Walking up the steps of UA for the first time (and almost eating it on the way in) was a nerve wracking experience, to be sure. But standing in front of this city of a training center was another experience entirely. He could hear the chatter of surprised students around him. "It's, like, a whole city!" "How much did it cost to build this?" and "UA is amazing!" "Looking around, he set eyes on the girl from the steps. "I should probably thank her for keeping me from falling." Moving toward her, he was distracted by another familiar face. "What? He's here too?" "She looks like she's trying to focus on the trials ahead! What are you going to do? Distract her and ruin her chances to succeed?" As izuku tried to defend himself, he got the distinct feeling that everyone around him had already written him off as a failure. Suddenly, Present Mic's voice blared out over the loudspeakers "Get moving! There are no countdowns in real battles. Run, run, run, listeners! You're wasting airtime here." Looking up, Izuku noticed he was alone at the entrance. "I'm already behind? Hey, save some villains for me!" As he ran into the arina a One-point villain pulled out in front of him. "Target acquired, commencing attack". "I need to doge him! Wait, why won't my feet move?" Just as Midoriya was ready to give up, the bot was demolished by a laser from another contestant. Hurriedly looking for more points, Izuku could find nothing but a few wrecked Two-pointers, and someone else bringing down a three-point villain with… Was that a knife?
Matsuo Hisoka was having the time of their life. Oh they had done things like this before sure, infiltrating clubs and villain bars, but this was UA! The world's most prodigious hero school, and they were poised to slip in without anyone the wiser! All they needed to do was pass this test and they were home free! As they demolished their latest three pointer, they couldn't help but notice the green haired kid with the lost puppy look standing in the alley. Hisoka huffed and looked down at the watch on their wrist. Yah, they had time for a talk.
` Izuku was about to run and look for more villains, when he heard the voice behind him. "Hey you! Broccoli!" Turning back around, Izuku got a better look at the knife-wielding contestant. He (Was it a he?) was taller than Izuku, about 5'8'', with brown, close cut hair and a well-tanned face, topped off with a pair of square-rimmed glasses. "Crazy day, huh? Name's Nomura Toshiyuki. Trying for the Gen Ed course." Cautiously, Izuku reached out and shook the hand offered to him. "Izuku Midoriya, Testing for the hero course. Wait, did you say Gen Ed? But you just destroyed those three villains! With a quirk like you must have…" "Well, that's the trick, isn't it" responded Toshiyuki. "No matter how strong I might be, they wouldn't let a quirkless enter the hero course, now would they? Anyway, I gotta go now. Good luck on your test!" "Quirkless? What do you mean...?" But Toshiyuki was already gone. Shaking his head, Izuku turned back to the test. That was a mystery for later.
Hisoka smiled as they turned the corner. *What a nice boy* they thought. *I should remember him.*
Hisoka watched, amazed as the zero-pointer cracked and fell in the middle of the street, taken down by one strike from Midoriya. As the savior was in turn saved by the girl with the zero-grav quirk, Hisoka couldn't help but smile. "Izuku Midoriya, huh? I think I'll need to keep an eye on you." Smiling, Hisoka turned to leave the area, making a resolution to talk to Midoriya again.
Izuku was exhausted. If he thought the tests were bad, the first day of class was about 100 times worse. The training was bad enough, never mind the stress of potentially getting kicked out. Walking with Eda and Ururaka, he caught sight of someone walking up to them. It was the guy from the test. "Hey there, guess you got some points from that big one after all, huh?" "No, just rescue points." Izuku responded. "I just managed to impress them. How about you?" "Yes." Chimed in Ida. "I saw you at the entry exam. You were quite skilled. Why have I not seen you in any of our classes?" "Oh that's simple." said Toshiyuki "I wasn't trying for a hero class. Heroes, after all, use their quirks in their work, and as I told Midoriya at the test, I am quirkless." "Quirkless?" asked Iad "But all those robots…" At this Toshiyuki pulled a small knife from his belt and held it up to the trio. "No quirk necessary, just skill." "I see." said Ida. "I apologize for my doubts." "No need. I understand why you would be sceptical." Toshiyuki suddenly looked over their shoulder, at a car that had just pulled up at the curb. "That's my ride. Gotta go!" As he walked away, Izuku couldn't shake the feeling that Toshiyuki was hiding something.
As Hisoka slid into the car the man in the driver's seat turned to them, smiling. "Making friends already, Hisoka? It usually takes you at least a few days to get over that paranoia of yours." Hisoka rolled their eyes as they turned to their brother. "If you must know, Tatsuo, I observed the one with green hair at the entrance exam. He seemed like the trusting type, and he had some potential. But enough about me. How was your day, brother dear?" "Oh, just about the same as always. Heros want support gear, villains don't want to explode, mom and dad argue over who gets to do what job, the usual. Speaking of mom and dad, they'll want to hear about your first day." With that, Tatsuo drove away from the school and out towards the apartments.
Rin and Yasushi were just sitting down to an afternoon of relaxation when their children came through the door. Rin smiled up from her place on the couch. "Welcome home Hisoka, and congratulations on surviving your first day." "Yes, well it was quite the ordeal, but I think I came through it all right." Hisoka replied. "Well, then come and sit down! We were about to put on the news. Can't miss the investigations on these new "Murderous villains", now can we?" joked Yasushi. The four family members settled in front of the TV to relax and plan their next move. On the news, various quirk "experts" were pouring over the footage of the train station and the shopping street, guessing at the quirks of their new villains. They were good entertainment, if nothing else. About 15 minutes in, Rin broke the silence. "Well, Hisoka? Tell us about your first day! I for one am dying to hear it."
