Oh boy ready for chapter two?
"Robots?" Joy asked as she crossed her arms, looking at the robots that Rick had built of the grandkids.
"It'll work for a time," he shrugged. "At least give us enough time to get Beth off our ass while we go get the little shits."
"I guess," Joy said as she looked the robots over. "But what if she-"
"Let's call dinner the Beta Test," he told her as he looked at her and then back at the robot Summer, flipping a switch on her neck.
"I am Summer," the robot Summer said in an exact copy of Summer's voice.
"Summer, state your deal." Rick ordered as Joy stood next to him, walking around around the robots with a critical eye.
"My deal is that I am, like, totally fine."
"Morty?"
"Aw, geez, I'm so down with my parents' divorce, dawg. Like, don't even trip, like, in a healthy way." the robot Morty said and Rick looked at Joy who shrugged.
"I mean, they seem a bit stiff, but maybe Beth will be drunk?" she said as she looked at the robots again.
"All right," he rubbed his hands together. "It's dinnertime."
Joy shook her head before walking into the house, sitting down next to Rick while the robot kids sat on the other side of the table. Joy brought everyone a plate and Joy thanked her softly.
"Thanks, everybody, for sitting down for a real dinner."
"No problem." they all said in unison and Joy hurriedly took a large bite of the spaghetti that Beth had made for them all.
"Its benefits are totally, like, less about the food than the emotional nourishment." Mechanical Summer stated, earning Rick a look from Joy.
"Uh, okay, weirdo." Beth laughed and Rick gave a nervous laugh.
"Ah ha ha ha, yeah. Dial it back, Summer. By 15% and increase dynamic movement by 3. Am I right?" he grinned at Beth who looked over at Morty.
"How's school, Morty?"
"I like school and stuff, kind of. And I'm getting better grades than when you and Dad were quote mode "staying together for the kids." End quote mode."
"Quote mode?" Joy asked as she looked at Rick who looked like he was starting to sweat.
"Huh, "Quote mode". I like that. You millennials. Are you guys millennials, or are they like 40 now?" Beth asked and Joy shrugged.
"That weird calendar, who knows right?" Joy chuckled.
"All I know is, totally, you look great." Mechanical Summer said.
"Aw, geez, Mom, you look all kind of great and stuff. It's crazy." Mechanical Morty said.
"So happy."
"So happy. Happy family, man. We got this family in the bag." as the robot children spoke Beth began to tear up, Joy elbowing Rick and nodding to Beth.
"Oh, sweetie, d-don't. Listen. Don't-" Rick said as he looked at Beth, looking slightly panicked.
"I don't know why I'm crying. It's not-" Beth shook her head and trailed off slightly.
"Well... try crying 15% less?" Rick suggested, Joy putting her hands over her face.
"Oh my god," she sighed. "Beth, Sweetie-"
"Mom, emotions are human. You're not, like, a computer inside a mechanical doll." Mechanical Summer said quickly, cutting Joy off.
"Yeah. Geez, Mom. Your feelings are not only forgivable, they are the very meaning of life that only pre-silicon, carbon-based entities can ever grasp." Morty said, and Beth stood up.
"I have to call Jerry."
"Wait, why?" Joy asked as Beth stood up.
"You do?!" When Beth was out of the room he turned on the mechanical teens. "What the fuck is wrong with you two? The point of automation is to reduce cost and labor."
"Your feelings are coming from a-" Rick turned off the robotic Summer who collapsed into her plate.
"Tell it to my bread in the morning. You just became my backup toaster." Rick snapped before turning to the mechanical Morty and doing the same to him.
"Aw, geez, my sister died in the spaghetti-" the mechanical Morty powered down and Rick looked at Joy who shook her head.
"Okay so they need a little fine tuning," Rick admitted as Joy walked over, picking up the mechanical Morty.
"God what is in this thing?" she asked as she pulled it towards the garage and then paused, checking the kitchen to make sure it was clear before they both pulled the mechanical teenagers into the garage, Joy tossing Morty down on the workbench.
"I'll get them worked out tonight," he told her as he opened the back paneling in the mechanical Summer's head.
"Do you think you can make them less… Wrong?" she asked as she looked at the mechanical teens.
"I think I'll be able to make them passable." he told her. Joy nodded as she looked at the robots before looking at Rick.
"We have to go get the kids don't we?" she asked and he looked up at her.
"It'll be easier than finding new ones." he admitted, Joy nodding before looking back at the mechanical teenagers.
"I guess," she mumbled. "Couldn't we borrow one or two from the Citadel?"
"Baby I don't think there's anything left on the citadel, and even if there were, we wouldn't go borrow a fucking Summer and a fucking Morty from them." Rick shook his head.
"Okay, okay it was just a suggestion," she said with a sigh. "So if we're going there- will you have to make robots of us too?"
"What do you mean Make?" Rick asked before pushing a button on the underside of the cabinet, the floor opening up and a cabinet of robots popping up out of the ground, robots of each member of the family inside the cabinet.
"Well good to know you're prepared," she said softly as she looked at the robots, finding it a little unsettling to be seeing her own dead eyed lifeless face staring back at her.
"Prepared for everything Baby," Rick said as he looked up from the robot. "You go on home, I'll be along in a bit,"
"Are you sure?" she asked and he looked over at her with a grin.
"Oh you're not getting out of that thing," he told her, Joy laughing as she shook her head.
"Okay, I think I remember telling you that I'd do that if you kept Beth from freaking out."
"Did she freak out?" he gestured to the house and she thought about that.
"Does crying and running off to call her ex idiot count as freaking out?" she asked. "Because I'd count that as freaking out."
"I'm not giving up on that," Rick said and she scoffed softly before rolling her eyes and walking over to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him down for a kiss.
"I'll tell you what Rick," she said softly. "You finish all this up in the next hour, and I'll still do that," she offered.
Rick stared at her for a moment before looking around the room and then nodding, gently pushing her off of him. "Go home, I'll be there in an hour." he told her, Joy grinning and then left the garage, heading home.
After getting home Joy wandered the house, putting things away, pouring herself a glass of wine, and starting a load of laundry, marveling at how different life was here on Earth compared to Feeloria.
As she lit herself a cigarette she looked up when the front door opened, chuckling as Rick rushed in. Looking at the clock above the oven she grinned. "Thirty five minutes," she looked back at Rick. "Impressive."
"Yeah, so you know that thing?" he asked and she looked at him with a quirked eyebrow. "Get into the bedroom, right now." he ordered, Joy grinning before taking a slow drag of her cigarette.
"Oh- Did you, did you mean right now?" she asked as she exhaled her cigarette smoke, Rick stalking closer to her like a predator about to pounce on its prey.
"Bedroom," he said softly, but sternly.
Joy grinned, taking another drag of her cigarette before Rick got close enough to grab her, Joy beaming at him cheekily before exhaling the cigarette smoke in his face as he leaned down to kiss her deeply.
Moaning softly she wrapped her arms around his neck, Rick taking her cigarette and dropping it into the sink before he pulled Joy to him tightly, wrapping his arms around her waist.
As they lay in their bed Joy smiled at Rick, sighing softly as she lay her head on his chest. "I can't believe we did that," she grinned.
"Twice," he commented before looking down at her. "Alright, want to go get the kids?"
"Sure," she sighed. "What's this world like?"
"You ever seen Mad Max?"
"Sure,"
"It's like that with a lot more cannibalism."
"Fun," she commented as she got out of bed, going to the dresser and pulled a pair of underwear out of the dresser, slipping them on and then a pair of tight jeans. "Gotta look the part right?" she asked and he nodded as he watched her get dressed.
"You gonna get dressed too or are you just going to watch?"
"I'm enjoying the show, but I prefer it when you're doing it in reverse," he commented as he slipped out of their very messed up bed.
"I know you do," she told him as she grinned. "But if we're going to go find the kids we should probably get-" she was cut off by Rick kissing her again, grinning as he deepened the kiss. "Mm, one more round?" she asked and he nodded.
"One more round," he agreed before picking her up and throwing her onto the bed easily.
When Rick and Joy portaled to the Mad Max universe they were in a sort of castle where a scrawny blonde man with a bowl cut was being strangled by Morty who had a huge left arm.
Joy watched as Morty dunked the guy in and out of the water before looking at Rick who was looking at a bunch of vials on a cabinet, opening one and smelling it and then setting it down.
"Rick?" Morty looked over at them. "Joy?"
"Sorry, sorry. I-I-I can wait for this to wrap up. Don't let us distract you." Rick said as he turned and looked at Morty who frowned.
"Yeah, well, too late," he said as he dunked the guy's head underwater a few more times. "Just tell me what you want."
"I want you and your sister to come home."
"Oh and you brought Joy with you to convince us because she's a god or something? Besides, don't you have infinite versions of me and my sister?"
"You don't have to kick me while I'm down, Morty. Look, there's no replacing either of you without an amount of work that would ultimately defeat the purpose." he said and Joy hit his arm lightly.
"Plus we don't want to do that, we want to bring you home," Joy told Morty with a smile.
"Yeah, and, you know, whatever new Morty and Summer we got wouldn't know Joy so that would make it a bitch and a half too," Rick said as he gestured to Joy who smiled as Rick choked the man underwater before it seemed like he was dead.
"So who's that guy?" she asked as she looked at the guy in the water.
"I don't really know, I mean it seems like he was a slave owner of some kind." Morty replied as he looked down at him before looking back at his arm which had shrunk back to its regular size. "Maybe the lesson we've learned is that, whether it's our parents' marriage, a glowing green rock, or an awesome, giant arm, sooner or later, we got to let it go."
The man in the bathtub started to twitch a little as Rick made a face. "Oooh I don't know if that applies to the throats of murder victims, Morty." he commented as the man started to gasp and gargle in the water, Morty panicking.
"Shit! Wh-Wh-Wh-What do I-"
"Well, the longer you wait, Morty, the more it's gonna feel like committing a whole murder. I think your arm just called it too early because it wasn't the arm of a paramedic. Here." Rick took Morty's hand and pushed the man back underwater "It's the least I can do. I-I-I-I owe you this much. See, Morty? Now we're both accountable."
"Oh my god, let go of him," Joy shook her head before holding her hands out pushing the man underwater without touching him, focusing on the water and pushing it into his lungs as quickly as possible, the body swelling up with the water before exploding suddenly. "Oops," she said as she looked at Rick who shrugged.
"Well at least we know he's dead now." he said before looking at Morty who looked between the two of them.
"Oh my god you two are into this aren't you?" he asked and Joy grinned slightly.
"I mean I wouldn't say we're not into it Morty," Rick shrugged before looking at Joy. "Wanna dismantle their government baby?"
"I could be into that." Joy shrugged as she cracked her knuckles, looking at the door with a grin.
About an hour or so later they walked out of the palace, Morty looking a little exasperated as Rick cackled. "God damn that was amazing Baby," he grinned as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "My little liberator."
"Mm, sometimes it's nice to just let loose you know?" she asked as she looked at Rick who pulled her to him.
"Come on- guys- can we just- can we not?" Morty sighed as he looked away from the two of them. "We still need to find Summer and get the f outta h."
"Alright, alright," Joy said before seeing a horde of guards running towards them. "After these guys," she said as she walked over to them, lifting herself into the air and then proceeding to reign down a godlike hell on the soldiers.
"So Morty, you gotta admit, it's pretty cool when she does that, right?"
"Yeah, I mean, I dunno Rick. It's cool I guess," he said as they watched Joy use her abilities to pick up two guards and smash them together, blood and bone splattering the ground. "I mean she doesn't do that on Feeloria."
"No of course not," Rick said as they watched Joy as she pulled a man in two and tossed the remains to the side. "But it would probably make them all a lot more willing to listen to her and a lot less willing to try and kill her if she did something like this."
"Rick that- that's crazy!"
"I know, people think they can kill a god- I mean they obviously can, but look at her, how could you want to kill that?" Rick gestured to his wife with pride.
"No, I mean- Rick she can't just go in and create a massacre on her planet?"
"Why not Morty? Maybe if she did- like if she really got some of that old Testament stuff going- Oh shit, look she's got the glowing eyes Morty," Rick said as he nodded to Joy whose eyes were glowing gold and her body seemed to be surrounded by a gold haze.
"Rick!" Morty whined and Rick sighed.
"Oh okay. Baby! Stop playing with your food, wrap it up!" Rick shouted and Joy looked over her shoulder at him, grinned and then started to do just that, wrap it up.
When Joy landed on the ground Morty had his arms crossed and was glaring at Rick who was grinning widely at Joy. "You disapprove?" she asked Morty who shrugged.
"I mean, I'm not one to talk, I took out a lot of my baggage the past few days on a bunch of random guys in the blood dome and killed them all." he said as he looked at Joy and then nodded his head to the side. "Come on, my car is this way."
"This place is weird," Joy commented as Morty led them to where his car was parked. "They have castles and stuff and then they also have cars," she shook her head. "What the fuck is up with this place?"
"Oh it's just a big old clusterfuck of twelve different aesthetics." Rick told her. When they got to Morty's car he hopped into the driver's sear and Joy sat in the back as Rick sat up front.
Standing up in the back as Morty drove, Joy smiled at the feeling of the wind in her hair, not noticing Rick looking up at her, watching as she closed her eyes, held onto the flip bar and leaned back, feeling the wind rushing around her.
"A-Alright Morty, this spot looks good." Rick said as they got to a spot in the middle of the desert. "It's far enough away from the Death Stalkers that it'll take them too long to get to us, but close enough that they might see our campfire in the night."
"We're going to camp here?" Joy asked and Rick nodded.
"Yeah we're gonna camp Baby," he said. "Hang on," with that Rick opened a portal and stepped through it before coming back out of a new portal a few minutes later with a couple of sleeping bags and some camping stuff.
"Have fun at walmart?"
"No." Rick replied sourly.
"Joy, can you help me make a fire?" Morty asked as he started to get some old pieces of wood and sticks and shrubs and shit from the desert and piled them up together. Joy shrugged before starting a fire for them and then sat down on the ground.
"So Morty, want to talk about what's going on with your parents?"
"Not really," Morty replied. "Do you want to talk about what's going on on your planet?"
"Touche." she said, holding her hands up as Rick laid out one of the sleeping bags and pointed to it, Joy moving to sit on the sleeping bag as Rick tossed a bundle of pre cut and split logs onto the ground next to the fire.
Joy smiled when Rick sat next to her and leaned in, kissing her temple. "You know you did a real good job at the castle Baby," Rick told her. "You should think about being a god to more than one planet. These people here could worship you instead of their stupid glowing rock."
"Isotope 322," Morty sighed as he saw the look of confusion on Joy's face. Rick opened the shoulder bag he'd been carrying and pulled out a small glowing green rock, Joy taking it and looking it over before handing it back to Rick.
"It's a bunch of elements that are left over from the nukes that blew up all of this area," he explained. "But when distributed properly a flake of it could power an entire town."
"Interesting," she replied as she looked at him. "So what did you do?"
"What do you mean what did I do? I'm a scientist, I was simply-"
"Rick," she smiled at him. "What did you do?"
"Well the idiots of this version of the world were worshiping the stupid rock as their god instead of usng it to it's fullest potential. So I figure I'll give them a new god, and show them how to use science right." he said as he cupped her chin, Joy smiling.
"You want me to be the new Jesus Christ don't you?" she asked and he shrugged.
"It'd be nice to have someone else representing a new religion is all I'm saying."
"Eh, I'll do what I can," Joy replied.
The next morning they put out the fire and got back into the car, Joy brushing the dirt off of herself as Rick watched.
"Baby, we're just going to get dirty again." he pointed out. "It's not like showers are exactly huge out here, then getting into the driver's seat he pointed to the back. "Morty, back."
Morty sighed before getting into the back and Joy hopped into the front seat, as they drove East Joy stood up when she saw a line of cars coming their way. "Is that guy wearing a bucket on his head?" she asked and Rick snorted.
"Fuckin idiot." he said.
As they all stopped she heard Summer say "Oh shit, Rick brought Grandma Joy."
"Is that a problem?" the man next to Summer asked as Summer watched Joy climb over the windshield and stand on the hood of the car while Rick got out of the car holding up the large green glowing rock they were apparently looking for.
"Oh yeah," Summer said softly.
"Don't even think about it." Joy said as she saw the man reaching for his gun, her hands starting to glow and Summer putting her hand on the muscular man's arm.
"No-" she said softly. "Hemorrhage, trust me- no."
"Look," Rick said as he walked over to them. "The reason I wanted this," he held up the green rock. "Is because it can do this." he pressed a light bulb he'd brought from home to it, showing that the lightbulb lit up. "This is a really special thing. I mean, you could use it to power all your vehicles. You wouldn't be reliant on gasoline. You'll be the most advanced tribe of radioactive cannibals in the whole this version of the world," he said as he handed the rock over to the man with the bucket head.
He shot a portal into the ground and started to step towards it, Joy watching as the bucket headed man looked at the rock and then back at Rick. "Wait-" he took a step towards Rick before turning his head to look at Joy who gave a shake of her head. "Can you stay to show us more?"
Rick let the portal close before nodding as he looked back at the man. "You don't have to ask me twice. Home is nuts right now. My daughter's going through a divorce, and I am not dealing with it in a healthy way at all." he said before gesturing to Joy. "Come on Baby."
Joy let out a sigh as she hopped down from the hood of the car and stood next to Rick. "Looking good Summer," she said as she leaned against Rick.
"I can't believe Grandpa Rick dragged you into this, he must have really thought he needed backup." Summer commented.
"Yeah you guys should see what Joy did at the castle," Morty chuckled as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Oh let me guess, she brought peace to everyone there like she did on Feeloria?" Summer asked with a laugh.
"No Summer, she killed everyone."
"Jesus." Summer whispered as she looked at Joy who smiled.
"I hope you weren't planning on actually trying to hurt your grandfather." Joy said as she looked at Summer who shook her head.
"I don't think I'd be able to get away with it." Summer said slowly and Joy grinned.
"You wouldn't." she said before they got back into their cars and started to make their way back to the Death Stalker's camp.
What do you think of Joy using her powers a little more? Coming into her own as a god with god like powers?
