'Ugh, why is everything suddenly so bright?' I blinked my eyes a couple of times adjusting to the light. 'What is this screen? It's floating? And blue? Wait is it a game notification? No way right...?' I kept staring at the screen while laying down, reading it over and over again.
'It is! It says I'm a gamer? Ooh, it's like one of those stories I've read recently came to life! Hehehehe how exciting!'
"Wait… it's saying I'm the gamer. As in me, Hanna." I stayed silent for a minute allowing this information to sink in, then started laughing at the prospect of that. "Well, sorry to burst whoever brought me here's bubble, but I think you choose the wrong person. I'm not main character material… I'm definitely passer-by A, the one the author didn't deem important enough to name. I mean, I really don't have anything to add to your world's plot line… or any other world as a matter of fact. I have no ambition to achieve anything whatsoever… even with this power of being a gamer, I will only use it for fun or to make my life easier. So, I'm sorry system or whatever your name is but you really wasted your time bringing me here… can I go back home and continue my life as a reader now?"
…
As no one answered, I stopped talking into the air, deciding that it will only get me in trouble if anyone heard what I'm saying. "Tch, how annoying." I mumbled. I sat up and started to look around 'where am I anyway? And… what's this smell?' I looked at my left and saw half an upper body lying on the ground "oh, shit!" I jumped back and bumped into something else "aah mommy, it's another one." I clasped my mouth with one hand to stop myself from screaming and crawled away from the bodies.
I crouched down behind a bush and started recounting what happened before I came here 'I was taking out the trash, got abducted, kicked the driver's face, then the car crashed. Right… I was almost abducted. I really do have terrible luck, don't I? I mean, I barely step out of the house. The last time I went out was more than a month ago. So, why did they come near my house that time? Why me…? More importantly, why am I in a forest surrounded by dead bodies?'
I sighed, raised my right hand to brush back my hair and almost screamed 'My hand! What happened to my hand?' I started checking my whole body with wide eyes 'Of course, I'm not only in a new world but I'm in a new body… that's also very tiny.'
I sighed again, 'It's just one thing after another. I can't seem to catch a breath… I think I need to lay down a little and process my thoughts.' I lied down, hands behind my head, and watched the clouds for a couple of minutes. I then recalled what happened today from beginning to end and came up with a couple of answers to where I am and what's happening.
'Theory number one: I'm dead or in a comma. This place is a dream, a fabric of my imagination…' This idea was believable, as I'm always coming up with new stories in my head on a daily basis. This place might be a setting of a story I created in my subconscious where I'm a gamer. It probably feels realistic now because of the car crash. 'If I really am in my subconscious… then I should have the ability to change my environment.' I smiled, imagining what my bedroom looks like and thought 'I want to go to my bedroom now please!' I cracked one eye open, and dropped my smile instantly. I mumbled "I'm still here." I then proceeded to stretch the skin on my hands and cheeks 'that hurt… okay, so not a dream.'
'Theory number two: I'm dead and this is the after life… I'll take this one out as it seems unlikely with those dead people I just saw.'
'Theory number three: I've gone crazy after getting a head injury. I'm actually in a mental institution. This world is my way of coping with the problems in my head… I really hope it's not this one so… let's skip it too.'
'Theory number four: Everything the system said is the truth. I'm somehow in another world. I became a 'gamer' and started possessing this kid's body. It's the craziest idea but the most probable one…' I continued laying down while staring at my hands for a couple of minutes. 'I'm sorry mom, dad. It looks like I left the world before you. I hope you're not too sad… even if my death came in this terrible fashion. It was my time to die. I hope I was a good daughter to you… My only regret is not growing up to reach your expectations.'
I dwelt in my thoughts for a while but quickly collected myself to face the situation at hand 'scenario number four it is then. I better take what's happening here more seriously.'
I sat up and studied my surroundings 'I'm in a forest with tall trees... the tallest trees I've ever seen (mind you I rarely left the house). There are one, two… three dead bodies that look like they exploded right next to where I was laying down… So, the owner of this body was supposed to be dead. She definitely did not survive what happened here.' I sighed, relieved by that piece of information 'At least I didn't posses a living body… that never set right with me when I read about it…'
I moved out of the bushes as quietly as I could and studied the place I woke up in. I found big pieces of brown fabric next to the bodies. 'Those pieces look like they belong to a brown bag or a potato sack, it looks like it exploded with the bodies next to it... but my body looks fine. How? Did the system heal this body after the explosion happened?' I started studying my new body 'it looks young... probably 3 or 4 years old. Hmm, I need more information and this floating screen is just right in my face making it difficult to do anything. Why isn't it leaving anyway?' I reread the message and saw something I didn't notice yet. 'How did I not see this before? I'm such an idiot sometimes.'
I went back to my hiding spot, avoiding the smell of death lingering near the bodies and sat down. I looked back at the floating screen. There was a small box underneath the text I read before. The words next were written on it. I internally said 'next', triggering the words on the screen to change.
[Since you made an unpredictable choice, the system got interest and chose you as its newest gamer to live in the world of the last story you read! To learn about this body's memories say 'memories'!]
'Last story? Wasn't it a Naruto fanfic? What was the story line again? Ninjas that go through war right? Wait… I was reading a fan fiction not the original story. Are the events in this world going to be different or the same…? Either way I didn't finish reading both versions (the original and fanfic)!' I began to feel anxious but sill followed the system's suggestion. 'Memories!' I thought.
'Ugh, my head.' I held my head as memories kept flowing into it and laid down panting "This is… this is not good."
'So let's summarize what I learned... my name is Sayori. I'm four years old. My father died in the kyuubi attack. My mother died giving birth to me. I lived in the orphanage and got kidnapped since my mom "supposedly" has a Kekkei Genkai. I killed everyone here including myself by using what? An ability of… self destruction? I think I created an explosion that should've killed me and those who were around me. But the kid's memories don't explain how this happened, so it's all speculation on my part...'
'This child, Sayori, thought she'd rather die than get kidnapped. It's a similar end to my own… That's probably why the system chose this body for me. But really this is a tough situation... it does not look good on my side. How am I supposed to explain what happened without anyone going through my brain. Worse, what if someone tries to kidnap me again for this ability I apparently have?'
'Well, I don't know how long I have till someone comes to check this place. I'll at least try to find some clues as to who kidnapped me.' I went to one of the bodies that still had its head intact, opened said person's mouth, and took out his tung looking underneath it. '... Huh? I thought it'd be much harder to know who's behind this. It's good that I remember this seal.' As soon as I saw the seal bellow his tung, I knew who it was. 'Of course it was Danzo. Was there anyone else who kidnaps kids from the orphanage? Anyway, according to Sayori's memories I'm probably still in Konoha... It won't do me any good to stay here. I need to go back to the orphanage now.'
As soon as I wiped my hands and moved away from the body, a person jumped from a tree and stood right in front of me. I fell on my butt surprised and made a small noise "aah." I looked up as fast as possible to find out who was there. I didn't recognize the man. He wasn't wearing a mask, but he was wearing the village's Hitai-ate on his waist. 'At least it's not one of Danzo's men'.
"Are you alright kid?" The man asked. While he was talking two more people stood next to him and moved behind me to examine the scene.
"Uhuh." I nodded my head looking at him with fear showing in my eyes. 'Game plan for now: Act dumb. As dumb as I could, until I figure out my next course of action.'
"Well, that's good to know. Don't be frightened we're here to help." He gave me a big smile that showed all of his teeth.
I smiled awkwardly at him and tried to relax a little.
"What a youthful child you are! Can you tell me why you're here and if you saw what happened?"
'Youthful... Youthful? There's only one man who'd say that...' So I asked "mister?"
"Oh me? I'm Might Guy! A shinobi of Konoha!"
"Ooh." I said acting relieved but I was screaming in the inside 'Guy? As in team 9's sensei Might Guy? He doesn't look anything like Guy… Where's the bushy eyebrows? And the green spandex! He's not wearing a green spandex! Is this because I'm in the fanfic? Ugh, this is going to be confusing. I'll think about it later. For now, focus on your alibi Hanna! No Sayori!'
