Once the body was taken back to autopsy, the team was busy collecting what could be evidence. Rivka was within the building that was associated with the scene and found more than her share of evidence. "Boss," she called out and he walked in with Jo and stepped back. "Welcome to primary. They probably brought the body out so then we didn't come in here and actually process something," she added thoughtfully.
Mac grabbed one of his lights and sprayed some Luminol near the door and shone the light that he knew it would react to and pointed. "Seems you're right Rivka. Drag marks towards the door," he responded and she nodded grabbing her camera and managing to snag a few good pictures of the scene. "I know you didn't grow up near anyone from MOSSAD or Israel but," he began cautiously and she pointed her flashlight up to reveal a hook and pulley system.
"I'll stay down here and see what we have. You guys go up a level and be ready for anything. Watch your surroundings," she advised. He looked at her and she chuckled humorlessly. "I may not have grown around people like me, but I'm not stupid. Watch yourselves," she advised. As she grabbed her kit and began to walk around the area that clearly had the victim in it, she snagged a few pictures before taking some blood samples. She glanced up as she heard movement and sighed in relief seeing it was Flack.
"Clear," he promised as he glanced down to see Rivka looking up a little concerned. She nodded and took her hand away from her gun and began to focus. After the fourth hour, Rivka looked around and made note of all her markers and smiled in relief and took them all. "We're done up here. Rivka? What's the status of down there?"
"I'm al-," she began before seeing something. "Almost done. Just stay there for a couple minutes," she responded and grabbed a new marker and snagged a quick picture before grabbing some powder. Flack looked at her confused. "It's a partial print. It's got a little blood in it, meaning that we should be able to get a hit in CODIS or AFIS," she responded.
"When we get back you start running that as it'll take the most time," Mac responded looking at her. She nodded and then as she grabbed up the print and marker she nodded at them and they came down. "How many down here?"
"34. You?"
"29," Jo answered revealing her markers. "You probably had the larger part of the crime scene. Mind if I just glance around see if you missed anything?" She nodded and let her walk around and Jo had to admit that she was pretty good about collecting her evidence. "I can't see anything you missed," she began.
"I can," Mac responded as he walked over to a chain and revealed a hair with the flashlight. "Grab a bag," he advised and she did so grabbing the sample and carefully placing it into the bag and then sealing it off. "Not bad. Your first scene processing alone in a year and you only missed a hair," he mused and she glared at him playfully before getting in the Avalanche after loading her kit up and they were unfortunately caught in traffic. She glared at the traffic while rolling her eyes and then hearing her phone ring. "Your mother again?" She glanced at him confused. "You briefly mentioned it before we left."
"Ah," she responded before putting her phone to her ear and Mac had to chuckle as he heard Rivka speaking fluent Hebrew. He had to remind himself sometimes how he was responsible for clearing up what she said to someone when a bit of her accent clicked in. "Mama can we not talk about that now? I'm working."
"Gimme," Mac mouthed and she tilted her head. "About the dinner?" She nodded at Mac and he again made the motion for her phone and she sighed nodding and putting her finger up to tell him one second. He knew she would have to get her to agree.
"Momma, habus shley, mack talor, whati ladber bout." Jo had a translator out and as she finished talking she learned it was simply Rivka telling her mother that Mac wanted to talk to her. Mac grabbed the phone as she reached up to hand it. "She speaks English too. Don't worry. Just expects me to speak Hebrew with her."
As Mac got her phone he connected it to the speakers of the car. "Mrs Bayar, this is Detective Mac Taylor speaking," he greeted casually and Jo looked at him shocked at how calm he could sound around Rivka's mother. The girl did everything she could to keep her personal life away from the Lab with a 6 foot pole.
"It's an honor to finally hear from you," she continued and Jo turned to look at Rivka who covered her face. "I was trying for months to arrange for her to bring her team here but she seems to be doing everything in her power to avoid it."
"It is not to offend you at all. She speaks nothing but praise about her family. She just tries to keep her personal life and work life separated due to the nature of the career she has chosen. She honors her family and the safety of it, so to better protect you if there's a case she thinks puts you in harms way she keeps you out of the lab even in mentioning." He then looked at Rivka who looked slightly grateful that he was dealing with the issues head on. "How does Friday sound for dinner? We should have a lighter caseload."
"It would be perfect," she answered. "It'll be nice to see you all," she answered before they all noted her mother hung up and Rivka visibly deflated.
"How? I've tried for months to get her to get off my case," she responded taking her phone back.
"I indulged her and let her have what she wanted." She nodded at Mac and he then parked in the garage and once he got out he looked at her. "So what's the dress code? I know your parents are going to be stuck in their ways."
"Lowest standards business casual, highest being dress nice. I'm stuck dressing real nice as you will be my guests," she responded as she messed her short hair. She enjoyed her pixie cut and Jo tugged at one of her pieces and she groaned softly. "I need to get a haircut before the dinner."
"To control all that?" She nodded and Mac chuckled at her as they walked upstairs. "How will they handle the team? Go in order of Morgue up to me and Jo," he advised and she winced knowing he was going to ask the question.
"Okay so Sid," she began thinking honestly. "They'll actually like him. Sid's quirks are knowledgeable ones and they appreciate those kinds of quirks. Who's next?"
"Isn't Hawkes Morgue?"
"He's CSI/ME," Mac answered looking at Jo before looking at her. "Go with Hawkes and then the two Messers, then Adam and then the three of us that are in offices as bosses," Mac answered knowing she'd need an order.
"They'll love Sheldon. Not going to lie if they start talking marriage around him I'm not going to be shocked. That's one thing my parents have been trying for weeks. To get me to agree to marriage. But I want to go slow."
"I know you have feelings for a member of our team."
"I do but I'm not saying who," she responded.
"Tied between Adam and Sheldon," Mac and Jo responded at once and she glared at them. Mac had to chuckle as they walked up to the lab and grabbed their evidence and began to carefully file it as they had to start slow. As Rivka found the print she walked over to the computer and started it's search through AFIS.
"Are kids welcome to come?" Jo knew she wanted Ellie to come if she was allowed. Rivka nodded at that and then thought carefully. "Don't worry I won't let her wear anything with ripped jeans or anything that exposes a lot," she promised.
"Thank you. That's my only request," she responded. As she was waiting for results she thought about the Messers. Mac and Jo knew they had to hear what her parents were going to think of everyone on the team so they knew what to expect. "So for Lindsay? They'll like her. She's smart, humorous and a good mother. Which is the biggest standard they'll look at her for." She then thought about Danny. "As long as Danny doesn't say boom or be ... well ... himself to an extent we're good. Not asking him to fake who he is. Absolutely not."
"Just dial it back a bit," Mac answered and she nodded at that. "I'll mention that to him. I know you like him for who he is, but it's just for the sake of surviving the dinner," he added thoughtfully and she nodded at that looking concerned. "What about Don?"
"Flack? Oh they'll appreciate him," she responded and Mac looked at her confused. "When we moved here, I had an older brother. He was killed. Flack is a lot like him," she explained and Mac looked at her. "I don't look at him like that. It's just similarities I can see."
"Don views you the same," Mac answered as he looked at her analyzing the hair and frowning. "What's wrong?"
"My eyes could be absolute crap but I swear that's a synthetic which makes no sense," she answered and Mac walked over and looked before nodding at her. "If it's a synthetic hair," she began before looking at one of the pieces she got. "Running one thing through GCMS as we may have a piece of evidence present but in pieces." Jo looked at her. "If that comes back to latex and plastic, we have someone wearing a mask."
"Alright so that brings you to me, Jo and Stella," Mac responded as he knew they had to wait for the results on some of their tests.
"Jo? They'll love her and Ellie. Just please do me a favor and don't mention your past in the FBI even if they keep prodding," she begged Jo and she looked at her. "My mother's dream was to have me or my brother in the FBI. No offence I'm happy where I am thanks," she responded.
"I'll keep it quiet." Jo completely understood what Rivka was getting at. Because of the death of her older brother, Rivka was having standards set on her and she didn't want to obey them. She wanted to carve her own role out. "Now what about Mac?"
"Bringing Christine?"
"If she's able to," Mac answered and she looked at him and nodded before smiling as she checked a sample over. "I'm taking that as an I'll be liked." She chuckled at that. "Or is that based of my phone conversation with your mother?"
"Off the conversation with my mother," she responded casually.
"Christine?"
"They'll love her. By the way I need you to ask a favour of Christine for me."
"Need to learn to cook?"
"Yeah my parents want me to make something for a family thing next month."
"Allowed guests?"
"Two," she responded casually.
"I'll get back to you on that," Mac answered and then looked at her. "Now what about Stella?"
"She's a lot like Jo and Lindsay combined. She'll be well liked."
After a few more hours, Rivka and Jo were both looking ready for some sleep. "Go home. Both of you," Mac advised looking at them. "Oh and Rivka?" She glanced back as she was arriving at the elevator. "Christine says she'll be there on Friday and also to start coming to her restaurant on Thursdays after work and she'll help you out."
"She's a lifesaver," Rivka decided. As she went down to the elevator, Jo looked at Mac smiling before going with Rivka's elevator. Mac smiled knowing that he was helping out the youngest of the team. She was young and needed to learn things in the world and if he could help her with something as simple as learning how to make food he'd do it.
When he was getting ready to leave he noticed Sheldon was still there late. "You and Rivka are on call tomorrow. Go home and get some sleep," he advised the former doctor. The man looked at him shocked and he chuckled. "If I'm chastising Rivka for coming in exhausted, I'll do the same to those who are above her in status."
"Fair enough," he answered as he finished his results. "I'll have all the other results done by tomorrow morning," he assured the man and Mac nodded thinking about how both Rivka and Sheldon were obsessed with getting things done.
"Also next Friday, the team is expected to be at Rivka's parents place for dinner. So bring a change of clothes," he advised. Sheldon looked at him confused and Mac chuckled. "I arranged it since Rivka was carefully avoiding the topic with her parents. So to get them to stop harassing her at work."
"Did she give a dress code?"
"Business casual is the minimum," Mac explained and Sheldon nodded walking to the elevator and heading out himself. "Maybe this case will just end the way we need it to," Mac mused softly. He had managed to wrap up the rest of the case that Rivka had been working on before Danny and Flack woke her up to take on the new case that was near the new towers from the World Trade Center. He had wanted to make sure Rivka didn't find a way to back out. It had seemed their Jane Doe left too early and had experienced shock and unfortunately placed their prime suspect in the crossfire unintentionally.
