I don't own YGO
Celine actually wanted to game alone for a while, until she figured out mechanics. It seemed something in the headset scanned your thoughts, and created whatever it was you could picture. But you had to picture it, and know it well enough to manifest it. Another part was skills. Grumish The Almighty was a strength character. Good for farming resources like chopping trees and mining stone. Basics for a base. But Grumish wouldn't know how to build such a thing. She'd need something smarter. With the magic available to replace the strength lost in Grumish.
Minesus was a Aarakacra Wizard, and with her knowledge, that told Celine she actually needed a druid. Druid's had the magic of roots and vines and could be used to make a home out of their natural magic and the resources provided. Perfect.
Swift Wind was an Half- Elf Druid Celine had played years ago, she'd been a healer, and a caster. Mold Earth shaped a foundation, and Shape Stone made her walls. She made several tunnels out for escape from a hidden basement, and worked well into the game's set night time, with only the stars out.
Fortunately she did hold night vision, allowing her to see in shifting shades of gray. Celine wrapped the walls in vines and trees, hiding her building from immediate view.
'Druids really aren't given enough credit.' She told herself as she used Druidcraft to start a number of flowers to grow along the shady bases of the trees.
"You seem to be doing well."
The voice startled her, and Celine immediately turned into the shape Swift Wind used to defend herself, a large sun bear.
As a bear she could see the man standing before her. Tall, well dressed, and apparently smelled of something rich, like amber.
Kaiba.
Celine eased the bear back on it's haunches and moved one of the heavy paws in a wave.
His head cocked at her and Celine immediately shifted to her true self, standing before him barefoot in the soft moss of the forest floor.
"You said reality is what you want it to be… I wanted to be Grumish The Almighty. So I was." She said back.
"Correct… you've taken well. I've noticed you seem to have a number of characters at your disposal."
Celine nodded.
"Where are they from?"
"Dungeons and Dragons." She said with a crooked smile. "I play a lot… or I used too. I've made a lot of characters. Different adventures that lasted a lifetime in game… Once I figured out how, it was just a matter of deciding what I need when I need it… The elf was a druid… I… have a ranger I was thinking to use for traps and boundaries. A Wizard to figure out what I'm missing. I'm sure I could pull from other games too, but I know these characters best. So I thought I'd start there."
Kaiba studied her once more, with that same blank expression she couldn't read.
"That's resourceful."
"Well that's the point isn't it? To test us?"
He smirked. "Yes it is."
A long finger poked her chest. "What's your name?"
Celine looked up into those sharp blue eyes. "Celine McFall."
"I'll be expecting good things from you, Celine McFall."
Celine felt a rush of adrenaline dump into her system. "You won't be disappointed."
[~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~]
By the end of the second day in-game, Celine had her base constructed. A small house that led down to a burrow. Underground she had plenty of space. A room for food storage, a room for resources, one where she made her bed and spawn point. There were a number of dead ends and false tunnels too. Precautions against intruders.
For some reason, she wasn't able to transform into animals like she was able to shift to Grumish, or the others. Something was preventing her, be it software or mindset, however she did find a work around through Swift Wind, the Druid. They naturally held animal shapes, like the bear. As long as she was the druid when she changed, she seemed to be able to turn into what she needed.
Today it was a raven. She was scouting. She wanted to spy on the others.
She never asked herself if she knew how to fly. The Druid knew. The raven knew.
From the air a soft calm fell over her. It was like… a larping competition. How well did you know your characters? Your trademarks and favorites? Celine was fortunate to have many through the years.
The first base she found was just to the south of hers, down river. A concrete and steel building was large, and round. Settling on it's roof and peeking in, she found a large Canadian flag draped along one wall. Ted and Roger. In the center of the building was an ice rink, with several doors leading off that no doubt led to supply and bedrooms. It was nice, and as a team they had the benefit of shared resources. Perhaps she would form an alliance at the least, the pair didn't seem so bad.
Bounding off she found the Chinese to the East, they stuck with a traditional building, with elaborate gold and rich red sloping roofs. They set up on the river too, but on a separate branch of the Canadians. She arched up and fell into an airstream, allowing the warm wind to carry her high above the ground.
Everyone was moving around below. She saw Carson, the American with a rather basic base set up at the edge of a swampy everglades area, his house high on stilts above the wash and what appeared to be an airboat tied to a dock. Carson must be from Florida, or Louisiana. A red white and blue flag out front marking it as home.
She found Yugi and Joey together, their base incomplete, but seeming to be shaped into that of a pyramid, the base starting as a square and working up. They were the first to suspect something. Their response had been an arrow whizzing passed her left wingtip. The shave would be close enough to knock her off course.
She tried desperately to right herself, but another arrow shot up, this time slamming into her left shoulder.
There wasn't pain, but a red haze dimmed around her vision. She was hurt. Shift out? She'd plummet. There's no way she'd be able to shift back in time.
She was falling now. The red pulsing as she dropped. She released the raven form, and shifted to the druid. Time for one spell. Reverse Gravity. It was a big one, one of her higher spell slots, but in theory it should throw her right back-
Yes!
Celine's elf rocketed skyward, and now much higher, shifted into another animal shape, this one a giant eagle.
With a scream she soared off back towards her base. That was enough adventure for her. Maybe she'd talk with some of her more friendly neighbors.
