Chapter 2: What happened?
At the Foundry:
" Felicity, don't ever pull a stunt like that again. Do you hear me?" Oliver remarked in a dangerous and harsh tone.
They had just gotten back to the foundry. Felicity wasn't really paying attention. She was thinking about everything that went down that night. She didn't realise how much she missed the thrill of going into the field. Getting involved in the action. All of her thoughts made her completely forget about the bullet wound she had in her shoulder. That was until Sara offered to stitch it up for her.
" Pop yourself on the table and let's take a look at that bullet wound".
That sentence itself was enough to wake Felicity up for her thoughts. She couldn't let Sara stitch her up because then she'd see the scars. And with the scars came questions.
"NO!" she suddenly exclaimed. She didn't realise that she'd shouted until all eyes in the room were on her.
Shit, she thought. Now I need to make an excuse for that.
" I mean... um, there's no point wasting your time like that. It's just a graze. I can do it myself. I've had plenty of experience."
"Are you sure?" Sara asked. "It's literally no problem it'll take 5 minutes. Besides, It's the least I can do to repay you for taking that bullet for me in the first place."
"Honestly, It's fine," Felicity replied. "Besides, as you said, it'll take 5 minutes. I'll go to the bathroom and do it now. When I'm done it'll be like nothing happened."
Sara realised there was no point in arguing with Felicity. Once that girl made up her mind there was no talking her out of it.
"Okay, If you're sure. But if you need anything just shout okay."
"Will do", replied Felicity as she made her way into the bathroom.
Oliver and Dig were just standing there shocked. Felicity was acting strange. Firstly, for someone who'd never gotten hurt before she wasn't even complaining about having pain from the wound. She hadn't asked to take some of the numbing medications they have stored in the foundry. And secondly, why didn't she want to take Sara's help? Something weird was going on.
"What do you think all that was about?" Dig asked looking at Oliver and Sara in dismay.
"I have no idea." Oliver replied.
"Sara". Oliver started. "I know Felicity said she wanted to take care of the wound alone but maybe you should go check on her. Something's up with her."
"You read my mind. I'll go now," Sara replied.
Once Sara reached the door of the washroom she didn't know what to do or say. She decided not to knock because then it'd be too late for Felicity to tell her to leave. As she pushed open the door, she saw something that completely shocked her. Scars. All over Felicity's back and arms. Some worse than hers. She let out a gasp automatically alerting Felicity of the girl's prescence.
"Sara!, What're you doing in here!" Felicity yelled quickly putting her top back on.
"Felicity". Sara started. "What, how, oh my god". Sara took a deep breath and pulled herself together. "What happened to you?"
"Nothing, you weren't meant to see that" Felicity answered glancing away from Sara's eyes not wanting to make any eye contact.
"That doesn't look like nothing. Felicity those scars. They're worse than mine. Please just tell me."
Felicity looked up and sighed. What was she meant to do now? This day could not get any worse for her.
"Sara, look. I can't tell you what happened because I don't want to talk about it. But, what I can tell you is that you and Oliver and Dig have all experienced some sort of your own hell over the past 6 years. Let's just say, that I was in hell myself for a period of my life. But it's over now and I like the way my life is now. So please Sara, don't mention any of this to the guys. They'll demand for an answer and I.., I'm just not ready to give an answer".
Sara didn't know what to say. I guess it's true when they say you never know what experiences people have gone through. Whatever happened to Felicity was her own experience and just like her not wanting to open up about the league of assasins she'd respect Felicity's wishes and be patient.
"Don't worry Felicity. I won't tell the guys. As far as we're all concerned it's none of our business. But Felicity, just know that if you ever do want to talk or need someone to talk to, well then I'll be here to listen."
Felicity gave a sigh of relief. She ran and gave a Sara a huge hug.
"Thank you Sara. You don't know what that means to me".
"Of course. After all, us girls have to have each other's backs right."
Felicity grinned.
"Hey Sara, now that you know about the scars.. would you mind giving me a hand stitching this up. I know I said I could do it myself but I didn't realise how short my arms are. I can barely reach."
Sara just started laughing.
"Girl, sure whatever you need".
5 minutes later:
Sara and Felicity came out of the washroom only to be greeted by the presence of Oliver and Dig who were still waiting to make sure everything was okay.
"Everything alright?" Oliver asked with a concerned look on his face.
Felicity looked at Sara with a hint of worry.
"All good". Sara replied. "Turns out miss independent needed a little help after all."
Felicity just rolled her eyes. She looked at the time. It was getting late and she was tired. She decided to go home and try to catch a couple of hours of sleep.
"Well boys and girls, this has been fun but I'm beat. I'm going to go home. I'll see you all tomorrow for another round of saving the city."
"You want me to drop you off?" Diggle asked wanting to help her out.
"No thanks Dig. It's fine I need the time alone. See you all tomorrow".
And with that, she walked up the steps and out of everyone's sights.
Just as she left, Oliver turned to Sara and asked her what happened.
"Oh, nothing really Oliver". She replied. "I think it was all the adrenaline and shock from today that had her so on edge. She should be back to normal tomorrow."
"Okay well, that's good to know" Oliver replied.
"Well it's late and just like Felicity, we should all head out. See you all tomorrow."
Felicity POV:
I needed the walk home. Sara seeing my scars brought back emotions I tried to bury long ago. Even so, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't help but remember some pretty dark times in my life.
6 years ago Felicity POV:
Cooper was dead. And it was all my fault. The only reason he was in prison was that he took the blame for a stupid hacking thing I did. One thing I've realised over the years is that there is no such thing as justice. Everything is corrupt. Cooper and I, wanted to make the world a better place. Now he was gone and I didn't know what to do, with myself, with my life. Everything was just a mess. I was ready to give up on myself completely until I was approached by this man in a suit. He told me his name was Harold. He looked dangerous but innocent at the same time. Something seemed off about him to me. It's hard to explain it. He offered me a job. Said him and the company he works for have looked into me and they could use someone with my computer skills by their side.
He gave me a card with a number on it and said I'd have 24 hours to decide. The way I saw it, I had two options. The first one being I drown myself completely in grief and succumb to nothing. Or the second one. Take the job, pick myself back up and actually achieve something with my life. I decided to go for option two. Evening came and I dialled the number on the card and told them I'd accept.
"Great", Harolds uttered.
"When do I start?" I asked.
"Oh Felicity my dear, you've already started."
