Hello! Back with another chapter. I have taken things from The Cursed Child at liberty. So some things are the same, a lot is different - especially the ages of our characters.
Also would you all prefer longer chapters with slower updates or shorter chapters but quicker updates?
Preamble
Lily Luna Potter was a romantic, an idealist really. She enjoyed finding hidden beauties in life. She saw the world exactly as it should be – not as it was.
Albus Severus Potter was a pragmatist, of course. He viewed the world in a practical way. Every step was chosen to achieve something – nothing done without reason.
And James Sirius Potter – well there really was no one word to describe him. He managed to be idealistic and pragmatic at the same time. He acted on his instincts, not caring about the consequences, making the world exactly the way he envisioned with calculated procedure.
But all three have a story. And just as every story does – their story is filled with ups and downs and tears and laughter, faith and fear.
They make mistakes.
They fall in love.
They get hurt.
However, while this story talks about heartbreak, happiness, and history; it is not truly about any of these things.
Simply put – this story is, at its core, about family.
Three years Later
Platform 9 and ¾
"Mum, you do know you have to let go of me before the train leaves, yeah?"
Though despite his complaining and what most sixteen-year-old boy did in his place, James Sirius Potter did not pull away from the tight hug his mother had gather him in. In fact, Ginny Potter was almost positive he had hugged her tighter.
"With the letters I get about you from school, I have half a mind to never let you on that train and homeschool you."
James just laughed, "We both know you won't do that. I'll drive you madder that dad does."
"Oh, Jamie, what will I do with you?" Ginny finally pulled away but stood, holding him at an arms distance, with eyes only a mother can have. She had to look up at him as he was taller than her, by a few inches. A fact she disliked as it showed just how grown up he really was.
She studied his face as if trying to memorize it before he would leave her again. His dark hair was splayed all over, just like his father's, and his hazel-brown eyes, behind circular frames, held warmth but amusement, as if there was a joke only, he could hear. Ginny wished she could read the thoughts behind his eyes.
"Don't you mean what will you do without me?" The amusement in his eye glinting brighter.
Everyone's goodbye's had already been spoken and all the kids were already on the train, but Ginny had wanted an extra moment with James to remind him to behave and keep an eye on his younger siblings – the world didn't come as easy to them as it did to him. It was meant to be a strict warning, but the sight of her eldest son about to leave her yet again had simply melted her heart and she was barely able to speak her message much less be firm about it.
Ginny sighed, "Write often, keep an eye on your siblings, and don't get in trouble."
"Always do, always do, and no promises." James smirked.
Ginny just shook her head before smiling softly, "I love you, James."
"Love you too, Mum." He kissed her cheek and stepped onto the train.
She held her husband's hand and they shared a smile as they watched the train depart from the station, taking away their three children, their lives, away with it.
Prefect Meeting
The prefect compartment was filled with a low chatter. Albus Severus Potter had never been in the compartment before and, to be honest, wasn't quite sure if he should be here now - though the shiny badge with a cursive P on his chest said otherwise.
He had moved towards the group of Slytherins on instinct, but it had taken everything in him not to look at Rose Weasley who was staring at him. After all, just moments ago on the platform she had happily chattered away about how they could do everything together – sit through meetings, patrol together, fill out forms at the same time – completely unaware that Albus had no intention of doing that.
It seemed to finally hit her that summer Albus and Hogwarts Albus were two very different people. And now that they were on the Hogwarts Express, summer Albus – who had talked with Rose, played Quidditch with Rose, and done summer homework with Rose – was officially replaced by Hogwarts Albus – who only ignored her. Why Rose always let summer Albus come back to her, neither Hogwarts Albus nor summer Albus understood.
He had instead chosen to stand next to Gabriella Selwyn, the other new Slytherin Prefect, and pretended to look interested in her conversation. Though neither she nor any of the other Slytherin prefects had spared Albus a glance – much less a greeting.
A few more Prefects slipped into the compartment as Frank Longbottom and Elena Peagood, the head Boy and Girl, stood up at the front of the compartment gathering everyone's attention.
"Hullo everyone, hope you've had a nice summer holiday! We want to keep this meeting as short as possible, so we'll get straight to the procedures." Elena, the tall and petite Hufflepuff, said with a bright smile.
Albus listened to Frank and Elena speak attentively and tried to keep it all straight: point documentation forms, meetings, passwords, and more. Albus was keen to do his job as a prefect well – after all it was something only he had in his family. No one – his dad, mum, or James – had become a prefect before him. He wasn't going to fail at it and give James another opportunity to mock him – not after James had won Gryffindor the house cup in his first year as captain.
"She's a muggle-born, you know." Rhysand Mullins, a sixth year Slytherin prefect, whispered to Gabriella. "No right to be standing there."
This shook Albus slightly out of his thoughts. While most people rarely brought up blood-status these days, it felt like it was becoming more and more common in the Slytherin house. He was used to the Slytherin's tending away from the muggle-borns, and occasionally even the half-bloods. But Rhys, had been so open about it – so comfortable whispering it despite the compartment full of Prefects. Part of him felt a pang of guilt at telling Rhys it didn't matter what Elena's blood-status was, but he knew it was better to keep his mouth shut on these matters.
Finally, Frank and Elena asked two sixth year prefects to do patrol rounds on the train and allowed the rest of them to go. The Slytherins were the first out of the compartment and Albus followed them, once again ignoring Rose's staring, as he walked back to his best friend, Scorpio Malfoy.
Secret Meetings
The Hogwarts Express had an air of new beginnings, Lily Luna Potter decided. Every breath taken was a step towards the start of a new semester, new dormitory, new classes – new everything. Even meeting old housemates and friends felt fresh and novel as they caught up on their summer holidays.
The newest feeling was finding an empty compartment to spend time with her very first boyfriend, Will Simmons. They had starting dating over the summer and every moment with him felt like bliss to Lily.
He had all the traits that made a fourteen-year-old girl weak in the knees – he was charming and kind and the best-looking bloke in their year. And all of Lily's friends agreed that he was the perfect match to her sweetness, intelligence, and maturity.
Despite, the so called made-in-heaven pairing, Lily and Will did not have a relationship without hiccups. After all, Lily had two older brothers and several older cousins keeping an eye on the youngest Potter – and so the couple had began dating in secret, well aware, that this secret would be much harder to maintain at Hogwarts. But they were two fools in love willing to give anything a try.
And so, at the intended time, Lily snuck into the pre-arranged compartment and gave a giddy smile to the blonde boy – who wore an equally giddy smile – already waiting for her.
"I've missed you," She said rising on her toes to kiss Will's cheek.
He sighed softly pressing his forehead to hers and wrapping a lock of her red hair around his finger, giving it a gentle tug, "Not as much as I've missed you."
In truth, it had only been about a week since the couple had last seen each other – but what is time to a pair of love-struck teenagers?
They sat down, Lily playing with the loose string on her boyfriend's jumper, as they discussed their past week in great detail.
Halfway through a story, Will stopped abruptly, eyes widening, "Merlin, I almost forgot! I brought you a gift."
"Really?" Lily smiled brightly at her boyfriend, "You didn't have to do that!"
"Of course I did," Will returned a dazzling smile, his whole face lighting up. He reached into his pant pocket before handing her a small jewelry box, "I hope you like it. I'm really worried…"
He continued to voice his fears, but Lily tuned him out to opening the box. Inside laid a simple silver chain with three small pendants hanging off the bottom – her initials. It was thoughtful and sweet and again – exactly the kind of behavior that made a fourteen-year-girl weak in the knees.
"Will," She breathed, "I love it!"
Will's eyebrows raised a small grin fixing itself on his lips, "Truly? There were so many options I wasn't sure what you would like best. I can exchange it if –"
Lily shut him up with a kiss.
The Hogwarts Express had an air of new beginnings, of this, now, Lily was sure. And this beginning was perfect.
That's all for now! Hopefully another update in a few days!
