I hardly got any sleep that night. After my rough day yesterday I couldn't get any rest at all.
And now Claire this girl I barely know wants me to pretend to be a boy as a practical joke until the girls figure it out.
I'm not sure if I want to go through with it.
"Hey Andy! Rise and shine!"
She said as she shook me gently back and forth.
"Urgh! Just give me 10 more minutes please..."
"I wish I could but I can't. We have classes in 15 minutes."
"What?!"
I sat up instantly and looked at my alarm clock. Class was in 15 minutes.
"Ah I don't even know what to wear or where to go!! I don't know-"
"Hey Andy! Andy! Look at me and relax. Breath in and out."
Claire said as she made breathing motions. I nodded and did the same.
"Now let's just pick an outfit. Head to class and everything will be just peachy."
Claire told me before walking over to my dresser and looking through my clothes.
"Ah ha! This one!"
"Hey that's my things!"
"Oh I'm sorry!"
She said before instantly shutting the doors and tossing me the outfit.
"That's the only manly outfit I can find. Slip it on and let's head to class."
I looked at my outfit and hesitated when I saw it was blue jeans and a t- shirt that said beef jerky on it. Our uniforms wouldn't be out until next week.
"I'm not sure if I want to do this."
"Come on it's just a bit of harmless fun. One day and I promise I will talk to the girls if they still haven't figured it out okay?"
"Oh okay."
I said as I reluctantly slipped on my clothes for the day and headed out with my things after Claire.
We stepped into the sitting area below and it was deserted.
"Where is everyone?"
"Probably running late like we are. Come on let's go."
Claire said while rushing to the door with me close on her heels.
"What class do you have first?"
"Chemistry 403."
"No shit. Me too."
"403 is the room number right?"
Claire shook her head and laughed like I was joking.
"No Andy it's on the 4th floor."
"Wait it is?!"
"Yup. This school is so fucking big. Rich, pompous assholes who can afford to make it so big."
"I think it's great."
"Oh well, to each their own."
She shouted as we headed up the stairs until we finally reached the 4th floor.
"Wow I'm out of breath. God let's just hurry up so we can sit down already."
"How many stories is this school again?"
"8."
"Wow it's so big."
I declared before we stepped into Chemistry class and took relieved seats at a desk in the back.
"Finally a chair."
Claire stated before pulling out her schedule to read it for the day.
"Yes 4 classes all in this floor. What about you Andy?"
I pulled out my schedule to check and I realized that my classes was all over the place.
"No just this one and then up to the 8th floor, and then back down to the first floor, and then the 3rd floor."
"What? Let me see that."
I handed Claire my schedule and she read it with a shocked expression.
"You're here on a scholarship so why is it all like that? What's your major?"
"Political Science."
"This must be an error. You should probably see a counseler about that."
"I'll go during my lunch break."
"Everyone has the same lunch break time except the security guards. You'll be able to see one after classes."
"After school then."
The door slammed loudly and we all jumped to see a very old, angry looking professor.
"I'm Professor Theodore Ludwig. I only have three rules. Show up 5 minutes before my lectures start or you miss the whole lesson. Pay attention, come to class everyday, and study your books hard or you will fail my class. And no I don't have tutoring so you all are on your own except for lectures. I will now take row so shut up and say here when I call your name."
About 5 minutes passed before Professor Ludwig finished taking row and he told us to turn to page 15 in our books and covered about 1/8ths of the books source material.
The class was two hours long.
"I want a 10 page written book report covering pages 15 to 100 on the history of chemistry and the study of chemicals by 9:30 on Wednesday morning. Less than 10 pages will lower your grade by 50%, so they all better be 10 or more pages long. Class dismissed."
I put away my stuff and shook Claire awake.
"Wha- wha what?!"
"Class is over."
"Oh. How long was I asleep?"
"About 10 minutes."
"The professor does nothing but talk. The lecture was so boring to me. I'm starting to regret choosing teaching as my major. Do we have any homework?"
"10 page or more written book report covering pages 15 to 100."
"Ah not a book report. I'm going to fail at this rate and I just started."
"We can have a study session at the library after I get back from the counselers if you want."
"Really you'd be saving my ass."
"No it's not trouble."
"Thanks so much. I'll see you then and hopefully at lunch. Good luck in your other lessons."
"Thanks you too."
I said as I made the steps up to the eighth floor for my next class.
I stepped inside to see a female professor wearing a suit with the name 'Mrs. Wright' written behind her on the chalkboard.
I looked for a seat when I froze and saw Anthony sitting on a desk on the third row.
I had to use all my common sense and rationality to not scream out and just sucked it up and looked for a seat behind him.
Class was fairly easy and the homework we had wasn't as rough as Chemistry had been. The two hours in this class felt like nothing.
"Class dismissed. And if you ever need help I will be in my office next door during lunch break."
I got up and put my books away and did my best to stay calm as I passed by Anthony's desk.
I was almost out the door when I heard him call out to me.
"Hey you. Do I know you?"
Not knowing what to say I just speed walked out of the classroom.
I hurried downstairs to get to lunch when I heard Anthony shout again.
"Hey wait up!"
I don't want to talk to him.
I said as I jogged downstairs not caring if anyone looked at me wierd as I passed by.
I lost track of how many stairs I was running down but I just wanted to get away from him.
The world blurred by me before I suddenly lost my footing and tripped down the stairs.
"Ahhh!"
I landed on the ground in a loud heap.
"Oww...Ouch that hurt..."
I said as I was about to stand up only to suddenly fall back down as pain flared up my leg.
"Owww!"
"Hey! Oh my god! Are you okay dude?"
Anthony said as he helped me up and sat me down on the stairs.
"Yeah I'm oww fine..."
"No you're not. You sprained your ankle. Let me see."
"Don't touch me!"
He flinched back in surprise at my tone. I normally didn't shout at anyone so this surprised me.
I looked up at him to see him suddenly change his expression from concerned to confused.
"Why- I-"
He suddenly froze as the realization hit him.
"Oh the guy- I mean you from yesterday. I'm so sorry I called you a guy. I had no idea you were a umm. I umm...I'm sorry."
"I mean I guess it's okay. Everybody's been saying I look like a guy."
"But still I shouldn't have said that. I umm well first of all may I help you?"
I stared at him in silence.
"With your ankle. Is it alright if I carry you to the nurse or can youwalk?"
"I umm no I actually don't think I can."
"Do I have your permission?"
"Yes you do."
Anthony awkwardly but gently picked me up and carried me to the nurse.
Nobody was around because they were all at lunch so I didn't have to worry about bumping into anyone else much.
"I'm Anthony Zeidberg by the way. Nice to meet you."
"Andy Zuckmore. Nice to meet you too."
I said before he continued carrying me saying nothing else.
I got my ankle bandaged and after resting for a bit I was well enough to walk again. The nurse was even kind enough to talk to a counseler to get my schedule adjusted and then she printed out the new one from the email they had sent.
Not much changed just the eighth floor class to be moved to the fourth floor.
"There you go. Don't want you falling down all the stairs and breaking your ankle again. I recommend taking the elevator from now on so you don't strain yourself. Only when your sick or injured though so don't be using it all the time."
"Thank you ma'am."
"I'll notify your professors about your accident in case they want to mark you as late."
"Thanks again."
I said as I walked out and closed the door behind me. To find Anthony waiting for me outside.
"How are you feeling?"
"Better. The nurse said I should take it easy for about a week or so."
"Alright."
Anthony said before looking like he was about to leave before stopping and turning back to me.
"Do you want to grab some lunch with me? My treat."
"Sure."
~
And just like that I was having lunch with a guy I didn't want to talk to earlier.
He eventually asked about my appearance and I explained to him why I look like this and even my agreement with Claire.
"So you're going to pretend to be a guy as a practical joke?"
"Yes. What do you think of it?"
"Honestly I don't really like any of them all that much. Wish they could be knocked down a peg or two. And do you have any help for pulling off this prank aside from Claire?"
"Well no actually..."
"Why didn't you say so earlier? Meet me at the boys dorm after hours and we'll try to see if my friends are willing to help you."
I didn't why I agreed to it but I thought there was no harm in getting help for something that was starting to sound a little bit fun.
Even though having fun was not what I came to the university to do.
Around 8:00 or so about 2 hours before the curfew I walked over to the boys dormitory.
I found Anthony waiting for me outside.
"I was starting to wonder if you were coming or not. But all jokes aside are you sure you want to do this?"
I hesitated for a minute but then I remembered what my dad said before I came to school.
"Make friends, have fun, and make the most of what you want to do or get involved with in the future."
"Yes I'm sure."
