(A/N) Hello
Bit of a shorter chapter today since I wanted to leave this on a bit of a cliffhanger. Sorry, not sorry!
Anyways I forgot to mention that I'll be updating every Sunday arvo (Aus time) so I have time to write and edit.
I will also leave hints on the next part at the end of each chapter so you have an idea what I'm posting next.
Enjoy...
The party went on for a few more hours, raging and roaring with drunk people scattered around the club.
Marinette swayed in the corner, keeping her distance from the party life itself. Not that she didn't want to have a good time, she was more so concerned of being too intoxicated to transform into ladybug if she had to.
But even if Hawkmoth wasn't as active these days it still paid to be extra alert at all times.
She watched as people began to leave the venue, slowly but surely they coupled off to enjoyed the rest of their night.
Marinette felt a tinge of envy, wishing that she could go home with someone, cuddling them while they whispered sweet praises to her.
She felt so alone when it came to that but then again it was her decision to break it off with Luka all those years ago, so she really couldn't blame anyone else for her failed love life.
Coming back into reality she watched her friend get carried by her boyfriend towards her, smiling and letting out a small laugh behind her hand at how drunk she now looked.
"Please tell him that I need to stay." Alya hiccup. "I set up the whole event, its only fair that I stay til' the end." She whined, hanging off Nino's arm.
"Nope we are taking you home!" Nino protested. "You can't even stand."
Alya shot daggers at her partner, trying to give as much fight as she had left.
"Noooo!" She whined again. "Girl talk him out of it, we need to hook you up with Luka before he runs away again." A small giggle left her lips and she almost fell onto her friend.
Marinette's eyes went wide, along with Nino's at her comment. "Okay babe, you defiantly had enough, let's go!" He began to shuffle towards the door with Alya unable to walk. "I'm so sorry Marinette."
"Its fine." She reasurred her best friends fiance. "You don't need a hand?" Marinette asked, knowing very well how crazy Alya got when she had too much to drink.
Those night were very interesting with only the two of them.
Nino shook his head. "No, you enjoy your night." He strained a smile towards her. "Oh and Happy Birthday."
"Thank you." The bluenette shouted back as she watched her friends walk out the door.
With her best friend gone and most of the people already back at their homes, Marinette decided to call it a night, grabbing her presents her friends had left her and headed out the door.
She waited just outside, calling for a taxi that went by every so often. "Okay, just keep driving then." She grumbled at yet another taxi failing to stop for her.
"Need me to get you a ride?" Luka's voice came from behind, startling the bluenette as she turned his way.
"I'm fine." Marinette said, turning back to wave down another taxi.
"You know there is such thing called an Uber?" Luka stated. "Its quicker and more reliable."
Marinette side glanced him. "Maybe I'm old fashioned, alot has changed since you last saw me."
The man shrugged, walking to her side to call a taxi himself. "I don't think you have changed." He laughed.
Marinette rolled her eyes at how insane that sounded, shuffling from foot to foot and keeping her eye contact on the ground below her.
"How would you know? You haven't been around." Marinette snapped at him. Luka turned her way, a bit shocked she had fired up. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap, I..."
The musician waved it off, turning back to hail a cab again. "You dont need to apologise Marinette, its okay!"
A taxi pulled up at the curb and Luka held the door open so Marinette could get in first.
"Oh shoot." The bluenette screeched subsequently feeling around her body for the lost item. "I forgot my purse." The purse that had Tikki inside. "Go on without me, I'll catch up with you later."
"You sure? I can wait." He gestured to the taxi.
"Yeah you go, I have your number if I have any troubles." She held up her hand with his digits still on her palm.
Luka shook his head and smiled. "Still the same Marinette." He said before getting into the taxi and driving off.
The bluenette rushed back inside, anxious to find her bag that had kept her little kwami safe and protected from the outside world.
But before she could even began her search, strong arms circled her, catching her weight as she made them both plumet to the hard ground below.
"Sorry. I'm so sorry." Marinette squeaked.
"Twice in one night? I think you going for the record on your clumsiness Marinette." The person below laughed, feeling a bit winded from the fall.
The girl glanced down at the person who cushioned her weight, eyes going super wide when she realised who it was.
"A-Adrien." She stammered.
"In the flesh." He wiggled his eyebrow and smirked.
She jumped off him in an instant, apologising endlessly to him. "I'm super sorry, I can't believe... well I can I just didn't think it would be you of all people and I..." she gasped as she realised. "Oh goodness, I must of gave you a bruise from the fall and the wedding." She gasped again. "Your fiance will have my head and I'll have to leave the country and change my name to..."
Adrien grabbed hold of her arms that were flinging around in panic, stilling her movements and trying to calm her down.
"Hey, hey its okay!" The blonde tried to reasurre her. "No harm done, I'm fine."
The bluenette took a shaky breath and relaxed. "You sure?"
"I was a bit surprised but yes I am." He watched as Marinette tensed up again, shifting her focus to the ground. "How about this, you can make it up to me by buying me a drink."
Glancing back up at him, her mouth gaped for a moment. "Y-yeah sure, I uhh..." Marinette looked around the room, trying to remember why she was here in the first place. "Just let me grab my bag and we can see what places are open."
Adrien smiled. "I can help, if you like?"
She nodded and smiled back. "That would be great."
"I found it!" Marinette cheered in victory, crawling down under the food table where she was standing earlier.
She should of known she left Tikki there. It was easy access to the food table and out of sight of the party guess.
Crawling back out from the table, Marinette completely missed the mark of where the edge of it was and whacked the back of her head on the corner.
"Ouch!"
Her hand flew up straight away to feel the damage, worried if it would leave a mark. Gosh she felt so embarrassed when she locked eyes back on the blonde, watching his concerned gaze bore through her very soul.
"Are you okay?" Adrien asked, hesitating to either help put pressure on the soon to be egg on her head or help her up from the floor.
Marinette groaned but got up quickly, her face flushing red as she had done that in front of her former crush.
"I'm okay." She told him. Adrien wasn't convinced but she flew pass him way too fast for him to find out. "Shall we go?"
He didn't bother questioning her further and decided to follow her out the door.
Finding a small bar, hidden away by Paris' beauty, Adrien came back with a beer in his hand, sitting across from the bluenette at a table in the corner.
"Wow! I haven't had a beer in... Forever." Marinette slumped in her seat, throwing back the alcohol and savouring the taste that danced on her tounge.
Marinette was glad she hardly drank back at the party, her taste buds would of been burnt with the potent alcohol Alya was trying to feed her with.
She watched as Adrien focused on her movements, studying the way she process the flavour. "I thought I was the one that was meant to treat you to a drink?"
The blonde laughed and sunk back into his seat finally relaxing himself. "Can't let the birthday girl buy me a drink, plus its my treat."
Marinette wanted to protest but knew better than to argue while she was actually having a good time and finally relaxed with the boy that use to make her heart soar.
"How have you've been anyways?" He asked, curiosity eating away at him. "I didn't get to talk much back at the bar."
"Yeah good." Marinette replied with an unconvincing tone.
"Just good?" Adrien questioned. "I don't believe Marinette Dupain-Cheng is just good. Come on, what ever happen to the girl that chased her dreams and stood up for what she believed in?" He asked dramatically.
The bluenette snorted, taking another sip of her beer. "They were just dreams, silly dreams that will most likely never come true."
Adrien took a swig of his own beer, contemplating on what to say next. "What happened to the Marinette I knew in Lycee? The one that would kill to be a designer." He asked.
"She grew up." She stated back. "Why? What did you even want to do?" She asked, veering the conversation off her failed life goals.
"Truth?" He asked and Marinette nodded back. "I wanted to be a physics teacher."
"Then why don't you." She leant forward to hear more intensely. "You would be a great teacher. You were really smart at physics."
Adrien chuckled, but it wasn't convincing. "I wish I could, but its not what I'm expected to do." He stated, a bit upset he couldn't pursue his dream cause his father still had a leash tied to him at twenty five. "I'm expected to be the perfect son, Model, then take over the company when my modelling years are over."
"Thats horrible." Marinette placed her hand on top of his, concerned for her friend. For once she didn't do flips with just that simple touch.
"Its okay, at least I know I'm covered for the next 10 years." He laughed it off by himself.
Silence fell over them for a few moments. Marinette had no idea what to say to that, she felt bad for her friend that was stuck in the worse situation and here she was complaining about not meeting her life goals.
Gosh she felt like an asshole.
"So how long are you in Paris for?" Marinette asked, veering away from the previous conversation.
Adrien perked up from her question, meeting her eyes. "Only a few weeks, Nino wanted to go suit shopping and since I was in town I thought It was the perfect time." Adrien took a sip of his beer and smiled. "I feel bad being the best man and not being around much for it though."
"Nino understands." She reasurred. "Plus I rather be partnered up with you than his teenage brother." Marinette laughed and Adrien joined in.
"It doesn't stop Lila for having a thing for him though."
Marinette choked on her drink from that comment, tears escaping her eyes as she tried to laugh but was struggling to breathe at the same time.
"Oh my." *cough* "that was." *cough* "awful!"
The blonde quickly got out of his seat to help her breathe again but as air entered her lungs she started laughing out loud, the tears lightly flowing down her cheeks unexpectedly.
"I know its not funny." She still laughed. "I shouldn't be laughing." She couldn't stop. "That's just an awful image."
Adrien was chuckling softly as well, mostly to himself. Without thinking he reached up and wiped a stray tear off her cheek.
Immediately Marinette stopped her laughter and looked at him shocked. Feeling her heart stop from just that little touch he made.
"Sorry." He said quickly, moving back down into his seat and picking up his beer again.
"No, no, its fine." She reassured. "Just took me by surprise."
He smiled at her. "I'm full of surprises."
She snorted, trying to hold in another round of laughter from escaping. "Really now." Marinette challenged.
"Why? You want to know some?" He challenged back.
The bluenette shook her head and took another sip of her beer. "Nothing about you surprises me." She stated. "Guess that's why I fell for you in the first place."
Marinette held the beer to her lips and relaxed back into her seat before she noticed the stunned and silent Adrien across from her.
"You had a crush on me?" He hesitantly asked.
"Oh come on, you knew." She laughed it off, noticing his face hadn't budged to match her laughter. "Everyone in Lycee knew I was head over heels for you."
The blonde shook his head, still stunned with only finding out just now that all this time she liked him more than just a friend.
Gosh he felt stupid.
"Adrien I..." She stopped herself before she said anything else stupid and ruin the night even more.
They both settled in their seats, silence eating away at them while they finished their beverage.
The blonde called his driver to pick him up and offered Marinette a ride back to her apartment on the way. It was only fair he made sure she got home safely.
She hesitated to go with him after she had just made a fool of herself earlier. But Marinette knew that if she didn't he would wait around with her.
No matter how awkward the situation was.
The silence continued in the limo, both looking down at their laps and feeling a mixture of emotions of what happened just a few short moments ago.
"Adrien, forget that I said anything, i'm-"
Before she could finish Adrien's lips were on hers, his hand careness her cheek and his body leaned into her as much as he possibly could.
He broke the kiss off after a few seconds, panting and looking at her with heavy eyelids. Adrien felt bad for surprising her like that but he needed to see for himself what could have been if he wasn't an idiot all those years ago.
Immediately Marinette lounged back in to his touch and connected her lips back onto his. She licked his bottom lip for entrance, begging to be molded into him as much as she could.
He granted her that entrance and kissed her passionately back. holding the back of head lightly and gliding his fingers through her blue/black hair.
All that longing and pent up emotions came out all at once. She could almost cry in bliss with how much love she was feeling right now.
