It was lunch. Jaune and I were eating some pizza we bought from the cafeteria and sitting at table gatherers from anyone. The pizza was okay, but who can complain anyway? Jaune and I were analyzing the situation of the cafeteria lunchroom to see if anything was new or had changed this year.

Allow me to say if anything changed, then my cousin and I would be able to spot it after all the years of people watching and the fact Jaune got a good-ass memory which I have to say is dope.

Hehe, dope anyway. The first two or three weeks, Jaune and I just ignored the freshman coming into school as they still haven't gotten into the rhythm of returning to school. So far, the school was pretty standard as kids giving me and my cousin space as they didn't know us, which was suitable for Jaune, while for me, I say at least I got some room.

Anyway, just like any hierarchy, the Popular people were sticking together, normies, otakus, goths, emos, etc. The norm of high school was established, and everyone went on with their lives.

"Well, Jaune seems like it going to be the same old same old as last year." I said as I chewed my pizza which Jaune nodded.

"Yep, just us being alone to our own devices." Jaune said while taking a bite of his pizza as well as taking a swig of his soda.

I sigh as hanging out with my cousin has been my routine since sophomore year. Now both of us being seniors, I don't mind. Though sometimes I want to have other friends; the problem with that is they would try to coax Jaune into coming along.

I will be honest. I don't know why Jaune doesn't like hanging out with other people, but he doesn't mind hanging out with me. I guess it's because I am family, or I don't try to force him into interaction with other people like my aunt and uncle.

I mean, I try to help Jaune not be antisocial, but the only progress I made was him coming with me to go amusement parks, cons, and going on runs at the park, or going to karaoke places unless it's not crowded or it's dark out.

I sighed and started finishing my lunch which Jaune did the same. Both of us then grabbed our bags from under the table, swung them onto our backs, and headed out.

Jaune and I made our way out, moving and shifting away from people walking in our direction, and headed to the yard.

Allow me to say the schoolyard was big, and it's able to accommodate everyone, enough to ensure that anyone could get at least a spot to sit.

Jaune and I chose to sit at the bleachers at the baseball field since it was less occupied than people tend to believe. I mean, people here tend to avoid places that involve school or learning.

"Well, it looks like we are alone," I said, and I placed my bag on one of the seats and then lay on and put my hoodie on.

"Indeed we are," Jaune said and put his headphones on and started listening to some music and lay down his bag and lay on it. Jaune then covers his face from the sun and starts humming to the song but not enough to be noticed.

Now, you are wondering why you choose this spot. Well, not a lot of people pass by here, and even if they did, nobody would notice us, so yeah. Hanging out in the bleachers with my cousin became my daily routine, and I don't mind.

So a week after our lunch and getting back to the rhythm of school life, things got complicated…

'Trouble.'

Something pretty bad or worse, but as long as it didn't get Jaune noticed, it was okay, I guess...

But things tend to diverge...

Naturally, most people would be happy for the school day to end on a Friday so they could go home.

Which was typical; I mean, why not be happy to leave school on Friday.

Unfortunately, not today.

Why?

Simple.

Our counselor.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind going since it's not all bad, plus I went to therapy, but for Jaune, he is iffy with going to the counselor.

I mean, our counselor is kind of that person you see at the same place when you go somewhere; you greet them, maybe trade some small talk and then leave when you can.

Now typically, when most people think of a counselor, they think of someone sensitive and kind.

Sadly, that was NOT the case with Ms. Glynda Goodwitch.

I will be honest that woman is stern and strict. I don't get why she was in high school when she could get a disciplinarian job. Jaune and I asked God what Principal Ozpin was thinking when putting that woman in the counselor program. I opted to believe she got that job because she was fucking Principal Ozpin, but I highly doubted.

Anyway, whenever me and Jaune got to her office, we just told her we were okay and nothing to be worried about. Jaune and I tend to put up the clueless high school student stereotype hoping it would get Goodwitch off our ass; sadly, that was not the case.

It turns out she watched Jaune and me when we were at lunch for the past week and noticed how we never talked with anyone except each other. It bothered her because Ms. Goodwitch was friends with my aunt Joan. I would say I would relate to my aunt a bit being outgoing and sociable, while Jaune was the polar opposite of Aunt Joan.

I mean, I don't blame Jaune since Aunty Joan and Uncle John try to push him to be like them. I will be honest I would like Jaune to socialize but not to the extent that he feels uncomfortable, which my aunt and uncle are doing, causing him to push them away.

I am lucky that Jaune hasn't pushed me away because, to be frank, I am the only one who understands and respects his wishes not to socialize.

Anyway, she called my aunt and uncle, who said they knew, which she didn't like and blah blah and all that bull crap.

So pretty much in the end, my aunt and uncle were getting called to talk to our counselor about getting Jaune and me more involved in general life which I don't mind, but for Jaune, he was absolutely furious.

On Friday, Jaune and I waited in Ms. Goodwitch's office. I like to say before I go any; further, I want to point out after school was over. Jaune was planning to ditch and asked me to give a cover story saying he didn't feel well. Sadly, that was not going to work as we got picked up by the school security guard to take us into her office.

Allow me to say Jaune was pissed. Luckily I managed to calm him down for a bit. While in the office, we were doing our thing: reading some stories, manga, and comics and played some video games on our Ipads.

After a couple of minutes of waiting in the office aunty, Joan walked through the door and greeted us. "Hey, kids," Aunty said which Jaune looked at Aunty with an angry face while I was waving hello to her.

Before I could say anything to aunty where Uncle John was, Jaune beat me to it.

"Dad ditched, didn't he?" Jaune said with a scowl that would make anyone see how pissed off he was.

Aunty nodded while hiding a smirk which I sighed, knowing things will be a shit storm with Jaune and aunty.

'Mom, dad, if you are up in heaven, please ask god this would not get ugly between Jaune and Auntie Joan.' I prayed, hoping nothing wrong happens.

Anyway, Jaune was pissed and started to groan.

"Goddammit." Jaune said, exceedingly displeased, "Well, whatever, let's get this stupid talk over with."

Auntie sighed, "You could at least make an effort to make friends."

Jaune rolled his eyes, "Mom, you said you'd back off, so, please. Back off." He said, very annoyed and pissed.

I hit Jaune behind the head, which made him yelp in pain and. "Dude, that is your mom, my aunt," I said, furious at Jaune for disrespecting her.

"Jaune, I know this sucks but, please bear with it," I said, which Jaune sighed and rubbed his head.

Anyway, after that debacle, Ms. Goodwitch coughed into her hand, "Ahem, Mr. Arc, Mr. River, both of you behave."

Jaune scratched the back of his head, slipping back into my clueless persona, "Ah, sorry then. Oh, and call me Jaune, Mr. Arc is my dad, plus it makes me sound old."

"Same here, call me Charles, and before you ask why not Kai, I only let my cousin or family call me that," I said.

Goodwitch narrowed her eyes on us as well as mad as she didn't like the fact Jaune and I had been lying about who we were for the past three years.

I will say I can't blame her, but in all honesty, sometimes it is better to keep some things to ourselves.

"So Glynda," my aunt cut in, "what is the problem?"

As those words came out of my aunty's mouth, I knew shit would start soon, so I slowly backed away from Jaune.

"Jaune is not spending time with any of his peers, and his teachers noticed that he chooses to go solo in all of his projects and is alone practically all the time. While Charles he is sort of the same, except he only does projects with Jaune. While I had not notice, Mr. Arc - as in Jaune's father or Charle's uncle and your husband - had called and informed me of their slight loner status and said - and I quote - No son or nephew of mine should ever go through high-school without experience the pleasure of making out with a hot girl and having a fun time while also being a rebellious teen towards his family.'" She said, lips twitching as though about to smile.

I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. "Tito, why?!" I groaned while Jaune's jaw just dropped in shock.

I turned towards my aunt and saw she began to giggle into her hand after hearing that quote from Tito.

"I am going to murder him," Jaune growled while trying to calm him down.

"Jaune, please don't. Even though he can be an idiot, he is still your dad and my uncle," I said while Jaune continued to fume in anger.

Anyway, after Aunt Joan stopped laughing, she took a deep breath to compose herself and smiled, "So what would you suggest, Glynda?"

"Well, Jaune, Charles, do you two want to join any clubs or extracurricular activities?" Glynda asked, pulling out a file that was titled 'clubs.'

"Maybe, but no thanks, I am good. I like hanging out with my cousin more." I said which Glynda.

"Not in the slightest," Jaune mumbled, calculating and scheming to strangle Uncle John.

"Jaune, stop planning to strangle your dad." Mom reprimands, shooting Jaune a sharp look.

"How did you-" Aunty cuts Jaune off.

"Women's intuition," Aunty said with a smile on her face.

"Of course." I sighed and nodded.

Women's intuition indeed.

After what seemed like several hours of Jaune arguing, which in my opinion was just him being whiny and petty, which in all honesty, Jaune is not above being petty to someone. Anyway, through all the arguing, Jaune managed Glynda for a compromise of sorts.

"Since you adamantly refuse to do anything that has to do with social interaction, I am putting you and your cousin on the list for student guide." She said, which made me and Jaune confused.

"What the heck is that?" I asked, which Jaune asked as well. "I never heard of that type of guide. The only guides that I know of are the teacher that leads visiting groups of kids and occasional student council members tagging along." Jaune said, which I nodded.

Glynda pushed her glasses up her nose as she passed me a file, "Occasionally, we have an exceedingly bright student. They have their schedule changed and join the higher classes, basically someone who skips a grade. Since we just happen to have one student who we believe should graduate into the senior class rather than the sophomore class, I am going to delegate her guidance to you and your cousin."

My mom smiled, "That sounds low-key enough for you, Jaune. Not only that, Kai, this might be a good way to meet new people."

Jaune and I looked at each other and agreed she was right. Showing some person around and then getting to know them for a bit was not a bad idea. After all, once it was over, the person could just run into the hell that was high school.

Jaune and I both agreed this seemed like a good idea. I mean, I get to meet someone new, and Jaune doesn't need to take any clubs or activities. Now the only problem is who would be the person we are guiding.

I turn to Jaune, and he nodded which then I look at Glynda. "So who is it?" I asked, a bit curious who Jaune and I would be guiding.

"Ruby Rose," Glynda said with a smile.

Jaune's jaw dropped while I facepalm.

"And that breaks the camel's back," I said, groaning as shit has hit the fan.

"No! NO! Please, god, no! Anyone but her, please not her! Why of all people, to be a guide to for my cousin and me, it has to be her!" Jaune said, begging on his knees not to take her.

Glynda then looks shocked at how Jaune is acting and turns towards me, and I sighed.

"Ms. Goodwitch, if it were just me, I wouldn't mind, though. If it's both Jaune and me, yeah, bad idea." I said, which still confused Glynda. "What is wrong with Miss Rose?" She asked which Jaune explained the problem.

"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHOSE LITTLE SISTER SHE IS?!" Jaune cried, "YEARS OF MY PEACEFUL AND QUIET LIFESTYLE WILL BE UTTERLY DESTROYED!" Jaune said, screaming which I then put my hand over his mouth to make him stop screaming.

"Jaune, calm yourself, and also, Ms. Goodwitch, please reconsider someone else," I asked very nicely, hoping she would change her mind.

"Jaune, Charles, I am a bit confused about what the problem is with Ms. Xiao Long. What could she possibly do to both of you?" Glynda asked as she looked at both of us, who still looked puzzled at why we, well, technically just Jaune, not wanting to be a guide for Ruby.

I let go of Jaune, which he calms down and takes a deep breath, "Overprotective does not even BEGIN to describe how much she cares for Ruby!" Jaune said, to which I agreed and nodded.

"Yep, I would describe as a woman who is not scared to put someone in the ground. I mean, it's bad enough that Yang coddles her sister. Poor Ruby has had no

male contact as a freshman, now that she'll be in the senior class. Yang would do everything she can and more to probably castrate any guy or girl who might accidentally breach her breathing space!" I said, which Jaune added more to the conversation.

"She'll kill my cousin and me, and both of us will be found two weeks later in the sewage pipes as decaying corpses!" Jaune said, which I sighed.

"Jaune, she is not that stupid plus, even if she was, I ain't going down without a fight, and like hell I let her touch you Jaune," I said, very serious ready to kill someone who would hurt Jaune or my family.

Jaune looked at me and sighed. "Yeah, I know, Kai, but still, I don't want you to get hurt or dragged into that shit show." My cousin said, which made Glynda mad as well as my aunt.

"Jaune language!" My aunt said, mad.

"Jaune, Charles, both of you, please behave also, aren't you two overacting?" Glynda said, still confused why Jaune was negative as well me.

Jaune started to growl under his breath, "Please, I will be a school guide to anyone other than her." He pleaded.

"Again, I don't mind, but if it involves Jaune, then no, thank you," I said firmly, as I know this would cause a problem to my cousin.

"Boys, It's just for a week." My mother coaxed.

When aunty said that, I was shocked while Jaune paled, "I thought it was for two days! Do you want to send me to my death?!" Jaune said as he couldn't believe this.

"Aunty, for the love of God, please reconsider. Being a guide for Ruby will not help Jaune," I said as this would cause problems for Jaune.

As Jaune and I tried to plead to change aunty's mind, Glynda stood up and slammed her hands on the desk, tired of my protests.

"I am sorry, you two, but you will be Ms. Rose's guides, both of you two agreed to be a guide, and that is that."

With that being final, Jaune lay his head down in defeat while I just sighed as Uncle John is about to get it.

Jaune POV

After returning home from the office with my cousin Kai and my mom, I was so pissed at my parents. Who the fuck do they think they are! It's my life to live, so let me fucking live it.

When getting home, I saw my dad near the stairs and saw him smile at my cousin and me.

"Hey son, hey Kai, how was school?" My dad said with a worried look, probably expecting a small tantrum.

I stormed off and walked past him while my cousin greeted him. "Good though right now, Jaune is pretty pissed at both of you and aunty." He said as he saw Jaune stomping in the house.

Pissed off were not the words I used. I would say I was downright furious.

Does he know what he has done?

He has ruined years.

YEARS.

So much effort trying to be hidden, not being seen, staying in the shadows to hide so that I don't have to deal with other people.

All of it was undone because of my fucking dad.

I. Was. So. Fucking. Pissed. Off.

As I made my way into the living room, my mom was trying to grab me to pull me aside, which my cousin tried to stop her only to fail.

When my mother tried to put her hand on me, I slapped it away before it had touched me. Allow me to say being able to blend into a crowd had forced me to learn how to look out of my surroundings and dodge oncoming people; I had gained many skills I would never have had otherwise.

Anyway, my mother blinked, not expecting me to have reacted while my cousin sighed and knew this would be my reaction for forcing me to be a guide for Ruby.

I then turned to my dad and stomped up to him, looking agitated, "What the hell, dad?! I don't need you to interfere in my life! I can live however the hell I choose to! I don't need you or Mom butting in!"

Dad blinked as he took in how utterly furious I was, as he wasn't expecting that.

"Jaune, please, I know Uncle messed up, but you don't have to be so harsh even though he can be an idiot." My cousin said, which just made me angrier.

Dad sighed, "Jaune... look, I kno-"

I did not let my father finish and went for the kill, rule of survival. Anything goes.

"Spare me your 'this is for your own good' crap!" I yelled, "You fucked up everything! Do you enjoy hurting me, dad?! Is that it? Do you like hurting your kids? Is that all you're good for?! You suck at dealing with me, so leave me alone! My god, who the hell do you fucking think you are? God, why can't you be like Kai? He respects my wishes, but you don't."

My dad flinched, looking hurt, while Kai just looked shocked.

I will say that was a low blow, and I knew it, me, Kai and my sisters were my dad's entire world. He had given up a lot so that we could spend time together. Fuck, even after my parents took Kai in after Uncle Charles's and Aunt Lily's deaths, my dad was there for Kai to help him through that hell.

I knew to accuse my dad of hurting his own kids or nephew would be asking for punishment but fuck it, I was still pissed, and him looking sorry wasn't helping, "You don't know me, you never did! The only person who understands me is Kai! So keep your good ideas to yourself, you idiot!"

As I said that, there was a sharp sound as suddenly my face stung and my mom was next to me, hand raised and eyes bright with anger, "Jaune!" I saw my cousin holding my mom back, trying to stop her from hitting me again.

"Aunty, stop, please. Jaune is just angry. I know what he said was wrong and hurtful, but you should have seen this coming. Both of you caused this," My cousin said while still holding onto my mom from hitting me.

As I watched my cousin holding my mother back, I couldn't bear to be here; I was in the wrong, and so were my parents; I didn't need to deal with this bull crap.

I then pushed past my dad's frozen form (as hard as possible) and stomped up into my room, "Thanks for ruining everything, Dad! You've done a fan-fucking-tastic job!"

Jaune then went into his room while his cousin sighed and let go of his aunt; Kai looked at both his aunt and uncle in disappointment.

"Uncle John, I know what Jaune said hurt but remember this was on you as well as you Aunty. You should have known that forcing him into that situation would cause nothing but trouble. You should have known this would be the backlash." Kai said.

Kai then follows Jaune into their room while Jaune's mom looks at Jaune's dad and tries to comfort him.

After the argument with my parents, I flung my bag into my desk chair so hard it tipped over and fell with a loud 'clack,' then I kicked the door closed with all my pent-up rage, making sure the door frame rattled loudly. I guess all that exercise was good for something after all.

I was so pissed.

I needed to get out and DO something, my precious state of mind was completely off course, and my emotions were running wild. I gripped the sides of my head and flung myself face-first into the bed, letting out an utterly angry scream that sounded like a muffled moan. My mind was trying to think what to what right now.

I then hear a knock on my door and groan.

"Go away!" I yelled, which I then heard the door open and lifted my face up to see my cousin.

"Hey, Jaune, you okay?" He asked which I just looked at him with a severe look.

"What do you think?" I asked sarcastically.

Kai sighs and goes to his bed and sits down on it.

"Jaune, I know you're pissed I am as well. I mean shit Ruby Rose. We got our work cut out for us." Kai said, then I put my face back on my bed.

Kai sighs and tries to cheer me up. "Hey, Jaune, I know you're mad, so how about we go out and run? That always seems to help you out when you're in a funk." He said, hoping it would cheer me up.

I then lift my head again and look at Kai, and nodded.

I needed to run.

Run like hell.

Jut to get away from this place for a while after all that bullshit.

I yanked off my shirt and then checked my jeans to make sure I had my keys and everything. I then grabbed an athletic shirt from my closet, put it on, and then tied my hoodie to my waist. I then turned to my cousin and was about to tell him to get change only to see he already changed.

"Way ahead of you, cuz." He said with a smile on his face.

I looked at him and saw he was wearing a sweatshirt that looked like a training uniform from that anime My Hero Academia and pants to match it.

I then looked at him with are you serious look. "You kidding, right?" I asked, which he nodded no.

"What wrong with this? I mean, I run with you a lot, and you never complained about what I wear." He said.

"Dude, you look like your cosplaying, plus it will attract a lot of attention," I said, which my cousin counterargued.

"Really, your one to talk! You cosplayed as fucking Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist! When we went to Anime Expo!" He said with a smile on his face.

I look at Kai with an annoyed face. "Yeah, because you were cosplaying as Scar. I didn't want to leave you hanging," I said, justifying my reason I cosplayed as Alphonse.

"Yeah, leaving me hanging," he said, rolling his eyes back. Kai then looks at me and sighs. "Fine, I will change." He said, a bit disappointed, which I sighed.

"Fine, just don't complain if people think you look like a dork, okay," I said which I saw Kai smiled and hugged me. "Thanks, cuz, come on, let's run." He said and grabbed his stuff, leaving me in the room by myself.

I sighed and picked up my iPhone and put my headphones over my ears before setting it to my playlist for exercising music and strapped it onto my arm.

I made my way down the stairs, ignoring my father and mother, who both watched me head for the front door with worried looks.

When I stepped outside the door, I saw my cousin waiting for me.

"Come on, let's stretch before we run." He said, which I nodded.

It took a moment to stretch and loosen our bodies before we start.

After we were done getting loose and stretching our bodies, both me and Kai got into running positions.

"Think you can keep up without getting tired, Kai?" I said which Kai nodded.

"Hey, I may be a bit fat, but it doesn't mean I haven't been working out. Now come on, let's go." Kai said which I nodded.

We both got into positions and then took off.

Kai and I sprinted as hard as we could, feet pounding against the ground and wind caressing our faces like when my mother used to when I was a child. I smiled despite being angry, which I then let all my sorrow wash away into the breeze. I slid through the crowds of people like water, followed by my cousin, who was using me to draft as we ran.

Let me tell yeah, we were barely even brushing their clothing as we dashed. The people gasped or stumbled, but with my adrenaline coursing through my veins, I saw every movement and adjusted my steps accordingly, slipping in between by millimeters.

Sooner or later, I found out that left Kai behind but didn't care and kept running and later found a familiar-looking path and saw the park in the distance, that I had been coming here for when I needed moments to get away and be with myself which I been coming here for a long time.

Anyway, as I kept running, I lunged over the low rock fence and did a barrel roll before bursting back into a full sprint. People watched with wide eyes as I ran down the rock paths and winding trails. My breath was coming in short pants, and my legs and chest burned. It wasn't enough, and I need to go faster. I pushed harder and harder, and my vision began to blur into hues and started to see blobs of color.

Sweat kept pouring down my body as I started to become tired to the point that I couldn't feel my body anymore. I then felt my legs beginning to give out and started to slow down my sprint into a run, then into a jog, then into a walk.

As I kept walking, I found a tree, walked over to it, and then placed my back against the tree and slid down onto my butt. I rested my head on my knees and let my burning muscles ache.

After coming down, I felt a little better.

Though I should've known it was too good to last.

"You're really fast! I have never seen anyone run that fast for so long, and you went even faster at the end!" A cheerful voice said.

I then looked up into the face of a girl with black hair with dyed red tips at the end of her hair, and I saw she was wearing a red and black jogging outfit.

The girl then bent over to inspect me which I instinctively jerked my head back so I could gain some breathing room.

"Um... thanks?" I said, not sure what to say next until she decided to introduce herself to me.

"I'm Ruby! Ruby Rose!" She said with an innocent smile on her.

When I heard that name, I paled instantly.

Oh crap.

If Karama were a bitch this would be it.
