Major Crimes Mysteries

The Family McCoy

Chapter 2

Provenza had told Flynn it was bad after giving him the address, but Andy wondered just what was happening. He could see the blue and red lights in the air from blocks away meaning there were a lot of response vehicles at the scene. Even through his closed windows, he could smell the remnants of a fire.

Flynn got to the street the crime scene was on and an officer lifted the crime scene tape for him. As he drove past the officer, the officer looked at him and shook his head while staring down at the ground with a clear sadness and upset in his face. "What in the hell happened here?" Andy thought to himself.

He finally made it to the scene and paused to look at the beautiful, large two-story home in front of him. It was the type of home that looked like the perfect family lived there, but being police officers, they knew there was no such thing and that these homes kept the biggest secrets. He could see two Mercedes in the garage and kids' toys and bikes in the side yard.

It was clear the fire department got the fire out before any real damage was done to the home because officers were walking in and out the front door with no issues. He could see Tao, Buzz and Amy standing near each other off to the side trying to console one another. Wes and Camilla were walking out of the house. Cami was clearly shaken, and Wes was trying to comfort her.

Buzz had been part of the Major Crimes detective squad since he finished his detective training. Sharon always had a special affection for Buzz, so when he finished his training, she was right there asking for his placement in her department. Of course, she got it. He stepped into Detective Sanchez's role with no issues after Julio promoted and transferred to give him more time with his adopted son, Mark. Commander Sharon Raydor-Flynn was well respected in the LAPD. She was Mason's right hand woman, and it was clear when he spoke of her, it was with the deepest of respect and admiration. Pope would often have meetings with her to talk Major Crimes and other departments' issues bypassing Chief Mason. Andy wouldn't be shocked if it were Sharon one day, they would be calling Chief.

All of a sudden, he saw Myra Blankenship, who was hired for Buzz's role as a Civilian Surveillance Coordinator, after Buzz left for the academy and then his promotion, come from around the side of the house taking more photos than he had ever seen her take on a case. It was like she wanted absolutely nothing to be escaped from the camera. While Buzz was quiet and introverted, Myra was the total opposite. Smart as a whip, she wasn't afraid to flaunt it nor was she afraid to give her opinion in a loud boisterous fashion.

When Flynn got out of the car alone, Provenza immediately came up to him. "Flynn, where is Sharon?" he asked with an angry tone. Following Sharon's illness, Provenza had started calling her Sharon. He had really become Sharon's right hand man and ran Major Crimes beautifully in her absence, but gladly turned it back over once doctors deemed her ready to come back to work. "She is at home, hopefully sleeping." Andy answered. He started to tell Provenza about the night he had with Sharon. Provenza was already aware of the nightmares and supported Flynn in trying to get Sharon into therapy to talk about it.

"Flynn, I told you tell the Commander it is bad. Why isn't she here with you?" Provenza was now screaming at Andy, which never happened. As Andy tried to answer, Provenza put his hand up to stop him from talking and immediately dialed Sharon's phone. She answered on the third ring. She had clearly fallen back asleep.

"Commander" Louie stated in a very professional, but firm tone to express the seriousness of the situation, "I'm very sorry to awaken you, but I had asked Flynn to let you know you were needed down here. This is a bad one. Commander, we need you here. We have the smallest of victims and it is bad." Provenza said repeating himself in a somber tone with his voice trailing off.
