...Um hi my name is Lez I won't lie to you I do not know how uploading stuff works and thought I could add this to the last chapter.
I have had this idea for a while like coming on two years now I wrote most of this a year ago and wow a lot has changed for some reason I stopped reading in the RWBY community and kind of forgot I did this.
I have read a lot of RWBY fanfiction on this site A LOT including a couple of self insert fics(do not panic stay calm) the stigma that typically exists with these is overwhelmingly negative despite their being some creative stories out there.
But regardless the majority are gamer / op semblance fics that allow the protagonist to catch up and surpass the main cast in a matter of weeks , sometimes this is bypassed with an out of chapter training montage but rarely is it satisfying.
It is an interesting problem how do you make a fic or a character with no or very limited combat experience catch up to fighters who were trained since their early teens at the latest.
It isn't easy there are a couple of fics written by people far far far far far far far far far far far more talented and practiced than me out there.
(The pen and the sword (probably my favourite fic) , Forged destiny , an Exercise in stupidity,My turn and a Jack of all trades) they manage to balance power well and make it believable.(These are also probably my favorite stories to read and the writer of 'an Exercise in Stupidity' kept in contact with me for a while a year back and gave me some writing advice so thanks Jericho)
As many others have found my interest in RWBY waned but I still want to put this idea out there as a friend of mine inspired me recently and I kind of realised how much time I spent thinking about it when I could just sit down and do it.
I have written a bit before , a 20k fanfic on my IPAD that I deleted because it was terrible.
But otherwise this is a first real attempt at writing.
Wish me luck
Exhaustion
He had been running across the Mistral country side for ten hours straight.
Running along back country roads and less often travelled footpaths , running killing and running more but he wouldn't stop for anything he would find her.
The birth was 4 weeks early he thought it would be reasonable for him to get in a quick hunt before the delivery but in mistral , no plan survives.
A simple elimination job that would 'only take a day' turned into a week long slaughter a cocky kid with no training thinking himself a huntsmen found a deathstalker hive and decided that rather than returning home alerting the militia and even the local military he would be a hero.
They never found his body
Missions like these always tired him out the most , when he became a huntsmen he thought it would be all glamor and gold but no matter what , he'd always have to see death.
'Dad was right'
He didn't want the same for his kid. Boy or girl he couldn't stand the thought of them having to kill for a living no matter how noble it looked to 'society'.
His friends and even his wife sometimes called him out on it when they were feeling particularly ballsy , but what is the point of fighting so hard so the ones you love have to do the same?
'What's the point of living if we achieve nothing for our families what do we all gain?'
'I won't make the same mistake you did Dad , I will watch him walk, talk and I won't regret a thing.'
He could see the millitary base ahead and pushed on, his weapons clinking against his thighs the blood on them slowly evaporating.
His wife Saya Stone was there - had to be there. An ex-spec ops weapons specialist by day and soon to be mother of one by night she had been determined to keep working through her pregnancy , their mortgage wasn't going to pay itself and the Orion valley needed well trained and equipped border guards no matter what time of year.
According to her the armoury would fall apart without her 'Guidance' from the look of her colleagues faces when he came to pick her up she was a real hardass but near the edge of controlled territory she wouldn't take any chances.
The guards manning the checkpoint entrance noticed him and moved to stop him but one recognised him, he came round for dinner once.
If only he could remember his name
'Okay brown hair bout six foot one'
Oh crap
What is his name?
"Go get em Brun she's in the green medical wing and looking pissed!" he chuckled
"Uh thanks ...man" he barely huffed out his exhaustion catching up to him.
He kept running into reception where he found Karen the head nurse for the entire base
"Brun Argon Hellsing"
"Yes where is she?" he rasped his tiredness and lack of breathing now catching up to him
"6'1 Brown bear faunus , Brown hair , Amber eyes"
"Where is ... she?"
"I need to do your security clearance give me a minute" As she continued to type
"Age?"
"27"
"Occupation"
"Huntsmen and you knew that already"
"Full addre-
A two handed axe planted itself into her desk making a large notch into the edge of the desk.
It appeared to be an old weapon it lacked a mech shift function and the dark brown oak had aged where thousands of scratches had covered the handle as well as a series of runic carvings each one stained yellow some blue a small curved blade edge/spike on the bottom of the handle.
The blade itself was arched with a backspike the overall length clearly made it a two handed weapon but Brun held it confidently in one.
"Let ..me..see..my fucking wife" he said placing dragging his axe along the edge of her desk a large peel of her desk coming off as he walked along its radius
"Oh um ... yeah Saya's on the top floor end door on the left number 69 green medical wing"
...
...
He would laugh when his child was in his arms
He rushed up the stairs up three flights scrambling as fast as he could sprinting down the hall and shoulder charging the door open to find Saya mid contraction.
"Saya" he said falling to his knees and squeezing her hand
She looked like shit
Her normally long curly brown hair was frazzled beyond belief ,the deep dark blue eyes that he adored looked as exhausted as he felt ,sunken tear trails lined her cheeks.
Her face was white her breathing heavy.
"What the fuck took you so long?" she grunted while grinding her teeth
"I had to run*huff* but I'm here now"
She didn't take it as a great excuse but didn't respond as the doctor could apparently see the head she was almost done.
A few minutes later she had a baby boy in her arms two bear ears dotted his head she cut the cord with a knife she pulled from a sheathe that lay around her neck the doctor awkwardly placed his scissors back down.
" I wanted to cut the cord" Brun wined his hand squeezing Saya's
"I squeezed him out its mine to cut" she half laughed half cried.
He was here a baby boy in her arms her baby boy their baby boy.
He didn't cry didn't winge or struggle.
He didn't move
The nurse who had kept her company through a total of twelve hours had been too relieved to notice but once panic set in she acted.
Initial chest compressions and later an attempted defib.
But it wasn't enough ten agonising minutes passed she tried everything she could her equipment wasn't limited as Saya was the only one giving birth.
By the end of those ten minutes she handed the child back to Brun and Saya their faces so blank their hands shaking.
Brun held his sons head and closed his eyes His hands trembling.
"When our darkest nightmares are realised , and darkness seeks to envelop our souls it is will which drives back our opponents.
It is will that defines humanity I have bled , I will bleed until my end but I will endure I shall push on. Your soul has endured and shall continue to do so as I release your will into this world so you may cast aside the darkness and defend the light. To become a warrior to rip and tear to throw yourself into conflict so you may embrace the light .
By my soul and all other warriors before me i release your will into this world so you may conquer"
"So you may survive"
His Brown aura receded leaving no unnatural glow inside the room his Childs body lay cold.
His breath shuddered
"You're everything to us, you would conquer live love and ... and probably piss me off..."
"We love you"they both spoke
Brun shut his eyes as he embraced his child for the last time holding him with his wife , he cried for the first time in a decade.
Saya was inebriated pain meds blood loss general tiredness and exhaustion but her mind had never been clearer , she had always been reserved stoic and only opened up around family even then rarely letting emptions show.
But in that moment , grief was her world.
She ignored all stimulus no noise but a dull ring in her ears the only feeling was holding her sons hand it was far too cold.
Too small
Wasn't he supposed to hold her hand many years from now
Wasn't he the one who would feel them turn cold.
She just couldn't understand how cold it was how it chilled her soul.
But it was getting warmer
His son glowed Brun had never unlocked someone's aura before his father telling him that he could only do it to his bloodline when they were of an appropriate age but now the glow spreading throughout the room was not his own.
It was grey his son had aura his son had a will and a soul.
His son was alive.
His son cried
And it was the happiest moment of their lives.
—-3 months later—
*Thump*
...
*Cough*
...
Saya groaned as she rolled over eyes struggling to separate , she had always been a goodsleeper a life in the millitary taught her how to fall asleep quickly and not to whine when getting up.
But this was hell!
Her eyes cracked open and observed the light green glow of her alarm-clock
03:02
"It's your turn" her husband mumbled
"You do it"
"Its 4 - 3 to me your turn" he grumbled before collapsing back into bed
Reluctantly Saya kicked her legs out from under the covers
'At least he doesn't wail as much I swear I got about two hours sleep in the first week'
Apparently it was a good sign as her mother and friends with kids would tell her.
They were idiots
All of them
Other than the usual crying baby problems she supposed everything went well.
From her husband using his aura to save her child to settling little Alex in. Everything else had been picturesque she supposed.
She stumbled through the darkness heading for the thin line of blue light under her door , the nightlight in the hallway glowing gently. It had to be installed for her sake as Brun could see perfectly in the dark and was oversensitive to large changes in light so it was more for her than for him.
She honestly wished she was a faunus perhaps that was the soldier in her talking ignoring the discrimination which her admittedly intimidating husband faced even from other huntsmen.
'Yeah that was always messy'
Huntsman barfights got really destructive really quick
But night vision and superhuman hearing just seemed so useful.
She opened the hallway door and went into their son's room he had only been there a week and it was already well furnished a large teddybear that would hold the door open, a mini desk with giant pencil styled legs a chest of drawers and a soft blue glow coming from a series of glow in the dark star stickers attached to his ceiling.
She could see a little better in there and walked over to his cot peering tiredly over the wooden side.
He wasn't there
Any feeling of tiredness vanished as adrenaline rushed through her.
Eyes darting around the room she found nothing
"BRUN" she screamed while flipping the Lightswitch on bathing the room in more light still finding nothing
Brun rushed in ass naked holding a shotgun that was kept below their bed pumping it as he entered
"W-what's happening?"
"Alex is gone"
"What?!"
"You know what I fucking said where is he? Where did you leave him you idiot!?"she screamed
"In that crib where else? I didn't go into any other rooms"
A ceramic breaking sound came from the kitchen sounding like someone knocked over a vase.
Both their heads snapped in that direction Brun pulling open the door and aiming his weapon down the hallway taking point spying Saya's Bergen that had been knocked over pointing his flashlight at it while Saya snatched a combat knife from its top pouch and her own torch holding it in a reverse grip.
Saya held one hand on Bruns back as he guided her through their hallway attempting to be as quiet as possible they wanted the element of surprise after all.
Moving out to the landing looking down on their living room another sound coming from the kitchen this time quieter.
They went down the stairs through the living room stacking up by the doorwhich was slightly adjar Saya placed her hand on Bruns back and tapped twice he smashed the door open while turning on his shotguns torch aiming to blind his opponent before firing.
He found nothing
no imposing house robber or criminal with a grudge.
Nothing but a broken yellow ceramic jar crumbs scattering the floor and guilty eyes above it.
It was his son
And he was standing on his own two feet.
The next day
It was an odd feeling or well a mixture of feelings for the new parents pride at their child having his first steps , sadness at having missed those steps and an underlying feeling of concern.
Kids shouldn't be walking at that age
Should they?
The car ride to the doctors office was awkward they both felt they were overreacting Brun had only ever been to the doctor at most three times in his life. Including his own birth and their child nailing something as late stage and complex as walking before , he even started teething.
Apparently that stage would be just as sleepless.
As Saya held him he was not struggling as much as one would expect.
It was clear that he was normal in his odd fascination with rattling objects as he was now playing with the chain of a neckknife Brun made for her when they got married , he had picked up blacksmithing off of her and made the knife and sheathe in secret , suprising her on the day with a sharktooth damascus pattern in a karambit shape with a stained red leather wrapping around the grip.
It just might have been stained with blood , he was probably just screwing with her but then again he was pretty consistent in a lot of his family traditions and the whole warrior gig so it honestly could have been coloured red with his own blood.
A lot of people found his habits weird and criticised him for it but she thought that everyone has their traditions and his were just a bit more proactive than others.
He was stubborn much like she was and well they got on well because of that or didn't occasionally and had to quote a friend of hers
'You guys don't fight like a normal couple , you just make the most violent and sexual imagery I can fathom and whoever comes up with the worst seems to win'
She turned the chain around her neck so Alex couldn't get to the knife and continued to let him play with the chain as they began to approach the doctors office it was a thirty minute drive from their home as they lived nearer the millitary base and valley gap in a fairly large log cabin that Brun had designed and built with help from his friends and brothers in constructing the foundations walls and roof.
He hired traditional builders for the inside meaning the house despite its size actually didn't cost that much to make , the wood being from the area made it fit in with the surrounding forest.
Their mortgage was for the land plot it was placed on being the most safe area in the valley it was still much less than a house but they still needed to pay it off.
They pulled into the town of Sanam a well defended town that had cobbled streets and a surrounding old stone wall that was suited for the days of old. It was an odd mixture of architectures common in many surviving or older frontier towns.
Stepping out of their car into the street they turned a fair few heads being basically strangers as they bought their food from the valley fort village rather than the larger supermarkets here.
Though a few were looking at their army Truck or her , they were looking at Brun.
Faunus were not exactly liked in this area as people hadn't had much exposure to faunus (unlike in the cities) and with that stereotypes took hold she hated how people judged him but she could at the least understand why they may be intimidated by him.
Riddled with scars , always heavily armed, tall and attractive gave plenty of insentive for normal non racist people to be wary of Brun but the racism still felt so irrational so undeserved.
Maybe this is why he looked so suprised when she didn't look at his ears on their first meeting and instead just cracked on with their Grimm clearing mission.
They entered the GP and went through the usual fifteen minute awkward waiting process being glared at by a bunch of eighty year olds there to pick up their prescriptions.
"Saya, and Brun Hellsing" an older doctor peeked his head around the waiting room door leading them through to his office.
"Please sit down" as he gestured towards two chairs facing his desk
"I'm Doctor Leo by the way I just need a moment"
He sat back in his own leather chair and logged onto his terminal pulling up their records and pre-loading their sons records.
"The machine will take a while to boot up so what appears to be the problem"
Saya looked uncertain
"I know its probably silly but last night our son escaped his crib climbed down stairs found our kitchen and broke a jar"
"Well i suppose you'll have to get higher crib walls maybe close his bedroom door is that all?" he said looking fairly annoyed
"The key detail here is that he was standing up when we found him , and he did walk around a bit" Brun said
"How old is he? Five months?"
"Three"
Doctor Leo looked very perplexed "Well that is unusual although it is a very large tolerence some taking 12 months and most taking around seven this is unusual".
"Usually babies do not have the familiarity with their own ... how do I put this form? They struggle to make repeated complex movements" he continued.
"After all when you actually look at the act of walking it is a fairly large number of steps .. no pun intended to complete just to take but a single step forward!. This is unusual but nothing to be concerned about by any means ... anything else?"
"He knocked over the cookie Jar that was on the counter which is easily double his height"
"Did he have access up there or did he just push on say a broom and it fell down?"
"A broom was next to him ... I think" Saya said as Alex played with her hair
"So he just stumbled down the stairs most likely crawled down them actually , walked in the kitchen probably leaned on a broom when walking for support and knocked this Jar over" Doctor Leo summarised
"Well I assure you this isn't a problem this is just unusual I would get higher walls to his crib and maybe shut his bedroom door so he cannot escape the room"
He stood to shake Bruns hand as they began to leave
"Thank you Doctor Leo"
"You're welcome and both of you"
They turned towards him
"Get some sleep"
Brun nodded while yawning heading back to the car and driving home.
— 5 years later —-
Sarah Arran was a middle aged primary school teacher or that's what she told herself and others at every opportunity.
She was actually 60 had seen and taught hundreds of younger pupils over the years from all different backgrounds but she hadn't encountered a single child like this.
And no she wasn't talking about him being a faunus in a primarily human community she had grown past such discrimination and had taught dozens over her career.
The five year-old acted like her granddaughter who was 10 a reading age of ten or higher he seemed to have a similar capability in mathematics but just struggled to get the words out , had a larger vocabulary than the other kids his writing was messy but he actually included commas in an occasional sentence. All signs pointed to him being a genius he was to a certain extent initially socially excluded but she needn't intervene as he quickly formed a social clique with his own group mainly made up of faunus and one or two of the brighter children.
It was just odd to look at and it felt wrong to drag his parents in when he had been a model student .
But here they were.
"So why are we here?" Brun asked looking down into his son's eyes as he sat on his lap
"I dunno I don't think I did anything bad" Alex said shrugging
"I called you in here to talk about your sons reading mathematical and linguistic assessments you asked me to perform over this term"
"The term isn't over yet what's wrong?"
She spread out some of his drawing paper and work a very simple mathematics test was placed in front of them as well as a spreadsheet for each students time taken and mark out of one hundred
"Even though Alex's neat handwriting speed is a little slow he got a mark of one hundred in 3 minutes 40 seconds the average mark was 63 in ten minutes and twenty seconds... I don't need to keep testing him the results are very clear your son is a genius."
Much to Sarah's shock they didn't look that suprised
"Well hun guess were out of excuses not to get him that puppy now" Brun said smiling
"R.. really dad?" Alex asked a smile spreading across his face
"Yeah we'll pick him when they're ready to collect son should be around the sixteenth of June probably.
"Aww that's like two weeks away" Alex pouted his ears flattening against his head staring into his Dad's eyes finding no reaction before trying again on his Mum to no avail.
How they resisted that pout was beyond Sarah's comprehension.
"Its okay kiddo they just need time to make'em the best dog ever"
"Mmm okay dad"
Brun found Sarah waiting for her turn to speak
"Oh sorry uh anything else?" Brun apologised while hugging Alex
"I would like to speak to your father alone is that okay Alex?"
"Okay Mrs Arran" as he slid off his dads lap and took his mother had talking to her about getting McRonalds on the way home.
The door closed
"I know you don't want him to become a huntsman , so before you shoot this down take my thoughts into consideration" her tone becoming more serious
"I think you've heard about my Brothers school on the other side of tow-
"Arrans school for gifted children I purposely drive around it at every opportunity ... I just don't want him to go through even half the shit me or my father did... is that wrong?"
"Look he is beyond this school and physically too young to be upped another year more like five to challenge him he has outgrown this school if he stays here he will coast through his education!"
"He will become complacent and his talent that damn near every other parent on the planet envies would go to waste but at that school I can guarantee you he'll be challenged"
"How is it any different to this school? other than the propaganda to become a huntsman"
"Huntsmen need to be bright and have great adaptability and problem solving.
Skils like these are developed in their earlier years so the more academic and complex subjects are focused on at a higher intensity he would be challenged and be physically fit"
"He will be indoctrinated into becoming a killer for hire!" Brun yelled slamming his fist down on her desk the wood straining.
...
...
...
"That's what we are Sarah , all we do is witness death ... there isn't any gold or glory especially for a faunus these days I just can't put him through that I'm sorry"
"Its not a permanent commitment he doesn't have to stay for his whole education only his primary then by that point you may move and get him in a city school but this is the best option for him now .. you know he is a smart kid rational and logical above all else. At his base character he will realise its dangerous and that he can make money in other careers as long as you steer him away from it gently"
"This is the best thing for him Brun we both know that" she said softly while patting his back
Brun held his head in his hands
"I've been shot ... blown up tortured all without aura a lifetime of pain the likes of which i would only wish on a few people but do you know what was the worst by far the worst?"
"I had known my own kid for two minutes tops ... didn't hear him scream didn't even see he had his mother's eyes , and losing him at that moment was the worst feeling of my life" he started to stutter
"Out of everything the abuse ,the killing not of Grimm Sarah people bandits are still people with lives ... families kids like mine christ I had to 'mercy' kill a town Guard on my third mission as a huntsman.
He was practically cut in half begging for it Alex doesn't deserve that life"
"He is a good kid he's my kid and he will change this world for the better no matter what we do but"
...
...
...
"But do you know what my family history is? In a word Pain that's what a Hellsing always gets.
We always charge towards violence , call it the bloodline call it whatever you want but we all crave that.
Its our biggest failing.
Not setting up our kids for good lives Gramps didn't my father didn't and died I won't make his mistake"
Sarah wisely decided not to mention how his son would never experience such things but it was clear his point was made.
"Those were his last words to me , the last bits of sagely advice in a burning town he saved my life told me to not put my kid through this."
He scrunched his eyes shut
"Make it count don't lose them be with them I never regretted it and neither will you"
"I just don't want to lose him I love him more every day his quirks his character attempting to help me with housework I-I won't lose him not again never again"
She rubbed his back
"I am just saying consider it I will respect your decision" she handed him a tissue
His eyes were red but softened "getting a crying baby turned me into a crybaby*chuckle* what are the odds"
"Thank you Sarah I will consider it" taking a pamphlet explaining the school and its principles straightening himself before leaving
—
'Oh jesus first my wife now his teacher , its more a case of who doesn't want him to go to that damn school'
Walking down the main school hallway and out a side door to the parking lot
"Can't let him go there" he said mumbling to himself while scrunching up the pamphlet
'I won't waste this Dad you saved me I'll fight fate to the end'
"Dad?"
'Shit'
He kept his hand closed pretending it was normal trash and turning around.
"Hey kiddo where's Mom?" he chuckled nervously while looking to where he thought they parked.
"She's getting mad because the truck won't start so can we like walk home?" he asked
"Why do you wanna walk its pretty cold" he said fake shivering
"I like it when its cold and Mom doesn't seem to know what she's doing"
"Oh no she has no idea , guns a complete expert cars and anything else nope" his hand still clutching the scrunched up pamphlet
"But you shouldn't be talking about her like that young man"
"You did the same thing!"
'Fair point'
"Yeah we'll call it even I'm gonna try and get it started but if I can't we take the bus and walk the rest of the way home sound good?"
"Okay"
Brun began to walk away tossing the pamphlet in the trash while being followed by Alex.
What he didn't realise is that Alex caught it mid way with his right hand and rustled the trash bag with his left hand stuffing the pamphlet under his shirt while scuffing his shoe to stop his dad from hearing the paper crunching.
"Wait up Dad" Jogging to his father's side
"Sorry kiddo I forgot how short you were" he joked while reaching down and rustling Alex's hair between his ears.
"How could you forget that?" Alex said feigning ignorance while flattening out the pamphlet so it didn't stick out as much.
They walked across the parking lot finding Saya still swearing at the old trucks engine her tone softening when they approached.
Brun covered his son's ears they were twenty meters away and anything she muttered would be easily heard.
—-
Saya smiled as she watched Alex wiggle his way further under his new covers .
Not too much had changed about his room the stars had to be removed as they made too much light for him to sleep easily , obviously the cot was replaced with a oak fourposter bed perpendicular to his bedroom window , the window being on the right and a wall radiator on his left.
A book shelf had been placed next to his now larger wardrobe that Alex had helped Brun build. A couple books had been collected his old picture books and reading books were still on there but obviously not needed as his reading age was 15 at age 5.
She felt so much pride when watching him excel as any parent would.
Other books were stored there a couple of fictional novels a DIY ideas book and a summary history book of the last one hundred years focusing on the great war which he was currently working through he really took an interest to history while practicing his writing in making little summary bullet tpoints and paragraphs about the previous two pages.
His physical legibility could do with some work as well as the use of punctuation , but the speed at which he wrote was far above his peers when he wrote in his messy or normal style.
She pulled up a homemade deerskin blanket over him up to his neck idly rustling his hair between his ears.
Alex looked frustrated "why do you both do that"
Saya smiled increasing her speed "You're just too cute kid"
"Can we get my puppy tomorrow?" eyes gleaming
"He needs to be old enough son it's just the rules besides we need to get him a be-"
"He could sleep in here w...with me I guess"
Saya gave Alex a look
"We still need to prepare it's a lot of responsibility you know you didn't even decide on a name"
.
.
.
"Got one!"
"Mmm what is it?"
"Brun!"
"Like your dad? that would cause a lot of confusion and grief for your father" fixing a stern glare
Alex meeped
"I approve" She chuckled grinning at Alex
"Or if that doesn't work Kevin!"
"Why Kevin?"
"Why not it would be funny and Kevin is a pretty chill name"
'God you're adorable when you want to be'
Saya thought while chuckling and leaning over
"Don't let the bed bugs bite!"
"N'ight Mom"
Saya walked to the door turning off the light and closing it softly looking inwards while closing it.
'Okay so she takes five seconds to go down the hall 3...2 and 1' he peeled off the top covers enough to get his arms out pulling out his shoes from under his bead.
Selecting his right navy blue trainer and reaching inside feeling around the tip he found the edge of the pamphlet extracting it and putting his shoe back and covers on unfolding the crumpled pamphlet to its original form.
'Arrans school for gifted children a place ideal for top performers and children destined for greatness , a place that lays the foundations for a huntsmans career!'
Join now!
The rest of the pamphlet detailed the site itself and the location which surprisingly to Alex was in the dead centre of town near all the larger stores they occasionally visited.
'There is no way we could have naturally avoided this place'
He studied the map further it giving a rough approximation of where his school was in the town.
'Why do we always avoid this? my school journey could be quicker if we passed it wouldn't it?"
'Dad usually drives and is always going on about the cost of fuel but why go this longer distance just to avoid this place?'
Oh
He doesn't want me to go
Why? neither mom nor dad come from here dad tensed up when I caught him with this did miss Arran recommend it? Well that's kind of obvious , clues in the name so I guess he just doesn't want me to be a huntsman
'Obviously he has had a rough ride and Grandpa didn't live that long so I know its dangerous but why would he think that I would want to be a 'huntsman''
Something about the word just felt weird weren't they defenders not attackers against the grimm 'wouldn't guardians be more appropriate or paragons or something along those lines'
"For the morning I guess" he whispered tucking the pamphlet under his shirt and pulling the covers up again covering his mouth to yawn he relaxed and sleep quickly found him.
If one could call it that a few minutes of drowsy darkness lead to an odd feeling his head felt warm the back of his eyes felt a sort of numb to an outside observer his eyelids would twitch incredibly quickly.
The best he could describe them would be dreams he got them every night without fail he didn't think much of it as no one else talked about theirs.
They were always short odd hard to remember details of afterwards but he did have one re-occurring dream not a nightmare by any means just a dream.
About a world with a full moon.
Flashes each indistinct racked his brain he felt his eyes dart about under his eye lids on their own faces indistinct words numbers symbols letters , he didn't know why but he started to perform basic mathematical sums off of random numbers in his head thinking of common calculations with each value for no apparent reason but it is what he was doing.
8 hours later he woke most kids his age needed more sleep but he found himself waking up when his parents did naturally with hearing like his he could hear his mother's alarm clock on her bedside table.
Now for his next move.
So yeah let's see where it goes I honestly didn't expect any reviews but here we go.
Akurar: Agreed I have seen it executed better (The Pen and The Sword is a good example) but I want the full background so I don't confuse the readers or fall into the general OP OC category without there being a pretty bloody clear reason so I felt that making why he becomes powerful clear at the very first chapter was the best option.
Selfishgecko: Too long prologue eh maybe. I kind of want to stick to a regular chapter size of 6k
GuysLord: First compliment on a fanfic so thank you and I disagree. Maybe I have read too much but the same song and dance of encounter with Torchwick ,initiation ,early conversations with Ozpin and so on have been done already.
This story doesn't start at beacon hell it doesn't even start on the same dimensional plane ... probably I want to try writing a full background for a character and 'show' rather than tell via flashbacks.
The uncertainty provided by this method I think will let me keep up the suspense and tension better than having a flashback as if you are able to tell of it you probably survived it fine.
So yeah see you guys later
