As the second day came to pass Mayumi could feel the angry stare of her father bearing down on her as they walked. Her father in-law seemed also to be in a particularly sour mood.
She looked to her husband only receiving a smile. Ashamed she looked away embarrassed. She had heard her husband being chastised by both their fathers as to why they had yet to consummate their marriage.
The marriage was not considered binding until it was consummated. Lady Mayumi felt her face burn as she remembered her hand maids standing off to the side of the tent she had shared with her husband for two nights waiting to confirm that they had in fact been intimate.
She couldn't do it. She was afraid, she had never been left alone with a man before and now she had to be with one in such a way. She knew he was her husband but it seemed surreal, she wasn't ready.
Her Lord husband had assured her that it was alright, once they were in their own household it would be different, there was no rush.
Lady Mayumi realized she had been staring at the small girl walking along side her. She was a daughter of one of her mother in laws servants who had accompanied them. The young girl smiled up at her brightly.
"My Lady." She said sweetly in a sing song voice beaming at her. Lady Mayumi gave a slight nod of acknowledgement whipping her head up at the sudden commotion.
In a moment the world seemed to dissolve into chaos
