Chapter 2: Visiting a ghost
Castiel finds himself enjoying his new workplace. His colleagues are nice and don't mind his strange behaviour that he shows sometimes. They talk with him and as far as Castiel can tell they don't make fun of him behind his back. He is in his second week as he sees him the first time. A small child, blond hair and a smile on his face running around the hall. First, he want to talk to the child, asking where his parents are but as he sees the green eyes Castiel knows that it is just one of the ghost he sees sometimes. It had surprised him that they aren't more of them in a place like this. He had never minded them. Sometimes they are aware enough to talk to him. Castiel even helped one to move on. The old man just had needed someone to talk too. This child is the first he sees here.
Castiel continues his work and finds the child later again, sitting on a chair next to the room of Mr. Morris and Dean. He likes to call the young man by his first name. He was just a child as he arrived here.
The hall is empty and Castiel decides that he can at least try to talk to the child. He sits down in the chair next to the ghosts and waits to see how aware the boy is about his surroundings. It turns out very. The boy looks up the second Castiel sits down and as their eyes meet the understanding of being seen flashes behind those green emeralds.
"Hi." Castiel says.
"Hi. I´m not allowed to speak to strangers." The boy answers.
"Oh, ok than how about I introduce myself. My name is Castiel, and I work as a nurse in this part of the hospital." Castiel waits.
"That's a funny name. I´m Dean. My family is in this room." He points at the door next to him.
"Hello Dean." Castiel offers a smile and sadly, to used to it, his mind makes the connection before the ghost can continue.
"My brother and my father cone here very often but I never go into the room. There is something bad in this room, so I stay here and wait." Dean looks down on his bare feet. Castiel notice that he is only wearing a pyjama and knows why he is wearing these clothes. "Why can you see me and talk to me?"
Castiel would like to hug the child but he knows he can´t. "I can see souls that walk around without bodies." Dean looks up at him confused. "I can see ghost, most people can´t. Like your father and brother. They don't ignore you, they just can´t see you."
"Oh. That makes sense." Dean looks at the door again. "So, I´m a ghost. Does that mean I´m dead?"
The older man shakes his head. "Maybe, I´m not sure Dean. In your case it means that your body is somewhere else, separated from your soul. You seem to keep holding on to this world."
"Cas?" Castiel lifts an eyebrow. "Can I call you Cas?" Castiel nods. "Can we talk again when we visit the next time?"
"Yes Dean, I would like that." As if they had waited for it the door opens and a pre-teen boy and a man in his late thirties leave the room. They look at Castiel for a second before they turn and leave. Dean jumps up and follows them.
"See you the next time, Cas." Dean waves his hand and hurries behind his living relatives.
Children are amazing, thinks Cas as he returns to his duty. He knocks at the door and enters the room where Mr. Morris and the empty body of Dean Winchester rests. Now he knows where the soul of it has gone. It walks around as his four-year-old self, wearing the clothes he had on as the fire took his home, his mother and nearly his life.
