April 13th 1912

"So you wanna go to a real party?" He stared directly at her, a mischievous grin plastered all over his face. Walking down the steps he was in front of her. Took her hand and led her all the way down to the lower decks. She checked behind her a few times to make sure if no one was watching. Jack blended in completely with everyone else, making no one suspicious with their getaway. Rose noticed quickly that they were heading down two the third class general room, the same place she came down to to look for him earlier this day. As they stood right on top of the stairs, music could be heard as well as laughter. The sound of shoes clicking on the floor, glasses shattering. Jack looked amusingly at the girl next to him. She looked shocked in some way, yet intrigued by this unknown world.

"I can take you back to your cabin if you don't want to, Rose."

"No." She shook her head heavily and walked down in front of him. Heads turned towards them as they mingled into the crowd. Fabrizio and Tommy directly headed up to the pair and handed them both a big pint. Jack lead her to a table nearby where his Swedish roommates almost dropped their jaws on the floor by the sight of this angelic creature as she took a seat next to them.

"You are alright?" Jack asked her.

"Yes, Jack. I'm doing wonderful." She laughed and then pointed at a little girl behind him, "I think you have a secret admirer."

Confused, Jack turned around and smiled at who was waiting for his attention. "Cora, darling. You wanna dance?"

The little girl nodded and he took her gently by her hands. Rose watched in pure joy as the little girl twirled around and laughed. The two Swedish men turned towards her and asked her a few questions in a language Rose had never heard in her life. She took her gaze back towards him, then slowly scanned the whole area, noticing things she had not noticed before this morning. Earlier this day her mind was only focused on this stranger that had saved her life. And now, only after a few hours she seemed to look at these people a whole lot different. Some where still staring, but she didn't mind. The way they acted with one another, the way they behaved in general, these people all seemed more superior than her kind. She was put back into reality quickly as she could make up the sound of his voice through the chatter and all the music.

"I'm gonna dance with her now alright?" He said, "Come."

Rose's eyes widened. "What?"

"Come with me."

"Jack," she protested, but he had already lifted her up from her chair, "Jack wait. I can't do this."

"We are gonna have to get a little closer. Like this." He put his hand on the lower part of her back and moved her towards him. Rose held her breath for a second. They slowly started the move as she let out a slight shriek.

"I don't know the steps."

"Neither do I, just go with it. Don't think!" He laughed.

As Rose woke up she noticed that Meredith was still curled up next to her. Her eyes were think because of the tears and Rose gently pushed away the hair out of her face. The room was almost empty. She slowly got up, Meredith groaning by the feeling of Rose's absence.

"I am going to get us something to eat, alright? I'll be back in a minute." She headed out of the hall, into the corridor where there was nobody. The only way she knew was down the cargo hold or up the deck. Heading up, she soon noticed that she had slept for an eternity and it was already the next day. It was quiet outside and it looked like everyone had disappeared. Ahead of her she could see the same officer as yesterday and decided to walk over to him. He was leaning over the railing, his thoughts far away from reality. He did not hear the young girl at first, only when she stood next to him he turned around.

"I didn't mean to disturb you, sir." Rose quickly apologised.

"No not at all, miss."

"I was just wondering if there was somewhere I could get something to eat for my friend?"

"I just got back myself. I will take you there."

Rose thanked him and again walked next to him as he took her down into the ship. He was a hero, Rose concluded it from what he had told her. He was the only crewman who demanded to go back. He transferred all the people form his boat into another and rowed his was into the graveyard. He managed to save five from out of the freezing water, only one died a short while later. He touched the dead, saw the pain and suffering in their eyes. A mother holding a baby in her arms, even a young boy completely alone. Yes, this man was a hero. But when Rose mentioned the word he heavily shook his head. He did not want to be called that when he knew he could have done so much more. Rose could see the devastation of the aftermath radiating off of him. They stopped in front of a room and when he wanted to walk back, she couldn't help but hug him tight and thank him.

She watched him until he was out of her sight and remained in her place for a little while. Then a familiar voice shocked her body completely. She froze in her spot, unable to move, unable to speak. A lump formed in her throat and when the touch of a hand on her arm spun her around, she looked straight into the eyes of him.

"Rose." He cried and took her into her arms. She tried to escape from his embrace, but he was strong.

"We all have been so worried. We couldn't find you, making us think you didn't make it. But I saw you in the lifeboat and I knew you had to be alive."

She finally released herself from his arms and took a step back. Tears burning in her eyes. Was there a way to escape from this excruciating nightmare. He still looked sleek and dandy, as if nothing had happened to him. His complexion was only more pale and tiresome, but he held himself up high. As he wanted to move closer to her she moved back once again.

"I have nothing to say to you." She said through gritted teeth, "How dare you show up here."

He looked nervously around him to make sure no one could hear them. "I have been to some assistance, Rose. I could arrange to get into a lifeboat. I've done everything I could."

"By waving your money into the air? Bravo, Cal, you have really outdone yourself."

"I saved a child, Rose! I saved a child."

"And where is that child now?"

He didn't not respond. Rose scoffed and turned her back towards him, ready to head back towards her friend. Caledon Hockley was not done. The reality of them still being engaged created a form of possession in his mind. To him, she was still his. They belonged together. Cal quickly caught up with her and stopped her.

"You can't just walk off like that. We are still engaged, Rose."

Angrily she looked at her hand. The ring was till shining around her finger, looking like nothing ever had changed. With a great force she pulled it off and smashed it on the ground in front of him. Her breath was high up in her chest where all the pain could be felt. She was not the only one to be angry. Cal looked at her with burning eyes. He feelt betrayed and treated like trash.

"Now you listen to me." He spat at her and grabbed her by her arm with a great force, "These past months, I have given you everything your heart desired. Nothing was ever too much nor too expensive for me to offer you, because you are precious to me, Rose. It is about time you do something in return. So we'll slowly walk back to our cabin and tell your mother you are alive."

Rose shrieked in pain, her heart pounding so fast like it could explode. After what felt like an eternity he finally let go of her. She couldn't deny that she was frightened, she was horrified. An older lady walked by and stared at the two of them before Cal gave her a sympathetic smile. The woman simply nodded and headed on into the other direction. She couldn't protest anymore, so she followed him up towards the first class cabins. After passing a few doors they stopped in front of another. Voices were heard inside including her mother's. He slowly opened the door and Ruth stood up from her chair. Looking behind him she cried out loudly as she saw her daughter entering the room slowly. Ruth jumped into her arms, yet Rose remained quiet, not moving a single muscle in her body.

"My beautiful daughter. I thought I would never see you again." She then pulled back to look at Rose's face. She didn't look her in the eyes, but stared at Molly who was also in the room.

"You look horrible, Rose." Ruth told her, "We should get you cleaned up.

"No thank you. I am good." was all she said.

"You better go wash yourself, Rose. We will wait and then we can go get breakfast together."

"We should give the girl a break," Margaret Brown interrupted them, "We don't know what she's been through."

Rose moved passed her mother and fiance and took a seat next to her ally. She gently put her hand onto the young girl's shoulder and looked at the terrified look in her eyes. The others just stared at the two of them and remained quiet for a while. Then, Cal took Rose aside into the other room. Rose let out a deep breath as if she had been holding it for minutes on end. A tear escaped her eyes, landing on her dress.

"I haven't told them anything about you, Rose." Molly informed her.

"I know." She whispered back, "I was about to get something to eat for my friend and then he just stood there. You have to get me out of here, Molly. I need to get back to, Jack."

"Leave him up to me, dear. I'll go check on him in a minute."

The other door flung open and Cal ordered to leave him and his fiancee alone in the room. Rose watched in fright as she saw Mrs. Brown head out. Mr. Hockley took a seat in front of her and stared at her for a while, before starting his speech. He had discussed the situation with her mother. The engagement gala would be postponed by two weeks, for Rose to calm down and recollect her thoughts in the meantime. She could stay with Mrs. DeWitt Bukater until the wedding, instead of moving in with his mother two weeks before. Other than that, everything would remain the same. No one was ever to find out about her embarrassing behaviour and god forbidden acts.

"We'll let them remain on that ship," Cal said, "deep in the dark ocean. Am I in anyway unclear?"

"No." She mumbled.

"I can't hear you."

"No." She said, now somewhat louder.

"Good. Lastly, I want to know whether he is alive or dead."

She knew whom he was referring to. His face was radiating with venom. She got up from her chair and silently moved to the window where she looked at the slight waves, hitting the outside of the ship. It felt impossible to let his name slip form her lips.

"When the ship docks, I am getting off with you."

Jack looked deeply into into her eyes, recovering himself from what he had just heard her say. He shook his head in disbelief.

"This is crazy."

"I know." She laughed, "It doesn't make any sense. That's why I trust it."

Suddenly Cal's loud voice burst through her thoughts. He was now close behind her. She turned back around to face him.

"What does it matter, Cal? I am marrying you, right?"

"Answer my question, Rose. Is the boy dead or alive." He growled.

"I don't know."

"Don't you dare lie to me!" He marched out the room and slammed the door shut behind her. The sound of a key moving around made Rose panic. She rushed over and tried to open it, but he had locked her inside. Slamming on the wood she yelled a few more times, but there was no response. He had quickly made his way through the ship determent to reach his goal. He pushed pass groups of people as he rushed his way through the corridors. He had seen where they took the steerage people as well as the wounded. He knew where he needed to be. The cargo room was dark and crowded because of all the mess that was scattered around. He grabbed a steward by his shoulder.

"I am looking for a man. Jack Dawson." He said.

The young steward pointed into a direction, "Now can you let me go please."

There he was, lying on a folding bed. Asleep, but very much alive. Caledon Hockley's hands started to itch with anger and his gaze fell onto on empty burlap sack. He took is off the ground, twirled it within his hands and looked back at the boy. It was only a matter of seconds to erase his biggest threat. He had heard that some had died even after being rescued. It would look natural. Yet he had no time to think as Jack's eyes slowly started to open. Cal took a step aside as he watched the boy get himself to sit up straight. He was covered in bruises with a bandage wrapped around his head. He looked pale, with dark circles underneath his eyes. The two looked at one another for a moment, before Jack started to speak.

"Are you my new doctor?" He asked Cal. He raised an eyebrow, utterly confused by his remark.

"What- what do you mean?"

"They say I have to see a specialist. But everyone keeps running around without telling me a damn thing."

A sudden shadow moved passed them and when Cal looked beside him he saw Mrs. Brown handing Jack a glass of water. She had seen him long before, but chose to ignore him. She helped Jack sit up straighter by putting a pillow behind his back. Jack thanked her, called her ma'am and Cal thought he had landed into a strange dream.

"What's going on here?" He asked Molly. She turned towards him and pulled him aside.

"He got fished out of the water. You see the blood from underneath his bandage? That injury has caused him to lose his memory. He doesn't know a single thing, Mr. Hockley. He doesn't know where we are or who we are. He doesn't know who she is."

"Mrs. Brown, you can't be serious."

"I have never been more serious is my entire life. It is you lucky day, isn't it, Mr. Hockley? Nothing is standing in your way anymore. But if you come close to him once more, because I did see you with that bag in your hands, I'll do anything in my power to get her away from you."

Cal glanced back once more, straightened his back and walked away without saying anything else. When he was gone Molly let out a sigh of relief and took her attention back to Jack. He had finished his beverage and placed it on the ground next to him. He allowed her to sit on the edge of his bed and gave her a sympathetic smile.

"Thank you, ma'am," he said to her, "for being so kind to me."

"Please call me, Molly. And there is no need to thank me."

"Who was that man?"

"No one, dear. He had mistaken you for someone else."

"Alright." He nodded.

"Listen," Molly then started, "I've heard we will arrive in New York the day after tomorrow. I am not going to let you go that easy. You might not know who I am, but I know you you are and I want you to trust me. I am going to help you. I am taking you home with me and I'll make sure you'll get the best medical help there is. How does that sound?"

Jack thanked her once more, but didn't know what else to say. He did trust her in some way. She was the only one to properly take care of him. Other than that, nothing made sense to the young man. In his mind he still had to be in Canada, he couldn't just be in the middle of the Atlantic heading to his home country. He had to find out why this was happening to him and if she was giving him the possibility to get there, he had to take this opportunity with open arms. Good was all he could say. The plan sounded good.

On his way back to his cabin, Cal was trying to collect his thoughts. He truly believed it was meant to be this way. Perhaps God had tested his patience during the past week, but all ended well. Everything always ended well for Caledon Hockley. Luck was maybe a word that was not written onto him, but it radiated strongly from his presence.

"I always win, Jack. One way or another."

As those words repeated itself into his head, he could see the defeated look in Jacks eyes. Even as his love descended into the open waters he knew they would meet again. And he was right.
