Episode 2: The Job of an Angel
The centurion poured Angie a cup of tea as well as the other girls as snacks were brought out along with them. Akria, Leslie, Angie, and Eva sat at a medium sized table in the outdoor courtyard of Palutena's Temple in the sky. The view was so beautiful, it was breathtaking.
"This is all so...unreal." Leslie said out loud before sipping her tea.
"I know right?!" Akria asked, her mouth full of snacks. "I mean, when Palutena asked us to come to her temple the minute we met her, I didn't think it would be THIS big!"
"Akria, chew and swallow before speaking." Leslie sighed at her best friend's behavior. She then looked at Angie and Eva. "What do you two think of this?"
"It's so good!" Eva hummed in delight, indulging in the delicious food.
Angie ate slowly, disapprovingly. "The ability to eat fast means you won't enjoy it."
Leslie nodded her head in agreement with Angie.
"Sorry for the wait." The girls looked to see the Goddess of Light accompanied by her angel walking into view before they sat down at the table. "We had to make sure no more Underworld invasions were happening."
Akria swallowed her food before smiling, "It's no problem at all, Palutena."
Leslie was about to correct Akria, telling her to call her 'Lady Palutena', but Palutena giggled a little. "I'm glad to see you're not afraid to be friendly. But I'd like to get straight to the point, if you don't mind." Palutena explained.
Akria set her snacks down and nodded her head. "Of-Of course. It's about this medallion and Angel Crimson, correct?" Akria asked as she took out the medallion she had recently received.
"Yes. Akria, was it? Through the power of that medallion, you've been given magical abilities that were forgotten and thought to have disappeared for many centuries." Palutena explained.
Eva raised her hand. "I have a question - does that mean when Akria did that transformation and said...something 'Evolution', it turned her into a completely different person?!"
"Not completely." Palutena replied. "It changed her appearance, her physical and magical abilities, but it didn't change who she truly was on the inside. It's a process from long ago called 'Celestial Evolution'. A technique that some mortal beings used to become warriors of the Gods."
"Yeah, I said that!" Akria realized. "How long has this whole...technique been lost for?"
Palutena thought for a moment. "I believe it was around the time when I first became the Goddess of Light when it just disappeared...I read and heard about it in scrolls and books, but never had seen in person myself." Palutena admitted.
"But then why did it suddenly appear now, and why can Akria use it?" Leslie asked.
"Well, I remember that when was determined to stop Thanatos...she started glowing and that's when the medallion appeared." Pit spoke up and looked at Akria. "Maybe your determination to save your friends brought it back!"
Akria laughed a little. "I doubt it's THAT easy, Pit."
Angie coughed a little bit. "So, that being said...you wanted us to help you take down Hades again. Do you know why Hades came back in the first place?"
"That is what we're looking into." Palutena said. "It's only been 2 years since the final battle between him and Pit. It shouldn't have been THIS quick to revive him..."
"You think there's someone else involved in his return?" Leslie questioned.
"I'm certain of it." Palutena replied.
Eva whined. "Ugh, the hardest people to beat always come back somehow..." She saw Palutena's confused look and she chuckled. "Oh, Uhm...it's a long story, again."
Palutena nodded her head with a smile before turning her attention to Akria.
"Akria, I know this is a lot to ask of you, but will you and friends side with us to face the Underworld Army?" The goddess asked.
Akria was a bit surprised. She looked down at her tea and snack before looking up at Palutena with a proud smile. "Of course I will! I'll do whatever I can."
Palutena smiled brightly as Pit cheered.
"That's awesome!" Pit said. "Hades won't even know what hit him when we train together and get stronger!"
Angie sipped her tea and hummed. "If you guys want, I can make lunch for when you guys are training."
Eva nodded excitedly. "Mhm! Big sister makes the BEST sandwiches!"
"That's great! Ooh! Can you make grilled cheeses?!" Pit asked excitedly. Palutena and Akria giggled a little at Pit's request.
"Grilled cheese is my specialty." Angie had to giggle at his words - the way Pit bounced up and down was adorable to her.
But meanwhile, Leslie looked at Akria, concerned. She looked away to sip her tea and calm her nerves.
Later on, Pit took Akria to the training grounds while Palutena escorted the other girls around and gave them a tour of the temple.
"…And this will be your living quarters." Palutena opened the double-doors to a bedroom that looked like a master suite in a 5 star hotel. There were four beds in the room and the colors were white, gold, and silver.
"Ooh! How pretty!" Eva mused at how pretty it all was. "Is this really for us?!"
Palutena smiled. "Yes, I can't have new soldiers or allies sleeping outside now can I?" Palutena winked.
"It is an honor!" She dramatically bowed while Angie shook her head with a smile.
"Thank you for your hospitality."
"You're welcome. I have to go check on some things. Angie? Would you like to see the kitchen area?" Palutena asked.
"Oh, of course!" She nodded and smiled brightly at the thought. "Please, lead the way!"
"I'll keep an eye on Eva for you." Leslie said to Angie with a wink.
She would have to be kept an eye on, for sure - Eva would explore every nook and cranny while her sister was away, humming lightly to herself. "Les, I didn't know Skyworld was so fancy!"
Leslie smiled at Eva's enthusiasm as Palutena led Angie to the kitchen. Eva was running around, checking out everything in the room. Leslie sat on the bed in the far right side of the room. She couldn't help but be in awe by everything around her like Eva was. But then her thoughts immediately shifted to Akria. Leslie's smile faded away as she began to think.
Eva noticed Leslie's mood soon and frowned, lying down on the bed with her. "Hey, Les - what's up?"
Leslie saw Eva come next to her and tried to put on a convincing smile.
"Yeah...This is all just overwhelming, ya know?" Leslie replied. "...Thrown out of our world into another...in a world that's a video game."
"No kidding." Eva sighed. "Especially since the guy I thought I beat was alive..." She put a hand in her fist. "Well, I wanna show 'em who's boss!"
Leslie laughed a little. "You're ready for a fight, huh?" Leslie looked up at the ceiling. "...I wish I had that kind of courage, then maybe..."
Leslie, don't worry! I'll be there for you, and always protect you!
Leslie stopped smiling and gave a serious look before standing up. "Eva? You wanna explore?"
"Hm? Oh yeah," she said, frowning. "Are you sure you're okay? I can keep a secret!"
Leslie started walking towards the door as she spoke. "I'm just...worried is all." Leslie stepped out of the room with Eva following her.
Meanwhile, Pit and Akria were sparring on the battle ground area. Currently, Pit was using a cannon weapon and Akria was practicing using a staff. Pit fired at a charged shot and Akria tried to block the attack but it only ended up pushing her to the ground.
"Ow..." Akria groaned before Pit walked up to her and held out his hand. Akria smiled and grabbed his hand as he helped her off the ground.
"That was really good, Akria!" Pit said. "You seem to have a knack for the staff."
"Thanks, Pit, but I still wanna try out the other weapons, if you don't don't mind." Akria replied.
"Of course! I'll go get you a club to try." Pit was about to leave to do so when an alarm sounded across Skyworld.
"?! What's that?" Akria asked. She then looked off in the distance and saw Underworld Monsters flying their way. "Pit! Look!" Pit looked to where Akria pointed and saw the same thing she saw.
Angie stepped outside, holding a plate of sandwiches. "Don't kill yourselves! I made a plate of grilled ch…" She nearly dropped it when she saw monsters invading.
Palutena, already having her staff in hand, summoned squads of Centurions to attack the invaders.
"What's going on?" Leslie said as she and Eva came outside, hearing the alarm blaring.
"I guess Hades is bringing the fight to us now." Pit growled. He then saw a light next to him and when it faded Akria had transformed into Angel Crimson.
"I'm ready when you are, Pit." Crimson said, getting into a fighting stance.
"Akria...!" Leslie gasped.
Angie put a hand in front of her, shaking her head. "I'm sure she'll be fine, we just need to support her from here!"
Leslie looked back at Angie and back at Crimson. "Ri-Right..."
Pit, with the Power of Flight, flew off to take care of the flying monsters while Crimson took care of the monsters on the Temple's ground. She used her fire to send monsters running or burning them to a crisp.
Eva could tell Leslie was shaking as the fight continued. She took her hand and squeezed it comfortingly, letting her silently know she was there.
Leslie was a little startled but looked to see Eva holding her hand.
Crimson threw punches at an Underworld Guttler before finishing it off and to see three huge figures flying in the sky.
"What is that?" She gasped. Her question was answered when she and the others on the ground saw the three bodies of the Underworld Commander, Hewdraw.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me." Crimson groaned a little.
Pit finished off a squadron of troops and saw the three Hewdraw flying towards Skyworld.
"Not these guys again!" Pit said as he flew back.
"Hades must want to live the good old days." Palutena said. That's when the violet colored Hewdraw crashed down in front of Palutena and the other girls. They all gasped to see one of the three giant serpents.
"Hello there! Lord Hades sends his regards!" The violet Hewdraw said before roaring.
"Careful, Crimson!" Eva called out. "This guy was tough - I think his heads grow back if you cut them off!"
Crimson looked back to see the violet Hewdraw roaring at Palutena and the others, and also hearing Eva's call. Crimson turned to go help them when the red-colored Hewdraw was coming down and about to gobble Crimson up. Luckily Crimson jumped out of the way of the bite.
"Everyone back up!" Angie ordered as she shielded Eva for protection, ushering Leslie over too.
Leslie hurried over to Angie as Palutena put a shield and blocked the violet Hewdraw's incoming attack. She then summoned beams of light at the monster and hit him directly. Meanwhile, the red Hewdraw and Crimson were going at each other, neck and neck. That left Pit with the blue Hewdraw up in the sky.
Pit fired his cannon weapon he was working with early, but Hewdraw was faster than he looked in the sky and kept dodging.
"He's too fast!" Angie called to Pit. "You need to look for a clear point to slow him down!"
Angie tried to find a way to do so, looking around until she found it. "Hey! Try to confuse him!"
Pit nodded in Angie's direction and tried to get creative with his attacks.
Palutena was stuck fighting the violet Hewdraw, who was much stronger than his brothers. The Hewdraw tried to bite Palutena but the Goddess jumped over his head and fired a mega beam at him.
"Wh-Whoa!" Leslie was impressed by Palutena's fighting abilities. She wasn't like this in the game she played at all.
"Go Palutena!" Eva applauded happily, while Angie nodded in approval.
"Way to go! Keep it up!"
Palutena smiled at the girls for a quick second before dodging the Hewdraw's tail coming down.
Pit fired a special attack in the sky with his cannon to throw off the Hewdraw's game before switching to the staff to rapid fire on him.
"Let's go!" Pit cried out as he used another special shot to destroy the blue Hewdraw from good. Palutena used her own power to crush the violet Hewdraw with gigantic beam of light, and destroyed her opponent. Pit came flying back down to the temple, and just in time too because the Power of Flight was almost at its limit.
"Way to go, Pit!" Angie cheered as she helped his landing - well, sort of. He landed in her arms, and both toppled over, Pit's nose touching hers.
Pit's face became bright red as he quickly got off her.
"I'm-I'm so sorry!" Pit stammered.
Angie had to blush at how close he was. But, she giggled and rubbed her cheek in embarrassment.
"N-No, it's okay. Please don't apologize."
"We're not out of the woods yet." Angie and Pit looked to see what Palutena was talking about. Everyone looked to see Crimson was still fighting the red Hewdraw, and it looked like Crimson was running low on energy.
The red Hewdraw laughed at Crimson's condition, "What's wrong, little one? And here I thought the girl who defeated Thanatos was tougher than this!" He mocked. "Maybe you just got lucky."
Crimson growled and her body started heating up.
"Enough of this!" Hewdraw roared as he opened his jaws to eat Crimson.
"NOOO! Leslie screamed and was about to run out to Crimson when huge rings of fire surrounded Crimson and burned Hewdraw.
"Augh! What the?!" Hewdraw exclaimed.
"I'm stronger than I look!" Crimson exclaimed. "Angelic Crimson Inferno!" Crimson used her special attack and set Hewdraw on fire and destroyed him completely in a fiery explosion. She then turned her back to him in victory and flipped her hair with a smile.
Eva squealed and ran up to hug Crimson, in happiness. "Way to go, Crimson! You showed him who's boss!"
Crimson nearly fell over when Eva hugged her suddenly, but she managed to hold her balance and hug Eva back. Pit, Palutena, and Angie went over to Crimson to congratulate her on a job well done.
Leslie, however...didn't go over right away. She was thinking of things over and over in her head before finally looking up and storming over to the group.
"That was so awesome, Crimson!" Pit said. "I've had a hard time with Hewdraw before, but you made it look easy!"
"Really turning up the heat, aren't you?" Palutena said as a joke. Everyone around laughed at that little comment. Crimson then noticed Leslie walking up to them.
"Les! I'm glad you're alright!"
SLAP!
Leslie slapped Crimson right across her face, stunning everyone.
Crimson only looked at her in absolute shock, and disarray.
"Les...lie?"
Eva hid in Angie's shirt, rather shaken by her action.
"What were you thinking?" There were tears in her eyes as she shook. "Do you have any idea what could have happened to you?!"
"But Les, I was trying to..."
"To do what?! Get yourself killed, Akria?!" Leslie cried out. "What would happen if you DID get killed? What would I do? What would WE do? What would your family do?! If you were gone!"
Palutena tried to calm Leslie down, "Leslie, please. It's OK."
"No...No it's not." Leslie cried softly. "She's always been like this. Thinking of others before her own well-being. That's nice and all, but...why can't you be selfish for once and look out for yourself?!"
"Leslie, what are you saying?" Crimson was so confused. Leslie couldn't hold back any more tears and she went full on crying and running off back into the temple.
Crimson transformed back into Akria and was about to go after her when Palutena and Angie stopped her.
"But…But what if...?" Akria couldn't find the right words to say.
"It'll be OK, Akria. Don't worry." Palutena assured as she looked back to where Leslie had run off to.
