Chapter Two

So, I am Stuck in this world with a friend.

John and I found ourselves in the middle of an alley off to the side of what looked to be a market. This was good, we had some money to survive on for the next 14 days. Plus, John was able to pick up some extra to buy some gear. With the basics taken care of I figured we should probably have a serious talk about what class each of us would end up playing. Libertas had mentioned that we would have classes here so we may want to figure it out rather quickly.

"Well John, I think we need to talk about what class each of us is going to be before we go out there. I imagine we have to go to the guild hall to pick them but having an idea maybe worth spending a few extra minutes discussing what we will both be doing."

"I guess that's fair. I was leaning towards some sort of mage or archer personally. What do you think Will?"

"I mean maybe if you do that guess I will be an archer. If we can kill the enemy before they get to us, we might be okay. I don't think I am going to be cut out for being a front-line fighter."

"Yea, well for now let's get me some clothes then we can go to the guide hall or whatever they have here and see what we can do."

With that we started to walk into the marketplace to search for a vendor to buy John some clothes so he would be decent. The sight that assaulted our eyes was a setting straight out of medieval times. Stalls were manned by people who looked to be wearing homespun clothes.

One stall in particular caught our attention. The person manning it was a brunette in a purple gown. She seemed to have an exceptionally large bust and looked to be about 20 years of age. She did not have anyone in line and had several neat looking items at her stall.

"Hello there, Miss?" John greeted.

"My name is Wiz," the women replied.

"Pleasure to meet you Wiz. We are looking to buy some clothes. Any chance you have some?"

"Normally I do not, but this is not my stall. I am simply covering for a friend while she is off grabbing food so let me see what she has," Wiz responded as she began to look through the items, she had below the counter. She returned in a little with a pair of brown dyed pants, a dark green shirt, and a pair of light brown leather boots.

"This is what we have that might be in your size. It will be three silver if you want them." Wiz told us. John happily took out the silver and placed them onto the counter for her and grabbed the items.

"So, Wiz there wouldn't happen to be an adventure hall, or something here would there?"

"You must be new to Axel. About the only thing to do here is either drink at the adventure hall or farm. I can give you directions if you want," Wiz responded to us. We quickly agreed and she pointed us towards our destination.

We arrived at our destination and were surprised at how well it seemed to be constructed. It was a brown building that seemed to take several modern building techniques into its consideration. Unlike a lot of buildings here it seemed to use wooden shingles and the outside looked to have been built using sideboards like you see in the US. The door looked to be sturdy and made of oak. It had a handle that you could pull down and was on hinges.

I looked at John who was still in the hospital gown due to not having a place to change yet. Hopefully, this place would have an outhouse or maybe even a real bathroom though I doubted the latter. "Well John, shall we go inside?" I asked as I reached out to the door handle to open it. However, before I could open it the door blew open with a woman in plate armor storming out. She was very pretty and had blonde hair. She looked upset for some reason and behind her was a whitish hair woman who wore something that could barely pass a bra on her chest hiding her non-existent boobs.

Behind her was a man who looked an awful lot like a Japanese teenager with a green tracksuit on. He looked at me, stopped, and his jaw dropped open. He seemed about to speak when the second woman with white hair called back, "Hurry up Kazuma, if you want to learn the skill steal."

The man named Kazuma quickly left but gave me several glances on his way over to the white-haired women. I looked at John and asked, "You don't think…"

"Can't be, I know the goddess said several people from Japan were sent here but he seems a little young to be a great hero. He seems to barely be 18 if that."

"Fair enough," I stated as we walked in. The inside was just as shocking as the outside. It looked like a bar to be honest. To our left were several groups of people drunk and laughing audible loud. In the back a blue haired woman was talking with a girl who had an eye patch on her left eye and was wearing red robes and a weird hat.

To our right looked to be several bank teller booths. Figuring that is where we had to go to get information or get registered, we headed that way. When we got to one of the women sitting behind the booth was so beautiful, I was taken back with her beauty. She looked to be about 22 with blonde hair and had on a low-cut top that showed a lot of cleavage.

We introduced ourselves and were informed of the fee to buy our membership to the guild. Turns out we had barely enough to register and probably only had enough money left for about three days of food if we slept under the stars. We both instantly signed and paid the money for the membership.

"So, when do we get to find out our abilities? "I asked.

"Well, the process is quite simple. I have two cards that I need your booth to put your fingers on and then I will put them under this machine here. They will register all your stats and from there you will get to pick your class. As time goes on your stats will go up and you'll be able to pick more skills and even branch into different job classes if you want."

With that we both put our finger on the cards we were given and gave them back. She placed John's on their first and it used what looked like a laser to engrave stuff onto the card. When it was done, he was given it and let out a low whistle. I looked over his states were hugely impressive on some and on others it looked like he was barely there at all.

Strength 10

Endurance 10

Intelligence 18

Agility: 16

Wisdom 15

Charisma 10

Luck 10

Overall, he did not have bad stats; his intelligence seemed remarkably high but that was to be expected given his history as a chemist.

The guild girl replied, "Wow, you have extremely high intelligence, agility and decent wisdom. You could be some sort of wizard, or a monk."

John replied back with a grin, "I'll take monk."

Looking at his card in a corner where it said class the word monk was now there. Under abilities there were a couple such as five finger palm strike, double kick and a bonus to using his fists. I gave her mine next. Since John had stats like that, I could not wait to see what mine was going to be. I just knew it had to be something good.

While I was ideal in my thoughts the guild girl had the machine running for mine and handed it back to me. What I saw was a disappointment. My stats were not great and did not seem overpowered whatsoever. My only redeeming quality seemed to be charisma and there was a note about a rare class available.

Strength 9

Endurance 9

Intelligence 11

Agility 9

Wisdom 13

Charisma 18

Luck 10

I looked up at the guild girl and had a question, "What is this note about a rare class? It seems to have a code after it."

"Let me look that code up," she responded as she pulled out a big book that had a lot of dust on it. They must not use it often. Maybe this rare class would be super kick ass. At least that is what I hoped.

"Hmmmmm seems you qualify for a class called the Centurion class. Says here while the class will offer extraordinarily little buffs for yourself, your ability to inspire others to fight and lead in large scale combat are greatly improved. I do not think we have ever had someone get this class here before. Truthfully for an adventurer this is kind of a really bad class. Since you will not be fighting in large scale combat. However, given your other stats your only other choice is the weakest class of them all adventure. So, take your pick."

With a heavy sigh I told her I would take the Centurion class. With that next to class, it now said Centurion. For my abilities it seemed I had a couple options to pick from. My first option was called bodyguard. The description of the ability stated:

Centurions are officers of important note. Their job is to command the battlefield and cannot be bothered by enemies trying to attack them. You can once a day summon two basic soldiers to fight by your side. They will last for the duration of the encounter or if they are killed. These soldiers cannot be commanded directly and will attack the nearest threat. High levels of this ability will increase the number of guards summoned and the level up to elite special forces.

Wow, that was actually not a bad option at all. The ability for me to have two extra people appear and fight for me could not be understated. It could very easily save my neck by having these two people fight in my place as I broke contact and retreated. Which would be an exceptionally good thing given my weakness in combat.

The other ability it gave me was one called prowess it stated:

Some Centurions rose through the ranks. Their fighting ability makes them better combatants than the average soldier. However, they often lack the ability to command soldiers effectively. Taking this ability will multiply your damage by 1.5 however, you will take a 70% penalty to all command driven skills ability and cannot increase in rank.

As much as hitting harder would be nice. The ability to summon bodyguards to fight for me was probably the better option by far. In addition, an officer's job was not to be the trigger puller but rather to be the brains behind the trigger puller.

My next two options were a little more straight forward. I could either take a bonus to my endurance or my strength. Given the fact I was low level I picked endurance as that would enable me to live longer.

Lastly, my last option was given to me. It was battlefield command and stated:

When a pitched battle is upon you. You are able to summon one squad of basic troops to fight under you. You will have direct command and will be able to give complex orders to them. As your level advances so does this ability. Higher levels will increase the number of soldiers summoned up to a brigade in size. In addition, you will have permanent officers under you that you can direct their training of their units. Allowing you to plan in advance what will happen. All soldiers are armed with a rectangular curved shield, two javelins, and a short sword.

Wow that was an immensely powerful ability. Sadly, I could only use it during a pitched battle. I guess when I went to fight the demon king it would be extremely helpful.

John looked over at me and I gave him a look at my card. He let out a low whistle, "Figures you would end up with a class like that. Given your history and all."

"Yea, I just wish it had more uses outside of pitched battles."

"Fair enough, but hey we got to defeat this demon king guy, don't we?"

"Yea, if we can live that long," I replied back glumly.

With that the two individuals I had seen earlier talking came up to us. On the right was a blue haired woman and on the left was the short black-haired girl.

"Excuse me, my name is Aqua, as in the goddess Aqua and this here is Megumin. We are both advanced classes. She is an Arch-Wizard, and I am an Archpriest. We are looking for people to help us finish our quest to kill some toads are you guys in? Hey, your outfit looks familiar. I swear I've seen it before."

Nervously I replied, "This is simply the uniform of the country I come from. Its far away from here."

"Hmmm, likely story. Anyways, what do you say? We have a crusader with us as well and even a shut in neet adventurer. So, join us, will you?"

John and I looked at each other. We really needed the money, so we did not really have much of a choice.

Alright that is a chapter. Still working on how this story will go overall. I know I will be following the general plot lines of the books but no idea how far I am going to deviate. I do know book 12 will be different for sure. So will the attack on the Crimson Demon Clan. That's about it for now. Thinking these two will occasionally link up with Kazuma's main party for big events but they will go on their own adventure.
