Next to her in the police car was the still form of Nick. Shortly after they had gotten into the car, he had fallen asleep. But, Judy knew that Nick really shouldn't be working anyway, so she let him sleep.
Judy drove into an empty parking lot and set a timer for 30 minutes. She figured she would give him half an hour to rest and hopefully feel better. In the meantime, Judy would do some research.
She typed in her phone, vomiting, shaking arms, fatigue, loss of appetite. Most of the results popped up with either the stomach virus or the flu. Judy thought those matched up the most too.
Suddenly, she heard a stir from next to her. Judy saw Nick pop open his eyes and blink a few times. With his eyes still kind of sleepy, Nick looked over to Judy.
"Morning, Carrots." he yawned. "How long was I out?"
Judy smiled as she watch Nick continue to stretch his arms.
"Oh, I'd say a good twenty minutes." Judy smirked. "Feeling any better, Slick?"
"Yeah, a lot actually."
"Really?" Judy asked.
Nick nodded.
That surprised Judy. About a half-hour ago, Nick was vomiting and could barely stand up straight. Now, he was saying that he felt fine. Something just didn't add up...
"That's kind of strange, don't you think? I mean, considering you felt awful before?"
"Oh, better watch out everyone. Detective Carrots on the loose." Nick joked.
Nick was definitely better.
"Nick, I'm serious."
"So am I."
Judy once again replayed the events in her head. Nick looked sick, he vomited, then his arms started shaking, and he was stumbling around like he was dizzy. After that, the only other thing that had happened, was that Nick went to the lounge and grabbed a donut.
"I'm saying I probably had food poisoning. And since I barfed, I probably don't have whatever was making me sick in my system anymore, which leads to why I'm better now." Nick said.
Judy sighed.
"Yeah, I guess."
Nick and Judy were currently hiding behind the side of a building. The traffic cameras had shown that the stolen car had been driven inside a giant garage, which was the building right next to them.
Judy started walking over to the front side of the building. She spotted a walk-in door with a window. Judy looked inside the window to see if anyone was inside. Everything was dark. Was no one there?
"Can you see anything, Carrots?" Nick asked from around the corner of the building.
"No. It's too dark." she whispered back.
Nick immediately thought of an idea. If it was too dark for Judy to see inside, he would probably be able to. Foxes have great night vision.
"Let me see." he said.
Nick scurried over to the door on all fours. He stood and pressed his eyes to the glass. For a while, he just kept moving his eyes, looking for something. And he found something.
Nick gasped and covered his mouth, making Judy nearly jump out of her fur.
"What is it?!" she asked worried.
"This guy has a giant stuffed unicorn!" Nick cheered with excitement.
Judy sighed with relief and rolled her eyes. At least, now she knew what to get Nick for a present someday...
"Anything else?"
Nick looked back to the window to search for more things. Besides the stuffed unicorn, there was nothing inside that looked out of place.
"I don't see anything."
Judy knocked.
"Hello? It's the ZPD."
No answer.
She reached out to knock again, but before she could, the door swung open. They were met face to face with an angry looking pig.
"What do you want, you cops? I didn't do anything." the pig scowled
"I wouldn't be too sure about that. You see, there was was a car stolen yesterday night, sir." said Nick.
"And all evidence points to it being in this garage." Judy accused.
Suddenly, the pig started laughing hysterically. After a while, he had to hold himself up with the door to reassure that he wouldn't fall over from laughing so hard. Nick and Judy turned to each other in confusion. They obviously didn't get what was so funny to the pig.
Judy gave a small nervous laugh.
"Mind telling us what's so funny?"
The pig nodded.
"Y'all can search this garage as many times as you want. You aren't gonna find anything." the pig said with confidence.
The two officers sat in their police car. They had searched high and low in that garage, but nothing was found. Heck, they even looked for trap doors to see if the car could have somehow disappeared.
"I still can't believe it..." Nick said in defeat.
"I know! It can't be right." Judy sighed. "We watched that stolen car go inside that garage through the traffic cameras, and yet, what did we find? Nothing!"
There was a silence.
"I was talking about how he didn't let me take the unicorn..." Nick mumbled.
Judy sighed. Of course. Of course, when they were in the middle of trying to find a stolen car, Nick wasn't worried about how the car had somehow vanished. He was worried not getting a unicorn from the criminal who had stolen the car...
"Chief Bogo is going to be so mad when we get back." Judy said with stress in her voice.
Neither of them wanted to deal with Bogo right now. They had spent time gathering evidence, searching the garage, and now they would have to deal with the chief either, not believing them, or, taking out his anger on them? That sounded like fun.
At a red light, Judy looked over at Nick, who was spaced off looking out the window. She noticed how he had an arm curled around his stomach.
"Nick?"
The fox turned and looked at bunny. Something that Judy immediately found, was that Nick had the same look in his eyes as he did this morning. He looked kind of... out of it.
"Nick, are you feeling alright?"
Nick was starting getting the same wave of sickness from earlier. That jittery feeling was back, but not as much. Whatever sickness he had, certainly wasn't done with him.
"I'm fine. I think."
Judy stared at Nick with concern in her eyes.
