Ch 2
Lunch had consisted of all six girls at our table giggling and swooning nonstop over the "Hot Viking" from Norway. Ivar had acquired his first Kattegat High nickname. In record time too, he had only been here for what, 3 hours?
I didn't see Ivar for the rest of the school day. I had hoped he would be in my afternoon classes too but no such luck. The day done, I was walking home from school when about 2 blocks from my house I heard the distinctive sound of a motorcycle coming up behind me. I stepped off the road on to the grass to be sure I was out of the way and turned to see who could possibly be riding around Kattegat on a motorcycle. I certainly didn't know of anyone who rode one maybe it was a police officer?
The motorcycle was almost next to me now and I could hear it slowing. My heartbeat increased as I felt a little scared of this stranger on wheels. It wasn't a cop, I could see that now. Who was it..? The bike slowed and actually came to a stop next to me. The rider had on a black helmet with a dark visor, and tight black leather jacket. I stopped and faced him:
"Can I help you?"
The rider flips the dark visor up to reveal two striking blue eyes that I immediately recognized. Holy fuck, this gorgeous guy from my English class also rides a motorcycle? I tried really hard not to drool all over my shoes.
"Hi Sarah" Ivar answered, voice a little muffled by his helmet. "Do you live around here?"
I blink a few times, "Uh, Hi Ivar. I uh, yeah. Umm, I live just up this way."
I can see him smile in his helmet. "Oh really? Great, so do I."
What?? He lives right near me? Sweet baby Jesus thank you for small favours. I some how collect myself to ask him "oh nice, whereabouts?".
He turns off his bike and removes his helmet setting it down in front of him resting his arms across it. Reveal again that gorgeous hair of his. "We moved in to the blue house on Teatree lane".
That is literally one street over from mine. Wait...is that the blue house with yellow shutters that I can see from my backyard? I must find out. I make a mental note to check it out later.
"Oh wow, that's around the corner from me."
Ivar's gorgeous eyes flick up to mine from under thick dark lashes and he grins almost shyly. "Really? What a coincidence, I get to sit next to you in class and live next to you too?"
My breath catches for a split second, is he flirting with me? This gorgeous "Hot Viking" is flirting with me when he could have any of the girls at Kattegat High? Nah. Not possible. He's just being polite.
I'm not sure what to say to that but I'm sure he sees me blush. A bit of an awkward silence ensues as I don't know what to say after that.
Ivar restarts his bike and right before putting his helmet back on he says "It was nice seeing you again Sarah. I should get going as I have a lot of unpacking to do and I have to start on that poem Mr. Britain assigned". He slides his helmet over his head and clicks it in place. He looks at me with those eyes one last time before lowering the dark visor hiding them from me yet again.
"Yeah, I have to get that poem done too! I'm so terrible at poetry".
Ivar inclines his head to the side like a dog might do when they are questioning you. "I doubt that."
With that he revs the bike's engine and the vibration literally hits me so deep in my nether regions that l have to stop myself from moaning. He waves with two fingers and takes off down the road turning down his new street.
I continue my way the last two blocks to my street, stopping to look down TeaTree lane and sure enough there is a moving truck unloading at the blue house with yellow shutters. Of course he would live in the blue house.
I get home and my mom is in the kitchen singing along to her favourite Beatles playlist on spotify while make dinner.
"Hey Mom! I'm home!"
"Hey sweetie! How was your day?" My mom
says while walking out of the kitchen wiping her hands on the tea towel.
"It was ok. We got a new student today. The family moved here from Norway."
"Norway, really? Wow." My mom said while turning around to head back to her cooking and Paul McCartney.
I called after her "Yeah, and they moved in to the Schuler's old house on TeaTree".
I didn't get a response. Not sure she heard me over sir Paul's lyrics. So I grabbed my backpack and headed upstairs to start my homework.
Got to my room and flipped on my laptop. I opened the window and popped my head out, sure enough, my view, if I looked over to the right, was of the back of that blue house with yellow shutters. I wonder if Ivar's room was at the back of the house too? Hmmm..my eyes lingered on that back window.
I sat down in front of my laptop and attempted to focus on this iambic pentameter I had to write, but all I could focus on was the fact that the "Hot Viking" with azure blue eyes, lived about 100 feet away.
I was in trouble, and I knew it.
