Part Two

The trauma caused by the events with the criminal syndicate that kidnapped her daughter Sayu and took her to America had developed into a debilitating form of PTSD.

Sachiko had to push Sayu everywhere in a wheelchair. They were at the family cabin that bordered on the forests' of Hokkiado and Jozankei that collectively made up the forest area where they were. Currently, Sayu needed twenty-four hour care.

With Sachiko Yagami's husband dead and their family torn, their lives changed forever, Sachiko blamed Kira. Kira had a hand in their family's demise. Light was on the hunt for Kira, but nothing would bring back her husband back or heal her daughter.

From what Sachiko had been told, in bits and pieces from Light, the head of the crime syndicate had pointed a gun to Sayu's face and pulled the trigger. A piece of reinforced glass had been between them, but it was enough to cause severely mental trauma. And all for what? No one would tell her the full story, supposedly the whole affair had been classified due to the nature and severity of the case.

The phone rang, a satellite line. She had the phone with her, outside. Sayu sat in her wheelchair, her eyes looked out straight, almost lifeless. What was she thinking? What was she going through in her mind? Was she replaying the events over and over, torturing herself, and reinforcing the shock of it? Her doctor said it would take time to recover, a lot of time.

Sachiko had brought Sayu to the cabin to help her recover.

Sachiko answered the phone. Her eyes widened when she heard his voice. Light was now the last bastion to her husband with Sayu in this condition.

"Mom? How's Sayu?" Light asked. "Is there any change in her condition?"

Sachiko felt like crying, but she held back. "No, Light—no change," she said.

There was a sigh on the other end of the line and a sizeable pause. Then: "I'll find him, Mom. I'll find the bastard that did this to her. Mello's a dead man!"

"Don't say that, Light. You're a police officer now and revenge is beneath you. Your father would not want you to jeopardize your career. I married him knowing what I was getting into. I just never thought things would turn out like this. I don't want to lose you, either. Thank god for your father's pension and life insurance."

Another pause, then Light said, "You're strong, Mom. But trust me when I say, I'll find Mello and made him pay. Mark my words, as a police officer and as your son."

She smiled. "I know you will, Light. I trust you will."

Sachiko then began to cry.

When their phone conversion ended, Light leaned back in his chair at his computer station, and let out a heavy sigh. He knew his mother didn't want him to jeopardize his career, but he was Kira, and he vowed get his revenge on Mello no matter the cost!

Light began a search on the Dark Web for any signs of criminal activity with any of Mello's former gang. Some of them had survived the explosion that took his father's life and he knew their names. He didn't want to kill them, not yet. He'd use them, follow their movement, and then ensnare them to tell him everything about Mello.

Then he found something, a cache of a conversion with the name Mello from a website called "Criminals Anonymous"—a rather stupid name, if he said so—and yet it had some of the best encryption he'd seen. But it was no match for his expertise and he managed to hack in fully. He found the cached conversion and read it. It was between two people with a connection to Mello. He had the IP address, both were in California.

No matter what anyone thought, nothing was ever deleted completely. There was always a record or a cache of it somewhere on the internet.

It was time to dispatch Ryuk for some information gathering. He exited the site, locked his computer, and excused himself from his station—and from other task force members that were seated in his living room and working on their own leads—and explained he needed to use the washroom.

Here, Light spoke to Ryuk, and told him what he wanted the god of death to do.

And with the way Light phrased it, it was an order!

Neither one of them were on a wanted list, so it was easy to board a plane, and fly to Japan.

On the flight, Matt and Chastity got frisky, and had sex in the bathroom. It was exciting and risky, but it was also adventurous to see if they could get away with it. They did, and they enjoyed every moment of it.

Chastity asked Matt if he would ever consider a three-some. Matt said he was not averse to it, but when she suggested with another guy he flat out refused.

When the plane landed, they rented a vehicle. Matt wanted something sporty, but Chastity wanted something practical and with good gas mileage and that would protect them from the elements because of their intended destination. So, they decided on a Land Rover, and she drove. They flipped for who would drive, and Matt lost. They purchased supplies and packed for a six hour drive.

As Chastity drove, Matt navigated via satellite fix. They had saved the coordinates from Chastity's phone when she found the cabin in the woods and now they were close. The cabin belonged to the former chief of police Soichiro Yagami, now deceased. He had been killed during the raid that nearly incinerated Mello. Mello, at the moment, was being taken care of by a friend in America.

When they pulled up to the wooden cabin after travelling through densely packed forest, it was a sight to behold. It was not your typical single level log cabin and appeared to have add-ons from a previous construction. It was the size of a two-story house with multiple rooms. And it has a wonderful view of a creek. With the sound of soft sounding water running through over rocks it was a very serene place.

This is where Sachiko Yagami had brought Sayu after her daughter's encounter with Mello, after Sayu Yagami had been returned to Japan. Though information collected, Sayu now suffered from PTSD from the incident. It would stand to reason that anyone subjected to such a thing would suffer from severe mental stress.

"Nice place," Chastity remarked.

"Yeah, and I think after we do what we've come to do, we burn it down," Matt said. They had talked about what they were going to do when they arrived.

Chastity was stunned. "And why on earth why? It's beautiful here, and a fire would set the surrounding forest ablaze. I'm an environmentalist!"

Matt eyed her. "I was kidding," he said, as he lit a cigarette. "But I'm jealous. This cabin must be worth a pretty penny and on a cop's salary?

"Not our concern, and put that away! Do you want to start a fire?"

"Smoking helps with my anxiety." Chastity looked at him. "What?" he asked, as he look a puff and blew smoke out of the side of mouth. "You wanna do it here?"

Chastity rolled her eyes. "No," she said. "Do you notice that everyone from Wammy House has come sort of peculiarity? You smoke—"

"That's hardly a peculiarity," Matt retorted. "Tens of millions of people smoke."

"I wasn't done. I mean, you smoke, Mello craves chocolate, Near twirls his hair, and thinking back, everyone else at the orphanage had a quirk."

"And your quirk is being promiscuous?"

Chastity sighed annoyed. "Would you like me to slap you?"

"You've done worse. But I enjoy it." Matt smiled playfully, rotating the cigarette in his mouth from one side to the next. "Ironic that you chose a pseudonym that's diametric of your true nature and of your 'quirk' to protect you from Kira."

"Your pseudonym is nothing special, Matt."

Matt eyed her. "Do you want to stand here and debate names? Can we get on with this operation? We're here to finish what Mello started before that nasty business got him sidelined. Kira is on the Kira Task Force and I want him. Kidnapping Yagami's mother and sister is my way to secure that he comes to us; here."

"Fine, let's do it!"

Matt turned and looked himself in the side mirror. His dark, brown hair and blues eyes prominent in the reflection. He wore a cameo-vest over a red and black striped shirt and dark pants with boots. He winked at himself and told himself he looked good. He reached into a hip holster and pull out a Glock pistol and cocked it.

Chastity wore a full bodysuit with a matching cameo-vest with dark boots. She opened the rear seat doors and pulled out an Ak-47 rifle in a metal box.

They came prepared and they weren't going to leave without business finished.

An hour after the task force departed, Light sat alone in his apartment.

Misa was on one her many commercial shoots and Light was left to do his judgements with the Death Note, but none of the names of criminals he wrote down satisfied him. He wanted Mello. But even if he had a name, he didn't have a face.
Mad, Light look a flower vase and threw it against a wall. It shattered and crashed on the hardwood floor. It once had flowers from his father's old precinct with a sympathy card, but after the flora had wilted and died, the vase sat empty. Now it was in pieces.

Ryuk finally returned. "Where the hell have you been?" Light demanded.

Ryuk looked at the vase, then at Light. "Out hunting for clues, like you said."

"And? Did you find Mello?"

With a shake of the head, the god said, "Nope, but I did find something else. And it's a doozy!"
