Chapter Two

Sophie walked quickly across the grass, her bare feet squishing a bit into the slightly damp and squishy ground. She waved at her friend Marella and stopped to say a quick hi to Tam, Fitz's designated emo friend who add been crushing on Biana for longer than she had known him. After wondering through the party, a bit, she found Biana's shoes next to the pool.

"Soph, Hey over here." Biana was sitting across the pool with her jeans rolled up dipping her toes into the water talking to Maruca. "Can you bring my shoes please?"

Sophie picked up the shoes and walked around the pool to sit with them. Biana laughed at something Maruca said as Sophie walked up.

"Hey Maruca, Biana," Sophie smiled and sat down next to Maruca. She let her toes dip into the pool cooling her off.

"Oooh, Sophie I love your toenail polish," Maruca pointed as Sophie's shiny fire engine red toes that she'd done that afternoon on the lawn before Fitz had screamed at her and she had hidden in her room.

"Thanks," Sophie beamed. It was always nice getting complements from Maruca because while she was just as fashion forward and stylish as Biana she didn't complement close to as often, so it meant a lot more.

They sat in silence for a few moments before Maruca jumped up, "I want to go say hi to Collette, see you later," Then she ran off to a girl with the brightest purple hair Sophie had ever seen.

Sophie turned to Biana, "So who's the guy," she whispered.

"Shhh," Biana said.

"Sorry. Who is it?"

Biana blushed so hard that her cheeks almost matched Sophie toenails.

"Go on, which guy," Sophie surveyed the pool area but didn't see anybody that looked like Biana's type, which was heirs to huge companies like A. D. Vacker Global Talent Agency, or models, or once a rich and famous actor whose name wasn't to be mentioned in front of Biana. (It was a very messy breakup)

Biana gestured towards a guy who was so far from her normal type that Sophie did a double take. He was on the skinnier side and wasn't very tall. He had reddish-blond hair and almost purple blue eyes. When he glanced over to where she and Biana were sitting and quickly looked away Sophie noticed a sprinkling of freckles across his nose that made him look very young and childlike.

"Did you see that he looked over here," Biana stage whispered. "Go talk to him, please."

"Hmmm, I don't know," Sophie joked, pretending to contemplate.

Biana's ocean-colored eyes widened, and she pouted her lip.

"Dammit Bi, you know I can't resist the puppy face."

Biana smiled, "Of course I know that's why I did it. Go."

Sophie groaned and stood up, "You owe me for this," She said, continuing her bit.

Biana nodded at her, "Oh I know," She said sarcastically.

Sophie laughed and walked over to the guy. "Hey."

"I was wondering when Biana would send someone over."

Sophie was confused, "Wait, you know Biana?"

The man smiled and blushed a bit, "Not personally, I work with Mr. Vacker and Fitz. They talk about her a lot."

"Wait you work at A. D. V. G. T. A.?"

"Yeah, in the tech department."

"Oh cool."

This was kind of awkward.

"What's your name."

"Oh, I'm Sophie. And you are…?"

"Dexter, I go by Dex. Wait are you Fitz's girlfriend."

Sophie nodded, "Fiancé," she clarified.

"Oh, when did you guys get engaged?"

"The beginning of April, so almost 3 months now."

"Nice," He glanced over Sophies shoulder, "So is she gonna come over here or should I go over to her."

Sophie was confused for a second, "Oh yeah. Sorry," She turned around to face Biana who had now stripped out of her clothes into a bikini and was sitting on a lounge chair with a large new drink. Sophie waved her over. Biana walked over to the edge of the pool and slid in holding her drink up to make sure she didn't get any of the chlorinated pool water in it.

"Hey," she called as she approached.

Dex smiled, "Hi."

Biana set her drink down on the edge off the pool and touched his arm.

Sophie turned away smiling. Dex seemed sweet. Lots of Biana's boyfriends treated her horribly. Sophie knew she was incredibly lucky to have such a supportive fiancé of her own. She had grabbed a drink from the bartender and was looking for a place to sit that faced the ocean and was on the fringes of the party so she could curl up into a little ball and sleep, but that was wishful thinking Fitz's taste in music really was horrible and most of the lounge chairs were by the pool. She finally found one near the guest house and was making her way towards it when Fitz found her.

"Babe, Babe, Soph," Fitz was stumbling towards her very obviously drunk. He had a beer in each hand.

Sophie shook her head. Oh god, this was embarrassing. She set her drink on the lounge chair, "Hey. Why don't we set the beers down and go get some water?"

"That's not how you greet your fiancé," Fitz said loudly ignoring her suggestion. Then he puckered his lips.

Sophie gave him a quick peck on the lips and grabbed the beers, "Lets go get some water." She started steering him towards the water cooler which was near the center of the party.

"No give them back."

"Fitz, you're drunk c'mon, lets go get you some water and go sit down."

"Go to hell," Fitz grabbed one of the beers, nearly knocking Sophie over in the process and almost falling over himself, and took a big swig, "Go to hell," He repeated.

"Fitz come with me," Sophie demanded, everyone around them was staring at them now. Sophie glanced around for Biana's help but she had disappeared from the pool.

"No, don't act like a little bitch, It just a little beer. We should do some dancing" He tried to sexy dance on Sophie, but she backed a step away then he turned and tried to kiss Sophie again, but she backed away more this time.

"Fitz, you are drunk, if you don't come with me to get some water, so help me god, you will sleep on the couch 'til our wedding.

Fitz took another large swig and smirked, "No I won't, you know I won't, c'mon baby, let's go inside." He started running his empty hand down this inside of her thigh.

Sophie blushed slightly from embarrassment but mostly from anger and smacked his hand away "Dammit Fitz, go drink some water and don't find me until you're sober less horny and ready to apologize to me.," Then she grabbed the beer Fitz had taken from her and walked away towards Linh who was on the other side of the pool taking a small sip.

"No, Sophie, come back. I love you. I got you a present." Sophie rolled her eyes ignoring Fitz.

All the sudden there was a huge splash, Sophie turned and saw Fitz's head pop up from under the water. Could this get any worse. She swallowed her pride and bent down to help Fitz out of the pool. She dragged him over to an empty lounge chair.

"Fitz, stay here. I'm getting you some towels, and If I get back and you're gone, so help me god I will… well I don't know what I'll do but you will regret getting up more than you've ever regretted anything in your whole life. Do us both a favor and stay the hell there."

Fitz nodded meekly. This was the first time Sophie had been so mad at Fitz that she literally couldn't even yell, she could only talk to him in a cold low voice. Sure, they had had plenty of fights, but it was mostly Fitz doing the yelling and Sophie doing the walking away to get out of the situation. They had even broken up once in college when they had been dating for only a few months, because Fitz had yelled at her for some stupid thing that she couldn't even remember. She had walked out of his dorm and all they way back to the dorm room she had shared with Biana seething the whole time. When she got back, she had flopped onto her bed and cried herself to sleep. Fitz had woken her up in the morning with a beautiful diamond necklace, Biana had let him in. That was the first time he told her he loved her. But that didn't matter now, she had to go get some towels.

Sophie hurried towards the nearest guest bedroom to get towels from the attached bathroom. How dare Fitz almost knock her over, call her a little bitch and not listen to her, then suggest makeup sex in front of a whole party of people. It was embarrassing and awful. Frankly, it was disgusting. He was sleeping on the couch tonight. Or in the garage. Or maybe, she'd lock him out of the house, and he could sleep on one of the lounge chairs by the pool in damp clothes. She smiled at the thought, but she knew she wasn't brave enough to do that. She flung open the door to the first guest bedroom, "Oh!"
