Chapter 2
A new beginning
Her eyes opened and she found herself surrounded by trees; she was in a forest at night. Caroline got up and looked around she couldn't see any signs of a civilization. Looking through her bag she found the bottle with the doublegangers blood and drank it in one go. She felt her body grow stronger, her hunger for blood grew with every second, her vision and hearing became better, she had become an original. "Now I need to find the village where everything begins" she said while putting her new ring and necklace on. Letting her hearing tune in to any human sounds, she consecrated, and heard laughter coming from a person. With a direction chosen she found a bottle of B-positive blood bottle, she drank it just to be sure she wouldn't lose control. She ran in human speed towards the voices. Getting to a clearing where wild berries grew, she saw them, The Mikaelson, all of them, they were talking. "NO BROTHER!" Elijah said to Kol who was just laughing? "You can´t tell me what to do, now that we are equally strong." Kol retorted back stopping his laughter.
"Hello!" Caroline yelled at them. The 5 originals all turned to look at her. "I seem to be lost can I ask for directions to the nearest village?" Caroline walked over to them. "Yes, it's that way, but you won't find much there, the whole town is dead." Kol said with a smile. "Why would such a pretty girl want to go there anyway? why don't you come with us instead?" Kol spoke with a hit of mischievous in his voice. "I have business there, and I can't come with you all, but maybe you would all like to come with me to the village? My name is Caroline Forbs and I'm just like you, a vampire"
All of them looked spooked. "How did you come to know what we are?" Elijah said standing tall. "That is easy, your hearts don't beat. If you listen you will find that you can't hear my heart either. "She is right" Finn said looking amazed mostly for his accomplishment for listening. "Miss Caroline my name is Elijah Mikaelson, and this is Niklaus, Rebekah, Finn and Kol. My brothers and sister." Elijah said while gesturing to each one. "I know who you are, don't worry I'm a friend to you. I was actually hoping to find you all when I got to the village. But this way it saves me the trouble of tracking you all down." Caroline said while looking at each Mikaelson, but looking more at Klaus. "And why were you looking for us?" Niklaus said looking at her intensely while stepping closer to Caroline.
"I want to help you, becoming a vampire has changed everything and I have all the answer for every question you can make, so why figure it out yourself when you can ask me." Caroline said keeping her eyes on Klaus. "That still doesn't answer why you want to help us, you don't know us we don't know you, who are you to us?" Finn said making Caroline break eye contact with Klaus. "I´m from the future, around 2000 year in the future, I have been a vampire for 1000 years and I have a lot of experience to share, if you want it. The ancestors and the witches have granted me my wish to come back in time to help make a better furure for all of us. I know all of you from my time." Caroline said slowly and taking her time letting the words sink in, before continuing. "I have come back to the beginning to start a school for the super natural and help prepare for the dangers that are coming."
"So, you really want to help us?" Rebekah said in a low voice. "Yes, anything I can do to help I will do." Caroline said while moving past Klaus over to Rebekah, giving her a loving smile. "Nik, Elijah, Finn, Kol, I think we can trust her" Rebekah said. "You don't have to trust me I will prove with time that I am your friend." Caroline said to the group now looking at her intensely. "Will you all come to the village with me? I don't know the way, and most likely I will get lost." Caroline said laughing a bit out of honesty. "I vote yes let's follow the pretty lady back to the village" Kol said while laughing "I think we can handle one girl if she turns out to be the enemy" Niklaus said. The other agreed silently. "So, shall we?" Caroline asked gesturing a direction with a hand.
"How do I control the hunger to feed from humans? I don't want to kill any more people, but I couldn't stop myself at the village, I hate what we have become" Finn said to Caroline he was walking beside her on their way. "Well, my advice is to feel the heart beat and stop right before the beats gets too far apart. Also, if you don't want to drink from humans you can always drink from animals, that is also a sustainable food source. Also being a vampire isn't all bad. We get to expiries change and help humans have a better life." Caroline said to Finn but was sure that they all were listening. "Animal blood, maybe I will try that" Finn said and walked ahead a bit catching up to Elijah who was leading them. Niklaus came to her side and asked "what's the future like in your time?" Caroline looked at him and smiled lovingly. "It's beautiful full of art and music, genuine beauty, you will love it when we get to that time." she couldn't look away. She had missed his eyes and he was right there, next to her, having a conversation. She had tears in her eyes. "Is it so beautiful that even the thought of it makes you want to cry?" He said having a smirk on his lips. "Haha. No, I just remembered someone who said the same words to me that I'm saying to you, it's ironic, that's all." Caroline answered back having dried her eyes. "Brother don't make her cry we just meet her." Rebekah said from behind Caroline and Klaus, she was walking with Kol. "Don't worry miss Caroline I will dry your tear." said Kol from beside Rebekah with a big grin on his face. "Thank you Kol I appreciate that, but Klaus didn't make me cry, you don't have to worry."
"We are here" Elijah announced looking back at Caroline. The village was red with blood and bodies all over the ground. Caroline had to cover her mouth from the stench coming from the village as they walked over countless bodies. "Can you take us to your home? I want to start there first." Elijah nodded and moved further into the village. "Start what there?" Niklaus asked. "The funeral. We are going to bury all of the people that you have killed." Caroline said looking at Klaus with a sad look. "If you say so love" Niklaus retorted back, a bit taken back by what she wanted them to do. "This is our home Miss Caroline" Finn Said pointing at the house in front of them. It was a bit away from the other houses and had more room. "Where is your mother and father, we should bury them first." Caroline asked the group. Rebekah walked into the house and came out with her mother in her arms. Finn Walked over to the barn and carried his father. "Any suggestions on where would be a good spot to bury them at?" Elijah came forward and said "I believe on the back side of the house would be suitable for them. It has good soil." Caroline walked over to the shed and found what looked like a shovel and proceeded to the back of the house with the others following behind also with shovels.
The holes were made two right beside each other. The bodies of Esther and Mikael were placed inside and before anyone could begin putting dirt on them, Caroline had started a speech. "We have gathered her today to say goodbye to Esther and Mikael Mikaelson the father and mother to the people her today. Does anyone wish to say parting words before we cover them and say goodbye for the last time." the Mikaelson´s were silent for a while. "I would like to say thank you mother for being kind to me and teaching me how to cook. I loved our time in the kitchen" Rebekah softly said, her eyes tearing up. "I will miss you mother" Finn Said with teary eyes.
Elijah, Kol and Niklaus didn't say anything. Caroline shoveled some dirk on Esther´s body while saying "Rest in peace I hope you will watch over your children in the afterlife and be happy and proud of them" the others helped cover Esthers body and then they did the same for Mikael. "Thank you miss Caroline, I needed this. I don't know about my brothers but I feel better now that I got to say goodbye." Rebekah said with a soft smile. "It will get easier with time bekah, and please call me Caroline
Each grave they made and each person they buried made the originals feel better. Even if they did this, to the people they knew. They were done and the last grave had been covered. "Shall we prosed to your home, so that we can discus about what you all would like to do, now that you have become immortal." Caroline said to them all. "Well, I don't know about the others but I want to follow miss Caroline around." Kol said almost cheerful. "Thank you Kol that means a lot to me" Caroline said smiling at him.
They walked in the original home and sat down at the dining table made out of wood. "I´ll start, then after, each of you can say yours. I'll be staying here in this village and rebuild it. Kol now you." Caroline said looking at Klaus then looking at Kol. "I meant what I said. I'll stay with Caroline; she has all the answers to all our problems" Kol said in a childish voice. "I'll stay too" Rebekah said. "I think we should stay together for the time being and since Kol an Rebekah trust Caroline, we should give her a chance. And see what she does." Elijah announces. Finn and Niklaus nodded. "Thank you all. I want to start off by saying that you will need daylight rings to walk in the sun. Do you know any witches nearby?" Caroline looked at Klaus. "Yes, there is a witch my mother uses to talk to when she had problems with spells. Her name is Ayana Bennet. She lives a days' time away from here in the far east woods." Niklaus answered. "That´s good. I will go right away; do you have any rings here or in the village? The spell has to be put on an object that touches the skin." Caroline looked around the room, to make sure they were understanding everything. "I think mother had some rings in her room, I will go look." Rebekah said. "I think the blacksmith had rings in his shop, I'll go retrieve them." Elijah said walking out the door to the house. Caroline nodded at both of them.
"What dangers are we going to face?" Niklaus asked Caroline "Well for starters, your father is going to be resurrected by your mother in the future, to hunt and kill you for being a werewolf and a vampire." Caroline said with concern in her voice. Niklaus look taken back by what she said and became angry. "Why would my mother and father want me dead after what they did to us?" Klaus said in an angry voice. "Niklaus you shouldn't let your anger out on miss Caroline, she didn't do you any harm." Finn said to Klaus. "It's because you are the strongest, being created from the spell that was done on you and your sibling. Nature doesn't like it when the balance is off, But I hope to convince the ancestors to have Mikael and Esther stay dead." Caroline said in a calming voice to Klaus. "I have found 3 rings in mothers' room" Rebekah proclaimed while walking into the room. "Thats great now we just need 2 more" Caroline said happily.
"I´m sorry for your loss, I can't imagine losing a brother at such a young age, you must know that it's not your fault. You did nothing wrong. It was the werewolf that is to blame for not having control over their bloodlust." Caroline said to Niklaus touching his hand briefly. "How can you say that, it was my fault! I should have never taken him to see the men change. I knew it was dangerous and I still took him." Niklaus said angrily, but in a lower voice. "You must know that no one blames you. You wanted to make your brother happy and did it out of love. Your brother must have been a brave boy." Caroline said with a sorrowful small smile, looking at Klaus. "He was." Niklaus said looking down at his feet, fighting back tears.
Elijah came in through the door. "I found a hole boxes of rings, I hope you can use them." Elijah said handing the box to Caroline "Perfect, Good work Elijah." Caroline said, while getting up from the chair. "I'll run to the east side of the forest and find Ayana. If I'm not back before the sun comes up, please stay indoors, the sun won't kill you but it will hurt a lot." Caroline said before heading for the door. "Wait miss Caroline, what about you, won't you burn if you don't find the Bennet house in time? Maybe someone should come with you." Finn quickly said, stopping Caroline in her tracks. "It's okay I have a daylight ring and my vampire hearing can pick up any sounds if I concentrate enough. Also, I can't risk Ayana Bennets´ life. You all haven't gained full control over your bloodlust; I hope you all understand my position. We need the bennet witch to be on our side and help from the start and not later." Caroline said with a raised voice. She looked around at each Mikaelson, waiting for them to understand. "We understand Caroline." Rebekah said, and the brothers all nodded.
Caroline made her way out the door and waked to the village. She looked through her bag finding a compass, using it to know which way was east. Her new found speed as an original, and her 1000 years as a vampire has made her so fast that it didn't take her long to find a house in between the trees. she approached the house and came up to the front door knocking at it. "Hello, Ayana Bennet! I need your help, I know it´s late but I must ask you to perform a spell." Caroline yelled through the door. "I´ll be right there." Ayana yelled back. The door opened and Ayana looked at Caroline. "Did Esther send you? What spell do you need me to preform?" Ayana asked worried. "My name is Caroline, I'm a vampire but you don't have to be afraid, I won't hurt you. You will need to invite me in. I'll explain to you what has happened and what spell I need your help with." Caroline said in slow and calming voice. Ayana could see that something was off about Caroline, she wasn't human. "You have my word that nothing will happen to you." Caroline reassured her.
Come in, I'll make some tee." Ayana said and moved in to the house. "Thank you, Ayana." Caroline said and walked in and closed the door behind her. She found a chair to sit on and watched Ayana make a kettle of water, hanging it over the fire that was burning. "Esther and Mikael are dead, so is the whole village." Caroline said sorrowful and looked at Ayana who was frozen in place. "The spell that Esther preformed on her children made them into vampires like me. But they couldn't control their hunger for blood and had kill everyone that was near." Caroline continued and looked to the table. Ayana vent to find two cups putting them down on the table. She had tears in her eyes. "I´m I the only one alive?" Ayana said tearing up. "I´m sorry for your lost, you are the only one left. The Mikaelson children and I have buried all the dead and they are now waiting for me at their home. I found them in the forest. I presume that they were about to head away from the village. I asked them to come back and have the dead properly cared for, burring them and getting to say goodbye.
"I helped Esther create that spell for her children, The ancestors must be furious with me. Miss Caroline, please tell me what this spell you want me to preform is." Ayana said having made the tee and offering a cup to Caroline. "The ancestors will forgive you, the spell that I need your help with is one to make vampires walk in the sun. I promise you this is not going to upset the ancestors. You can ask them for advice right now if that will help." Caroline said taking the tee in her hand. Ayana sat down across from her and agreed to Carolines´ request. "I will contact the ancestors now. Give me some time, you can enjoy the tee in the meantime." Caroline nodded to Ayana. But didn't try the tee, it was made from vervain. Caroline looked around the room seeing many herbs hanging from the ceiling. She kept a close eye on Ayana from the corner of her eye. She knew that this could take some time and didn´t want to stare. But she was in a hurry to get back.
The skies outside the house were bighting up, a light grey color. Caroline had sat with Ayana for hours, waiting for her to open her eyes. And she did, looking at Caroline she said. "Miss Caroline, the ancestors have told me that I can trust you, and that I should help you with your plans. They told me, that they have been warned about great dangers that will threaten the balance of nature, and that you have come to our time to help all manner of beings come together and build a village where these creatures will train and learn side by side. Creating the immortality spell was not a mistake, it was meant to be and with the help of the immortal beings, we have become stronger. I am at your service miss Caroline and so are the ancestors." Caroline looked at Ayana with a smile. "Thank you, Ayana, for now I will only need you to put the daylight protection spell on 5 rings. I believe that there should be some rings with lapis lazuli stones in the box." Caroline gave the box and the 3 rings to Ayana. "I will get my grimoire; I don't know the spell but I will make it work. I promise you, just give me some time." Ayana said and went to the shelf getting her book. "I believe you have a daylight ring; can I see it? That may help me in discovering the means to recreate it." Ayana said coming back to the table. Caroline nodded and looked in her bag to find the satchel with the 10 daylight rings she was given by Hope. She took one ring out. "Here, this ring has the spell on it. The one that I'm wearing has a more complex spell put on it." Caroline said to Ayana giving here the ring. Ayana felt the magic coming from the ring while holding it. "It's actually an easy spell. I can recreate it." Ayana said giving Caroline the ring back. She proceeds to look in the box for the correct ring with the stone. Ayana found 4 rings with the lapis lazuli and one of the 3 rings that Rebekah had found was the right one. "I'll start the spell now." Ayana said and started chanting.
"Thank you again Ayana, I'll be heading out now" Caroline said while exiting the house. The sun was rising in the distance. "If you need my help, come see me, I'll be here. Have a safe journey miss Caroline." Ayana said to Caroline "See you soon Ayana." Caroline said and started running at vampire speed back to the Mikaelson´s house. The sun was now completely visible and sun beams were hitting the ground. she came to the house fast and hear screaming coming from the inside of the house. "It's burning me!" Kol screamed. "Then don´t walk into the sunlight brother!" Rebekah yelled at him. Caroline quickly got in the door and closed it behind her. "I'm back and I have the daylight rings. "Finally, I keep forgetting that the sun hurts me and I get burned." Kol said with a sad face. Caroline put the five rings on the table. "Please some choose a ring from the five here." Caroline said beckoning the others to step forward. "I want mothers ring" Rebakah said and took the ring she had found in her mother's room. She put it on and walked over to the sunlight coming through the window. "Look it doesn't burn. " Rebekah said to her brothers. They all now took a ring and put it on. They all walked over to the window and had to check for themself. "This is incredible." Kol said happily. "I agree brother, now we can go outside and not be stuck here in this small space together." Elijah said.
Caroline put the box with rings and the 2 other rings on the table. "I´ll be planning to build a school here in this village for the supernatural being of the world. Would you all like to help me establish it? Caroline said while walking out the door leaving it open behind her. Finn was the first one to follow her out. The rest followed after. "What's our first task miss Caroline?" Elijah asked. "We make a drawing of the building on the ground and archive a common goal. I would like us to be one the same page as to what the school should look like." Caroline said while taking a stick she found near her. "My vision is something made out of stone and with towers that reach 8 storis up, with 4 levels if possible. and a big basement, more then 50 big rooms for many people." Caroline said while drawing a castle. "I don't know much about building with stone but we can try" Finn said. "Let me draw the sketch of the building I'm good with illustrations." Niklaus said stepping forward and talking a stick from the ground. He then proceeded to draw a beautiful art piece of the building Caroline had in visioned. "That´s amazing Klaus" Caroline said looking at the drawing. "Klaus?" Niklaus asked "I´m sorry can I call you Klaus?" Caroline asked with a soft smile. "Yes, you may if I can call my Caroline." Niklaus said and smiled at her. "No, no brother, you don't get to make the first move, Caroline isn't yours, she is mine; I saw her first." Kol proclaimed. "Kol I'm not an object you can't own me. Besides technically I made the first move." Caroline said calmly. "Haha, that you did" Niklaus said with a big grin on his face. "What do you all think is this suitable for the school?" Klaus asked the group. "Yes, I like it, now we need some measurements for the building. And to find the resources for the constructions." Finn said. "We can use the cave stone and further op the hill is a cliff with some pretty stone." Rebekah said looking at Caroline. "Looks like we have everything in order, now we just need to start this project and hopefully more people will come this way. Rebekah you will find the material we need and map I down. Fin you will build the school. Elijah you will make sure the measurements are in order. Kol you will bring the materiel and Klaus you will make sure that the drawing is followed. When you don't have anything to do help each other. I will cut the material we need. So now we all have jobs. If you don't like your role then change it." Caroline said to everyone. "Haha, you sound like you have been in charge for a long time miss Caroline." Finn said. They all laughed.
