They were walking through a clearing when Church raised his hand to stop them. They all crouched."Hey, why are we stopping?" Asked a random soldier. The soldier then stood up, only to have a laser take off his head completely. More laser fire came out of the jungle.
"Holy shit! They're shooting at us!" Yelled Church.
"What should we do?" Asked one soldier calmly.
"I don't know! Uh...shoot back or something!" Church ordered, firing in random directions.
"Ow!" Yelled a Covenant soldier in the jungle.
"Woah!" Said Church, genuinely surprised."Did I actually shoot someone?"
"Sorry!" The Covenant soldier yelled."I tripped!" Church only sighed.
They kept shooting for another minute when Church told them all to cease fire. There was silence for a moment."Okay, now let's run into the jungle and get the hell out of here!" They grabbed the dead random soldier's body and ran.
They stopped and put his body down."Those alien fuckers are real sneaky." Said Polonsky from Call of Duty.
"Yeah." Tucker agreed. He then looked at the random soldier's corpse. His head was gone. Nothing was there. Tucker tried his best not to puke.
"Okay, soldiers," Said Sarge as everyone in the camp waited to hear what he wanted to tell them."We found a letter from one of the Covenant commanders. Would you care to know what those aliens think of us?"
"Sure." Said Church."I would rather listen to you than hear Twilight Sparkle talk about the magic of friendship for another hour."
"Hey!" Twilight yelled, offended.
"Well, it says here..." Sarge said, reading a piece of paper."That the Covenant think were really, really powerful. It also says their sergeant, Sarge, is a really cool guy and that everybody loves him."
...
"Well, they're not the only ones to think your cool, Sarge!" Said Simmons after a moment of silence.
"Kiss ass." Muttered Grif.
It was nighttime as James Rake sighed. He was near the machine gun when he saw explosions in the distance. His eyes widened when the explosions got closer. He, along with a few others hid in the foxhole. The foxhole then began to collapse.
No, James thought. This is not how I die.
James finally saw sunlight and heard coughing from the other soldiers. James and the other soldiers then crawled their way out of the foxhole. He finally got out and heard yelling. He looked to see soldiers digging out of other foxholes and saw medics helping the injured.
"Damn it!" Yelled Tank Dempsey."We're gonna make those Covenant pay for what they've done!"
James nodded in agreement.
Sarge was in his tent as it rained in the night."Sir," Said a soldier, handing him a phone."It's one of our men at the outpost."
The red armored sergeant grabbed the phone."Report, over."
"I got the whole fucking Covenant army headed your way, over." The soldier whispered.
...
"Oh, shit," Sarge said.
James prepared the machine gun after he heard that the Covenant were on their way. Suddenly, a bright flare then flew into the dark sky. Loud explosions then came, dirt hitting James's helmet.
Finally, it stopped. Everyone was silent for a moment, wondering what was going to happen. Another bright flare flew into the sky. Everyone looked at it for a moment before they noticed Covenant soldiers running to them.
James aimed and pulled the trigger of the machine gun. The machine gun began to mow down the Covenant aliens but more kept coming out of the jungle."Damn it! How many are there?!" Yelled Polonsky.
"I don't know! A lot!" Tucker yelled.
They stopped shooting when the wave Covenant aliens were dead. One Unggoy ran out of the jungle, only to be shot immediately.
"So...are we done here or...?" Grif asked. More and more aliens ran out of the jungle. The lazy soldier then sighed.
James saw that he was low on ammo for the gun. He then heard that other soldiers needed his help. He grabbed another belt of ammo and grabbed the machine gun, the heat burning his arm when he touched it.
He then ran to help the others. James kept running when he bumped into someone."Sorry," He apologized."I didn't see where I was going."
"It's okay." Said the Sangheili warrior. Their's eyes widened in shock as they stared at each other for a moment before James then hit him with the butt of the machine gun. He then pointed his gun at the alien warrior and fired.
James continued running. Another wave of Covenant soldiers ran at the Marines. James mounted the machine gun on a rock and fired. He aimed his gun at the Sangheili warriors then ran out, shooting them one by one. The marines looked at him, surprised. James took a deep breath as he kept firing.
Finally, it was over.
After the battle, Tucker walked through the forest as the sun rose in the morning. He hadn't seen Church since the battle had begun. He kept walking when he saw something laying on the ground.
It was Church's body.
"Holy crap!" Tucker said in surprise. He stood there, staring at the corpse."They...they actually killed him..."
"Uh, Tucker." Said a familiar voice. The aqua armored soldier turned around to see Church in his ghost form.
"Oh, right. I forgot you could turn into a ghost." Tucker said."Well, let's get back to camp."
