Kendall had just finished making up a personal play for the first hockey game of the season. He'd hoped the coach would take the time to listen when he went before him, maybe hear out the plan a bit. He set the notebook aside And leaned up in his bed, looking across the room to Logan.
"Whatcha workin on?" He asked as Logan turned away from his desk, a pair of goggles over his eyes.
"Learning some new chemical compositions. What about you?"
"Just finished a new hockey play. I'm gonna talk to the coach about using it when the season kicks off." He said, grimacing slightly at the thought of it. Coach Rocque could be a tough nut to crack- but if he consulted with Kelly first...hmm.
He checked the time on the wall clock, getting up to get ready.
"Where are you going?" Logan asked as his eyes returned to his computer.
"Bookstore- gotta get all my books before they're gone." He responded as he slipped on a jacket. Logan nodded.
"Good luck man, word is people have been swarming the place."
He scoffed. This wouldn't be too hard...right? He bit his tongue at the thought. "Okay, maybe you're right- but you can't win anything if you don't try."
Lucy
She'd been standing outside of the store for about twenty minutes now- watching as the line moved progressively slower. She let out a groan as she realized she was barely even near the entrance. "Why...why is everybody getting their books today?!" She asked, letting out a loud sigh before pressing her back against the side of the building.
"Cause everyone is a lazy college kid." Kendall said as he approached the line, looking to ensure there was no one behind Lucy before sliding beside her. "I expected as much."
Lucy looked at him incredulously "Did you know?"
He smiled, but shook his head. "Well, Logan did. But I agreed with him so...technically yeah."
She laughed at that, watching as the person in front of her took a half step. She figured it would be pointless to move, as it wasn't enough space to even make her feel better about the wait. "This sucks..knew I should've just ordered them online."
"Eh, I wouldn't risk them not getting him in time for classes." Kendall said as he pulled a packet of gum from his pocket. "Gum?" He asked. She nodded, taking a piece from him.
"Lame." She muttered as she tossed a strand of hair out of her eye. She looked up to him then. "You said you were all from Minnesota right?"
"Yep, Minneapolis born and raised- except for Logan. He lived in Texas before he moved to Minnesota in the third grade."
She knitted her eyebrows together in surprise. "Wow. I guess I figured you'd all been together since the beginning."
He chuckled "We might as well have. Those guys are my brothers- no matter what. Enough about us, what led you to Minnesota? Georgia seems way cooler."
She shrugged. "Eh, not as cool as you'd think. I just really wanted a change of scenery honestly- and to get away from-" she cut herself off, her eyes panning down to the sidewalk. She cleared her throat before carrying on. "Stuff. Just a change of pace."
"Nice...well, since you're new here it's only fair that I show you what Minnesota has to offer." Kendall smiled, which seemed almost infectious. She smiled back
"I look forward to it- but what exactly did you have in mind?"
"Well there's uh, there's aquariums...escape rooms...museums-"
"Riiight."
"Oh, and of course- hockey."
"Okay- I hate sea creatures, escape rooms give me anxiety and museums are boring-" she responded, much to his chagrin. "Hockey sounds kind of cool though."
His face shifted into a smile once again. "So, we can go to a hockey game. Easy."
She laughed, then turned as the line finally shortened up to them. "Ugh, finally. They'd better have all these stupid books I need or so help me God-"
"We're all out of the music study books and the sports medicine books." A guy at the door told us just as we stepped through the door. I let out a groan and turned towards Kendall, who looked just as upset.
"Seriously?! Do you know when they all restock?" He asked the guy, who simply shrugged in response. Kendall bit his lip and nodded before turning back to me.
"You're in sports medicine?" I asked as we began to walk around the store.
"Yep, and I really needed those books...guess I'm screwed." He said as we turned down a random aisle of books.
"We're in the same boat." She said with a laugh, her finger wandering over a few titles on the shelves.
"Guess so huh?" He asked as he leaned against a bookshelf, turning to face her. "So...what led you all the way here again?"
"Eh, escaping my past- we talked about this...remember?" She asked. He nodded.
"Just curious."
"Well, curiosity killed the Cat. Or in this case, the Ken Doll." She said with a smirk, leading him to smile and roll his eyes.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up in remembrance. "Oh yeah, we're having a little game night tonight- maybe you and Camille could drop by?" He asked.
She seemed to think it over, before nodding "Eh, why not?" She needed friends anyways- social distancing from people wasn't going to help that.
"Awesome." He said with a small chuckle as he leaned back a bit further- effectively knocking over some of the books onto an unsuspecting person behind the shelf.
"Oof."
Game Night
The game had been going on for about thirty minutes now- a simple game of truth or dare. Except everyone seemed to avoid choosing the truth. The Boys had implemented their own rules into the game- where the person who has failed or accepted the least dares must drink from a weird goblet.
It was a black substance- with a horrid smell. Lucy got a scent of pickles from it and saw an empty root beer bottle on a countertop nearby. It wasn't too hard to figure out what it was. She was drawn from her thoughts by Camille's voice.
"Alright alright… Kendall, truth or dare?"
The emerald eyed boy looked up from his soda, eyes a bit wide. "Eh...I'm feeling dangerous, let's do a dare."
Camille smirked as she looked through her phone, then met his eyes. "I dare you to do the Bye Bye Bye dance routine." She said, a sinister smile upon her lips.
"Oof...uh...phone a friend?" He asked, a bit hesitant. The guys looked at each other, then Kendall and finally stood up.
"You're not going down alone bro." James said as he helped Kendall up from the couch- All four of them making their way to the center of the room. Camille gave me a knowing glance before starting the song- both of us watching intently as the boys began to dance. Naturally, it was a tragedy to behold- with them stumbling into one another and laughing their way through it.
By the time they'd finished, Camille and I had busted our guts in laughter, something that didn't last long as they sat down.
"Lucy- truth or dare?" I heard the words leave Kendall's mouth and sat up, meeting him with a playful glare.
"Well since you asked so nicely….dare." I said, regretting it a bit as I saw him smirk.
"I dare you to do a handstand for thirty full seconds."
{Damn you!} I'd thought as I let out a sigh, my eyes traveling to the goblet on the end of the table. The black liquid inside did not look appealing, so the dare would have to be done.
"Fine." I said with a shrug as I walked towards the center of the room, leaning forward into a handstand.
"Alright- clocks started." Logan said as my hair draped down onto the floor- my eyes focusing on the Wayne Gretzky poster on the wall to keep me steady. I could feel my arms wavering as my balance ran short. I fell down onto my knees with a small laugh, looking at them.
"Time?"
"Twelve seconds- Lucy's in last place." Logan said as he wrote onto his notepad. I rolled my eyes and returned to my seat, scanning the room before settling my eyes.
"Camille- truth or dare?" I asked, watching as the brunette nearly choke on her drink.
"Oh come on! What happened to Giles gotta stick together?" She asked with a pout. I shrugged.
"Every girl for themself- sorry sweetie." She huffed before responding.
"Dare."
"Alright...I dare you to swap clothes with Logan." I said , smirking slightly. Her eyes widened as she met Logan's both of their mouths agape.
"Uh, I'd rather not-" Logan began, James and Carlos chiming in.
"If an assistant on a dare refuses to assist."
"They are automatically bumped down to last place."
I smiled innocently as Logan let out a sigh, my eyes moving to Kendall as he held in a laugh. Logan and Camille walked off to the bathroom, returning a few minutes later with their outfits swapped. As quickly as they'd stepped out, James snapped a picture of Logan in Camille's skirt and blouse. He glared at his friend and lunged towards the phone, just barely missing it.
"This is perfect!" James shouted with a laugh as he tossed the phone over to Carlos, who took off onto Kendall's side of the room.
We all watched and laughed as the two boys played a game of cat and mouse- Camille soon commenting "Logan, your skirts lifting!"
He screamed and came to a stop, tugging at the skirt. "Okay- okay, can we uh, hurry up?" He asked. Camille nodded and stood up in her oversized outfit, heading with Logan to change back.
As they returned, Camille plopped down into place and looked at James. "James- truth or dare?"
James scoffed "Come on, easy. Dare." He said
Camille smirked, "I dare you to delete that picture you took of Logan."
Logan, who'd been brooding while writing on his notepad, looked up as if the Gods themselves had just answered his prayers. James mumbled as he tapped at his phone, showing us the screen to prove it was gone.
"Ah ah- delete the backup too." Camille said. James sighed as he did so, showing off his trash folder too.
"Good."
James sat down his phone and tapped his hands onto his knees, looking over each of us. "Alright Los, truth or dare?"
Carlos, who'd been stuffing his face with popcorn- paused and swallowed. "Dare!" He shouted.
James nodded to each of us then fixed his eyes onto his friend. "I dare you to run ninety five percent naked through the hall- all the way to the staircase and back."
Carloss scoffed as he launched to his feet. "Too easy." He said as he began to strip, the rest of us covering our eyes. As we uncovered them, we saw him standing proud in his Iron Man boxers and at the door. "Here we go!" He shouted as he took off down the hall, all of us sticking to the doorway to watch. I heard the guys laugh as I chuckled- watching him slip at the end of the corridor before scrambling to his feet and rushing back- two girls down the hall screaming at the sight.
He lunged past us and landed onto Kendall's bed before quickly getting dressed. Once done, the boy searched all of our faces and finally decided. "Kenny"
"What up?" Kendall asked with a hesitant tone, a small smile upon his face.
"I dare you to...kiss Lucy." He said. My eyes went wide as did Kendall's. We looked to each other, then to Carlos. I glared at him.
"Alright, too easy." I heard, my eyes going wide again.
Soon, I felt a soft pair of lips against my forehead- my cheeks flushing slightly. I let out a small sigh and looked at him with a laugh.
Carlos shrugged as the others protested "I never said where he had to kiss her." He exclaimed as he grabbed a Twix bar.
"Alrighty- Madame Stone." Kendall said, leading me to roll my eyes at his corniness. "I dare you to sing us a song."
"Alright." I said with a shrug. I hadn't expected Kendall to slide his acoustic guitar over to me, but didn't worry to much. "Any preferences?"
"Ooh ooh I like Avril Lavigne!" James said with Carlos and Logan motioning towards him. Alright, let's see if I remember the chords.
I positioned my fingers against the fretboard, strumming carefully with my index and thumb.
"Chill out, what you yellin' for?
Lay back, it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be
You would see
I like you the way you are
When we're drivin' in your car
And you're talkin' to me one-on-one
But you've become…"
I glanced around the room to take in everyone's reactions. It was all smiles and looks of interest so far- so that was pretty good.
"Somebody else 'round everyone else
You're watchin' your back like you can't relax
You're tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're actin' like you're somebody else
Gets me frustrated
Life's like this
You, and you fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get and you turn it into honesty
You promised me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no"
I gave one final strum before ending the song, wya hung as everyone broke out into shouts of praise and applause. I blushed at them, smiling before giving a curt bow. I hadn't Kendall his guitar and sat upright.
"Alright...Ken Doll." I said, watching as he playfully glared at me. "I dare you to break your favorite hockey stick."
His face went pale as I said that- the guys all gasping collectively. He shook his head slowly. "Evil…" he muttered.
I laughed as Camille playfully smacked my arm. "Are you denying a dare Mister Knight?"
"I am...I refuse." He huffed whilst crossing his arms. At this I took my chance and slid the goblet over to him
"You gotta drink. Theme the rules." I said with a shrug. He sighed before lifting the cup to his lips, his face bunching up at the smell that emanated from it. Finally, he let out a breath and began to drink. All of us looked on in disgust, but also humor.
"I can't believe it- Kendall's never drank before." James said, taken aback by the sight. Logan was recording it on his phone as Carlos looked on in fear.
"The prophecy has come true. The Knight has been trumped by a cold hearted warrior." He muttered, leaving me in confusion.
"Not even gonna ask." I said as I laughed. Kendall finally put down the goblet and let out a loud belch- holding his stomach.
"Ugh, that's what I've been putting you guys through? I'm so sorry." He said with a laugh. We all laughed at that, then stood up from our places.
"Alright. The game has been won- and Lucy Stone is the new truth or dare champion!" Logan declared as he showed us the notepad. I took a bow and let out a giggle
"Well this was awesome guys, but we gotta get going. New episode of Riverdale tonight and I really wanna judge the shit out of it." I said as I shook all of their hands in a gesture of good sportsmanship.
"Goodnight guys." Camille chimed as we made our way to the door- I paused and turned back to the guys for a second.
"Kendall." I called. He turned around
"Yeah?"
"Told ya not to mess with The Stone." I said with a smirk, one he returned before I finally closed the door.
Yeah, this college was definitely a good idea.
