Chapter 2

Sasuke pulled the drape to the side and immediately blue eyes locked with black. The blonde girl was sitting on the examination table and gives him the once over. Her eyes went back to his – and is that a smirk on her lips?

"Aren't you a little too young to be a doctor?"

Sasuke raised an eyebrow and also gave her the once-over.

"You look the same age as me."

"Exactly. Shouldn't you be getting your bachelor's? Rich daddy got you into med school early?"

Sasuke paused at the way she speaks to him. He was used to people fawning over him, especially women. Her directness and words threw him off.

"What do you know, moron? You took this job because you needed money for some pot with your hippie friends?"

To his surprise, the girl threw her head back and laughed – a genuine, deep laugh. Sasuke couldn't help but notice how her breasts moved with the vibrations of her laughter.

"Exactly!" She locks eyes with him again. "Look at how perceptive that stick up your ass makes you. Maybe if you shove it in just a little bit deeper, you'd able to realize what a massive asshole you are."

Sasuke went to respond - then the medical director walked in.

"Okay, let's get started here," Dr. Tsunade Senju said. "Sorry for the wait. Uchiha-san, I'll be helping with this one, the TA had to go home." Tsunade looked up from the tablet and quirked an eyebrow at the palpable tension and animosity between the two. "Is there a problem?"

"No," Sasuke said and stepped away, waiting for Tsunade to set up the scenario on her tablet and give him the green light to start.

"Okay, Uchiha-san, take it away."

Sasuke was the epitome of aloof when he went through the drill of introducing himself and examining. He was looking forward to getting home after this and maybe going to bed early. The day had been long, and this moron had almost pissed him off.

"I'm Dr. Sasuke Uchiha. What are you here for today?"

The girl quirked an eyebrow at him. "What, doc – you didn't read my chart?"

At Tsunade's stern glare, she sighs and changes her response. With a more innocent voice now she says, "You know, I've been feeling… weird during the last few days… like a week."

"How so?" Sasuke really wanted to get this over with.

"Well, I've been feeling tired… and I'm having body aches. I just generally feel like crap."

"Do you have any significant medical history?"

"No."

"Any medications?"

"Just vitamins."

"Any cough or shortness of breath?" The girl shook her head. "Okay, I'll listen to your lungs." Sasuke took out the stethoscope from his pocket. The girl pushed her blond hair back to expose her torso and straightened her back, making her breasts stand out more. Sasuke almost felt his breath hitch. He told her to take a deep breath and listened to her lungs. From this close up, she smelled very good and Sasuke felt an unusual warmth radiating from her. "Your lungs sound clear. Now breathe normal, I'll listen to your heart… Good. Any pain in your abdomen?"

"No."

Sasuke eyed her for a second, trying to focus and stay on track with his assignment. He was still close and – is that mischievousness in her blue eyes?

"Have you recently gained any weight?"

The girl smirked more, as if proud of him. "Um, yes. A little bit. I ate a little much during the holidays."

"I'll examine your thyroid. Lean your head slightly back."

"Like how?" She said innocently and Sasuke wondered if this is her character or if she is playing with him for real.

"Like this," Sasuke reached a hand at the back of her neck and his other hand held loosely around her jaw. He tilted her head back. Then his right hand went down to the base of her throat and he pressed there, examining her thyroid. Her throat was slender and beautifully craned back and fit in his hand perfectly. His hand lingered and Sasuke looked up to her only to find her blue eyes lidded and darkened, her lips parted. Their eyes lingered – then the sound of Tsunade writing something down made Sasuke snap out of it and take a steady step back. "Your thyroid feels normal. When was your last menstrual cycle?"

"Um… let's see," she touches her pointer fingers together and looked up as if trying to remember. At least now Sasuke knew this is a part of her character. "You know, I think I haven't had it in a while."

"Do you use any protection during sexual intercourse?"

"I… didn't the last few times." Sasuke's lips pressed into a thin line. How much easier could they make it? And they chose an idiot to play an idiot too.

"How would you proceed after this, Uchiha-san?" Tsunade asked, wanting to evaluate Sasuke's reasoning now that the scenario was obviously coming to an end.

"I would order blood tests. Definitely thyroid tests although her thyroid feels normal just to scratch off the possibility of hypothyroidism because of the weight gain and fatigue. But what I'm looking for is a blood pregnancy test, then refer her to an OB/GYN if it is positive. She also obviously would need education on proper sexual protection and recognizing signs of pregnancy."

"Very well. Before you do our tests, how else can you examine for pregnancy?"

Sasuke looked back at the girl. "Have your breasts been feeling more tender than usual?"

Sasuke can swear that the slight smirk on her lips had been there since he walked in.

"Yes, they feel just like before my period." At this, she straightened her back again, and Sasuke again got an eyeful.

"Can I have you lay back on your back for a minute," Sasuke moved to her side. "I can palpate her uterus – pregnancy can be recognized in the beginning by hardening of the uterus."

"Very well!" Tsunade admits, impressed. "Show me how you'd do that."

Sasuke put his hands one over the other and pressed gently around the area of the girl's lower belly, right above her pubic bone. The cloth of her jeans felt rough against his fingertips, and her bare knees were showing from where her jeans were ripped. Sasuke wondered if her tan is real and how exactly it looked under her clothes.

There was a small whimper and Sasuke looked up to see the girl with her head to the side, hand over her mouth, eyebrows furrowed and… a small flush on her cheeks? Somehow, Sasuke felt satisfaction course through him, more so than having the correct diagnosis gave him.

"Excellent deduction, Uchiha-san. The blood tests come back – her thyroid labs show that her TSH, T4 and T3 are all within normal limits. Her blood pregnancy test comes back positive. You already said you would proceed by referring her to a specialist. Do you have any questions?"

"No, I don't."

"Very well. Naruto," Tsunade addressed the girl who was now sitting up again, her face back to normal. "Is there anything you want to add before we wrap this up?"

"Yeah," the girl, apparently named Naruto – a moronic name befitting a moron – slid off the exam table and stretched. "Good job on guessing the diagnosis. But your bedside manner is sooo dryyy. Good thing they have you practicing with us first, you need serious help in that department. Siri has better social skills than you."

"What would a moron like you know about bedside manner?" Sasuke heard himself retort and forced himself to straighten that furrow between his eyebrows.

"A thing or two. Enough to know that all of your classmates had better social skills than you. If you talk to people like that for real, you probably never get laid. Good thing you have your looks going for you, otherwise you'd die alone. You know, it won't hurt to pull that stick out of your butt juuuust a little bit and maybe try to socialize. I think you can learn a lot from other. That classmate of yours with the white hair and the sharp tooth? Suigetsu? He was awesome, he guessed the diagnosis and had a great bedside manner. I'm just saying you're not the only smart one around here, although you sure act like you are." She took a sip of water and Sasuke's eyes were glued to how her throat moved to swallow. Then their eyes locked again.

Tsunade looked from one to the other and quirked an eyebrow. She had obviously missed something judging by the mutual animosity and tension in the air.

"Ookay," Tsunade said and turned off the tablet, "I don't know what that was about but that was good advice – maybe consider it, Uchiha-san. There is a lot to learn from your classmates. They all have well-deserved spots in our school. However, I would have to ask you both to refrain from using colorful language, at least when we're in school. I personally don't care, but I can't deal with complaints right now." Tsunade walked out and spoke in a louder voice, "Gather your things everyone and let's go home. Good work today. Get some rest and we'll meet tomorrow, same place and the same time, but this time we are beginning to grade, and the difficulty will gradually go up. Have a good night."

Sasuke hears rustling behind him and turned to see Naruto picking up a backpack and throwing it over her shoulder, walking past him.

"Well, that was fun. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go spend all my money on pot with my hippie friends."

"Sounds appropriate." Sasuke stared at her hard, having given up trying to figure out why this random girl was affecting him so much. Sasuke would be satisfied as long as she came out to be a dredge of society somehow by the end of the conversation.

The blonde snickered. "Sure. Have a good night, Sasuke. Maybe if you weren't such an arrogant bastard, you wouldn't be spending it alone."

Sasuke watched her walk away and join the rest of the actors, all of them obviously knowing each other. The man with the sleeked back hair who had been hitting on Naruto earlier threw an arm around her shoulder and they all went out, joking with each other. Sasuke found himself annoyed for no obvious reason. He didn't want to think right now why and how that girl had managed to infuriate him so much, and definitely did not want to touch the other emotions she had provoked in him right now.

They were all going to a bar? Sasuke almost shoved the stethoscope in his expensive backpack. When was the last time he had gone out? The few times he had gone out, it was with Itachi, mostly because he had made him. People approached Sasuke and offered him their company – in more ways than one. He had always had the opportunity, just found no interest in socializing beyond what was needed.

Sasuke walked out and started his car. The ride home was around twenty minutes, but it was rush hour and Sasuke found himself progressing slowly. The thought of Naruto going to a bar with all those guys crept its way into his mind. Sasuke's jaw tightened. He hoped Naruto was smarter than the character she had played today. Then he pushed that thought away because he didn't care.

He needed to go home and take a shower. He felt off-balance somehow and that wasn't typical. It was a weird day for the Uchiha.

Reviews for me are like ramen for Naruto. :)

Yes, there are actors playing patient and scenarios just like that in medical school. Sometimes the PA students volunteer to play patients for the medical students too. It's a way to break in people with little or no experience into interacting with patients and noticing details on the go before they are exposed to actual patients.
