A blast of void energy detonated on the ground as Aunor dove for cover. The force of the blast flinging her across the destroyed rubble of EDZ buildings. Dust swirled around her as she pushed herself up, feeling warm liquid running down her side. Pain shit through her body as she stood. A rush of wind was heard overhead. Aunor picked up her weapon and looked to see a warlock gliding towards her.
"You should have stayed in the tower Praxic." The warlock spat at her. "Maybe then you would have survived a little longer."
Aunor fired off shots at the approaching warlock as she ran into the blown out remains of a store."This is your last chance, Zaylin." Aunor called out as she peered around a corner, trying to get visual on her target.
"My last chance?" Zaylin questioned, bemused at the idea of his prey making such a declaration. He chuckled. "How can you possibly think that you'll win here?"
Aunor felt a surge of relief and warmth as her ghost began healing her wound, the pain in her side left and her breathing settled.
"I'll give you some respect," Zaylin continued "you did kill Myric and that's not easy to do but let's face it, Praxic," Zaylins voice lowered in tone and filled with malice "Your on your last limb."
Aunor heard a familiar crackling. Not of arc lightning but that of stasis darkness. She quickly jumped to the side as three bolts of ice pierced the floor where she stood.
"You think your darkness can cage me as easily as it did you?" She yelled as she pulled out a launcher and fired at Zaylin. A wall of ice appeared as the rocket slammed into it
"Caged? I'm not cage by anything anymore, the darkness freed me"
Zaylin peppered Aunors position with more bolts of ice as he pressed forward into the building she was in.
"It freed me of the chains the Vanguard hold, of fulfilling a will that's not my own!"
"I don't care what your reasons are, you had your chance to stop peacefully." Aunor called as she jumped out a hole in a wall and took to the EDZ forest.
She took up a firing position on a hill over looking the area she was just in.
"You'll see the truth I know, they all will!"
Zaylin said as he rushed out of the wall only to be greeted with another rocket
Hitting him dead center, the blast forced him through the store's walls and into another section of forest.
Aunor jumped down to the cloud of dust and debris, following the path Zaylin flew. Sprinting through the cloud, Aunor readied her weapon, as she cleared the other side, she didn't see his body any where.
Moving To the opposing hillside, she heard the faint sound or a ghost resurrection and run quickly towards it.
As she created the hill she could here Zaylins voice.
"Y-youre supposed to be a myth" she heard the warlock sputter, fear clear in his voice.
Then she heard the unmistakable sound of three blasts of a golden revolver and then a pause followed by one last shot.
Aunor sprinted even faster to find A hooded man standing over a shadow of ash.
"Malphur." Aunor spoke "What are you doing here?"
"Cleaning up your vanguard's mess." He answered plainly. "You already know that we don't kill guardians."
"Guardians? You call that pathetic garbage a guardian, openly casting down the light and claiming to be stronger in the dark?" Shin turned to Aunor. " How is that a guardian? They are no better than the fallen. Clawing at any scrap of power they can get their hands on."
"We rehabilitate them in the tower." She spoke with irritation
"How can you rehabilitate someone addicted to the darkness when you let it into the city?" He spoke low-key but his words carried anger
"I didn't, I hate that they lifted the ban on it's usage. The van-"
"The Vanguard does what it pleases and you follow their beck and call like an attack dog. Those floodgates were opened the moment your hero came back from that ice ball." There was a moment's pause as they stared at each other. Then Aunor let out a breath and holstered her weapon
"You and I both know that if anyone, Guardian, Dredgen, Shadow or anything could balance the light and dark, would be him."
Shin Malphur released his golden gun as it dissipated into nothingness.
"I do agree with you." He replied "But it's clear that there are far more willing to give up the light for power."
"And that's why we're to capture them and bring them back."
" It's clear you don't believe that." Shin looked coldly at her. "It's clear on your face, you're tired of this."
Aunor did not respond. The two stared at each other once more. "Well as much as chatting with you, I have a ghost to collect." Aunor stated as she turned to leave.
"Don't bother." Malphur replied
"You killed the ghost didn't you?" Aunor question, already knowing the answer.
"I'm doing what you lack the stomach to do."
Once again, Aunor didn't respond. Instead, she continued walking away as she transmitted to her ship.
