Part Two

Newt awkwardly stood at the back of the theatre. He had accidentally slipped on a puddle of used butter just outside the theatre door. This motion nearly revealed him to the guard that he had previously snuck past. (He had almost been caught before when the niffler tried, once again, to force its way out of the case.)

Anyways, where were we…? Ah yes, Newt is still awkwardly standing there. He couldn't decide whether he should take one of the empty seats at the back or stand there until the play came to a close… or a break. He could never tell when a play looked like it was going to end. He was never fond of these sorts of gatherings. Just as he had come to the decision to sit in one of the theatre seats, Picket squealed at him.

'What is it, Picket? Do you see it?' Newt asked his twig-like companion. As if he were responding, Picket gave another shrill squeak, pointed at the seated audience, and continued to burrow further into the flaps of Newt's coat. 'Ah, yes,' Newt thought. 'If I sit down the likelihood of the surrounding people catching sight of one of the creatures would increase." Newt then came to the conclusion to stand in the background.

He scanned the crowd for anyone unusual. Then again there were multiple unusual things seated at the play. The ladies all seemed to have these strange looking hats on and waving intricate fans at themselves. Newt always thought that those delicate fans with the plumage attached to the end was a sad sign of animal cruelty for magical and non-magical creatures. The idea that waving a bird's feathers at your face was stylish made him feel woozy.

Shaking his head he instead turned to the side of the theatre, suspicious of whom he might find. Peering behind the back stage, he saw a movement in the velvety darkness. He saw nothing more. Skeptical of his observational skills in the dark, Newt crept along the edge of the theatre towards the back stage.

On his way up to the front, however, he bumped into a lady's handbag knocking it off of the armrest and onto the floor with a soft 'thump'. The woman scowled at him and ripped the bag out of his hand as he was just picking it up. He mumbled his sincere and soft apologies and continued on with his pursuit.

Scurrying up the stairs he slipped behind the curtain hanging at the front of the stage. The murmuring of the people increased when he disappeared behind the drape. Newt peered at the auditorium, his eyebrows crinkled with worry.

People had started standing up and looking to where he was hidden. A man ran out of the theatre only to bring out the guard that Newt had previously snuck past. Newt then turned his head to the side and snuck a peek at the stage beside him. The play had ground to a halt with the majority of the actors looking over in his direction with a wide variety of expressions. Newt backed away from the stage and quietly hid behind the group of stage props to weigh his options that were rapidly decreasing.

Option one was to leave. Just get up, take his suitcase, and make himself discrete. Option two was more risky. He could stay and try to fulfil his original objective and risk the possibility of exposing the entire wizarding community and be labeled as one of Grindelwald's fanatics. Well, that would be the exciting route. But not the idea that Newt was trying to convey.

The third option was incredibly dangerous, but was the most likely to work. He would have to work quickly in order for it to work. Newt grabbed his case and began to set everything in order.

...

The audience crept closer and closer to the curtain. The security guard pushed and shoved his way to the front of the crowd. He had been informed about the strange looking man that had tried to get past him earlier (He was assuming it was the same man judging by the queer description) had walked down the side isle, walked up onto the stage, and hid behind the curtain. Curious, but cautious, the guard brandished his batton, prepared for any reaction. He reached forward and grabbed the curtain hiding the man. The curtain was cold and slightly damp.

He shivered.

The guard ripped back the curtain and… they were plunged into darkness. Several women and men cried out at the sudden change in lighting. Thuds resounded behind the guard. The curtain he held onto shivered. He let go and stepped away from it. Stepping too far he tripped over something soft and pliable. He shrieked in terror and scrambled back for the door where he had come from. Falling and crashing to the floor just off of the stage he pushed and shoved others out of the way. The guard struggled against the crowd that surged for the door. The bottleneck exit forced the people together in a hot mess. Screams, panting, wheezing, and hyperventilating permeated the air causing the tension and anxiety to drive to a crescendo.

Just as the last people were pushing through the doorway, a white warm light blazed from the front of the room. The guard spun around and gasped. The strange man gripped a small stick in his hands and light streamed from it like a river. On the other side of the barrier of light there was a terrifying creature. It was as if the darkness itself had come to smother the man. A sheet of shadow bore down on the light.

It seemed as though the dark sheet was losing, however.. It shimmered and water seemed to be dripping to the floor. The light warmed the room with terrifying power. Crackling and splintering filled the air. Finally, after a few more seconds of tense struggling the creature dove away from the odd man and half slithered, half shuffled away on the worn floorboards of the stage. The man, not pausing for a second, took off after the monster. He threw his wand off to one side. . . wait. . . he didn't throw it, he still has it in his hand. A suitcase burst out of the curtains and flew into his hand. The creature was slowing down realizing that the man was running around in front of it and opening the suitcase. He then proceeded to scoop up the blackness into the suitcase careful not to touch it.

When the last of the creature was scooped up into the case he latched it up tight and slumped against the side of the case. He let out a long breath and began looking around at the empty auditorium. Spotting the guard he let loose a smile.

"Hello," the stranger stammered. "I'm t-terribly sorry about that. Should have thought about the distress that plan would have caused. Not that I had much choice, that is." The stranger gingerly picked up the case containing the monster and hopped off the stage, marching towards the guard. The guard, wary of the case, stumbled backwards until his back hit the now closed auditorium doors.

"Don't worry," the man concluded. "This will be over in a jiffy. Obliviate!"

...

Stepping outside, Newt gazed over to the police vehicles that now occupied the front of the theatre. He then looked up to the night sky. He mused to himself, "Cold night out tonight. Some creatures might need some help." He then wandered off into the fog to find more adventures.

And that's the end! I had a lot of fun writing this and I hope you guys had alot of fun reading it! Thanks for reading! Criticism is welcome.NIT out!
