The Next Generation
CHAPTER 2
Steven huffed and breathed heavily as he ran down the stone pathway trying to tie a red headband as he hurried.
"Oh man I can't believe I overslept. Everyone is probably waiting for me." Steven fused as he ran
The boy was now out of his regular clothes now wearing his training attire. A Salmon Pink Tank Top with a bright yellow star in the center, a red belt and wristbands, blue martial arts pants, and his salmon pink flip flop sandals. He rushed about reaching what appeared to be the courtyard, a square elevated platform with the Dragon Icon sat in the middle with a small shaded area in front of it. In the shaded area was a throne where Connie sat with two guards at her sides overlooking the arena, and in the arena stood the remaining 7 competitors.
"Hey look who made it." Cassie says with a smirk, the Hollywood girl now in her fight attire a blue sports bra with her name CASSIE on it, blue yoga pants, shin guards, wrapped hands and feet, with a green belt that had a gold buckle that said CAGE in the middle
"Heh, sorry I'm late!" Steven said embarrassed standing next to his friends
"About damn time. We should've just disqualified him and gotten on with this." The Purple fighter said annoyed
"Why didn't you guys wake me?" Steven whispers to his friends
"You were really exhausted from yesterday, figured we'd give ya a few more minutes to rest." Jin explained
"Plus you are so cute when you sleep." Cassie says pinching Steven's cheek
"Besides we knew you'd make it on time." Jin says as Cassie nods making Steven smile
"Congratulations to all of you. You are the final 8 kombatants, you all have made it through the preliminary challenges." Connie says as she stands up from her throne
Steven thinks back to yesterday and the preliminaries a set of challenges meant to find the ones who would advance to the tournament only 8 spots were open. It was truly a roulette wheel of activities, it reminded Steven of a video game. They had to test their might breaking various objects with a single strike.
Steven stood next to a female fighter each having a stack of bricks in front of them. Everyone cheered as a gong was rung, the two taking meditative stances and breathing deeply. After a minute the girl let out a battlecry raising her fist in the air and bringing it down onto the bricks. With a BAM she punched the bricks cracking a few of them, withdrawing her hand with a pained hiss. Steven was next gently raising his hand above his head with his eyes closed, after taking a deep breath Steven's eyes shot open and he let out his own battle cry as he brought his hand down with a chop. A CRACK filled the air as she split the bricks in half even going through the table. Everyone cheered as Steven bowed to the girl next to him offering to help her with her hand
Then there was a more difficult challenge, breaking a single object surrounded by something else without breaking the outer shell.
Cassie craned her neck and stretched out her arms as she stood before a metal box, inside was a single brick. Cassie smirked and winked to the crowd before taking a ready stance. After taking in a few deep breaths, she raises her leg over her head and with a "KIYAH!" slammed it down over the box. A GONG filled the area, the box shaking slightly, Cassie then smirked as she opened the box and dumped its contents, a pile of brick dust. Everyone cheered as Cassie bowed and blew kisses to the cheering crowd.
And then was one straight out of a carnival with them needing to find a single coin under 7 cups as they were switched around.
A coin with the dragon logo is shown before being put on a table and hidden under a cup. 6 more cups are put on the table and then shuffled around. The girl in Yellow stood before the table with a bored expression, her arms crossed, but her yellow eyes easily keeping up with the shuffle darting left to right in quick succession. As soon as she shuffle was done the girl immediately grabbed the furthest cup to the left revealing the coin, before walking off with a pleased smirk.
Then there was a Balancing challenge where people actually got to throw stuff at them to try and knock them off.
The masked boy and purple stood atop a thin plank with a calm expression, next to him was another male fighter on a similar Plank. From below some of the onlookers started throwing objects at the two, rocks, fruit, metal disc. The boy in purple was able to dodge them easily making slight movements that barely shook the plank, while the other was moving erratically. The other fighter was hit by a rock falling to the ground, while the boy in purple caught and rock and a disc that was thrown at his head. He flipped off the plank landing on his feet and tossing the objects atop his defeated foe.
And finally there were just regular old fights
Steven is shown flipping his opponent over his head sending them flying.
Kung Jin delivers a punch to someone's gut
Cassie takes to the air seen jumping in the air throwing a spin kick to the face
The Brunette boy Punching another competitor across the face some blood flying from their nose
And the Dragon winged girl standing over her defeated opponent tears rolling down their eyes
It took all day for them to go through this and now it was down to the 8 fighters. Steven, Cassie, Kung Jin and 6 other individuals yet to be identified.
"I am impressed that we were able to get through the preliminaries so fast, I thought it would take 2 days, but I guess that speaks to the skill and strength you all possess." Connie explains with a smile
"So the others were sent home after losing?" Steven asks
"Correct, my attendants saw to that." Connie explains
"Shame we couldn't have an audience. I work best when I have people admiring me and cheering my name. At Least I got you two cheering me on." Cassie says with a chuckle
"You make it sound like that's all we'll be doing." Jin says with a raised eyebrow
"I know you'll be fighting, but we both no I got the most skill outta everyone here." Cassie says smiling
"You know you got a really big mouth?" The Brunette said annoyed
"Oh does that bother you?" Cassie says tauntingly
"Yeah seeing some rich girl who bought her skills talking like she's the queen of fighting." He says annoyed
"I worked for skills, just like everyone else. You can't buy that." Cassie says seriously
"All I see is a lot of flash and no substance." He replies locking eyes with Cassie
"Why don't you step up and I'll show you more substance that you can even handle?" Cassie says staring back
"Enough! You will get your chance to fight, but only when I say so. Anything outside my call will lead to a disqualification!" Connie orders as the two step back
"Well since it's only the Eight of you here now and you are in the finals. I feel like it would be good to introduce yourselves." Connie explains
"This is pointless, I have no need to learn the names of lessers." The purple boy said
"Who are you calling lesser?!" The dragon winged girl says offended
"I'm not doing this for your benefit, it's for my own!" Connie says annoyed
"Heh, so simple minded." The yellow girl said
"Anyway, let's hear some names and a little bit about yourselves. Your Realm, Training, anything really." Connie says
After that, for a moment, no one spoke, merely leering at one another as if daring for someone to speak. Cassie was waiting for someone to spill their secrets first before going herself, a smart choice in spite of her bombastic personality. Steven was more so nervous about saying anything, and cautious about the exchange as a whole, subconsciously deciding to keep to himself until someone else broke the ice. Of the trio, that just left-
"My name is Kung Jin. I'm from Earthrealm and a Practitioner of the Shaolin." Kung Jin wanting to get the ball rolling hating the silence
"You wouldn't happen to be of the Kung family of Martial artists. As in the descendants of the Great Kung Lao?" The girl in Yellow asked
"That I am and proud of it." Kung Jin says arms crossed
"Interesting." Connie says truly intrigued
"Thank god, the ice is broken. Nice to meet you all Cassandra Cage, call me Cassie. And yes that is Cage as Johnny Cage, thank you for asking. And Sonya Blade's my mom so that makes me pretty awesome." Cassie says with a smirk
"Cage huh? I thought you smelled like a hack, guess it's in your blood." the brunette boy says
"Tread lightly asshole." Cassie says with narrowed eyes
"Anyway," Steven said putting an arm in front of Cassie before she potentially started something and got herself disqualified, "my name is Steven, Steven Universe. I'm from Earthrealm and trained at a Shaolin Temple with my family."
"What discipline?" The girl in yellow asked.
"Some of everything, I guess," Steven shrugged, "never had a name for what I as being taught other than just 'Martial Arts.'"
"Well that's specific." Someone said sarcastically, making Steven roll his eyes.
"But good enough for right now." Connie said, "Next."
"I'm Kobra, from Earthrealm and a member of the black dragon!" The brunette said determined
"Black Dragon as in the criminal organization?" Kung Jin asks eyebrow raised
"Aren't you like 14? I didn't know they took in recruits so young." Steven asks
"Unless they don't." The purple fighter says
"So what if it's not official? Once I beat all of you, I'll prove that I belong there!" Kobra says defiantly
"... Poser!" Cassie says with a cough
"YOU WANNA SAY THAT TO MY FACE?!" Kobra yells angrily
"Oh sorry, I was clearing my throat. I said Poser." Cassie says grinning as kobra growls starting to walk up to her
"There will be no fighting until I say so. So-BACK OFF!" Connie yells annoyed at Kobra who steps into place
"Well now that all the Earthrealmers are out of the way perhaps we can move to a more developed Realm. I am Rain of Edenia, Royal blood courses through my veins as well as the blood of Argus." the purple clad fighter says proudly
"So says you Rain." The girl in yellow says with a chuckle
"My heritage is true. Like you have anything to be proud of Tanya!" Rain says
"Tanya? I know you, your father is a high ranking Edenian Senator. I've seen him with Queen Kitana." Steven says
"Interesting that you know that," Tanya said with a wry smirk, "but yes, my name is Tanya. I'm from Edenia, like the pompous grape, and am descended from a high and close official of the current reigning Queen Kitana."
"Pompous Grape?!" Rain shouted indignantly.
"No fighting!" Connie cut in, preventing Rain from acting on his offense, much to his grumbling displeasure.
After a moment of silence to make sure nothing happened, she said, "Next."
"I am Nitara of Vaeternus, member of the high blood clan of the Kyūketsuki." The dragon winged girl said proudly
"You're a vampire?" Connie says intrigued
"Did she say vampire? Is she a vampire?" Steven whispers to Kung Jin
"Correct, of the highest echelon of my race. Here to claim this victory to honor my people." Nitara explains
"Aren't you supposed to burn in the sunlight?" Kobra asks
"The lower ranks do, not someone of high blood as me." Nitara says proudly
"You claim you are of Vaeternus, but if I am correct that realm was taken by Shao Khan. So aren't you technically a part of Outworld, and technically under Kotal Khan, Queen Jade, and Princess Emerald?" Tanya says with a smirk
"I AM NOT BELOW THAT MIX BLOODED-!" Nitara says taking a moment to calm herself
"We will not remain under their rule for long." Nitara says regaining her composure
"You really like pushing people's buttons don't ya?" Cassie asks Tanya
"Oh whatever do you mean." Tanya says with sickeningly sweet smile
"Next." Connie said before the conversation could continue.
"Absolute Zero," she said quickly before anyone else could speak, "Earthrealm, and member of the Lin Kuei."
"Indeed I recognize the crest. Any relation to the grandmaster Sub Zero?" Connie asks
"No." Absolute says coldly, Steven looking at her quizzically which Connie noticed
"Very well, I believe that is everyone. Now we may truly start this tournament." Connie says as she gestures with a finger
A tenseness filled the air as everyone looked on as two attendants walked before them. One held a box with a hand sized hole atop of it, the other had a white board with brackets on it. Connie walked down from her throne to the ring below and approached the white board taking a marker to it.
"I assume you've all seen a tournament before right? You know how brackets work?" Connie says as she labels the bottom of the brackets 1 through 8
"You all will pull a ball from the box. Each has a number 1 through 8, what you pull will decide what your position in the tournament is and who you will be fighting." Connie says fighting them
"That's a little basic?" Kobra says
"What do you expect Raiden to descend from the heavens and declare the tournament has begun while giving you a magic mark to decide who you fight?" Rain asks tauntingly
"W-Well… not exactly. But still….." Kobra say embarrassed
"This is how it works. So who goes first?" Connie asks with a smirk
"That would be me. I usually like going first, it's a good luck thing for me." Cassie says
She walks up to the attendant holding the box and reaches inside ruffling around for a bit before pulling out a ball.
"Number 1 my lucky number!" Cassie says holding up the ball with a smirk
"Congrats Ms. Cage. Your first." Connie says writing her name under the 1
"I'll try not to intimidate everyone with my performance." Cassie chuckles before joining back up with her friends.
Nitara was up next walking up and pulling out a ball, hers was 6 and her name was written on the board. Next was Jin who pulled out 7, his name written on the last match on the bracket. Next was Kobra, though as he walked up Connie had a look on her face observing him. She then put her hands behind her back as green energy surrounded her hand, and then as Kobra reached inside Connie flicked her finger. Inside the balls jumbled a bit before a specific one got into his hands.
"Number 2, our first match is Cassie Cage vs Kobra." Connie says as she writes his name
"Well Lucky me, I get to shut that mouth of yours up." Kobra says grinning
"Nothing can stop a Cage from yapping. Just like nothing can stop us from kick butt hardcore." Cassie says with a smirk
"She isn't wrong on either of those points." Steven says
Tanya was next to pull out a ball, Connie again hiding her hands behind her back as using her magic. Tanya pulled out a ball with the number 8 on it.
"The Final match Kung Jin vs Tanya." Connie says as she writes it down
"I hope you live up to your name." Tanya says with small smile
"You'll see soon enough." Kun Jin said, determined.
"Next." Connie said.
Said man went up to the balls briskly and reached in, Connie once again using her magic to manipulate the outcome and causing a specific ball to land in his hand.
"Five," Connie said as she put Rain's name next to Nitara's on the board. "Who else? Step on up."
As if in response Xue stepped up to the box and took out one of the two remaining balls. Connie didn't even need to use her magic to manipulate this outcome.
"Four," she said, "that just leaves Steven with ball three." She put their names next to one another, completing the brackets.
"Okay then everyone here are the brackets." Connie says showing the completed tournament list
CASSIE CAGE VS KOBRA
ABSOLUTE ZERO VS RAIN
STEVEN UNIVERSE VS NITARA
KUNG JIN VS TANYA
"You all know how tournaments work. Defeat your opponent, you move up the bracket. Defeat all your opponents and you will make it to the final challenge where you can win the championship." Connie explains to them all
"All official fights must be done with my supervision if I am not there, it does not count. I will serve as the referee for these fights. You will follow my words to the letter when the fight gets going. And I will determine the winner of each fight, these battles will be to knockout or if one surrenders. Understood?" Connie explains as all of the Kombatants nod.
"Very well. I hope you're all ready cause now, IT HAS BEGUN." Connie says with a sinister smile.
All the remaining Kombatants stood outside the ring as both Cassie and Kobra kneeled at two opposite corners. Connie sat on her throne overlooking the two fighters as a tenseness filled the air.
"Cassie Cage!" Connie says boldly
Cassie immediately stood up letting out a Kiai as she threw a punch in the air. She threw two punches in the air before throwing a high kick, keeping her leg up she threw two snap kicks before slamming her foot down. She thrust her palms forward and spun backwards jumping in the air with a small spin and kick before landing on her feet and bowing.
"Kobra!" Connie says boldly
Kobra immediately let out a battle cry punching the ground and doing a sweep kick before flipping to his feet. He threw a set of fierce punches before doing an axe kick, once his heel met the ground he shot his elbow forward and then threw an uppercut. He then flipped back and stomped both feet on the ground before throwing two punches and taking a firm stance exhaling deeply.
"I know Cassie is good, but I can't help but worry." Steven says
"We knew what we were getting into when we came here. Were gonna get hurt you included, if we win our fights we may fight each other. You gotta be prepared for that or this will be a short tournament." Kung Jin explains as Steven sighs
Connie looked over the two fighters starring each other down from their corners of the ring both in their stances and ready to go.
"FIGHT!" Connie yells as one of the attendants rings the gong
The two take a breath and move towards the center of the ring and circled. The two locked eyes and moved around stances shifting slightly as they did. This went on for a few seconds before Kobra suddenly stood up and bowed to Cassie. This caught Cassie by surprise but instinctively she returned the bow. An evil grin grew on Kobra's face as he quickly shot his foot up, kicking up dust from the ring. The dust got in Cassie's eyes making the girl yelps as she shot up covering her eyes. Kobra then grabbed her by the shoulder and then rammed a knee into her gut making her gag.
"HEY THAT'S CHEATING!" Steven yelled
"I don't remember Lady Maheswaran saying anything about such things being illegal." Rain says
"And she seems to be fine with it seeing as she isn't objecting." Tanya says looking the Connie who was watching calmly
Kobra threw two more knees to Cassie's body before pushing her back and hitting her with a roundhouse. Cassie was knocked off her feet falling to the ground but quickly rolling away and back to her feet.
"Let me show ya how it's done in the street." Kobra says with a green
"Alright then, that's how we're playing it?" Cassie says grinning wiping her cheek
Cassie rushed Kobra throwing two punches which were blocked, but Cassie quickly threw a low kick to his leg. Kobra grunts, taking a chop to the shoulder blade and an elbow to the chest forcing him back. Cassie chases jumping and throwing kicks only for Kobra to sidestep letting Cassie soar past him. Cassie lands on her feet and swings a kick to his head, only for him to lean back and dodge, in retaliation he throws a set of punches with Cassie bats away with parries. He throws another punch which Cassie catches in her hand only for Kobra to snap a kick to her chin. As her head flew back Cassie toos two shots to the body and a kick to the chin sending her head back with a spray of sweat. Kobra swings an overhead but Cassie is able to sway past it, he throws a series of punches which Cassie continues to dodge masterfully. Cassie then shoots a kick to Kobra's gut making him stumble back with a gag as Cassie ste[s back taking a stance with a smirk. Kobra growls clutching his fist as smoke emits from it he suddenly shoots forward fist out and also on fire. Cassie yelps seeing the burning fist coming at her, dodging it at the last minute by leaning backwards letting the punch soar over her, Cassie feeling the heat. Cassie then grits her teeth as from her position she raises her foot and flips backward. With a WAKRACK her foot met his chin as she did a flip kick sending Kobra stumbling back.
Just then all of the other Kombatants, as the flip kick connected to Kobra's jaw, suddenly saw the two fighters bodies blink out and reveal their skeletons. The hit proceeding as if in slow motion as Kobra's jaw snapped shut, jostled his teeth, and then blinked back to outward flesh as Kobra stumbled back from the hit.
"The heck was that?" Steven said shocked.
"Depends, was 'that' their bodies turning into skeletons for a split second, going in slow motion, and then returning to their regular forms as if nothing happened?" Tanya asked.
"Good, I'm not going insane then." Jin sighed in relief.
"All of us would be if that were the case, 'cause I saw it too." Nitara said as all the others nodded in agreement.
"Any chance Connie might tell us what that was after the match?" Steven asked.
"Probably." Tanya said in a tone that ended any further conversation.
Meanwhile, Kobra had recovered from the hit and was glaring at Cassie, who was hopping on her feet with a smug smile. Kobra growls before stomping his foot and taking his stance. He then launches forward raising his foot over his head, his heel engulfed in flames. Cassie yelps seeing the kick coming raising her guard the kick slamming down on her forearms, Cassie wincing from the heat. Kobra then jumps up using his free leg to kick Cassie in the face making her roll away. She gets to her knee but is swarmed by Kobra throwing a flurry of blows she narrowly is able to parry, grabbing a punch standing up trying to force him back. Kobra however grabs her hand by the wrist and twists it a small crack heard as Cassie grunts. Still holding her wrist Kobra then throws a knee to Cassie's gut, the LA girl gagged as the air is knocked out of her. Kobra wasn't done still holding her wrist and grabbing hold of her face, he bends Cassie back and throws a knee to her back. Within her spine shuddered as small cracks formed from the hit, Cassie let out a scream as she felt the fracture only to get a kick to the chin sending her rolling back.
Cassie gets to her feet again blocking a knee to the face from Kobra. Cassie was forced back blocking a series of blows from him. She then grabs a punch from him and throws her own punch which he manages to catch. The two fight for dominance each trying to push the other back growling as they did. In the middle of this Kobra shot a headbutt at Cassie bonking her forehead, Cassie's head flew back with a yelp this opening her up to a low kick to the shin. This caused Cassie to fall forward where Kobra grabbed hold of her head and forced it down to his knee. A wild KRACK filled the air as Kobra's knee met Cassie's nose, time slowing to show the bone's in her nose breaking as she took the hit. Cassie screams out in pain as her head flies back her hands covering her nose as blood shot out of her nostrils. As the star recoiled Kobra held his arm back, smoke rising from his fingertips as a fireball formed in his hands and he chucks it at Cassie. Cassie fights through the pain enough to raise her guard blocking the hit with her hands, recoiling as the fire burns her, only for a THWACK to fill the air as a kick connected with Cassie's collar.
"CASSIE!" Steven yells worried as his friend slams to the ground on her side.
"Had enough princess?" Kobra asks cockily as Cassie forces herself up blood still spilling from her nose.
"Gng-not in your life." Cassie groans managing to stand.
"You cheeky little-!" Kobra growls.
"That was a cute little fireball, now why don't I show you a real one." Cassie says blowing some blood from her nose onto the ground before wiping away the rest.
This response results in Kobra leaping at Cassie for a jump kick, but as he did Cassie held her hand behind her back, focusing as hard as she could. As she did an unstable green ball of energy fizzled in her hand, with a "YAH!" Cassie threw out the ball. The ball exploded as soon as she threw it scattering into multiple small green embers. The spray hit Kobra making him yowl as the small embers burned his skin and obscured his vision. Trying to shake off the burns Kobra canceled his kick and landed on his feet as he wiped away at his face. He landed right before Cassie who dropped to her knees and brought her hands together. With a fleshy CRUNCH Cassie brought both fists up to Kobra's crotch, he let out a blood curdling scream as he doubled over covering himself. Immediately all the males wince a bit as they watch the hit and reaction.
"That does not get any easier to see." Steven winces.
"HA!" Connie laughs outwardly.
"If it works." Tanya says simply.
"It's literally the easiest part to hit." Nitara says.
As Kobra tries not to throw up, Cassie gets back to her feet and throws a knee to Kobra's chin standing him up. Using the same leg she snapped 3 quick kicks to his face before sending one to his chest forcing him back. Still reeling from the pain and trying to gather himself Cassie stood a few feet away, leg still raised, she took a deep breath and focused once again. Before Kobra could react, a green energy surrounded Cassie and she shot out like a bullet, her leg extended as a green shadow of herself was left behind.
WA-CRACK!
The kick met Kobra's chest time slowed as his ribcage shook and cracked from the force of the blow, Kobra's heart and lungs seen jostling within the body. Kobra coughs out some blood with a scream as he's sent crashing onto his back.
"She's still having trouble summoning up that green energy." Kung Jin says.
"I think she's getting better." Steven says impressed.
Kobra gets up clutching his chest and breathing hard some blood still on his lips as stood up and Cassie comes at him. Kobra tries throwing a punch at Cassie only for her to catch his punch and wrap her leg around his arm. Cassie snaps kicks to his face sending it left and right before slamming it into his nose and letting go. Kobra stumbled back as Cassie readied herself remembering her father's films as she jumped in the air and spun extending both her legs as with a THWACK she landed a jumping spin kick to Kobra's face. His head flying to the side with a spray of spit, sweat, and a little blood as his eyes bounced in his skull. He stumbled back completely out of it as Cassie stood before him taking a moment to breath, from her throne Connie looked down and smirked. A deep menacing disembodied voice shouting.
FINISH HIM!
Cassie smirked as she heard the words, taking a few steps back as she stretched herself out, before taking a runner's starting position and sprinting right at her opponent. Sliding on her knees and slamming both fists up right into Kobra's crotch!
"DING!" Cassie yells before rearing her fist back and throwing a straight to his groin
"DONG!" Cassie yells after throwing the next punch
"Ah!" The man screamed until a straight punch slammed into his tender area not a moment later, Cassie flips up to her feet while firing a knee between his legs, actually lifting him off the ground an inch.
"WHAM!" Cassie laughs.
Once on her feet landing another brutal punch to the black and blue nethers, making Kobra silently scream in agony.
"BAM!" Cassie says once again.
Removing her fist and standing up, the celebrity kid smirked at the doubled over, crotch holding enemy before her and laid him out with a devastating uppercut that launched him into the air and onto his back!
"Pow." Cassie says smirking, holding her fist up.
Connie smirks as she stands up and gives a small clap for Cassie before speaking.
CASSIE CAGE WINS
BRUTALITY
"WOOOOOOOO! CASSIE!" Steven yells cheering for his friends.
"Thank you, thank you. You are a wonderful audience." Cassie says taking a bow.
"Can't you take your victory with silent dignity?" Kung Jin asked annoyed.
"Sorry that ain't-my…" Cassie says, starting to stumble.
"Cassie?" Kung Jin asks concernedly just as she fell to her side.
"CASSIE!" Steven and Jin yell getting on the arena to their friend.
"I-I-uh-oh boy." Cassie says pained holding her back.
"You alright?" Steven asked.
"How many of us do yuo see?" Jin said.
"I'm in pain, not having a concussion." Cassie retorted.
"Good, she's mostly fine." Jin sighed in relief.
"Probably in need of a medic though." Steven commented.
"That won't be necessary." Connie said as she walked toward them.
"What," Steven asked shocked, "why?"
"Observe." Connie said as she stuck out a hand, and green magic coated her palms before billowing to Cassie, who's blood and strain surely vanished as the mystic power washed over her.
"Woah, that feels great!" She cried as she leaned back on her hands.
"Healing magic," Connie said as Steven and Jin opened their mouths to ask, "she'll be fine with a day or two's rest. At any rate she won't have to fight tomorrow."
"Well Maheswaran, you're pretty handy." Cassie says stretching her arm.
"Lady Maheswaran if you please." Connie says.
"Thank you so much!" Steven says taking her hand.
"Y-your welcome." Connie says.
"You never said you were a practitioner of magic." Rain says outside the ring.
"It's not important." Connie says.
"I prefer to know all I can about the people I'm around." Rain says.
"If you make it far enough you'll learn everything you need to." Connie says.
"Still healing magic is quite impressive Lady Maheswaran. I heard it takes quite a bit of power yet you barely look winded. Truly you must be skilled or have a lot of power in stock." Tanya says with a keen eye getting a look from Connie.
"What about the loser? You gonna heal him?" Nitara asks
"Later. My attendants will take him to a resting area where I'll heal him once I'm done here and send him home." Connie explains.
"He's not gonna stay and watch the rest of the matches?" Steven asks.
"I think it would just hurt his pride seeing everyone else do better than him." Connie explains as two attendants with a stretcher take him off the fighting arena.
"Either way congratulations Cassandra, you've advanced to the next round. Now that the day is still young, why don't we start the next fight?" Connie asks with a smirk.
Cassie Cage (14)- The daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. Ever since she had the ability to kick Cassie wanted to be like her parents real life action heroes. A young prodigy in Martial Arts and starting to develop similar skills to her father she shows great promise. Unfortunately she also has her fathers ego and thinks herself the main character of the world. While vain, she is never cruel and has a soft spot for her two friends Kung Jin and Steven.
Shadow Kick: Her fathers iconic move flying across the ground with a standing kick knocking her opponent back
Green Force Scatter: Unable to form a ball her energy will instead scatter about like thrown seeds damaging the opponent
Dirty Pass: She can't do a split so she will instead slide on her knee and slam both fist into her opponents groin.
Flipkick: Using her green energy She performs a flip kick launching them in the air
Military Counter: Channeling her mother she takes a stance and if attacked will knock the opponent down and twist their leg
SFX Kick: Cassie sends out a green shadow copy performing the shadow kick, but it goes through them tricking them
Brutality 1- DING-DONG! WHAM-BAM! POW!: Cassie stretches herself out before running forward and doing her Dirty Pass, DING. She then immediately follows up with a straight to the crotch, DONG. She flips back to her feet ramming her knee between their legs, WHAM. She throws another punch to the crotch, BAM. As the opponent is doubled over in pain she hits them with an uppercut knocking them into the air and on their backs, POW!
Brutality 2- #BRUTALITY: Channeling her father Cassie hits her opponent with an uppercut sending them into the air. As they're suspended Cassie pulls out her phone readying the camera. She then catches her opponent by the neck and takes a selfie with their unconscious body. We are then shown her social media and the various reactions from characters.
Friendship: Cassie pulls out her phone grabbing her opponent by the arm and pulling them in for a photo. Multiple photos are shown of her and her opponent doing various fun stuff across the Island. When the final photo is shown on it is written "TO MY BEST FRIEND, LOVE CASSIE"

Kobra (15)- From the Harsh Streets of Empire City, Kobra knows brutality. Orphaned with no one to guide him he was brought into the Black dragon and taught the ways of Kombat to one day become a member. Taking their words to heart he is brutal and unrelenting, wanting nothing more than to be the best. This tournament gave him the chance to prove that he is worthy of the Black Dragon.
Windmill Kick: Kobra slides forward a bit and performs a devastating arching Axe Kick which causes the opponent to bounce off the ground
Burning Fist: Kobra dashes forward with his fist on fire extended forward, which knocks his opponents down.
Tele-Punch: Kobra disappears, leaving a trail of smoke behind, then reappears behind his opponent and punches them down.
Chi-Blast: Kobra gathers chi and releases a ball of flame forward from the palms of his hands.
Brutality 1- Beatdown: He knees his opponent twice between both knees, and high kicks them in a makeshift sending them into the air before it knocks them onto their backs unconscious.
Brutality 2- Burning Combo: He roars setting his fist ablaze and lays into his opponents face with a flurry of blows. He then slams an uppercut into their gut followed by one to the chin than with an explosion he launches them into the air.
Friendship: Kobra throws down some cardboard and then proceeds to breakdance impressing the opponent as they clap and he does a final pose.

Be introduced to the fighters and the match's up ahead. As well as the first match of the whole thing. Me and my co author did our best to capture the Mortal Kombat feel but tone it down a bit.
