CHAPTER TWO

River Creek:

As Nicole drifted down a foggy river in a small rowboat, she felt disoriented and confused. She was just at the River and now she was here. Suddenly distant screams from upstream filled the air and clouds of pink smoke but she could not see anything. She looked around for something to use to help direct the boat but nothing was available. "Help..." she yelled. "I need help..." she yelled again. "Waverly, Wynonna?" She continued drifting. "I was helping and then I..." she began to murmur. As she looked down, she found that her civic attire was no longer but now she wore a white sweatshirt and jeans. Suddenly the screams grew louder, she looked back...nothing. There was nothing there. Immediately she heard a familiar voice.

"Nicole?" a man yelled.

"Paul, I can't find her." A woman responded.

"Nic" he screamed one last time before it sounded like he was cut off followed by a woman's scream.

"I'M HERE!" She yelled but more screams began to drown hers out. As fear overwhelmed her, causing her breath to increase. "PLEASE, ANYBODY?" she screamed. Nobody was there. Nicole's eyes grew fearful, immediately she began to fall into a fetal position like a small child and cry. "Somebody!" She whispered. "Please...Aunt Eleanor, Uncle Paul."

After a few minutes, the rowboat slowed to a stop. She slowly lifted to find a young Nedley pulling the boat more onto the grass.

"Hey, sweetheart, I'm Deputy Sheriff Nedley. I'm here to help you. "he then grabbed his walkie. "Ward, I found a little girl, she seems to be alright but she's definitely from the concert visitors." He announced helping Nicole stand with his other hand. "Now take your time, that's it," he said as Nicole stepped out of the rowboat onto the grass.

"Nedley?" She whispered.

"That's right." He said looking down at this name patch. "I'm Deputy Sheriff Nedley and I'm here to help you, but first, do you have a name?"

"It's Nicole. Nicole Haught."

"Well Nicole, let's get you some help, ok?"

"Yeah, help." She said childlike.

Nedleys Bar and Grill (formerly Shorty's):

"So where is your better half, Jeremy?" Doc asked.

"Ah...Bunny is throwing an anti-Earp party and he said that at least someone should show up, so he's there..."

"Ah silly Bunny, did someone forget trix's are for kids," Wynonna added.

"Well, I've found that success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose." Doc added.

"That's very wise," Billy added.

"Yea, it was when Bill Gates said it first too." Jeremy corrected.

"Doesn't matter where I got it. It's still truthful." Doc replied.

"Hey, Doc, we need four rude sarsaparillas," Nedley called out.

"Four coming up," Doc replied leaving.

"Hey Wynonna, do you mind, if we talk?" Jeremy asked.

"Sure, Jere." She replied walking away with Jeremy.

"This is pretty amazing." Jeremy added "all of this. All that everyone has done to get us here."

"So why do I feel like there is a BBD size BUT coming."

"As you know, The Ghost River Triangle is now reformed and protected. Therefore, BBD hasn't had any paranormal events that warrant our attention. We've been focusing on implementing this same approach to other "unique" areas. This is why I've been asked to offer you a position as Special Agent and Opps Leader in another area."

"What? So BBD wants me to their grunt work?"

"We feel as though you, can work to establish this reform at another place that desperately needs attention. Wynonna, just imagine if BBD, didn't have the option of sending nukes to places and removing people but that there were towns and cities where people could model what Purgatory has graciously become."

"So, me taking down the big bads, establishing order?"

"Yes, but without a looming curse, just you, peacemaker, and a team of your choosing implementing the Purgatory model." He replied as Wynonna looked over at Doc who smiled passing drinks. She then looked over at Nicole coming into Nedley's with Alice.

"As much as it sounds nice and I do miss a good revenant death dance. I think I've learned it's time to focus on home and keeping my home going here in Purgatory. Sorry."

"No sorry's here, but the offer is still there, just in case you might get that itch to return to your gun-slinging days," Jeremy replied.

"Jeremy, your orders ready," Rachel announced.

"Let me know," Jeremy added walking away, Wynonna looked over at a poster of Wyatt on the wall standing near the corral.

"At least someone thinks I'm a gunslinger." Wynonna said to herself as Alice hugged her hips."So how was Wyatt park?"

"It was amazing, then I got to ride in the cop car with Aunt Nicole."

"Back seat?" Wynonna added.

"Of course," Alice said with a grin.

"So proud," Wynonna added.

"And she put the siren on."

"Nicole Haught, you…sly fox. I told Waverly, you had it in you." Wynonna added.

"You told me what about what?" Waverly replied coming over.

"My daughter was apprehended by the Sheriff and rode with sirens on."

"Really?" Waverly added looking at Nicole confused. "But you said you would never…"

"Sorry, the kid wanted it," Nicole replied. "If you'll excuse me," Nicole said leaving.

"Hey, darlin' can you get some fries from Nedley?" Wynonna asked.

"Sure." Alice said leaving.

"So, are we ready?"

"As I'll ever be," Waverly added.

"Aunt Wynonna or Aunty Why, I'm trying to figure out which one I prefer," Wynonna added as Waverly grinned.

Bathroom:

Nicole came in, she looked down under the stalls making sure no one was in there. She made her way to the mirror.

"My child, welcome to Purgatory. Soon you will unlock the door to my epic redemption and the Angel will be no more." The voice replied as Nicole shook her head yes.

"Yes, my lady."

"Now go." The voice replied.

The Bar:

Waverly stood dancing with Alice to the music when Nicole came over.

"Waves, I'm getting a little tired, do you think we can get out of here and"

"Sure," Waverly added. "I just need my Aunty power hug," Waverly added, as Alice hugged Waverly. "See you tomorrow Wynonna...early!"

"Noon it is," Wynonna replied with a smile.

The Red Jeep:

As Waverly grazed Nicole's right-hand fingers, settling into a handhold.

"I'd have to admit today was nice" Waverly added. "A real success."

"Thanks," Nicole replied kissing Waverly's hand while still focused on driving.

"Yes. You showed grace, strength, leadership. All the qualities, I love about you." Waverly replied. "That's also, why I've been considering our family."

"Family?" Nicole commented confused.

"Like our family, as in you and I.", Nicole looked at Waverly concerned.

"So you're like..."

"No, not yet, and not without your blessing. I've decided that I want to start IVF treatments. I mean Jeremy knows a Doctor who would be willing to come here and we can find a donor online of our choice nowadays."

"A child...your ready to have a child."

"I wasn't just thinking in "you" terms but for us," Waverly added.

"Waverly that's a lot to-"

"Ok, why don't we just talk about this in the morning, I'm sure it's been a long day," Waverly added, removing her hand.

Homestead:

Rachel, Wynonna, and Doc carrying a sleeping Alice on his shoulder got out and headed towards the homestead entrance.

"Hey Doc, I'll be in, in just a minute," Wynonna stated, as Doc nodded ok. Soon Wynonna found herself, in the barn. She walked over to an open area and moved a crate over. She stepped onto it and pulled from an opened plank in the ceiling. Taking out a black velvet bag, she stepped back down and opened it revealing a nicely preserved peacemaker.

"Hey, old friend." She said holding it up and pointing it towards an empty area. Suddenly, she had it facing Rachel. "Geez, make some noise and identify yourself." She said lowering peacemaker.

"So you're considering the job offer?" Rachel replied.

"What?"

"Billy works in the offices of BBD, he overhears things."

"Well, what about a certain acceptance letter?" Wynonna added.

"Nedley said he didn't tell anyone."

"Nedley shouldn't leave papers on his desk, that his co-owners wife snoops and sees because she may or may not add to their whiskey orders to ensure her supply at home is covered," Wynonna added as Rachel shook her head. "But enough about my transgressions, why haven't you accepted or told your purgatory Moms?"

"I haven't decided," Rachel replied

"Well, Rachel, you're almost eighteen soon and life is so much more than Ghost River Triangle. My time here was crap but I wasn't given much of a choice. You have a choice, you have the opportunity to do so. Plus home will always be here and whether that home leads you back here to serve under an awesome red-haired Sheriff or some secret paranormal elite division with a nerdy Director, home is forever. We will always keep home fires burning."

"Unless you leave," Rachel added.

"Well for your information, I'm not," Wynonna replied. "I turned it down."

"So why do you need a peacemaker?"

"Because occasionally, it's important to check on old friends."

"Yea, old friend," Rachel added sarcastically. Wynonna then rolled her eyes and put peacemaker back in its bag.

The Sheriff's office:

Nicole sat facing Nedley in his office as he wrote on a paper.

"I know I'm somewhere in the ghost river triangle. I can't leave it, so we have to be in it." Nicole started catching her barrings "I was looking for a woman."

"You're right." Suddenly Nedley's eyes faded to an auburn glowing color.

"Who are you? And what do you want with me ?" Nicole replied.

"My dear, my issues are not with you, Your nothing more than a pawn in a long-awaited reckoning. As far as who I am, we'll let's just say I'm an old friend and you and I, well will be together for a while."

The Haughts:

Waverly slammed a plate into the dishwater and began to aggressively wash it, as Nicole entered.

"I told Rachel to clean these before we left," Waverly said angrily.

"Oh, you did," Nicole said coming over behind Waverly.

"Yeah, and now they're disgusting and harden."

"Oh, well I have a trick for that," Nicole said putting her arms around Waverly and caressing Waverly's hands. suddenly she began to nibble on Waverly's neck, as Waverly fell into Nicole's body. "See, sometimes you just have to brush it slow and steady," Nicole added moving Waverlys hands in the water.

"Um, you're not going to get off that easy," Waverly added as Nicole continued to kiss her neck.

"Oh, I wouldn't have it any other way..."Nicole forced Waverly to let go of the plate. She then turned her around facing her. "Let's make a baby." She added as Waverly's face lit into a grin.

"Really?"

"Yes." She replied, suddenly Waverly began to kiss Nicole passionately. As Nicole lifted Waverly as if they crossed the threshold and whisked her away into another room to the tune of her giggles.
