Chapter 1: The Unexpected Storm
Lumine's eyelids fluttered up slowly until she was completely awake early in the morning. She sat on her bed while she stretched up her body with a soft groan, and she heard a satisfying pop through her stiff muscles for laying down a long time earlier.
The sunlight beamed through the window as birds continue to chirp and fly somewhere while the small wild animals such as squirrels and foxes scurry around outside to find food or do their own business.
She looked across her bed, and she realized that her brother must be up much earlier than her, which was kind of rare. She guessed that he went into the forest to hunt boars, fishing, or gathering ingredients for stocking up their food as one of his daily routines.
They were not exactly poor after they inherited their deceased grandfather's inheritance with his money that he saved up when he was alive and also the mansion. They were just frugal to save up money, but they sometimes buy some food or necessary things for survival.
If you were wondering why they didn't live up at the mansion, it's because there's a lot of good memories of where they grew up in this small house that their grandfather left behind. It may be sentimental to the twins, but that's where they grew up together with their beloved grandfather.
The golden-haired woman decided to get out of her bed, exercising to warm her rigid body up until she finished, and then she fixed her bed neatly like the bed across from her.
After that, she began to prepare her morning routines until she finished wearing her clothes, and she looked at the body mirror. She wore a Chinese, collared, sleeveless white qipao dress with a diamond-shaped in the middle of her chest, which the line of her cleavage was shown.
Underneath her dress, there's a bit of her black sports bra exposed. The skirt of her dress was slitless that reached to her thighs, but she didn't worry when someone decided to peek below her dress since she wore black cycling shorts, and she wore white stockings and white boots.
Around her arms, there are white bracers with black long gloves that reach to her elbows with her fingers shown while her thumbs are covered. To cover her long glove, she wore a matching white qipao sleeves design while her upper shoulders were exposed.
With finishing touches, she put the two light blue flowers with feathers pins around her hair.
Feeling satisfied, she decided to go downstairs.
When she arrived at the kitchen, her brother left her breakfast with two bacon, egg, bread, and three sausages. It was still piping hot on top of the table, which means he just recently left.
She decided to sit while she began to eat. While eating, her mind began to recall a few months ago.
~Flashback~
After getting their inheritance through the lawyer at Liyue Harbor, Lumine and Aether were sitting on the couch in the living room at their house, and they were sitting beside each other.
Her hands were occupied by handling the documents with care while her yellow orbs glanced at the paper. The text that she was reading with can't be absorbed into her mind since she was distracted.
Not only she was the one getting distracted, but her twin brother too. Both of them were silent as their thoughts lingered in one direction: Inheritance.
She can't believe that her grandfather earned so much money, and he gave it all to them and also the mansion. Not even a single mora went through their grandfather's relatives, but he gave them a few of his possessions to be fair. It's like their deceased grandfather played favorites, and he chose the twins instead of them. She felt touched about that.
Of course, some of their grandfather's relatives would not live without a single fight to get the twin's inheritance, but Lumine and Aether fought tooth and nail until they won. It's their deceased grandfather's last wish, after all, and they fulfilled and respected it at the same time.
"You know, instead of selling the mansion, how about we rent it to someone else? Maybe five to six tenants would do it?" Aether broke off the silence while looking at his sister, waiting for her to reply since he wanted to hear her opinion.
Her golden-yellow eyes glanced at her brother, thinking deeply. Well… It makes a lot of sense after hearing his suggestion. They both knew that they can't sell off the mansion because that's the last gift that their grandfather gave them.
She nodded in agreement while smiling at him.
"Yes. Let's do that. We could also earn mora too, but I don't know about the cost of that." She frowned while furrowing her eyebrows.
Aether chuckled lightly, patting her shoulder in comfort.
"Whoa, sis! We will think about that later. But first, let's make a flier, poster, and put it in the newspaper too." He replied, cheering her up and wanting to distract her.
Lumine pouted at him, crossing her arms underneath her chest.
"But brother, mentioning the cost is important!" She retorted.
"But sister," He copied the tone of her voice playfully.
"Let's put that in negotiation with the tenants after finding them." He finished.
Lumine sighed deeply, shaking her head. She knew how stubborn he was, but so was she. Anyways, it will take a long time to finish their argument like this, so she decided to cut it short. Besides, he sounded reasonable, and she didn't want to get more stressed over this since they got a long day today.
"Fine. You win this round for once." She huffed in defeat.
"Hey! I did win many times before that!" He argued. Lumine looked at him innocently with a smile.
"Really, I don't remember it." She replied. Her smile turned into a teasing smirk.
In retaliation, Aether did a battle cry by tickling Lumine around her stomach and sides. Lumine shrieked in surprise, and then she began to laugh joyfully. Her hands were pushing Aether away from him.
"Hahahahah! I give! I give! Have mercy on me, Aether!" She giggled continuously.
"I won't stop until you say that I did win sometimes."
"F-Fine! You win sometimes."
After Aether heard that, he stopped, looking at her smugly. Lumine heaved slightly after laughing so much while her cheeks flushed. She stick-out her tongue at him, and her brother did the same.
Realizing that both of them were being childish, they laughed together happily.
"Ok. We should stop fooling around." Lumine said after calming down. Aether soon followed while nodding in agreement.
"Yes. We have a lot of things to do! Let's do the fliers first." He replied cheerfully. Lumine nodded happily. After that, they began to do their tasks.
~Flashback Ends~
They did find five tenants when they contacted them separately several months ago. Diluc and Kaeya first, but Kaeya did the talking and mentioned his older brother joining along. What followed next was Childe, Zhongli, and Baizhu on different days and times.
The five of them agreed to meet at the mansion at a certain time and day while the twins gave them a tour. After touring, they negotiated the rules, regulations, and costs of the house when they decided to rent it.
Lumine smiled after reminiscing in the past, and she finished eating her breakfast. She decided to wash up the plate and her empty glass until she was done drying and putting it in the proper place where the plates and the glasses are.
After doing that, she decided to go out in the deep forest, wanting to practice and warm up her sword skills.
Along her way, she greeted the old folks and children at Qingce Village. The majority of the villagers are old and young people like the children and a few teenagers living in. But she knew that those teens will be leaving the province behind like most did, looking for work in opportunity and making their own family.
When Lumine arrived at the forest with tall bamboos and trees everywhere that the green leaves gave them a bit of shade, the fresh, crispy, and woody or earthly scent lingered in the air. Unfortunately, they would not escape the ray of the sun above them. Lumine noticed that she was not alone in finding the twin's secret spot for training. Her yellow-golden pupils watched the familiar silhouette, doing complicated and quick movements with his sword.
She could see his sweat dripping on the side of his head while his dull blue eyes were in focus, hitting the imaginary enemies in the air.
When he stopped, he lost focus and glanced at her, giving her a cheerful and friendly smile. He knew that she was there when she arrived from the start. The ginger-haired man made his weapon disappear into thin air.
In the world of Teyvat, if people decide to become a warrior or join the underground world, they will put a magical tattoo as a symbol with magical properties. One of them was summoning and disappearing their weapons at will, and If they were lucky enough, they could channel one of the seven affinities, which the mafia dons see them as fit as they give them one.
"Oh, girlie. What a surprise that you're here." Childe said while approaching her. Her eyebrow twitched slightly in annoyance after hearing the new nickname that he gave her. He was now a few meters away from her.
"What are you doing here?" She asked him curiously, placing her hand on her hips.
"Well… as you can see earlier, I was sparring alone here. How about you? What are you doing here?" He inquired her back in curiosity.
"This is my and Aether's spot for training." She informed him.
"Training for what?" He asked curiously.
"Training for combat." She didn't hesitate to answer him honestly.
"Oh? You know how to fight?" He asked in interest, and he was surprised that the landowners knew how to fight.
Lumine nodded.
"Good! How about a spar with me, comrade?" He offered cheerfully, summoning his sword while gripping his hilt in a fighting posture.
In reply, Lumine called out her sword silently in a fighting position, tightening the grip of her hilt. Fortunately, she exercised every day so that she could be ready anytime in a battle. If she didn't, her winning chance would drop.
Both of their eyes narrowed in a calculation, observing their body language while their bodies were in caution and tense.
Realizing that they won't even take a single move if they keep this up, they both dashed forward quickly until there's a loud metallic clash to block each other's attack.
"Hahaha! Nice move, Lumine. Thinking at the same time as me, I see. I could see that your fighting stance is perfect earlier." He complimented her, and he noticed that this girl has a lot of hidden strength within her. Lumine looked delicate, weak, and innocent on the outside, but when she fought, she's competent and she had skills.
"Don't underestimate me for being a girl, Childe." She warned him while looking at him fiercely with a frown, trying to use her strength to break his defense. They were in a standstill, battling to dominate each other through sheer force until Childe won while Lumine tsked and swiftly stepped back.
Not wanting to break the momentum, her feet weighted on the ground while she sprung forward to have a rapid consecutive strike, but the ginger-haired man parried it in difficulty.
Fortunately for Lumine, the tip of her sword cut the toy owner's cheek while blood oozed out, and he didn't even flinch.
"As you wish, Ojou-chan." He purred while smirking at her. Her eyebrow twitched once more at her new nickname again, which she didn't react much, but Childe noticed that small reaction, and he decided to come up with more nicknames for her in the future.
Childe felt the adrenaline rush through his veins because of having a sparring partner like her. He wondered if she was competent to fight him seriously. Wanting to test the waters, he decided to move in offense.
This time, he used force to attack her in fluid successive hits while the golden-haired teen evaded it by blocking with her blade and sidestepping his attacks. The tables have been turned. Besides, defending himself was not his style. He prefers the frontal attack.
Having no choice but to step a few meters apart from him so that she could think of a battle strategy, she panted heavily while her eyes were focused on him, not wanting to give him a chance to assault her.
"Oh, Ojou-chan. You are making me fall in love with you more and more." Childe smirked while wiping the blood off his cheek with the back of his glove.
"I'm afraid that I don't want to be in your criteria as your dream girl, Childe." She panted heavily, smirking back.
"Too late, girlie~ You being hard to get is one of my lists." He replied, and then he ran ahead while Lumine followed in seconds by facing him.
Because they were focused on their battle, they didn't notice that someone decided to join the fray.
They interrupted them by going in the middle of their fight, doing a quick and forceful swipe, making Lumine and Childe pushed a bit back in momentum.
Lumine and Childe quickly jumped by stepping back, and the one who disrupted their sparring was none other than Aether. He looked pissed, especially towards the ginger-haired man.
"Unfortunately, you have to go through me first in your list to get my sister." The golden-haired teen replied in a threat while glaring at Childe. No one can date his dear sister without his blessing.
Lumine and Childe sweatdropped.
"Brother…" She said in exasperation for being overprotective to her, but she felt touched that he cared and loved for her, even though sometimes it was overwhelming to her.
"Hahaha! Calm do-" The Snezhnayan got interrupted when Aether swiftly attacked him. Fortunately, with his quick reflex, Childe blocked his attack with his sword.
He was surprised about Aether's strength because his face was almost touching on his blade.
"C-comrade! It's a pleasure to meet you." He said nervously. Aether smiled at him scarily.
"The pleasure is not all mine, Childe." Replied Aether, and he was not pleased like what he said earlier. He looked like he was going to murder him, and the ginger-haired young man realized his plight, and then Childe has a great idea to escape this predicament even though there's a risk of his plan, but he will take it for the thrill of it.
"You know, Aether. I don't mind putting you on my list." He smirked at him, gaining his confidence, and then he used all his strength to push him back.
Aether groaned in surprise while his muscles got loosened in a few seconds. Seeing this chance after observing him, he hastily maneuvered Aether's sword on the side, and then he moved forward to give him a quick kiss on his lips as a distraction while Aether froze and Lumine gasped in surprise after watching that on the sideline.
After he pulled away, he licked his lips while looking at Aether in amusement, please to see his cute reaction.
"Bye, comrades! I'll see you soon. And Aether, that's my present to you~" The toy owner bid them farewell cheerfully after winking coyly towards the twins, and then he quickly sidestepped and ran away.
Aether just watched him escape while he was in shock like it's the end of the world to him since Childe stole his first kiss, and he was saving that for his first love. His weapon automatically disappeared in loss of focus. His brain was slowly loading, processing the information after he rewinded what the ginger-haired man had done to him. His cheeks turned crimson in embarrassment for getting distracted or being careless in their battle after Childe gave an unexpected stunt like that, and he felt the mix of horrification and confusion simultaneously because of this strange event.
Lumine looked at him in a combination of pity and amusement while approaching his sibling, patting his shoulder in comfort. If she was in her brother's shoes, she would totally punch Childe's gutt in no mercy if he kissed her like that. Getting shocked first, yes. But punching him in reflex? Totally worth it. If her brother hated and cried or wallowed in self-pity over a kiss, she wouldn't mind beating the ginger-haired guy to kingdom come for him.
When Lumine observed her brother, It seemed that his brother was still out of it, processing the incident earlier. Her poor dear brother.
"Don't worry, brother. I fully support you, even though your straight path changed into a curve one. Or maybe you swing in both ways from the start?" Lumine tried to cheer him up with her full support and half teasing him.
"Lumine!" Aether snapped off while glancing at his sister in horror.
Lumine only laughed at him, and then she quickly sprinted off.
"The last one who enters the house is infatuated with Childe!" Lumine yelled loudly. After Aether heard that, he quickly followed after his sister.
"Hey! That's not fair! Come back here!" Lumine only giggled after hearing him, and Aether called out his sister's name with a whiny tone.
The twins ran fast while they shouting at each other cheerfully and teasingly, going to their home while the villagers that passed them watched at them in amusement for being lively.
