Chapter 2. Trying to fix things...
Jack was hiding in the North Pole from North and Tooth, feeling overwhelmed with the whole situation. He was in an old worn down bedroom, laying down on the bed. 'How? Where? Why? What?' These questions kept flowing in Jacks mind. He held his staff close to him for comfort. This was all so new to him, and there wasn't really anyone to tell him quite what was going on.
Jack was so confused, he needed sleep. 'Maybe this is all just a bad dream, and I'll wake up and be back in my own time.' Jack thought. He hoped he was right.
Jack was finally asleep after days. This was just to much to wrap his mind around.
Jack was sound asleep, when the door to the room silently creaked open. And an elderly woman stepped inside.
"I need those teeth of his... he can't get away from me that easily. I don't remember the last time my food was decently chewed."
She snuck over with the pair of pliers in her hand. "Now where is that mouth?" Tooth put on her glasses. "Oh, there he is..."
Jack groaned as she wiggled the pliers around in his mouth, trying to find his front teeth. "Almost got 'em..." She said.
Jack blinked his eyes open groggily. Before he realized what was going on. He shoved Tooth and the pliers away with a surprised yelp.
"W-what the hell are you doing in here with-with those?!" Jack asked. His heart beating rapidly. Tooth quickly shoved the pliers away behind her dress. And replaced them with a plate of cookies.
Tooth: "Would you like a cookie? I never had got the chance to offer them to you, so here." She shoved them close to Jacks face, but Jack pushed them away with disgust.
Jack: "I know that's not the real reason why you came in here for, you had those ...those, things! In your hand, don't deny it, I can still taste the mettle!"
Tooth: "Me? With those? No.." She said innocently.
There was a clank of something falling on the wood floor. Tooth and Jack looked down in alarm at the pare of pliers. Tooth quickly picked them up and sprang at Jack!
"I need your teeth!" Tooth said as she came at him again with the pliers.
"You stay away! I know you have lice!" Jack said as he jumped behind the bed.
"I don't care!" Tooth sprang for him! This was Jacks time to leave. So he rushed for the window and jumped outside in the winds arms, and flew away. Hearing Tooths cries for him to come back. But Jack didn't, he just wanted to get the heck out of there!
After awhile of flying and a bit of calming down, Jack was able to think clearly again. He was trying to think of a way to help Tooth and North, even bring back Bunny and Sandy somehow. Maybe through belief? That's what North said. …it was all Pitches fault. He's the one who made them loose their belief. Maybe Pitch had answers?
Jack made up his mind, and flew to Pitch's lair, in hopes that he could get some answers out of him. It was dark once he entered through the hole in the ground. It was still night time, but the lair was darker. Though there was strands of light in some places.
"Pitch?" Jack called in an even tone. He heard shuffling in the shadows, and a quick groan. Jack heard tapping of something on the rock. Jack was curious to see who was coming his way. A figure emerged out of the shadows and stopped just before he hit the strand of light. The figure was slumped over gripping a cane. A 4 feet tall man with raggedy black hair. Wearing black clothes and his face looked like an old wrinkled gray prune with yellow eyes.
Jack was stunned into shock. "Pitch?"
"What was that?" The man asked, his voice was ragged and shaky, a higher pitched tone.
"I said, are you Pitch?!" Jack asked louder.
"Who are you boy?"
Jack sighed in frustration. "I'm the boogie man!" Jack said.
"No I am." Pitch said.
"Thank you for answering my question." Jack said. "I'm Jack Frost."
"Jack... Jack..Frost? I think I've heard of you before from somewhere...OH yea, you're that stupid boy who makes frost and snow aren't you?" Pitch said.
"I'm your enemy." Jack said dangerously. "And why are you so old? You're like, older then North."
"NO I'M NOT! I'm young and powerful! Because I've got believers!" Pitch wailed out. Jack was confused.
"Wait a second. You guys stay young when you have believers?" Jack asked.
"Something like that, yeah." Pitch said.
Jacks eye started to twitch. "So, when was the last time you scared someone?"
Pitch looked up in thought and started to quietly count. "One two...five four. About 600 years ago, no wait that's not right. Um, 600... 800, no. 30, 300... about 4000 years ago! NO! 400 years ago!"
Jack face palmed. "This guy's got amnesia..." Jack said quietly.
"What was that boy?" Pitch asked.
"I WAS JUST saying how smart you are! For, uh, remembering all those years back so well!"
"Don't flatter me... uh.. what's your name again?" Pitch asked.
"Jack Frost."
"Oh yea you...you...you. Who are you?" Pitch asked. Jack almost felt embarrassed.
"I'M THE BOOGIE MAN!" Jack shouted, raising his arms.
"No I am." Pitch said. Jack dropped his arms.
"Is this seriously the only thing this guy remembers?" Jack whispered to himself. "How long have you been down here for?"
"I don't know, probably when I had so much believers I couldn't crawl out of that hole." Pitch said. Jack almost felt sorry for the poor guy. Jack didn't see a nightmare in sight. And Pitch looked like he got smashed with a tree over and over again.
"Pitch, you don't have believers." Jack said.
Pitch: "YES I DO!"
Jack: "But do you feel strong?"
"OF COURSE I DO! I'm stronger than a moose and I can walk up a full three sets of stairs!" Pitch said in triumph. Jacks eye couldn't seem to stop twitching. He decided to just get to the point.
"I've been wondering, why things are like they are out there, the people, the village or town, I've heard them say. Why have things changed? I had just come foreword in time 500 years, I need to know what's going on." Jack said. Pitch looked up in thought.
"What is it like up there? It's been so long since I've visited the outside world." Pitch asked.
Jack: "Ugh.. Well do you know what happened to me? How did I disappear? And did I ever get back?" Jack asked, ignoring Pitches question, he wouldn't be able to remember anyway if Jack told him what he's seen.
Pitch: "Oh I remember you came back. A whole 40 years later, after that I threw you into an ice crevice. I'm pretty sure I killed you...so why are you right here?"
"I-just-told-you!" Jack said in frustration. "I'VE COME FORWARD IN TIME!"
Pitch: "Oh. …what happened again?"
Jack: "UGH..." He whined. "Never mind."
"I thought I saw you 80 years ago flying around, they call you 'Old man winter'." Pitch said, even after he just said he thought that Jack was dead. "Wait wait, hold on." Pitch put on a pair of broken glasses. "Yep, that's you alright."
Jacks head snapped up. "What?! Old-man! ...winter?...me? O-old?..." Jack gulped.
Pitch: "Yep, if I remember right, you had a long bushy beard and frost covered your whole body, head to toe."
Jack turned around to think, rubbing his temple in stress. 'Do I truly turn out to look like these prunes!' Jack thought. He sighed in frustration, he seemed to do that a lot lately. "Do you know how I can get back to my own time?" He asked Pitch.
Pitch: "Whose time?"
Jack: "Ugh.. never mind, you don't have a good enough memory to know anyway." With that, Jack flew through the tunnels and to the entrance, but before he flew out, he heard Pitch talking to himself, or an imaginary friend.
"OH Oh! I know! The Bermuda triangle, yes. Lots of people have gone missing there many times I hear!" Pitch laughed out.
"Bermuda triangle?" Jack wondered. And flew away.
