Case Interlude The Pale Man

I am helping Ms. Knight to my couch as Jason was out getting Bobby. The night has taken Gotham and I hear traces of the true city I live in. I ask to a shaken Ms. Knight "Would you like something to drink? I have some water, juice, or Tea. Sadly, if you want hot tea, I will need to heat some up." Ms. Knight shakes her head, and I can tell she must feel horrible for what she has done. Ms. Knight says "Thank you for stopping me. I know I should have stopped when I turned those flowers into diamonds I just."

She stops and sadness fills her, and I put a hand on her shoulder. She looks me in the eye for the first time since the fight. I say "It wasn't your fault you just fell to the temptation of those powers. Heck the last guy that is stopped was a salesman that was mad he got passed up for a promotion. When he got one of those, he tried to destroy the company after two uses of it. Now he lives in Central City and works as a carpenter. He loves it. I get a letter from him every week thanking me." Ms. Knight smiles a little. I put my hand away and

My phone rings in my pocket and I see it's Renee and I answer it by says "Yes?" I hear some noises, but the voice of Officer Montoya says "Hey just to give you a heads up on your cases but those people that were turned to diamonds turned back to people. Also, I will not ask why a bench in front of a certain crime bosses' home is destroyed. Look just thanks for taking care of it again Magnus." I say "No problem. I'll let you get back to it."

I cancel the call and say, "Well it seems the people you know when that happened have turned back to normal." Ms. Knight is full of joy. That must have weight down on her. I smile and say "Now since you're in a better mood I'm going to ask how you got that stick of power you had. It's just so I can learn who has been making these and selling them." Ms. Knight nods and says "It's fine. I never got your name. You must think it so silly to not ask for your name."

A smile adorns my face and I say "It's okay. My name is Magnus Mooney. I'm a private detective. Now my first question would be are you okay?" She nods and says "I know what I did was wrong, but I just need to keep those thought away. I may need to move if Roman find out I'll-." I cut her off and say "Don't worry about it I'll just need to make a few calls but all you would need to do is change your last name. So don't worry about it just know I'll make sure your safe."

Ms. Knight has a shock look in her eyes and she just asks "Why? I'm just a stranger to you and you would help. So why?" A smile appears on my face but with a hint of sadness. I take off my fedora and say "I love this city Ms. Knight. The sad thing about this city is that it can destroy anyone who lives here. Now when I was younger, I thought I had it rough but some kid younger than me and gave me his toy. I ask why he did that and he said I needed it more than him. This kid looked rougher than me. A kid worse off than me helped me. So, I vowed to help the people in this city even if they need to leave. I rather help the people than this city. I know I can't save this city as I am, but I sure can help the people. Even if you're a stranger you deserve more than what this city can take from you."

Ms. Knight smiles and says, "Thank you." I give her a smile and ask "Can you tell me how you got that Gaia Memory? That stick that gave you power." Ms. Knight nods and takes out a note. She says as I open it "I found that with that Gia Memory as you called it in my mail one day." The note says {If you want the power to help your son use it. You'll know how to use it}. How did they know she could use one?

The salesmen last year that I found told me it was just a guess. If they couldn't use it give them a heart attack and die. They must have found a way to use it. Well, I'll need to investigate this more. Right now, I need to help Ms. Knight possible disappear. I say to MS. Knight "thank you for showing this to me. Tonight, I'll let you stay here while I make some calls to help you and Bobby. Before you say anything, I want to help you. Even if Roman doesn't find out you were the one attacking his places if anyone of his enemies find out about Bobby that is just as dangerous." Ms. Knight nods and my door opens to me hearing "Mommy!"

I see the child that missed his mom embraces her as she starts crying in tears of joy. A giant smile takes my face and I pick up my fedora. I say "Well I'll let you be with your son Ms. Knight. When you're tired either you or Bobby take my room to sleep in. If you're hungry I have some in my little kitchen. I'll talk to you guys in the morning." I take the photo of Ms. Knight with her baby son out of my blazer and sit it down on my table.

I motion for Jason to follow me as I go upstairs to Selina's apartment. As I open the door Jason asks "So what was the thing you did when you fought Bobby's Mom. It looked like you turned into a power ranger." Ughh I don't need to be called a power ranger I'm a Kamen Rider. That sound cooler than power ranger. When I open the door, I'm greeted by a few cats and Jason asks, "Who's apartment are we in?" Yeah, from one look with all the art pieces look like that fancy art pieces. The rest seem like not much wealth but not my style.

I say "This is my upper neighbor's place. She is out of town for some time but I'm checking up on her cats." I then go through the process of feeding her cats and checking all the things like the litter. I say "what you saw me do was use a device I found called the lost driver. It was the same time I had my first Dopant case. Now I will not tell you how I got that. Let's just say I don't want to talk about it. Still the lost driver had some Gaia Memories with it. There was a note telling me how to use it. I become Kamen Rider Skull. I learned that it gave me better reflexes, made me stronger, and I can take more of a beating. It also gives me an advantage against Dopant's. My theory it was made to stop them. So that is what that power ranger thing you called it."

As I finish, I ask Jason "Do you want to see something cool? Look if I show you this you can't tell anyone. The police only know that I can take care of them." He looks at me and say, "I know I should be more cautious but since you helped Bobby, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt." I nod and we head to the last level of this four floored building. I take out my key for the first floor. We enter a pitch-black place and I flip some switches to a big garage with two vehicles.

One is a tank that looks like the front part of the car body is shaped like a huge skeleton, with a T-shaped anchor-like Front Bumper at its tip and a huge engine unit with many mufflers connected to the rear part of the car body. That is the SkullGarry. The next is-. My thoughts are interrupted by Jason yelling "That's a Honda CBR1000RR." He runs up to my modified motorcycle called SkullBoilder. It's all black with a red line on the side that makes a w in a way.

I say "I thought you would be more interested in the tank. So, you like motorcycles?" He nods and I ask, "You want to know why I showed you this?" Jason looks away from my bike and says "Yeah. We just met today, and you show me this. So how come?" A thought of me back in his age comes back and I say "You remind me a little about myself. Let me guess you live alone?" He nods and I say "I can tell. I lived alone too when I was your age. Also, because under that glare is a good kid. You could have just ignored Bobby, but you were going to waste the few bits of dollars to hire someone to find his mom."

I go to one of the work benches I have on the side and open a drawer that has some spare keys. I take them and say to Jason "So I want to offer you a job that pays in food." Jason looks at me wondering what I said and asks, "How come your paying me in food?" I chuckle a little and say "If I offer you money you would treat it like pity money. Also, I can guess you are too stubborn to be paid for just helping me on some cases if I need it." Jason laughs and says "Yeah I would have said no if you paid me. So, what would I be doing?"

I smirk and it seems he is taking the job. I say "Well you can give me info at Crime Ally if any Dopant cases come. Also, I could use someone to help me when I need to be in two places at once. You could learn some things as well. So, you accept the agreement?" He looks at me than the tank and asks, "Can I drive the tank at least once?" I sigh but nod and say "Only if I'm in trouble. Would you make it back home safe?" He nods but I say "There is a back room with a cot in the back. Sleep on that tonight. I got some calls to make." Jason looks to say no but sighs and head back to the back room.

When he goes to the back room, I take my phone out and call someone. He is going to give me crap, but I need to call him. I say when he answers "Yes Mr. Kaye. Yeah, I'm going to need your help once more." My eyes go to an old photo of me with my mom on one of my work benches.

The next day

I was outside my building at the street helping Ms. Knight and Bobby take their luggage into the nice car to take them to the airport. Jason got their bag this morning and I'm handing Ms. Knight an envelope. I say "This is some money to help you till you find a new job. Remember your new name is Tina Miller. You're from Star City." A giant smile is on her face and she hugs me while saying "Thank you so much Mr. Mooney. I can't thank you enough for helping us. Take care now." I nod and see Bobby saying goodbye to Jason.

They enter the car and I wave to them. As they leave sight Jason asks, "Should I even ask how you gave them a new identity or just stay quiet?" I smirk while taking off my fedora and say "I'll keep that secret close to me Jason. Still, I'll say I have officially finished your case. Now I'll ask every time I finish a case to my clients. Did I do good?" Jason shakes his head and say "Yeah you did good Magnus. Well, I should get back home." I nod my head and head inside.

A few days later

It's a Wednesday and I was in my waiting area with Jason reading Pride and Prejudice. I was watching the news as I was writing some ideas on where the GMs could be coming from. I sigh and put my little note pad down. Nothing new or any new cases. I then hear from the anchor women on the news say "Breaking news. After the Joker was transported in the middle transport the Joker has escaped. He killed an officer and crippled the other two on his way to Arkham. This is a city-wide warning that the Joker is out there once again. We advise you to stay indoors and don't leave your home."

In these moments the giant city of Gotham is silent. Out of all the madmen this city has saw he is the only one to make this city quiet. Even the other supervillains don't try to do much when this happens. The clown prince of crime is out there, and I think we all pray that Batman gets him soon. I say to Jason "You're staying in the garage tonight Jason." He nods. Even the normal stubborn people of Crime Ally know not to mess with his possible eyes to land on them.

I turn the tv off and take my Gaia Memory skull out of my white blazer and put it in my suitcase. If I go out, I can't have the possibility of losing it. When I finish, I just go to my desk to find something to keep my mind busy.

Nighttime

The night has taken Gotham and it stay quiet. There are the people who may have not heard the news or the brave to go out tonight but most of Gotham stays Quiet. I just watch the window to the city from my desk. I feel helpless in when he gets out. I know that I can't find him just as quick as Batman. I would just be getting in the way.

As I watch the city an explosion happens a few blocks away. I see from a distance where the explosion was. My fist clenches. I should not go. Sadly, my feet moved on their own and I grab the keys to my bike. When I get down there, I yell "Jason I'm going out there!" Jason who was reading his book looks shocked and ask "Your what? Why?" I stop and clench my fist as I say "I know I can't take the Joker on as me and if I go out there as Skull I would possible make what I do public. So, I'm not going out there to stop the Joker. I'm going there to make sure the people get out of there while Batman takes him out." Jason nods and says, "You better not get killed or I'll fucking kill you Magnus."

I nod and get on my bike. I open the door and put my fedora in a place to hold it. I drive off to make sure those people don't get hurt.

Harleen POV a few minutes later

I was staring at the barrel of the gun pointed at my face. I should have not gone drinking with her tonight. He would not show up Harleen. Your being paranoid. My life flashes in front of me and my mistakes. I regret not finishing my theory on stress environments. His giant grin haunts me to my core as the pale man laughs. Before he could pull the trigger someone in a white blazer with a white fedora kicks the gun away from the Joker. He then punches the Joker a few feet away from me.

I just stand still in shock as I can't think of someone punching the fucking Joker. I hear him say some words to some people. Then in a second, he is back in front of me. I notice his green eyes that seem to calm me down from just looking at them. His white blazer is gone now but he still has that fedora on. He asks, "Can you move?" I nod but before I can I see the Joker moving to us.

Magnus POV

I see the blonds' eyes widen and I turn around to see some destroyed cars and Batman punching some giant guys that tower over him. The thing that sticks out the most is Joker heading to me. Crap I just gave a speech to Jason I can't take on the Joker. Well, I'll just stall so Batman can take the guy down. I turn to the blond and say, "Here hold this and get out of here." I put my fedora hat on her head and walk to the madman.

I don't think I ever seen true madness till I looked him in the eyes. He walks up and has a bloody nose from me punching him in his face. He says "That was a good punch. Now I would just shoot you put this bullet is not for you. So, it's just now garbage." He flings the gun away and takes out a knife.

In a span of a second, he rushes me, and he goes to stab me in my left shoulder. I grab his wrist with my left hand. I sadly could not put the knife to far away from me when it makes a gash on my shoulder. I hold his arm as I use my right arm to slam his elbow. He says as I do this "Hey no grabbing. No fare." He then uses his other arm to punch me in the ribs.

I then grab his arm with both of my hand and kick him away in the chest. When I do that, I hear his shoulder get dislocated. He laughs as I let his arm go. He says "well you got some skill. Now no mister since guy." Then he uses his other hand to throw something at me. All I know is I'm now bleeding in a few places. Well time to rush him.

I rush him and get some more wounds but tackle him. He is faster than me and punches me in the face. I just grab his throat. He still laughs and I feel him stop punching me. I let go but then a shocking feeling goes through my body as I flop away from the Joker. My face and body are facing down as I feel like I can't move. He laughs and I hear him say "You do love me bats. Saving me from the big bad pedestrian." I look up to see Batman. He just punches him to the road and the Joker lands a few inches away from me. His eyes stare at me and he says "So what's your name? I'm Joker."

I say "Danny DeVito." He just laughs and Batman takes him away. I just hear him say "I like you Danny boy. Hahahahahahahahahah!" His laugh haunts my dreams for years to come. The only thought I have at the moment was how lucky I am from not dying. In the future I think I should be mad at Batman for tasing me, but I would have tased me in his shoes.

After I get the ability to move again, I look at my surroundings to see the chaos Joker made. Heck it seems one of his goons was killed. I look to find the blonde with glasses but don't see her. Well, that's good that means she made it to safety. Well, I have extra white blazers but will need to buy some extra fedoras. I look to my shoulder to see a playing car is what the Joker throw at me. Well hopefully Dr. Thompkins does give me a very long lecture. I then go walking to my bike and make my way to her clinic. She is a good doctor.

Next day afternoon

When I went to her clinic, I got a mouthful and some stitches. I let Jason go home and, I'm in my office, just sitting on my couch with an ice pack to my face. I will shop tomorrow for my hat. As I stare at the ceiling the bell to my door rings, and I look to see that blonde from last night. She is holding my shite fedora and she looks at me. She says "It's you. I came here to thank you for saving my life and come return this to you." I smile and ask, "What your name?" She smiles and says "Dr. Harleen Quinzel." I smile and get up to say "Magnus Mooney."

Well, I hope you guys like this and since there is no case it's an in-between of cases. Also, I took the meeting of the Joker from the comic Harleen. Read it. It's good. So please leave review. Goodbye
