Chapter 2: The Ruins
"Stop standing there and walk through the doorway." Frisk tells me as they run through the doorway.
"Wait up!" I yell and run after them, they stopped suddenly, making me look down at what they were staring at. There was a little flower with a face and it was smiling at us. Frisk gave it their blank stare, but I screeched. I hid behind Frisk, the flower chuckles and gives me a comforting smile.
"What's wrong buddy? Is it because I haven't introduced myself yet?" Frisk nods for me even though that wasn't my answer.
"Well then, I'm Flowey! Flowey the flower!" Frisk smiles at Flowey then looks back at me, I was shivering from fear.
"It's okay Rachel," Frisk looks back at Flowey. "I'm Frisk and this is my friend, Rachel."
Flowey waved at me using one of his leaves, I hesitate before waving back. Flowey gets a smile on his face when I wave back.
"I should probably teach you two how things work around here." Frisk nods their head and the world around us turns pitch black. Our souls popped out of our chests and floated into a box with a white outline.
"These are your souls. The very culmination of you being." Flowey looks down at my soul and gasps. He is silent for a moment before laughing manically.
"You know what, nevermind. I don't need to do that when your souls can be all MINE!" I gasp, I told my body to run away but I could only think and move my eyes. I look at Frisk's soul, it was bright red, red meant determination on the surface. My soul flew over to Frisk's soul's side, where I was looking to be exact. Flowey summons some weird seeds in the air and starts to fling them at mine and Frisk's souls. Frisk moves their soul out of the way and I do too, surprisingly quick.
Flowey growls at us and summons a sphere of seeds around the box. I couldn't see anything inside the box but I did notice the sphere of seeds shrinking. I felt my heart drop knowing, I couldn't get out and neither could Frisk. Suddenly, a fire gets thrown at Flowey and he disappears. The world around us returns to normal and I see a goat monster, walk over to where me and Frisk were.
"Such a terrible creature, torturing such poor, innocent youth." The woman-or at least, I think they're female-looks down at me and Frisk. I was terrified and could feel the color draining from my face. The woman gasps when she sees me.
"My child! Are you okay? Here." She holds out her hand for me to take. Frisk looks over their shoulder at me, then grabs the woman's hand.
"I'll take your hand instead, because my friend would prefer to cling onto me." The woman nods at this information and smiles at me. She turns around and walks through a hallway, Frisk and me following her. This room was full of purples of all kinds, there was a gray sign by a purple door and there were gray buttons on the floor.
"This is one of the many puzzles in the ruins, I'll do it for you two though, so you won't have to worry about them." The woman steps on four of the buttons on the floor and walks over to a golden lever, flipping it. The purple door opens and the woman walks through. I lean closer to Frisk.
"She hasn't introduced herself yet." I whisper in their ear. Frisk nods and looks up at the woman.
"I just realized we haven't introduced ourselves yet." The woman gasps and covers her mouth with two fluffy paws.
"You're right! I'm so sorry children, I'm Toriel, caretaker of the ruins." Frisk looks back me expectantly and I give a small wave to Toriel. Toriel smiles and waves back.
"I'm Frisk and this is my friend, Rachel." Toriel nods and continues walking. After a while, she left us to go do something. I wanted to stay put, but Frisk wanted to explore. Frisk started walking off and I quickly follow them. That's why we're currently in a fight with a ghost. Frisk wasn't speaking to me and had their back turned as they fought with the ghost, every time they reached for the fight button, I grabbed their hand and moved it to the mercy button. Frisk had wanted to kill the monsters but I refused and spared them all instead. Frisk frowns at me before turning back to dodging Napstablook's attacks.
I dodge the attacks too and sigh, encouraging myself to speak up. I click the act button before Frisk can do anything and click on cheer.
"You're going to do amazing things in life!" I tell Napstablook, he blushes a bit and looks at me.
"Do you really think so?" I nod my head, making Napstablook smile at me. Suddenly, in the box text appears that reads, "Really not feeling up to it right now, sorry." I smile at Napstablook and he blushes a bit more. I look a lot older than I actually am, so I can understand if he mistakes my age. Frisk was now sitting in the background-if you haven't noticed already, we figured out how to move our bodies-and was silent. I felt a little worried for my friend but turned back to Napstablook. I have to finish the fight before I can do anything.
I ended up becoming a close friend to Napstablook. I turn back to Frisk after the room returns to normal.
"Are you okay?" Frisk looks up at me and sighs.
"It's nothing, let's just go." Frisk walks into another room labeled spider bake sale. I visibly shiver when I read the sign. Spiders? No thanks. Frisk came out after a while and handed me a donut with purple frosting and dead spiders. I feel my self losing my appetite as I look at it. Frisk noticed and took the donut away from me. I have a sensitive stomach, so certain foods can really hurt me after eating them. Me and Frisk continue to walk for a while, until we reach a big black tree with it's leaves scattered across the ground.
Toriel walks around the tree and brings her cell phone to her ear, before she notices us. She puts her phone away and speed-walks over to us.
"Are you two okay? Are you guys hurt anywhere? Did any monsters attack you? D-" I put a finger on my mouth to silence her.
"1. We are perfectly fine. 2. We're not hurt anywhere badly. 3. Yes some monsters attacked us." Frisk nods their head, agreeing with what I had said. Toriel looks at us worriedly and drags us into a built in house. She puts me and Frisk on a table in what looks to be a living room. She puts a hand right above my chest and the other, right above Frisk's. Her hands suddenly hand green flames enveloping them. Surprisingly, the flames didn't hurt when they touched me, they were soft and felt like a blanket.
I look up at Toriel and smile. She smiles back at me, probably glad I wasn't afraid of her anymore. The flames disappear and Toriel grabs me and Frisk. She puts Frisk in a bed in one of the rooms down the hall. She put me in the farthest room away, in the bed. She tucked me in like she did with Frisk, and gave me a kiss on the forehead. I smile and close my eyes, letting sleep consume me.
Hours later...
I open my eyes then, look around the room, there was a slice of pie on the floor and Frisk was standing in front of my open door.
"Yes?" I ask, Frisk hops onto my bed and looks me dead in the eyes.
"We should leave now." I sit up and shake my head.
"Why can't we stay here for a bit?"
"I want to go now, plus you agreed to explore the underground with me." I sigh, they're right I did promise that.
"Fine." I grab the pie off the ground and without doing anything it disappears and a black box with a white outline reads, "You picked up the cinnamon-butterscotch pie." I shrug and follow Frisk out of the room and down the stairs by the entrance. The stairs led to a purple hallway, me and Frisk start walking down the hall.
"Frisk? Rachel?" I hear Toriel call, I was about to respond when Frisk shook her head. I sigh and walk further down the hall.
"FRISK? RACHEL?" Toriel calls again, making my heart feel like it was going to split in two. Frisk grabs my hand and pulls me around the corner. We were now walking in a faster pace.
"FRISK! RACHEL!" Frisk pulls me more, to go even faster. Suddenly, I hear footsteps coming down the stairs. Oh no, we were going to be in big trouble.
"We're almost there!" Frisk tells me pointing to a door that probably led to another part of the Underground. Toriel runs around the corner and spots us.
"STAY AWAY FROM THE DOOR!" I look back at her with tears threatening to pour from my eyes. I rip my hand away from Frisk and run to Toriel, she grabs me, hugging me tightly. I look back at Frisk, who had the most betrayed look I had ever seen on someone's face. I sigh and walk over to Frisk, after Toriel hesitantly let go.
"We can't just abandon everyone Frisk, that's rude." Frisk huffs and turns their head away from me.
"We did it before, why can't we do it now?" I frown, and hear Toriel sigh. She walks over to us and hugs us. Frisk and me froze, we were fighting and we didn't get in trouble? Weird.
"If you two have to leave, then promise me, you two will look after each other." I nod my head and look over at Frisk, they hesitate, before nodding also. Toriel kisses us both on our foreheads and said goodbye, before walking away. I look behind me at the purple door, and Frisk does too.
"Ready?" I say and look over at Frisk, they smile.
"Ready." We walk through the door and go into a black room. Flowey was in the middle and I felt myself turning pale again. Frisk grabbed my hand to let me know I wasn't alone, I smile at them and turn back to Flowey.
"Aww, the morons are able to care. How lovely~" Flowey said with sarcasm dripping off his words. "Must feel proud of yourselves, sparing all the monsters in the Ruins... But will you continue to spare when no one else will? I can't wait to see you two break. Bye for now!"
Flowey goes into the ground, making me and Frisk look at each other funny. What did he mean by that? I turn to another purple door in front of me and Frisk. Well, no turning back now, and with that, we walk through the door.
