Whilst upon the path of being a Witcher, Geralt and Dandelion stumble upon the village of Duloc,

It is there while visiting the local tavern that Geralt finds a contract offering a reward for the ears of all of the ogres from the local ogre family. The local priest demanding them for some ritual to expel the taint of the village.

There were reports of children mysteriously disappearing, the local family of Ogres being blamed.

Mysterious music was heard as the children were seen running off towards the forest that is near the swamp. Strangely enough, only the hearing impaired children were still in the village as well as those who were immobile due to physical disabilities and young age. There were also reports of talking animals visiting the swamp.

These were the reports of so-called witnesses of the disappearances Geralt questioned. Some appeared quite drunk, having overindulged in the partaking of drinking the local spiced wine. Others seemed to be stark raving mad, claiming that they saw a wooden puppet boy walking and talking as if he was controlled by an invisible being.

Others were rambling on about talking cats in boots and talking donkeys.

The village itself, a dilapidated crumbling ruin it once was, the product of many riots, bandit raids and assaults having occurred there since Farquad died.

Geralt leaves Dandelion at the local tavern and slowly makes his way to the swamp. As he approaches the mud hole, he hears pipe music coming from the nearby forest. The ogre known as Shrek comes out of the Outhouse as Geralt approaches the swamp.
