HI This is BK13 and BKSIS! Thanks to linhsong22's review we have made this chapter longer. So we are thinking about doing all the books with Vi and Nat added. Should we do this? Any way here is chapter 2-
Violet POV:
We walked to our house in silence. Sophie waved to us and walked up to her house. We kept walking to the house at the end of the block. DING DONG. The door opened and I could see our mom standing there. "WHERE HAVE YOU TWO BEEN! Your teachers said that you ran away! We were about to call the police!" She crushed us into a hug.
"Sorry mom, we didn't mean to worry you." said Nat walking into the house.
"Well at least you're safe, come on in we have dinner set up." We walked into the kitchen where dad sat at the table, we sat down and started to eat. "So honey, what happened today? Why weren't you with your class?" asked dad. I prepared to tell them a lie like Fitz told us too but a question kept popping in my head. "Mom, are we elves?"
She froze, dad dropped his spoon. "Don't try to lie to me." I said grabbing their hands. Mom asked "Who told you this?"
"SO IT'S TRUE!" Natalie bursted out.
"Who told you this Nat?" asked dad
"Um a boy named Fitz came…"
"FITZ!" Mom said surprised.
"Do you know him?" sked Nat
"Only heard of him, he's not very important." she said suspiciously.
"So we're elves." I said getting back to my question. I didn't really care who Fitz was, I was just glad we finally knew the truth of our power.
"Yes dear, we are." said dad, ignoring my inner monologue. I looked at Nat shocked. I had a feeling we were but I thought we were going to have to convince them to tell us. We finished our dinner in stunned silence. Once we finished, Nat and I climbed the stairs and walked to our room. We shared for our whole life, or at least since we moved here. It housed two twin beds, a large shaggy carpet and two desks. You could easily see the dividing line between our spaces, mine was messy and colorful and Nat's was clean and organized. We took turns in the shower and flopped down in bed. "Now what's gonna happen to us?" I asked after Nat turned off the light.
"Not sure? What do you think is happening to Soph?"
"I hope she's fine. I mean if her parents were really upset I could probably feel it. Right?"
"Sure. Night."
"Night."
Nat and I met up with Sophie at school. Normally we would walk together but today Sophie had an early class that started before school. I had Algebra with a bunch of fifteen year olds, first period/lesson. My next class was with Sophie in english. When I arrived from running across the school the class was about to start. The only spot was in the very front. Sophie was two seats behind me and offered me a wave. Just as I sat our teacher strode in. "Hello class! Today we will have a pop quiz on shakespeare." The whole class groaned. The test was twenty minutes long with twenty questions. It was easy for me but I saw a bunch of students struggling. I could feel the annoyance of a boy next to me as I flipped over my paper and finished the last two questions. When I walked up to the teacher to hand in my quiz, I could feel the aggravation coming from the people right behind me. I slid the paper on to our teacher's desk and shuffled back to my seat. This was repeated when Sophie finished. By the time the class was over I was ready to run out of here. The bell rang and I shot straight up. Sophie started to walk towards me when a tall girl's foot stuck out. Sophie wasn't looking and fell, dropping her bag. The kids in the back snickered, I grabbed Sophie's arm and dragged her into the hall. "Sorry! I was just so distracted. When do you think Fitz is going to find us again?"
"Sophie, he's gonna come when he comes. Pay attention or the older students are going to-"
"Hey! Soph, Vi, there you are." Nat said, running down the hall. We all headed for our lockers. Sophie's locker was next to an empty beginners math class, Nat's near the library, and mine was in the middle. "How were your parents?" Nat asked.
"Oh good, I'm just grounded for a month." she answered sarcastically. Sophie walked to her locker and grabbed her books.
"Our parents admitted that we are-" I tried to explain. Just then Fitz appeared in the math class next to the lockers. She rushed in and the door swinged close behind her.
"Fitz! What are you doing here?" she exclaimed.
I couldn't hear what he said through the door but by the time I looked up into the glass window on the door they were gone.
Natalie POV:
"Mom! We're home!" I shouted. Placing my bag next to the stairs, "We're in the kitchen," replied mom. We walked through our small living room and entered the kitchen, "Hi honey, how was your day?" asked dad to Vi.
"Um, good." We sat down next to them. As we did, dad cleared his throat, "Girls we have decided that….." he took a deep breath then said, "we're moving."
"WE'RE MOVING?!" shouted Violet standing up so fast her chair fell over, "WHEN? WHERE? DO I GET MY OWN ROOM?"
"Stop shouting!" I shouted. Dad cleared his throat again and we stopped our screaming match, "Our boss has told us that we need to move back to the lost cities,"
"What's in the lost cities?"
"Elves."
"Wait, we're going to where Sophie went?"
"Anyway." He said ignoring my question "Our work also wants us to do a little business trip so we'll be gone for a few months."
"How long?" I asked, dad and mom had gone on business trips before and sometimes they were long.
"Around a year bu-." said mom.
"A YEAR?!" shouted Vi.
"Yes, and could you please stop shouting. We will visit every month for a weekend." said dad rubbing his ears.
"The longest trip was two months. Why a year? Where will we stay?" I asked, confused.
"Well… we have an old friend from back when we still lived in the Lost cities when Nat was little. We talked to her and she said that you can stay there till we get back." Mom said wringing her hands, "We are going to go tomorrow evening."
When we woke up the next day we were so excited. "What do you think it's going to be like?" Vi asked.
"Not sure but probably nothing like here." I looked around our room. We had lived here since I was one. I would miss it. Vi's whole life was here. I know we didn't have many friends or had any family here other than us, but I would miss it. "Natalie! Violet! You have to get ready for school! It is going to be your last day so hurry up!" dad shouted from downstairs. I changed and brushed my teeth, miraculously avoiding Vi as she ran around our room looking for her clothes. "Vi it's over there," I said pointing to the pile of clothes next to her bed. "Fanks!" she said, pulling the shirt over her head. I walked downstairs to see mom on something like a phone. "Yes thank you." "Ok we'll be ready." was all I heard before she turned it off and looked up at me. "This is your last day, so try not to do anything crazy." I nodded, slipped on my shoes and grabbed my bag. "VI HURRY UP I WILL LEAVE YOU BEHIND IF YOU DON'T COME SOON!" I shouted.
"Coming!" We heard a thun.l as a bag fell down the stairs followed by my sister. "Let's go what are you waiting for?" We rushed out of the house. The sooner school was over the sooner we could go to the Lost Cities.
Violet POV:
When we got to school Sophie wasn't there. No one could remember a "Sophie Foster". Everyone acted like she never existed. Natalie kept asking our english teacher and eventually got detention for distracting the class. During Snack, we looked around for her. "She might have already gone to the Lost Cities." Nat said looking around for the last time. "But she didn't tell us she was going." I mumbled.
"Remember Fitz says she had to go soon."
"Ya but I didn't it would be this soon. I thought she would at least warn us she wouldn't be here."
"I'm more worried that no one remembers her."
"Yeah . Why are we the only ones who remember?" I asked. It would make no sense. If everyone forgot it would make sense for us to forget as well. The bell rang and a stampede of highschoolers rushed through the hallways and back to class.
The day flew by and before we knew it we were walking home. Natalie unlocked the door and we walked in. "Mom! We're home!" I shouted as we took off our shoes and hung up our bags. "In here!" came mom's voice from upstairs. Nat grabbed an apple from the kitchen counter and we went to mom. She was packing some of her clothes into a small suitcase barley large enough for an eight day trip. "Why aren't you packing all your clothes?" Nat asked sitting on the bed. "We wear different things in the Lost Cities. No jeans, sweatshirts, or graphic tees." mom said, folding a long sleeve blouse.
"What do you mean no jeans?" I said horrified.
"Exactly what it sounds like. No jeans. Elves basically wear formal but more comfortable human clothing. Nobility even wear capes."
"Are we nobility?" Nat asked.
"Yes. Your great great great, you get the deal, grandfather was part of the original council. They are the people who are like the leaders of the elves."
"Wow… So we are like royalty?" I said with awe.
"No not really. At least I don't think so. we haven't been there in a while things might have changed. Most people are somehow part of nobility."
"Where is dad?"
"He is just checking with people at work. They are preparing where you are staying."
"Oh ok. So where are we staying?"
"We are still finalising it. You will probably stay with our old friends from before we left."
"I'm going to go to my room and take a nap ok?" Nat said getting up and walking out of the room. "Should I pack?" I asked, looking at mom's almost full suitcase.
"No it's ok you can do it after dinner." We kept talking about what it will be like when we move.
Natalie POV:
Vi woke me up after an hour or two, dad had come home during my nap and wanted to talk with us about what was going to happen. I took a shower, changed and headed downstairs for dinner. We had chicken, potatoes, rice(A/N: I have lived in asia almost my whole life, we eat rice almost every meal). "After dinner, we want you to pack. Just enough for a week. When we get there we can get you more clothes." dad said after a few minutes.
"So who's letting us stay with them?" I asked, I didn't remember any of mom and dad's friends. I was one when we left.
"Her name is Juline," said mom, "She has four kids. One is twelve, the other three are a little younger than you Violet."
"Cool! Do you think they will like me?" Vi asked. She had always been social. Up until we were forced to go to highschool everyone loved her.
"Probably. Juline will explain everything once you get there." dad said.
Once we finished eating, Vi and I washed our plates and went to our room to pack. "Looks like mom and dad don't want us to bring a lot of stuff." I said raising the small backpacks that were on our bed. We stuffed our bags with our belongings. I stuffed two pairs of jeans, a bunch of shirts, and three of my favorite books. Vi was running around picking up stuff and then setting it down, making an even bigger mess of our room than it was before. In the end our backpacks were almost splitting through the seams. After what seemed like minutes but was actually an hour, mom called us down, "Girls! Come down now, we need to head out."
"We're coming!" I shouted back. I grabbed my bag and swung it onto my back. Vi grabbed three more things and shoved them into her side pockets. We started to walk out when Violet stopped. "WAIT! I need to get one thing." She ran back to her bed and got a small gadget from her side table. "Can't live without a little music in my life." She said, raising her headphones and iPhone. We walked down the stairs and saw mom and dad in weird looking clothes. Dad was wearing long dark pants with pockets lining the sides. His shirt was a deep maroon and looked more like a fitted vest than anything. Mom wore an ocean blue dress that was studded with rhinestones. The most surprising thing was their long dark capes. Vi, master of oblivious questions, asked "Why are you wearing capes?"
"It's an elf thing, it shows nobility. I think your mom told you that. Here you get one." He passed us two short capes "you'll need it where we're going." Dad grabbing his bag from the couch. We walked outside of our small house for the last time. "Hey mom?" I heard Vi say.
"Yes hon?"
"I can tell what people can feel and Nat can make water move but what can you and dad do?"
"Well, I'm just like you, I can tell people's feelings it's called an empath, and your father is a vanisher. He can disappear."
"Oh, that's why he always beats us in hide and speak." Said Vi
"Why didn't you tell us before?" I asked dad.
"We didn't want you to ask why you had all these abilities. We were trying to give you a normal life."
"Suuuurree. Normal. Being able to move water with your mind is normal. Right."
"We didn't know you would manifest so early, normal kids get their abilities when they turn twelve. We did try to help you though. Remember when you flooded the bathroom because we wouldn't let you have bubbles when you were six." I felt strange when he said normal kids, like we weren't normal. We weren't, I thought I would be used to it after all those years of being called a freak, but when your parents say it.. it feels different.
"Yeah, I guess you did. It would have been nice to know we were a whole different species than our classmates." When we reached the front lawn, dad pulled out a weird crystal wand which looked almost exactly like the one Fitz pulled out. Mom reached into her pocket and brought out two bracelets. One had swirls of silver and an apple green crystal, and the other had strange writing in a different language and an amethyst stone. Vi's lilac stone lit up half of the way and mine was full. "What's this?" Vi asked, fiddling with the band. "It's a nexus. It keeps your particles together when we light leap."
"WE'RE LIGHT LEAPING!?" Vi practically shouted. I shushed her with a hand on her shoulder. "We're light leaping?" she said smacking my hand away. "Yes, this is how elves move around."
"COOL"
"Vi!" I said, "be quiet. I'm pretty sure we don't want our neighbors to hear us." Mom nodded and grabbed dad's hand. "Ok girls. To light leap we all have to be in physical contact and focus on that contact."
"What happens if we don't," I asked hesitantly.
"Well lets just say it's not fun." I grabbed Mom's other hand and Vi grabbed mine. Dad raised the crystal wand up to the moonlight and we stepped into the beam of light.
