huntresses have some sort of gun/melee weapon combination, so that the weapon can reduce and even negate the impact of the fall. And than she sees vomit boy with a sword and shield...
Yep, he's going to die here alright. There's no way that weapon set could be viable for modern landing strategy standards. How did he even get into Beacon?
But no matter... the headmaster was to give the instructions.
"Now I'm sure that you've heard rumors of there being assigned teams. But I can assure you, those rumors will be put to rest. You will be assigned teams. Today." Ozpin announced.
Second day of school and already she has to work with someone? Go figure... for all she knows, like all group projects, she just does all the heavy lifting and only get part of the credit.
"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with at initiation will be your partner for the rest of your school career." Ozpin added.
Well... that's straightforward. Ruby will feed bad for anyone paired up with Vomit boy. Yet again, he's most likely going to die anyway.
"After you have found your partner, you than have two objectives. The first objective is to head to the northern part of the forest, there you will find a relic. Retrieve one, and head back. I specifically have to mention this because last year a pair of students grabbed two relics instead of one." Ozpin added.
"What's the second objective?" Vomit boy asked.
"Survive. You need not to hesitate to destroy everything in your path here, for the creatures of grimm that inhabit the forest will not show mercy to you. Now you are to take your positions. Any additional questions?" Ozpin stated.
"Ya... where are the parachutes?" Vomit boy asked.
"There are no parachutes, you will be using your own landing strategy."
Yep... he's going to die.
Ruby was than launched in the air, she than performed her landing strategy.
Vale Outskirts, 8:08 AM, Tuesday, Emerald Forest
A couple of slashed trees and a couple of spent ammo. Ruby managed to land safely. The only causality being a small bird. Ruby than rushed and headed North. Ignoring the partner step of the instructions. Although she does have to worry about running into someone...
Let's see here...
Yang. She's familiar, so Ruby tolerates her most of the time. But she won't stop pestering about making friends.
Nora. Too jumpy and annoying. She's like Yang, but worse. Which is an accomplishment on it's own.
Ren. Quiet, Ruby can tolerate him because he almost never speaks and keeps his distance. Downside is that Nora will be accompanying him at all times.
That girl with the bow... distant, secretive, if her nose is not in a book, it will most likely be in her face. Which Ruby does not want at all.
Vomit boy... he's annoying, bothersome, incompetent, and most likely dead by now.
Well, those are the familiar options Ruby can think of... well except...
THUD!
Ruby knocked over someone... that someone is... Weiss Schnee. The last person Ruby wants to see... and now she's partners with this person.
Ruby got up and continued heading north... well... hopefully that's north. Since she bumped into Weiss, she took a bit longer to get up.
"Hey! Where do you think you're going!?" Weiss yelled, following Ruby.
"North, and away from you!" Ruby yelled back.
"How do you know that's north?"
"I don't, I just want to get away from that eyesore that is your face."
"We're partners! You can't ditch me!"
"You know you'd ditch me at first opportunity!"
"I would not, that would be against the rules!"
"Sucks to be you, I prefer to work alone. That means good news to you, you can just sit on your behind and be a good princess and let me do all the fighting."
"I can definitely handle a fight on my own!"
"I bet you can't even fight a boarbatusk without struggling."
"I definitely can!"
"Uh huh, sure, whatever. Now just stay back and don't do anything."
Ruby had to deal with literally the one person she hated the most. The only reason she's trying to stay her calm is so she doesn't get overwhelmed by grimm.
But that didn't stop the beowulves. Ruby prepared and got her scythe out. She than proceeded to slice them down with ease... well that is until a ball of fire was being hurled toward Ruby, Ruby was quick to dodge the fire ball and one of them hit a tree, the tree than started a fire. as a natural response, the grimm ran away from the fire, as grimm are not fireproof. Ruby also started to run away as far as possible. Weiss than followed.
Of course... it had to be her, no other explanation. Now because the princess wanted to help instead of sitting still and looking pretty, she started a forest fire... with ice.
"Hey Dumbass, watch where you aim your spells next time!" Ruby yelled.
"We're partners, we have to look out for each-other there was a beowulf trying to sneak you from behind."
"Don't bullshit me, I know you were trying to kill me."
"That's ridiculous!"
"Then you should use something other than a fireball! Because: newsflash dimwit, wood is flammable!"
"I'll have you know I graduated with the highest grades of my class."
"Oh, good, you know how to make the math teachers happy."
"That's not what I meant when I said that!"
"Ya ya, shut the hell up and keep moving." Ruby said, as she was moving towards a single direction. She than sees a nevermore.
Nevermore naturally travel north, so she decided to follow the nevermore from the sky. She went and ran, following the nevermore.
Ruby than decided to use this opportunity to ditch Weiss for good, as to use Crescent Rose to launch herself in the air, and hop on top of the trees. She would than hop on them to follow the nevermore northword.
Would she ride the nevermore? Well, it would save some time... and it would most likely go after some of the easier targets in comparison to Ruby. But that would be a bad idea as she would have to jump down and fall...
Ruby than arrived to what appears to be a bunch of chess pieces aligned in the area. She than jumped down and headed toward the ruins. She grabbed the white knight piece and put it somewhere safe. She noticed that she wasn't the first one here... there's two other people here. In addition, three other relics were taken.
The first one is that girl with the black bow. The second one is Ruby's sister, Yang.
"Oh, hey Rubes. Glad to see you didn't die either!" Yang said in a jokingly manner.
"That's your sister?" the girl with the bow asked.
"Yes Blake, that's my sister, Ruby Rose. I did warn you she's a bit anti-social."
"She was blocking the way to my locker earlier this morning, and I first met her giving Weiss Schnee a black eye." Blake stated.
"Yang. I'm standing right here, you idiot!" Ruby yelled.
"I was in the middle of a conversation with my partner, Blake." Yang retorted.
"Wait, not get off topic... but, where's Ruby's partner?" Blake asked.
"Oh... ya... I ditched her to get the relic by myself." Ruby said.
"Okay, not even one week in, and already you've left someone to die." Yang stated.
"To be fair, she's a bitch."
"RUBY! Language!"
"Hey, she well deserves to be called that."
"Wait, your partner's Weiss Schnee, isn't it?" Blake asked.
"Unfortunately. I'd rather take Vomit Boy over her." Ruby responded.
"THAT'S NOT THE REEEEELIC!" Vomit boy yelled at the distance, as he ran toward the rest of the group, along with on particular red-headed girl.
"Speak of the devil." Yang commented.
"You're still alive?" Ruby asked Vomit boy.
"I have a name, you know!" Vomit boy snapped. "It's-"
"WEEEEEEEEEEE! Aaawww... it's broken." Nora said, who rode on an ursa on the way here... the ursa than disappeared into nothing. Oh, and Ren was there with her.
"Did she just ride in on an Ursa?" Blake asked.
"Yes, captain obvious." Ruby retorted.
Ruby than saw Nora eyeing the black rook chess piece... Nora than grabbed it and placed it on her head. "I'M QUEEN OF THE CASTLE I'M QUEEN OF THE- Oof!" Nora said, before losing her balance and falling down.
The red head than also grabbed a relic, also a black rook. She than looked around. "That's odd."
"What?" Nora asked.
"There's only seven of us here... shouldn't there be eight?" the red-head asked.
"Ya... there should be... where's the eighth person?" Vomit boy asked.
"Well... Ruby here decided it would be a good idea to ditch her partner back at the forest." Blake stated.
Vomit boy and his red-head partner than looked at Ruby with a scolding look. And shook their head in disappointment.
"So... you just left your-" the red head said, before being interrupted.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!" Weiss screamed, then had herself planted on the floor... leaving a Weiss-shaped hole on the ground.
"Great, the gang's all here. Now we can get the heck out of here!" Yang said, helping Weiss out from the crater...
"My aura took a lot of damage in that fall." Weiss complained.
"That has got to hurt." Vomit boy said.
"You think?"
"Why did Ruby's partner ride in on a nevermore?" Blake asked.
"I didn't want use up my aura finding her. Hopefully, my aura can recover before the nevermore shows up again." Weiss said
"How would you use a soul shield to find Ruby?" Vomit boy asked.
"My semblance." Weiss responded.
"Your what?"
"You have got to be kidding me!" Ruby yelled.
"Ruby, calm down." Yang consoled.
"I'm wondering how he managed to get here without knowing what a semblance... or without a modern weapon! Seriously. What kind of landing strategy uses only a classic sword and shield?"
"I still don't know what a landing strategy is, can someone explain?"
Ruby groaned in anger at this. He cannot be this stupid. He can't. "Are you kidding me!?" Ruby yelled.
"He doesn't sound like he's ready for this level of combat." Blake commented.
"Well, he's doing something right if could manage to get this far without a landing strategy or a semblance." Yang commented.
"Or he's just incredibly lucky." Weiss stated.
"You know what? I take it back. Weiss I'm glad I got you as my partner instead of Vomit boy." Ruby said in anger.
"I'm not sure if I should be flattered or offended by that comment." Weiss said in confusion.
And while the conversation occurred the nevermore and deathstalker both ambushed the distracted group of eight students...
Beacon Academy, 3:45 PM, Tuesday, Theater Room
"Lead by... Jaune Arc." Ozpin said, announcing team JNPR, consisting of Jaune Arc (Vomit Boy), Nora Valkyrie, Pyrrha Nikos, and Lie Ren.
The theater room. From what the second-year students, combat practice is typically taken place here, if there's an assembly or an event, they go to the indoor combat arena instead. Likewise, there are chairs in front of the theater. In which is large enough for a basic combat stance. A simple arena, really.
After the officially named: Team JNPR steps down from the arena. Ruby along with her reluctant partner, Weiss. Along with Yang and her partner, Blake steps up to the theater. Although despite Ruby's distant and negative relations with Weiss and Blake, they do make a good team together.
"Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Yang Xiao Long. You four have went and collected the White Knight pieces, and from this moment fourth, you four are known as: Team RWBY. Lead by... Ruby Rose." Ozpin announced.
Like that's not gonna cause some confusion. Her team name is pronounced the same way as her own name. And she's the leader no less...
"Looks like you can't solo this one, Rubes." Yang said sarcastically.
Ruby growled as a response. Weiss looked at Ruby with what seems to be surprise and anger. Blake doesn't look like she cared.
After that, the newly named team RWBY had stepped down from the stage. And they've gotten a key to their dorm.
Beacon Academy, 7:00 PM, Tuesday, Dormitory Commons
Ruby was eating dinner. Since she had steak for breakfast. She decided to have something else. Specifically, soup. What kind of soup? Well, she didn't care, she just ordered soup. Along with crackers and bread at the side. Which Ruby ends up cutting and eating with a fork and knife. She didn't bother ordering a drink since it was literally soup.
Weiss was eating a large salad. With bottled water to drink.
Blake was eating well... grilled tuna with lettuce leaves as a side. She also has a glass of milk. That is an interesting choice.
Yang was of course, eating chicken wings, with a side of ghost chili peppers. She got more napkins as a request from Ruby as she makes a large mess. The sauce is at maximum spiciness, because her taste buds must love the sensation of fire being burned. She got herself some orange soda. But for the sake of her tongue, Ruby got her some milk and water. Not to worry, Yang's a big eater... the size of her plate says a lot.
Ruby was eating... and no conversation could be heard from the table team RWBY is at. Sure, many of the newly formed teams were talking and getting to know each other. But at the table of team RWBY. There was awkward silence. Blake was keeping her distance when eating... Weiss and Ruby were eyeing each other aggressively. And Yang was eating slowly as she saw her teammates being incredibly anti-social or aggressive towards each other.
"So... umm... Blake. Err... what's your favoirte book?" Yang asked, breaking the silence.
"You wouldn't like it, it's very niche." Blake said dismissively.
"Favorite TV-show?"
"Never watched TV."
"Favorite video-game?"
"Never played one."
"Favorite comic book?"
"Never read one of those."
"Graphic novel?"
"Not that either."
"Web-show?"
"never watched one of those."
"Webcomic?"
"Errr... I've never read one... ever."
"What did you do for fun, then?"
"I read."
"And what book are you currently reading?"
"It's called the man with two souls. It's a book with an incredibly deep meaning behind it."
"Funny thing, you know I've actually read that book." Weiss added.
Ruby sighed and chugged down her soup and went to put the dishes in the sink. "I'm going to bed." Ruby said, heading to leave the commons.
"It's only 7PM!" Yang objected.
"And? I don't want to sleep during class time, unlike you."
"Ooooh, burn!" Nora commented in the background.
Ruby didn't bother catching herself in another argument and just walked away. She knew it was the right thing to do.
Beacon Academy, 7:14 PM, Tuesday, RWBY Dormitory
Like any normal dorm., and not some sitcom. The RWBY Dormitory consists of a bedroom with a kitchenette, along with a bathroom with a bathtub/shower hybrid. Maybe in some bizarre alternate timeline the dormitory would have more rooms. But this is not the case here. Since it was just like any other dormitory would be. Ruby didn't bother to shower or change out of anything other than her shoes when she decided to go to sleep.
She hopes her team doesn't mind being woken up early...
Author's Footnote: Ya, I skipped the deathstalker and nevermore fight, only because the events there basically remained the same. And I would have had Yang be the leader instead of Ruby, but again, I said I try not to tread on canon too much. I also feel sorry for Yang, being the only nice and outgoing member of a team who is filled with people who wouldn't talk to each other very much. The pairing is still up to debate though. And despite being dismissing and being outright mean to Nora, she's very persistent. And given the relationship with Ruby and Weiss... I doubt they're going to be friends... at all... like... ever...
Also, make sure to check out my other Fanfiction, RWBY: Festival of Blood. See ya next chapter.
