Olivia shook her head as she closed the bathroom door behind her. What the hell was she doing? Flirting outright with Alex? She couldn't do that, could she? Alex wasn't, couldn't have feelings for her could she?
As Olivia debated, she stripped and looked at the clothes Alex had given her. She could fit into the shorts, but she wondered how the tank top would fit. As she pulled it over head she grinned. If Alex was attracted to her she would know. The tank top left little to the imagination up top, given that Alex was smaller than her. She opened the door and walked towards the living room, not surprised to find the blonde laying on the couch with two glasses of wine.
"Y'know counselor I don't think we're quite the same size."
She watched as Alex turned and her eyes trailed down to Olivia's chest. They seemed to linger there before trailing up to Olivia lips and back down before Alex finally looked at her.
"I don't see the problem Olivia. The top looks good on you."
"Yeah, as long as I stay in your apartment. I wouldn't want anyone else to see this. Lord only knows what the guys would say about seeing this."
Alex's grin was downright evil. "I'm sure I could think of a few things John would say. Maybe he would even stop looking at my legs and stare at you instead."
Olivia shook her head and nudged the blonde's legs. "Make room." She watched as the blonde's legs lifted for her to sink into the couch and promptly covered her lap. Olivia quirked an eyebrow at Alex and reached for her glass of wine.
"So this business meeting with Langan then? Why did you meet him there?"
She heard Alex groan. "At least every year or two since I've graduated from law school my father sets me up to meet with Trevor. He wants me to go into private practice. Thinks I should be making more money than working as an ADA and Trevor really wants me to join his firm so he will stop losing to me."
Olivia watched as Alex drained her wine glass. "Sue me if I chose to wear that red dress this time. It's been about two years since I've been on a date and I just felt like dressing up. I knew I would be safe with Trevor, it's not like he dates wo-" Alex abruptly shut her mouth and her face flamed.
It clicked for Olivia. Langan was gay. "Oh. Ohh. It's a shame. The dress looked amazing on you Alex. It was wasted on Trevor then." Olivia sipped her wine and looked at the attorney.
"Nothing else to say detective?" Olivia winced at the harsh tone.
"Just promise you won't join Langan's firm. I would hate to go up against you in court counselor." She squeezed Alex's leg and let her thumb rub over the younger woman's calf.
"Mmm. Don't have to worry about that. I quite like my position at the moment."
A comfortable silence dropped over the two as they sat drinking wine until Olivia noticed Alex yawning.
Alex broke the silence first.
"Hey Liv?"
"Yes counselor?" Olivia looked over to Alex and noticed the blush forming as she spoke.
"Did you want to sleep on the couch or the bed? I didn't mean to imply that you had to sleep with me…"
Olivia found the contrast in Alex from earlier both amusing and perplexing.
"I thought we were friends Alex?" Olivia quirked an eyebrow at Alex as she watched the blonde contemplate her empty wine glass.
"We are!" Alex's statement was forceful and fast, "I just didn't want you to be uncomfortable-"
"Are you uncomfortable sharing a bed with me?" Olivia was looking seriously at Alex.
Alex shook her head and Olivia felt the blonde's legs relax on her lap.
"Then why bring it up?"
Alex shrugged.
Olivia's eyes narrowed at the blonde. She couldn't help the next words that came out of her mouth.
"Are you a chicken?"
Alex gasped, "Take it back."
Olivia laughed at the reaction from the young attorney. She shook her head and was surprised when the blonde got up from the couch and pointed at her.
"Take it back Olivia!"
"No Alex!"
Olivia could see the move before Alex made it and jumped over the couch to get away from the attorney's hands. She could only see one way to escape from the advancing blonde, which was towards the bedroom.
Before she could close the door on the attorney, Alex was inside of her room and circling Olivia.
"I told you to take it back!"
Olivia couldn't help freezing at Alex's reaction. "If I had known you were this sensitive about being called a chicken Alex, I'd just do this when we really need a warrant."
"Olivia!" Alex whined, "That's different. This is serious business. You didn't grow up with brothers so you didn't hear that sentence every time you wouldn't jump off of the treehouse or the diving board or wouldn't eat their mud pies…"
As Alex spoke she moved closer to Olivia, stopping in front of the detective. "So you could say that those words are a weak point when it comes to non-work related-"
Olivia wasn't expecting the blonde attorney to launch herself at her and the hands at her waist, tickling her.
"Stop! Alex! Oh my god! What are we, ten?" She was pinned to the bed by Alex before managing to get her arm under the blonde's and flipping them.
"How did you do that?" Alex looked genuinely surprised.
"I'm a cop Alex. Did you really expect that a tickle fight could keep me pinned to your bed?" Oliva raised her eyebrow at the attorney, realizing that she was now straddling the blonde attorney. She liked the way the blonde's eyes were a darked shade a blue than normal, she realized. It would be so easy to lean down and kiss Alex, just a few inches and she could find out what it would be like. Olivia blinked twice. She should not be thinking about that.
She watched as Alex swallowed and saw the blonde stare at her lips, wondering if she was thinking about kissing her as well. Olivia leaned in, convinced she was right.
The shrill ring of her phone caused Olivia to curse. She looked at the blonde, convinced she saw the same disappointment in the blonde's face that she was feeling before she rolled over to answer her phone.
"Benson." Her answer was gruff and annoyed.
"Are you serious?" She ran a hand through her short hair, "And there are no other detectives you can call in to interview him?"
She nodded, looking over at Alex, "Yeah, of course. I was just hoping to get some actual sleep for once Captain. It'll just take me about an hour to get there."
Olivia rolled her eyes, "I was, am, still at Cabot's. We were just," she paused to listen and blushed, "Okay sir. See you in an hour."
Olivia hung up the phone and looked at Alex.
"New case. Six year old victim. Won't talk to any of the male detectives and no other female detective can be reached so I've got to go in."
She watched as Alex nodded at her then smirked. "And why were you blushing?"
"Oh. That. Nothing Alex." Olivia shook her head. As if I'd tell you the Captain implied he was sorry for interrupting us having sex.
The attorney looked at Olivia as if to say 'I don't believe you' but let it go. The attorney sat up and walked towards her closet.
"Wait, where are you going?" Alex's head poked out of the door.
"I'm going with you Detective. Chances are in about an hour, I'll receive a call for a warrant so I figure I'd better just go into the station now to observe the interview and get a head start on this case."
Olivia shook her head but followed Alex's lead, changing into her clothing from earlier in the evening.
"Also, you owe me Benson." She watched as Alex emerged from her closet wearing jeans, a sweater and carrying her briefcase.
"For what?" Olivia would never admit this to her colleagues but she did love calling Alex in the middle of the night for the rare opportunity to see the young blonde in her jeans, "You're the one who decided to come with me to the precinct at midnight."
Alex laughed. She grabbed her keys from the bowl by the door and followed Olivia out of the apartment.
"That's not what I mean Olivia. You answered the phone when you did."
Olivia was nonplussed. She stopped walking in the hallway. Had Alex just said what she thought?
"W-what?"
She felt Alex's hand on the small of her back to keep her moving towards the elevator.
"I said you answered the phone."
Olivia nodded dumbly. "I had to. You know I have to."
She heard Alex's laughter. "Olivia. I know you have to answer your phone, but did you have to answer it right then? The captain could have waited another minute, or five." The last two words were hardly muttered but Olivia heard them and smiled.
She pressed the button for the elevator and turned to face her blonde companion.
"I probably could have. How about after this case, we go out for dinner?"
Alex, for once, looked surprised. The elevator dinged its arrival.
"Is this dinner detective or are you asking me out on a date?"
Olivia smiled and ushered Alex into the waiting elevator.
"A date counselor. You, me, and that red dress."
