A Kenyan Life:

I wasn't naïve; I knew of the possibility of being found with the tribe one day. I knew that people would wonder why I lived with them and what I had been doing during my stay with them. That's what the journals were for. My family was always in the back of my mind. I always wondered if my father had been arrested for what he had done to us, but I never really understood the full length of his punishment until I did eventually return to civilization, nearly five years later. I was fifteen when my father murdered my family. I was going on twenty-one when I returned to civilization, now a married woman with a child on the way. But we'll get to that later. For now, my life with the tribe needs to be heard and before I say anymore, NO I will not tell you the name of the tribe as I do not want the government to hunt them down for not turning me over to them immediately after they learned what had really happed.

The Holy Man took me into his hut and raised me as the daughter that he had lost to a sickness a few years prior. He treated me like his daughter and nothing less. I may not have dressed much like the tribe, but I would always be a part of the tribe and have a special place in their hearts. Miaka and I spent every day together. I taught most of the children to read and write with what little books I had with me. My laptop wasn't really useful for anything as there was no way to charge it so it just normally stayed in my backpack so that it wouldn't get broke. The first few weeks were at first hard on me. I had, while still living with my family, helped on occasion to herd the animals and harvest the crops, but I had never been treated as a member of the tribe. Now, however, it was different. The tribe was risking their own lives to keep me safe from my father and I was risking my own life by keeping them from the government.

After a few months with the tribe, daily life began to get easier. I was now a member of the tribe, though my white skin gave me away as not actually a blood member of the tribe. Miaka's twin brother seemed to take an interest in me almost immediately.
