Alice's eyes opened and she straightened herself, her back ached again and her still damp hair was plastered to her shoulders. "Hmm?" She hummed, looking around the cave. A dream? The girl stood and walked over to the boulder, there was no more light and the sound of rain had stopped. "Who was that girl?" She pushed the boulder out of the way and stepped into the cool night air.
Alice.
"What do you want now?" Alice asked, crossing her arms as she glared up at the ivory moon.
The night is not safe. The spirit warned, it's tone carried and edge of urgency.
"Oh please I am NOT afraid of the dark." The girl ignored the voice as she walked through the trees. She didn't receive any other response, so she deemed it's word to be unimportant. Stars twinkled in the black canvas above, their light was dim yet still reflected elegantly off of her crystal blue eyes. The air was cool but not cold, the grass was damp beneath her feat and and the tree's occasionally would rain red leaves onto the ground. It was pretty, so far this whole world had been pretty actually, Alice found she could make a home here if she had the resources. "Resources." She repeated to herself, she stopped and pulled her axe out of her backpack. More wood would be a good idea, I definitely don't want to punch a tree again so good thing I have this axe. It only took a swift wack for her to collect more logs, Alice repeated this action a few times until she felt she had enough.
Stone.
"Hm?" Alice turned to the foot of the mountain, she smiled and got her pickaxe ready.
WHACK WHACK WHACK SNAP.
The pickaxe broke in record time, this had Alice frustrated until she realized she might be able to make a new one out of stone. A few minutes later and BOOM, she had a new pickaxe. I could replace all of my tools with stone. The girl packed her things away and turned around, but froze as she watched something move in the distance. Something tall and black hid among the tree-line, it's long slender limbs pulled a chunk of dirt out of the ground as it turned to face her. Sapphire eyes locked with magenta orbs, two seconds passed, then the creature suddenly let out a chilling screech. Alice gasped as it disappeared in a puff of lavender pixels and reappeared half way to her, she turned and darted further towards the mountains. Heart racing the girl quickly learned she could barely out run this foe, the thing teleported around until it finally landed a hit on her torso sending her flying. Her body hit the ground and rolled sending pain through her as cuts and bruises formed on her soft skin. The thing screeched again, it got ready to strike her when out of nowhere another figured emerged from the tree line and slashed the thing with a battle cry. Alice winced and hugged her legs to her chest as the man fought the thing, she watched him hit it's legs with a strange cyan sword which seemed to make it not able to teleport.
The monster fell to the ground and the stranger ended it with a final whack. It exploded into purple mist and left behind a stack of dirt blocks and one flower. Panting the man collected the items and turned to face Alice.
"Are you okay-" He stopped suddenly and his cheeks went red. "Uhhhh..."
"I- I'm fine, thank you." She answered as she stood, dusting herself off she looked up at him and watched as he backed away. "What's wrong?" Alice asked.
"You're naked." The stranger pointed out as he shielded his eyes. Alice looked down at herself, examining her pale skin with a few cuts and a forming bruise or two. She looked really hard, then looked back at him, taking into consideration that his body was covered and hers was not.
"Oh." She said. "Am I supposed to be covered?"
"Do you know what clothes are?" He asked.
Alice had to think for a moment. Yup she definitely knew what clothes were, she just hadn't considered the possibility that it was odd that she wasn't wearing them- Nor did she feel any shame at being looked at. "Huh, I guess I just hadn't thought of it." She smiled and did her best to cover herself with her arms. "I have a backpack?" She tried to justify.
"Everyone starts out with a backpack... Alright, I guess I can't blame you, it also took me a while to realize I needed clothes when I first woke up here." He gestured for her to follow and he started walking. "By the way, my names John."
"My name is Alice, it's nice to meet you!"
"How long have you been here?" He asked.
"I'm not sure, I woke up in the woods yesterday and traversed a field, then a huge thunderstorm came and I hid in a cave. Fell asleep there and now I'm here, talking to you." She reached her hand out to brush a stray branch as she walked.
"Ah, okay, so you are very new to this world then. I'm guessing you're hungry and in need of supplies?" A zombie came running at John from the dark and he dealt with the monster with one solid blow. It too exploded into mist, though this time it was green and it only dropped rotting flesh.
"Food would be wonderful yes, but I already have tools, wood, and stone." They soon approached a cobblestone and spruce cottage sat atop a hill free of any tree's.
"You already have supplies? That's impressive for a newcomer!" John sounded mildly astounded at Alice's skill. "How did you manage that?"
"The spirit told me what to do." She responded with a smile.
"Wha?"
They stepped up to the door and John pressed a button on the wall, which made the door slide open like magic. "It'll only stay open for a few seconds so hurry inside."
"This place seems a little exposed, don't you think?" Alice asked cautiously as she followed John inside.
"I don't think you can talk about feeling exposed, chick." He said as he walked into a hall and disappeared into an unknown room. After a few seconds he walked out carrying a neatly folded white fabric. "Here, I used some of my spare wool to make you this." He handed it to her and upon unfolding it she found it was a plain sleeveless white dress that ended at her knees.
"This is cute." Alice complemented as she pulled the thing over her head. John was facing away from her. Finally she got it on and smiled at him, he stole a peek and smiled back when he found she was now properly clothed. "Do I get armor like you have?" Alice asked.
"I don't have enough supplies to craft you anything else, I'll go mining tomorrow to pick up some iron and diamond." John walked into the kitchen and began taking items from an enchanted barrel. Alice sat down on the couch as she watched him work. "Does mushroom stew and milk sound okay?" John asked as he lead up some mushrooms.
"I don't know, I haven't actually gotten the chance to sample anything." She was smiling brightly. "Anything is fine." John nodded and began preparing them a meal. It took a surprisingly small amount of time for him to finish making the food, Alice was starting to question things more and more. "John?"
"Hm?"
"What is this world? Why did I wake up in the woods naked with a backpack and a phantom voice telling me what to do?" John sat down and handed her a bowl, setting two glasses of milk on the dark oak coffee table.
"Well I and the others just called this world Minecraftia, we all spawn in naked with a backpack and no memory and I have no idea why you're hearing voices in your head."
"Wait, there are others?" Alice jumped slightly when the soup burnt her tongue, she then decided it'd be better to blow on it before eating.
"Yup, some that are newer and some that have been here for centuries..." He paused to think. "Or so I've been told."
"That's really interesting-" A THUNK on the door made the girl flinch again. "What was that?" She looked around frantically.
"Hey it's okay! It's probably just a zombie, they aren't smart enough to open doors or strong enough to break blocks."
"Oh..." Alice finished her soup, she set the empty bowl on the table and chugged half of her milk. "Ahh that was good." She stretched and relaxed, John yawned as he finished his food as well.
"Eh it's late, I'm gonna go to sleep. Let me show you your room." He took the now empty dishes into the kitchen and placed them in the sink, then turned and waved for her to follow. "You'll be sleeping in the guest room, I haven't had any visitors in a few weeks so you don't have to worry about it being dirty or anything." Alice followed him and stepped into the room he gestured to, it was just accross the hall from his room. The house was pretty small, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and one other room that Alice didn't know what was for.
"What's that room?" She asked and pointed to the plain looking door with a big lock on it.
"That's my treasure room, it's where I keep really important things." He clicked his tongue, squinting. "And my cake."
Alice watched the door carefully, her attention only broken when John stepped into his own room. "Goodnight." He said. "Call me if you need anything." He closed his door with a kind smile, leaving Alice to examine her new room. It was plain, quaint even, the carpet was a deep maroon just like in the rest of the house, the bed was white and looked plush. Happily Alice flopped down onto the bed, not caring if she was getting dirt or grass on it, she rolled around and wrapped herself up in the blankest like a burrito. As she lay there she recollected on the past days events, how she'd woken up in a forest randomly and how she was chased by a zombie in the rain... And about John, he was being super nice to her even though she was a total stranger. She thought about how he complimented her, she was special and she knew it... These thoughts clouded her mind as darkness seeped it, her cheeks warm as she pressed them into the soft pillows.
