Sam had wondered where Vixen went. After she danced for him, she left, and the other girls came out and offered themselves up to the guys.
The blonde named Britt smiled at him. "She's not here."
Sam looked around and frowned. "I don't know who you are talking about?"
"I saw the way you were looking at Vixen; she's not like other girls."
Sam sighed, running his hands through his hair. "But I am here, Six, and I can show you a good time."
Sam shook his head, "No thanks. I am good."
Six stood next to Britt and smirked at Sam. "He really turned that down?"
Britt nodded. "Yep. Must be crazy."
Six laughed. "Must be something. She's in the room."
"Who is."
Six laughed. "Who you are looking for. We had to make sure you were really into her and not into hooking up."
"You would be surprised at how many guys just want a taste of Vixen."
Sam raised an eyebrow. "She does that?"
"No, she doesn't. And by the way, if you tell her, we sent you, or if you tell her that we approved or encourage this, then I will end you."
Sam stepped back. "Yes, Ma'm."
Britt linked her arms in with Six. "I have a good feeling about him."
Sam watched them walk away and glanced towards the door. He grabbed a water bottle and headed towards the door.
One of Artie's actors looked at him and smirked. "You really gonna tell me you are going in there to try and talk to a stripper?"
Sam looked over, now noticing Brody was there. "No! Yes! I don't know. There is something about her."
"She's a sexy ass goddess; of course, there is something about her. But Sam, have you learned anything? You don't fall in love with a stripper."
Sam sighed and shook Brody off. "Look, you don't have to worry about me falling in love with a Stripper or whatever, so how about you head on out and leave me be."
"Sam, you have a beautiful, smart, and talented girl waiting for you at home. Don't do something you will regret."
Sam shook Brody off and walked towards the door; he let himself in and stared at Vixen as she put her hair up.
"Hi uh, hi."
Mercedes raised an eyebrow and folded her arms across her chest. "Sorry boo, but I don't do the whole sleeping with clients thing. If you want sex, the other girl's out there will gladly help you, big man. But I will not so excuse me."
She walked to the door, and Sam stopped her. "Sorry I wasn't here for sex. I thought you were thirsty."
He held up a water bottle, and Mercedes raised an eyebrow, "For real? You brought me water?"
"Thought you might be thirsty."
"And you didn't think this would lead to me giving you something?"
Sam shrugged. "Just your time."
Mercedes took a deep breath and shook her head. "Too risky."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I am not a stripper, I am an exotic dancer, which means I dance, and I leave. It's safer."
"I don't want to make you feel unsafe. I just wanted to talk, but I won't stop you if you want to leave. I just thought we had a connection."
Mercedes watched him for a moment. "You know I have been doing this for far too many years, and I think this is the first time a guy came in here, just to talk to me. I have had to get a little physical with a few and not in the way they want me to be."
Mercedes knew that Sam was different, the way he held her, the way he spoke to her. Still, she couldn't let herself fall into anything with anyone, especially someone who had seen her perform.
"Look, boo."
"Sam."
"Okay, Sam, I provide a fantasy for these guys out there; I give them a little bit and take it away. I don't mix business and pleasure. That's why I am never on the menu, why I am never out there at the after-party."
Sam nodded. "I get it. I really do get it. You have to keep yourself separate. Like what would happen if Barry Allen or Clark Kent revealed who they were. But then again, you could always be like Marvel and be proud of your identity like Bruce Banner or my favorite Steve Rodgers."
Sam froze, seeing her stare at him. "I'm sorry you probably have no idea what I am talking about."
Mercedes laughed. "I know what you are talking about. Barry Allen is the Flash, and Clark Kent is Superman. Though like you, I am well aware of who the Hulk and Captain America are too."
Sam's eye widened.
"What? DIdn't think I would know about DC and Marvel?"
Sam shook his head. "Most girls who look like you aren't into comics."
Mercedes smirked. "I like comics, and I am more Marvel than DC. I am also into Anime and music.."
Sam froze. "If you tell me you are into Starwars and Avatar and cosplay, I am gonna propose on the spot."
Mercedes laughed. "Well, I think you are safe, not that I have anything against them."
"Vixen, you are just mind-blowing."
Mercedes smiled. "Mercedes."
"Huh?"
"If we are going to be talking, then you should call me by my name."
Sam smiled. "Mercedes? That's really beautiful."
Mercedes blushed as she sat down on the bed, and Sam joined her.
"I still can't believe you are so…."
Mercedes looked at him. "So what?"
Sam shrugged. "So cool, I mean, I never met any exotic dancers before, but something tells me you are pretty different. Did you always want to dance?"
Mercedes shook her head. "No, This isn't the life I saw for myself."
Sam nodded. "So how?"
"I grew up in a not-so-stable environment, my family was amazing, but there were so many things below the surface that messed a lot of things up. And I needed out. I thought I would be in L.A singing, but that didn't work out for me. So I came to Vegas to try my hand at singing at one of the clubs, and Matt found me. It all just spiraled from there."
Sam nodded, and an easy silence filled the room.
Mercedes glanced at Sam. "So bachelor parties don't seem like your taste."
Sam nodded. "They aren't. I am the best man, and I was required to be here. My girlfriend wasn't happy about it."
Mercedes raised an eyebrow. "Your girlfriend?"
Sam's eyes widened. He didn't mean to mention Rachel at all. "Uh yeah."
Mercedes didn't know why she was disappointed in hearing that, but she pushed it aside. "Yeah, well, not many women would be okay with their man getting the kind of attention you had earlier." She teased him.
Sam laughed. "Yeah, if she saw that, she would have a heart attack."
Mercedes shrugged. "Well, if I had a man like you, then I wouldn't be okay with it either."
"A man like me?" Sam asked, looking at her.
She turned back towards him. "Yes, a man like you. You are honest and funny. You like what you like, and you aren't trying to be anything you aren't. You aren't afraid to be vulnerable. That's important to a woman."
Sam stared at her; he never knew a woman could be so kind for no reason other than to be kind. Staring into her eyes, he smiled softly. "You are kind and beautiful. No one has ever said anything like that to me."
She smiled as he moved her hair out of her eyes. "Then you are hanging with the wrong people."
Sam let his eyes move down to her lips just as she licked them. Sam looked back up, catching her eyes with his. "You mesmerize me." Before he could give her a chance to move away from him, he leaned in and kissed her softly. Her eyes closed against her better judgment, and she was swept away by Sam in a way that she had never been before.
After a moment, she pulled away. "Sam, I cant'. You have a girlfriend, and I don't do this."
Sam nodded, pulling away from her. "I know, I know, but that was…."
Mercedes stood and moved from him. "So I should get going."
Sam nodded. "Yeah, um, can I, can I call you sometime? As a friend?"
Mercedes bit her bottom lip and nodded. "I guess. I mean, I do like talking to you."
"Just talking to me?"
Mercedes laughed, shaking her head. "Yeah, Mr. "I have a Girlfriend.""
Sam looked at her. "You know, there are many reasons I wish I didn't have a girlfriend. But none of them mattered until this moment."
"Sam…"
Sam shook his head and moved closer to her. She backed up to the wall, and he placed his hands on each side of her. "I won't kiss you."
"You won't?" She asked, staring at him.
He shook his head. "No. I am a gentleman and a good guy. But if you want to kiss me, I won't stop you."
Mercedes swallowed, she could feel her pulse quicken, and she swallowed hard, and Sam smiled. "I know you feel it; if you didn't, I wouldn't be as bold as I am right now."
Mercedes blinked a few times, trying to move but not wanting to. "Sam I-"
"Do you want me to move?"
She shook her head no. "No."
He nodded, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, giving in, just this once. She stood on her tippy toes and kissed it. What was meant as a soft kiss turned into something more? She leaned in, and Sam pulled her closer to him, kissing her with a passion he never felt before. His hands went o her face as hers went to his hair. He parted her lips, and she left off a soft moan as their tongues met.
Mercedes found herself pulling away, and Sam rested his forehead on hers. "I have never felt anything like that."
"Me neither. It's like…"
Sam kissed her against pulling her up against him, and she ran her hands up his back. "Sam I- Sam, I can't." She pulled away, shaking her head. "You have a girlfriend. And I can't do this." She moved away from him and grabbed her bag.
Sam nodded. "Can I still call you?"
She reached his front pocket and grabbed his phone. Holding it up to his face to unlock it. She smiled, putting her name and number into it. "There now you have my number."
She bit her lip, moving closer to him and kissing him softly. "It was really nice talking to you, Sam."
She gave him a small smile and walked out the door, feeling like she was leaving a part of herself with him as she did.
