Chapter II - At the Doc

It was morning, 10:30 AM. Astrid is arriving at her workplace, one of her favourite places. Archive of criminal documentation, or Doc. It was quiet, monotonous and organized. She has already lived one of her worst days there, when Acega had kidnapped her. Her tutor was found dead there too. But it has been her sanctuary for the last ten years. She worked there as a favour done to her father, who was a great friend of her tutor, Allain Gallard. The school system did not want her anymore, actually they never wanted her, despite being highly intelligent - autistic people are different and school had to work more than they were willing to do. She had an education because her father struggled so much for that. That place, the archive, was perfect for her. The silence… Her father convinced Allain with that argument. Since that time, her day has been filled with tasks such as putting the criminal documents on shelves, organising and giving them to whoever requested them. She also scanned them and knew all very well, to the point she was an expert at solving crimes and interlinking them, even crimes who seemed unrelated at first.

She entered the building and then started her duty. One of her functions, distributing the files to whoever requested them, was the way she met Raphaëlle. The brunette was investigating a crime and she went to the Doc to request the files she needed, and the blonde provided her with more than she requested. It led to the right way, fortunately, the crimes were linked. In the end, Raphaëlle acknowledged that her new partner was the best criminologist she has ever met and invited the blonde to join her team. Astrid was precisely remembering that day, while she worked to the sound of Bach. Her heart was suddenly filled with happiness; she couldn't help but smile a little at the image of Raphaëlle approaching her. That time was hard for both of them, because both were not accustomed to the personality of each other. The police woman had never had much familiarity with autistic people. For the documentalist, the former was so messy, so chaotic, so rowdy for the latter liking. She barely could stand Raphaëlle and even said that couldn't work with her anymore, that she disrupted her too much! Luckily, they ended up understanding each other. Her life changed so much since that day, now she is more confident than ever. Now she has friends, she has people who care so much about her. She has Raphaëlle, nothing bad could happen to her while the police woman was present. She protects her. Astrid felt so relieved when that thought crossed her mind. And happy, so happy, almost overwhelmingly happy, because she considered the brunette her favourite person, couldn't be another one, it would not be the same. "She was not like the others" she said once, and that remained true. More and more true. A new piece for her puzzle. She did not know that until that special one had shown up, for the better.

The blonde was losing herself with this type of thoughts, lately Raphaëlle was in her mind more time than normal. She never thought about a person so much as now. She was curious about what she was feeling. Entrecroisé de Boer was so much easier than human relations. She was stacking up the files on shelves, but actually she was in another place, in another dimension, when her phone rang. It was a message from Raphaëlle. Her heart jumped abruptly.

"Hello Astrid. A young man was found dead in an abandoned field. I'm going to Doc to get you, see you soon!"
