Chapter 2:

Subaru woke up in the carriage, his head was still hurting from the encounter with Elsa. Subaru got up and saw Reinhard also resting while sitting.

"I have to thank him when he wakes up" Subaru murmured.

He heard the birds singing as if they were welcoming him. He looked outside while the carriage was still moving. He looked at the sunrise with admiration to the view.

Then remembered something, not something but someone.

"Satella!" he gasped.

Reinhard recoiled in fear.

"I'm sorry Reinhard, I didn't mean to wake you up," Subaru said with a sad tone.

"Don't worry, Lord Subaru." he smiled back to Subaru.

"What about her? Is Satella okay? the half-elf I was with at the loot house." he asked with concern

"Is there any chance that maybe you were referring to Lady Emilia?"

"Who is Emilia?" he asked but then remembered.

"Yeah... now that I think of it, She said Satella wasn't her real name." He looked at Reinhard with a fake smile.

"You know I've had girls just refused to talk to me but this the first time that someone gave me a fake name to avoid me." Subaru laughed.

He looked at Reinhard. "Do I look that bad?"

Subaru kept his gaze on Reinhard. "Now that I'm looking at you. Fuck! You are truly handsome."

"Lord Subaru, I'm sorry but I couldn't follow." Young knight explained.

"Don't worry, Reinhard. I'm just trying to figure out how deep down I'm in the food chain with this face." he pointed his own face and laughed.

Reinhard didn't understand anything from Subaru's rantings.

"Where are we heading right now?" Subaru asked.

"We are on our way to see an experienced healer," Reinhard explained.

"The healers under my command couldn't find a reason for your injuries." Reinhard continued.

"Oh... Should I be worried" Subaru looked a bit pale.

"Don't be, Lord Subaru. Sir Felix is the best healer you can find in Lugunica." He was proud of his friend.

Subaru was looking through Reinhard's eyes. "Ummm... Reinhard?"

"Yes, Lord Subaru?" Reinhard turned to see Subaru"

"Why are you so colorful?" Subaru asked.

Reinhard was looking at the boy in front of him. He couldn't understand a thing from what he said. Subaru was staring at him and then tears started to fall from his eyes.

All he was seeing was the colors of the man in front of him. His colors were so full of life, Subaru was astonished by his colors. Subaru also realized he was giving a bit of color to his surroundings. Subaru cried more for the view he was seeing.

Reinhard was sad for seeing Subaru like that.

"Lord Subaru?" he asked.

"Sorry, Reinhard," he said while gasping for air.

"You truly are a beautiful person," Subaru said while smiling, there were still tears in his eyes.

Reinhard was in shock after hearing this, a beautiful person? Is Subaru really think of him as like that? Not a monster but a beautiful person.

Tears have also begun to fall from Reinhard's eyes.

"Do you really see me as that kinda person Lord Subaru?" he asked while crying.

"Yes, Reinhard. You are the most beautiful person I have seen so far, my friend." Subaru smiled.

Who was this guy coming out of nowhere? Making me cry and befriending me in just a day. The power he holds is also unknown but he used his powers to save Lady Emilia in the slums. He also showed great kindness toward that girl and his guardian. How could someone can be this kind. Reinhard thought to himself.

"Sir Reinhard, We arrived." a feminine voice called.

Subaru looked outside and saw a large mansion. Reinhard and Subaru get out of the carriage. Subaru looked back to see what was driving and he saw a blonde girl

in a maid uniform, she had big green eyes. Her colors were lovely too. Subaru smiled at her. She suddenly blushed and smiled back then quickly drove the carriage to escape the situation leaving Subaru with a smile.

"Well... that was cute." Subaru giggled and walked to the mansion.

At the mansion door, three people were standing, one of them was an old man in his fifties dressed as a butler. The Butler looked like he can't stand being near Reinhard.

His colors were a bit pale from the rest. The other one was a demi-human who looked like an amalgamation of a human and a cat. The colors of the young demi-human

were lovely as well. The green-haired woman was standing in the middle of the trio. She was beautiful with her amber eyes and her green hair, but Subaru didn't care any of that,

The young boy was mesmerized by her powerful colors, he knew she was someone who holds power.

"Welcome to House Karnstein," The butler said with a deep voice.

"Thanks for letting us in Lady Crusch," Reinhard said while bowing to her.

Subaru also bowed to her after seeing Reinhard.

"Subaru shouldn't have bowed to her, they are on the same level." Reinhard thought.

"I should've told him earlier that he is a Royal Candidate. Reinhard was angry with himself.

"There is no need to thank me, Reinhard-sama," she said with a smile.

She turned her gaze to the boy who was standing beside the young knight. She saw his black and white hair, it was odd for someone to have that much white hair on his age.

Then their eyes met with each other. She saw the light in his right eye looking at her with admiring, but then all of the feelings disappeared as she looked at his left eye.

It was an eye of the dead, an eye that has seen too much horror, just looking at it sent chills down to her spine. The old butler also saw the boy's left eye. He knew what he was seeing.

He saw age in the boy's eye.

"So may I ask what brought Sword Saint here?" She asked.

"We need Sir Felix's assistance with something," Reinhard spoke back

"Where are the injured, Nya" Catboy jumped from his chair.

"He is here" Reinhard spoke while pointing to Subaru.

"The healers in my mansion couldn't find the problem with Subaru so I had to bring him to the greatest healer in Lugunica," Reinhard explained.

The trio was looking at Subaru with wide eyes.

"Ughh... Hello everyone, sorry for the disturbing we are causing." Subaru gave a half-smile.

"Felix take a look at him please," Crusch asked Felix.

Felix came closer to the boy and took him to another room. Reinhard continued.

"When I first met with Subaru he still had his both eyes and his hair was completely black. I sensed something was wrong with him but the power was so weak so I let it pass.

While I was still in town two people came and told me their friend got hurt by a lunatic with different eye colors and black and white hair. They told me to go find Loot House in the slums. It was night when I get there and something was going at the loot house. I got in and saw Subaru was successfully holding off Elsa Grianhart, The Bowel Hunter. I defeated her quıckly.

I was sure I had to do something about Subaru but he did the most unexpected thing to do, He showed great kindness towards the people who caused this and he even helped them to get out of the slums. I also learned he was at the loot house only for the sole purpose of helping someone and at that moment I learned something else. The power he holds is unknown but I trust her kindness".

Reinhard explained everything he knows.

"Can you take out your clothes please Subaru-kun" Felix spoke

"Ughh... Okay?" Subaru slowly took out his clothes.

"Now lay down and close your eyes," Felix said with a smile.

"Oi, I have a bad feeling about this," Subaru said nervously.

"Don't worry, Nyaa!" Felix laughed at the boy.

Felix then proceeds to put his hand at Subaru's chest and pushes some mana into him. Subaru felt the flow of the mana coming from Felix. They kept this up for twenty minutes.

Subaru got up and looked at Felix. He was looking frightened and his skin was pale. They slowly got back to the room they came from. Reinhard and Crusch were waiting for them.

"It took long enough don't you think huh?" Reinhard said. Subaru smiled at Reinhard.

"What did you find Felix?" Crusch asked catboy.

"There are no fatal injuries and his gate is brand new but..." Felix's voice died.

"But?, What!" Reinhard raised his voice.

"I sensed something other than Subaru deep inside him." Felix was looking at Subaru.

"I tried to understand what was that but it was too deep for me to reach." Felix continued.

"I felt so old when I first encountered it. I felt like I was centuries old." Felix broked down while explaining.

Crusch quickly held her knight and hugged him. She had never seen Felix this broken. Crusch stared at Subaru.

"If a mere sight of it can break someone like Felix this easily, I cannot imagine what power this boy holds.

Felix was still crying like there was no tomorrow for him. Reinhard and Subaru looked at each other. Reinhard was scared of his friend's behavior. Subaru was a bit sad from all of this.

He knew he was the one who caused all this but in the end. Subaru was looking down at crying Felix with a blank face. If he was unfazed by what was happening.

Reinhard apologized to Crusch for the trouble they caused and looked at Felix one last time. Reinhard felt hatred towards himself. Subaru saw this while they were walking to their carriage. Subaru stood in front of Reinhard and spoke.

"Why do you look that sad, You haven't done anything bad yet. Felix got hurt because of me, not you!" Subaru yelled.

"If you are gonna be someone who thinks they can take everyone's suffer, just try it and fail goddammit!" Subaru was looking through his eyes.

"You cannot blame yourself for everything. Blame someone else for one time. Blame me for hurting Felix, despise me, detest me, try to get avenge your friend. Have some pride!" Subaru yelled out.

Reinhard looked at him and saw his tears falling from his right eye but his left eye was just staring back at him coldly as always.

"Lord Subaru and Sir Reinhard." a low crying voice called for them.

The blonde maid was crying while sitting in front of the carriage. Subaru saw her crying.

"Reinhard look what have I done." he gave a wide smile and walked up to the carriage.

"Like if it's not enough what I have done in the mansion, the moment I got outside I made a beautiful maid cry. I am such a horrible person." Subaru gave an adorable smile to the maid

and also put down his hand on his friend's shoulder. Reinhard was taken back from all of this. The maid was blushed but there were still tears in her eyes.

"Shall we go?" Subaru asked.

Reinhard was still confused after what happened. He was looking at Subaru with a weak smile.

"I'm here as a friend of yours so act like I'm one of them, " Subaru told to him.

"Yes, Lord Subaru." Reinhard smiled with happiness.

"Oh yeah..." Subaru stopped. "Also what's with all the 'Lord Subaru stuff, I don't even know why you are still so kind to me, after all I've done."

"Lord Subaru," Reinhard said, interrupting Subaru's train of thought. "I need to show you this," Reinhard dropped a small item into his palm.

It was a silver token engraved with a dragon. A small red jewel was embedded in the middle.

"Wait for a second!" Subaru exclaimed. "This was Satella's! Why the hell do you have it?"

"This is not Lady Emilia's, Lord Subaru," Reinhard corrected him. "This insignia is yours."

"Oh... okay?. So, can you explain what's up with this insignia?' Subaru asked.

"Of course," Reinhard said.

Reinhard paused as a thought occurred to him. "What do you know about the Witch of Envy?" He asked.

"Never heard of her," Subaru replied. "As far as I know I haven't met any witches."

Reinhard nodded. This was why he'd used the name 'Satella' so lightly, although it did beg the question of why Lady Emilia had told him that was her name. "The Witch of Envy is considered to be the most terrible monster in the history of this world. She covered the planet in shadows and consumed half the world."

Subaru whistled. "Sounds like a nasty piece of work."

Reinhard nodded. "She was ultimately captured and sealed away by great heroes four hundred years ago. One of them being the dragon Volcanica. Since that time the dragon has entered into a pact with the royalty of this land. He vowed to protect and guide our land for all eternity."

"That was nice of him," Subaru commented.

"Yes but the covenant with the dragon is jeopardized because the royal family has recently died out," Reinhard continued.

Subaru's eyes widened. "What? The whole family?"

Reinhard nodded. "They were stricken with a strange plague that seemed to afflict no one but the royals themselves. The royal physicians did their best but they were helpless to save them.

"Did you notice how the gem in the insignia glowed when you picked it up, Lord Subaru?" Reinhard asked.

Subaru looked at his palm and saw that the gem did indeed glow.

"Yes," Subaru said. "I mean, now that you've mentioned it I've noticed," He said with a chuckle.

"I saw the Lady Emilia's insignia glow in your hand at the loot house last night. This told me that you were worthy to carry an insignia," Reinhard explained.

Subaru cocked his head. "OK, neat, but I'm still not sure I understand what this insignia means."

"The insignia glows only if it is held by someone with the qualifications to reforge the pact with the great Dragon," Reinhard said. "Someone with the right to be chosen as King."

Subaru stared at Reinhard for a long moment. "Pardon?" Subaru looked around to see if Reinhard was talking to someone else.

"You're not serious," Subaru shook his head.

"I assure you, I am entirely serious," Reinhard replied.

How could I possibly rule over this country? Do I have to stand for election? If this is fulfilling some kind of weird prophecy, would they even let me back out?

Would I have to run whether I like it or not? Do overly popular candidates commonly get 'sick' and die during the election? And how does this election work?

Is there campaigning and making speeches? Is it whoever kills the most foes gets the crown?

On second thought, maybe this really isn't such a bad idea, Subaru thought to himself. Think about it. You are from an advanced culture, both socially and technologically.

You were never the most attentive student of social studies but you know what worked and what failed on Earth over the past few centuries. Earth is centuries, maybe thousands of years more advanced than Lagunica, and all that knowledge are yours. Even simple tricks and innovations that are household knowledge back home could revolutionize these people's lives.

Of course, they would want you to be king. Who else could be more qualified to lead them to peace and prosperity than someone with literal knowledge of the future? Look at it another way: if you being in power could save lives, do you really have any right to refuse? This isn't about being power hungry or seeking your own glory. If you are the person most qualified to lead this nation, wouldn't it be selfish of you to deny yourself to these people?

You were brought to this world because you deserve it. Who else but you could be worthy to sit on the throne?

A smile has begun to for in his face but it burnt out quickly.

"Wait a minute! Satel... Emilia also carries insignia, is that means we are rivals now?" Subaru asked Reinhard in panic.

"Yes, Lord Subaru, Lady Emilia is also qualified for the election.

"Well, that messed up everything" Subaru sighed.

"Hold one You also called Crusch as a Lady, Is she also qualified." Subaru's panic grew more.

"Yes, Lord Subaru, She is also a Royal Candidate.

"Why didn't you tell me this before Reinhard, I just bowed to her an hour ago."

Reinhard excepted his mistake.

"I'm so sor..." he tried to apologize but he got cut by Subaru's stern voice.

"Don't ever say that you are sorry for this simple thing" Reinhard looked up and saw Subaru smiling.

"If you apologize for everything, your apology will start to lose its meaning," Subaru said while keeping his smile.

Reinhard looked at his lord with astonishment, He knew he could trust his kindness. He once again vows to himself for being worthy enough for his lord.

"So tell me Reinhard, are you my bodyguard or something?" Subaru asked

"Yes, my Lord, myself will be your assigned knight for the selection," Reinhard stated.

"So cool... So I have a personal knight and he is my best friend." Subaru laughed with joy.

"What could've I wanted more,"

"Thanks for being with me Reinhard" Subaru smiled and blinked.

"So this is what kinda person my Lord is. Under his stern look a there is a heart filled with kindness, joy and life." He thought to himself.

He clenched his fist and quietly spoke under his breath. "This is what kinda person my lord is!"

One hour passed since they left House Karnstein. Subaru looked at The sleeping Reinhard and quietly laughed at the sight he was seeing.

He got up and quickly open the hatch to get in front of the carriage. The blonde maid was still driving the carriage.

"Do you need any help?" Subaru asked.

The young maid jumped in fear and she almost fell from the carriage.

"Whoa whoa, I'm sorry. I didn't want to scare you." Subaru said.

"It's nothing, my Lord."

"Nothing? You almost died. Do you consider your life as nothing?" Subaru didn't want to get an answer so he continued.

"Well, I don't consider your life as nothing so be careful next time okay?" Subaru smiled and the maid blushed again.

"I didn't hear your name," Subaru said to the maid.

The maid turned to Subaru and her lips moved.

"My... my name is Eliza," She said and quickly turned to the road trying to hide her blood-red face.

"Well that's a pretty name" Subaru smiled while getting inside of the carriage before closing the hatch Subaru spoke.

"If you need anything, wake me up first, we wouldn't want to wake this young knight from his beauty sleep." Subaru smiled at her.

"Of course my Lord," she said while giggling.

Subaru laid down after closing the hatch. He was happy, he felt the peace to his core. He closed his eyes and waited for the darkness to take him.
