Chapter 2: Barnum's Offer
That afternoon Barnum could think about nothing except the interesting young man he'd met the previous night. "Are you sure you weren't...I don't know...Seeing things last night. Phillipe asked Barnum as he rushed through the tent.
"Philippe I may have a vast imagination but even I couldn't make this up." Philippe blocked the entrance of the tent. Barnum what are you doing? Nothing! "Look I feel bad for spooking that poor kid I just want to apologize that's all. Besides who knows what could happen today.
Quasimodo tugged hard on the bell rope as he was sent flying through the air, The sound of the loud bells echoing through the tower. He landed back on the platform bellow wiping the sweat from his brow.
"Hello, Kid you up here?" Quasimodo froze. He leaned out to look at the familiar stranger walking into the loft. It was him, the man from the circus! What did he want?! "I know your up here kid." Quasimodo sighed. There was no way to get rid of this man was there?
"W-Why did you come here sir?" Barnum looked up into the rafters and he could make out the boys outline in the darkness. "Come down here boy, would ya I hate feeling like I'm talking to myself."
He gave a frustrated sigh and climbed down the rafters and stepped from the shadows standing face to face with the man. "W-What do you want sir?" Look kid all I wanted to do was apologize for last night. "I-Its alright t-there's no need.
"Quasimodo right?" That's your name? "H-How did you-Your friends told me." The teen stared at him suspiciously. "W-Why are you here sir?" I told you I came to apologize about what happened last night. "Is that all? He said glaring at the man suspiciously.
"Actually there is one other thing...He held out a familiar red ticket. "For my last show here in France if your...Interested." Quasimodo sighed then looked at the ticket in his hand. "I-I'll think about it." Glad to hear, I'll see you tonight my friend.
Quasimodo waited until he heard the door slam then looked at the ticket clutched in his hand. Did he want to go again? What if he got beat up again? He sighed. I'll do it! that night Quasimodo snuck out of the cathedral heading straight for the circus, luckily no one seemed to bother him, and he found a seat. It was a little strange without his friends, but it was all soon forgotten as he became lost in the show.
After the show had ended Quasimodo pushed his way through the crowd as he tried to get away before anyone noticed him but before he could flee he felt someone tap him on the shoulder.
The ringleader stood behind him a grin on his face. "Hey kid enjoy the show?" O-Oh yes I-It was incredible. I'm glad you think so...The ringleader looked at the tent entrance. Come on lets get out of here let me buy you a drink. The young man sighed and shrugged. Fine why not.
The two men sat in a local tavern drinking shots of whisky at the bar. Quasimodo set the glass down wincing as the burning liquid scorched his throat. He'd never had whisky before and usually never drank but the alcohol was giving him the courage to be here right now, otherwise he would have left already.
"Sir why we really here?" What cant I guy enjoy a drink with a friend? The younger man narrowed his eyes. "We're not friends!" I don't even know you! "So tell me Mr...Barnum he said setting his top hat on the barstool next to him.
"My name is Phineas Taylor Barnum." Right...So tell me why exactly you being so kind to me. Why? He sighed. "You act like I've got something to hide." Do you? No. He scoffed taking another shot of whisky.
"Then why are you even bothering to talk to someone like me sir?" You remind me of someone that's all. When I was a kid I lost my father and ended up spending most of my life on the streets in New York. "I was starving , thought I was going to die, But then an old woman gave me an apple. She was like you...Deformed? Quasimodo asked? Well I think so, Its been a long time but because of that old woman she inspired me to help people, People like you. He growled. I don't need your help!
"I know what you want, and the answer is no, I will not join your circus." Hmm...I never thought about it until now, but why not? "It could be fun?" Fun! Quasimodo growled. "There's nothing funny about people laughing and making fun of me!"
"Well, they're laughing anyways, kid, so might as well get paid." Quasimodo glared at him. "I'm kidding!" Look kid aren't you tired of your life don't you want a change. "I-I-I don't know." Ive never even left Paris.
"Think about it kid this could be a chance of a lifetime." The teen sighed. "I-I'm sorry sir but I just cant do it." I-I'm no performer a freak! "An Outcast!" And that's the best part everyone else at the circus is also an outcast! "You wouldn't feel so alone anymore you'd be with people who are just as special and unique as you!" You'd be with people who understand you.
"I-I'm sorry Mr. Barnum, But I cant face another crowd, not again!" Barnum sighed. "Look kid I don't know what happened the last time you faced a crowd, but I do know this...Everyone one day must face their fears and that includes you.
He motioned for the bartender to bring them two more shots and they each downed the shot as Barnum set his glass down he began to sing.
"Right here, right now"
"I put the offer out"
"I don't want to chase you down"
"I know you see it"
"You run with me"
"And I can cut you free"
"Out of the drudgery and walls, you keep in"
Barnum tapped on the bar with his hand as the bartender slid a bottled of whiskey into his hand and he refilled the glasses.
"So trade that typical for something colorful"
"And if it's crazy, live a little crazy"
"You can play it safe"
"Or even play it dull"
"Or you can risk it all and see"
"Don't you wanna get away"
" from the same old boring everyday"
"cause I got what you need"
"so come with me and take the ride"
"It'll take you to the other side"
"cause you can do like you do"
"Or you can do like me"
"Stay in the cage, or you'll finally take the key"
Barnum sang as he danced across the bar top knocking Quasimodo's shot glass away before he had a chance to drink it. He glared at the man annoyed but Barnum simply ignored him as he continued dancing jumping off the bar.
"Oh, damn! Suddenly you're free to fly"
"It'll take you to the other side"
Quasimodo glared at him and pushed the chair back as he stood to confront him.
"Okay, my friend, you want me to join in"
"Well, I hate to tell you, but it just won't happen"
"So thanks, but no"
"I think I'm good to go"
"cause I quite enjoy the life you say I'm trapped in"
He stood throwing on his cloak.
"Now I admire you, and that show you do"
"Its something special "
"really it's quite something"
"But I'd rather play it safe"
"Then be the one who's being laughed at mocked and more"
He jumped onto the bar and began to dance mocking Barnum as he continued to sing.
"Can't you see that I'm ok"
"With this basic ordinary everyday"
"Cause I got what I need, and I don't want to take the ride"
"I don't need to see the other side"
"So go and do like you do"
"I'm good to just be me"
"Not in a cage, so I don't need to take the key"
"Oh, damn! Can't you see I'm doing fine"
"I don't need to see the other side"
Barnum sat at the nearby piano and began to play it as he continued to sing trying to get the boy on his side.
"Now is this really how you like to spend your days?"
"With misery, anger, sadness and pain?"
" If I joined you I'd never live it down"
"I'd be an even bigger freak then I am now!"
He sang downing another shot of whiskey as he walked towards the door.
"But you would finally live a little"
"finally laugh a little"
"Just let me give you the freedom to dream"
"And it'll wake you up and cure your aching"
"Barnum I already said no."
"Take your walls and start 'em breaking"
"Just leave me alone I already told you I-I'm not interested!"
"Now that's a deal that seems worth taking"
"But I guess I'll leave that up to you"
Quasimodo froze with his hand on the door. "What are you doing?!" Why are you still here?! "Run while you still can!" A voice shouted in his mind. There was part of him that wanted to leave and forget about this, But part of him...Part of him wanted to see this through. This could be a chance of a lifetime what am I doing. He sighed. "I better not regret this he thought to himself.
Quasi: "Well I'll admit this deal of yours interests me greatly"
Quasi: "But to be clear exactly how much will you pay."
Barnum chuckled. The boy knew what he wanted out of the job that was good. He motioned to the bartender who set four shot glasses on the table and filled each of them with whiskey.
Barnum: "Fair enough, you'd want a piece of all the action"
Barnum: "I'd give you seven, we could shake and make it happen"
Quasimodo shook his head trying hard not to laugh. This man was asking him to leave all he'd know behind. If he was going to join this mans circus he wanted more than just seven dollars a week.
Quasi: "I wasn't born this morning"
Quasi: "Eighteen would be just fine"
Barnum: "Why not just go ahead and ask for nickels on the dime"
Quasimodo slammed his hand on the table and stared down his so called "New employer" as he attempted to bargained with him.
Quasi: Fifteen
Barnum: I'd do eight
Quasi: Twelve
Barnum: Maybe nine
Quasi: Ten
Barnum shook his hand. "Ten it is." Say kid, Where'd you learn to bargain like that? "My friend Phoebus taught me." So do we have a deal? Barnum Smiled shaking his hand. Kid Welcome to the Barnum circus!
The bartender sat down two glasses in front of them. "Cheers." Said Barnum as they clinked there glasses together. They began to sing and dance together as the bartender slid glass after glass their way.
Both: "Don't you wanna get away"
Both: "To a whole new world that awaits"
Both: "Cause I got what you need"
Both: "So come with me and take the ride"
Both: "To the other side"
Barnum: "So if you do like I do"
Quasi: "So if you do like me"
Both: "Forget the cage, 'cause we know how to make the key"
"Oh, damn! Suddenly we're free to fly"
"We're going to the other side"
Quasi: "So if you do like I do"
(Barnum: "To the other side")
Quasi: "So if you do like me"
Barnum: ("We're going to the other side")
Quasi: "Cause if we do we're going to the other side"
Quasi: "We're going to the other side"
Quasimodo downed one last glass of whisky and looked down at the counter top. "You said today was your last show?" Barnum nodded. "W-When do we leave." In three days. Quasimodo sighed.
Quasimodo downed his last glass. "Until then." He threw on his cloak and rushed out into the cold dark night tired and slightly drunk. The next day the teen woke with a pounding headache. "Ugh...what happened last night"
"Then Quasimodo remembered with nervous anticipation and dread that in three days...He'd be leaving Paris for the first time in his life. That day he told his friends of his decision. "Are you sure about this?" Esmeralda asked him worriedly.
"I am." This is something I want to see through till' the end. "No offence Quasi but your not much of a performer." Esmeralda smacked her husband on the back of his head. What?! Its true! "Quasimodo sighed I know, but I'm tired of hiding in the belltower. "I feel like...Like this is fate, like...This was meant to happen."
Three days later the fated day finally arrived. Quasimodo was about to board the boat when he felt someone tug on his shirt. He looked down to see Zephyr staring up at him sad eyes his lip quivering.
"Please don't go Quasi, I'll miss you." Quasimodo smiled kneeling down to the little boys level. "I know buddy, I'm going to miss you to, but this is something I want to do." W-will I ever see you again? Quasimodo looked slightly shocked.
"of course!" And maybe you can come visit me in New York sometime. "Would you like that?" Zephyr gave an eager nod. He ruffled the boys blonde hair. "Goodbye Zephyr I'll see you soon. " ok?
Quasimodo stood on the deck on watched as the boat slowly started to move away from the pier. Bye! Zephyr shouted from the dock. Quasimodo waved at his friends and stood on the deck as he watched Paris slowly fade from view.
Quasimodo sighed lying down on one of the deck chairs on the boat. He'd barely slept at all last night he'd been to exited, but now as the waves crashed against the metal hull of the ship he closed his eyes drifting off to sleep.
However a few hours later he felt someone tap him on the shoulder. He pulled away. "Hey you is the seat next to you taken?" A female voice asked. Quasimodo turned away from her shaking his head. "N-No go ahead."
"Well thanks." She plopped down in the chair next to him and he could feel her eyes on him. "So...First time on a boat?" Y-Yes he stuttered nervously. "W-What about you?" To be honest, I've never left new York before it was my first time being in another country but I'm glad to be going home.
"So you're the new guy right?" Quasimodo nodded carful to keep his face turned towards the wall. "Y-Yes, t-that's me. T-The new guy." You sure do seem to have a stuttering problem. You ok?
"I-I'm fine I-I only stutter when...When I'm n-nervous." Do I make you nervous she asked giggling slightly. "N-No I-I'm just not used to talking to people, e-especially...Girls. "Well I have to leave anyways I want to get some rest I'm prepared for our next show.
"What do you do, a-at the circus? "I'm a trapeze artist." Quasimodo froze. He remembered the acrobat from the first show he went to. Was he talking to that same pink haired acrobat?! Was it really her?! "I-I saw you at the show, aren't you afraid of heights?" No not really, Are you? N-No. "Well I guess that's something we have in common. "What about you what's your act?" O-Oh, I-I don't have an a-act. We'll see about that. "I'll see you later new guy." Welcome to the greatest show on earth.
Quasimodo spent most of his time exploring the upper deck of the ship. He didn't see the rest of the performers. They were probably below deck. However after days at sea he finally saw the vast New York city skyline in the distance.
He felt a hand on his shoulder. "Beautiful, Isn't it?" Quasimodo barely glanced up at Barnum as he stared out at the vast city in awe. "I-Its so...Big." Of course it is what where you expecting it to be smaller.
"Now there's someone I'd like you to meet he said ushering him to the other side of the dock. A man with dark hair and dark eye stood looking at the sea. Philip this is the kid I told you about, Kid this is my...Friend and business associate Phillip Carlyle.
"Its nice to meet you sir." Quasimodo said shaking the mans outstretched hand." Its nice to meet you, Quasimodo, was it? The boy nodded. Yes t-that's my name. Philip stared at the strange boy in front of him. Yes he looked odd, but he'd seen stranger.
When the finally docked Quasimodo waited hiding by some boxes. He saw to little girl rush at the man screaming "Daddy!" As the nearly bowled him over. "Hey girls, You've gotten so big, look at you."
He pulled a blond-haired women who assumed was Mr Barnum's wife into a tight embrace kissing her on the cheek. "I missed you." The woman said smiling kissing him back. "I know, I missed you to."
He turned to look at the boy who stood nearby trying to hide behind some boxes. "Hey kid!" Quasimodo stumbled almost knocking over the crates much to his embarrassment. "Come over here I want to introduce you to somebody.
Quasimodo had been ok with Phillip seeing as how he worked closely with Mr. Barnum, but he didn't want to frighten those little girls, But he knew the man wouldn't leave him alone until he did otherwise and so he walked over to his new boss.
"Did you find a new addition to the circus?" The woman asked her husband surprised. Quasimodo stopped a few feet in front of Barnum. "Y-You wanted to see me sir?" Quasimodo said keeping his head down avoiding the woman's gaze.
"Kid this is my wife charity and my daughters Caroline and Helen." Charity, Girls this is Quasimodo are newest member of the Barnum circus, Quasimodo looked down at the ground. "I-Its nice to m-meet you." He stuttered keeping his gaze fixed to the ground.
Charity stared at the odd boy puzzled, the way the boy looked at the ground it was as if he were trying to hide. He looked up for a moment when he thought she wasn't looking, and she got a good glimpse at his strange face and understood why.
The boy was so shy he was probably not used to meeting strangers. She was about to scold her over eager husband but decided against it for the moment instead she held out her hand. "It's nice to meet you Quasimodo, welcome to the Barnum family circus."
"Come on kid were not far the museum's not that far from here." Bye! The two girls shouted waving after the newest member of the circus as they walked off. "M-Museum?" Yeah the Barnum Museum, well technically I changed the sign to say circus, but you get it.
"B-But the tent?" That was just a rental, for the tour. "What did you think I owned that?" Quasimodo felt uneasy the idea of him performing in front of a hundred people in a cramped room made his nauseous.
However when they entered the building it was surprisingly bigger than he expected. Barnum led him to the backstage area. You can rest here for a while if you want maybe explore the museum a bit unless you'd rather help unload crates pack at the docks.
"A-Actually I-I'm kind of tired I didn't sleep much on the boat." Quasimodo however was being truthful he'd been somewhat restless on the boat, constantly sea sick and light headed from the constant swaying of the boat. Now that he was on land again he could finally get some rest.
"Ok see you later than." Quasimodo curled up on a large wooden bench nearby giving in to his exhaustion. A while latter he was awoken by voices near him. "You think he's dead?" Charles! "What I'm just saying he's been like this for an hour."
"Would you relax Charles he's not dead." Came a familiar voice. It was the girl from the ship, and she was standing right next to him. "He's just tired, I would be to if he had to stay on that boat a minute longer.
Quasimodo stirred sitting up he shook his head slightly he glanced at the girl standing near him and back away alarmed. "I-I'm sorry, I thought I was alone." A-Are you part of the circus to? Quasimodo said looking out at the strangers.
He recognized both of them as the bearded woman and the very short man from his first time at the circus. The girl standing next him was the young acrobat. She looked completely different without her costume and wig.
She was a young African American woman with dark hair and soft brown eyes. She smiled at the stranger. "You know you never did tell me your name." Q-Quasimodo. "I-Its Quasimodo." Well its nice to meet you Quasi, I'm Anne, Anne Wheeler and that Lettie and Charles She said pointing at the others. "I-Its nice to meet you all."
"You know it kinda hard to hear what your saying with your hood up." Charles said. Lettie glared at her friend. What? "Yeah and its kind of weird talking to someone when you cant see their face." Do you mi-I c-cant. Anne stared at him confused.
Why not? "I...I don't exactly..."Look normal." Lettie walked over towards them and he ducked trying to hide deeper in hid cloak. "Honey there are a lot of us here that "don't look normal" That's why were here." This is a place where people like us don't have to hide and neither do you said Lettie kneeling next to him.
Anne followed placing her hand on his own. "You don't have to hide here." Here...Were all a little different. Quasimodo's hand slackened as he moved his hand away. Slowly Anne pulled back the hood.
Quasimodo looked at the ground avoiding her gaze as she looked at his strange face. "Whoa and people think I look weird." Charles! Lettie said glaring back at the man slightly annoyed. What? It's a joke. "I'm joking."
Quasimodo, looked like someone who'd spent his whole life hiding. But she could see more than that she saw someone who was broken, someone who was used to the cruel world outside, who was used to hiding and being alone and it was then she wondered...How on earth Barnum had convinced this poor boy to leave his home.
A tear streaked down the boys face. Surprised Quasimodo felt a hand brush the tear away. "Hey, there's no need for that." Anne said gently. "I know change can be kind of...Uh...Well scary, but you'll get used to it in time." Besides, your not alone in anymore, your part of the Barnum circus now.
"Yeah were like one big happy family said Lettie smiling at him." F-Family? Quasimodo said confused. "well I wouldn't call us a-Lettie glared back at Charles which shut the twenty-two-year-old up.
"How old are you kid?" S-Sixteen. No parents? family? He shook his head. "I had friends. "How'd Barnum manage to convince you to join the circus?" Lettie asked. "W-Would you believe I was so drunk the night he asked me that I said yes without out thinking. He joked.
"Ha! I like him. "Your alright in my books kid." Great sense of humor to she said as she and Charles left. The only ones left in the room where him and Anne. "Wanna watch me practice." She asked.
Uh...S-Sure. Anne led him back out to the empty ring, the empty seats made him slightly disoriented he could almost imagine the dozens of people sitting in the seats he sat down in an empty chair as he watched her practicing her routine
Suddenly a young man slightly older came into the room and joined her on the trapeze. He remembered seeing the man at his first show back in Paris. Judging by their slightly similar eyes he assumed that they must be siblings.
Anne and her brother climbed down from the roof back to the ground. He saw Anne wave him over and he hesitantly approached the two. Quasi this is my brother W. D. The man shook his hand. So you're the new guy huh? Quasimodo nodded.
"So what's your act?" My...He doesn't have one. At least not yet. Anne replied. But don't worry we'll find you something to do. She said smiling. "You want to watch us go over our routine?" "N-No thank you, I-I'm still tired from the boat ride here." I think I'll rest a bit b-before the show.
"Ok see you later." It was nice meeting you W.D. Shouted as the boy disappeared back stage. "Strange guy." Yeah but he's nice, not afraid of heights either. Really? You think he could take over for me sometime.
Ha-ha very funny. "I'm serious , think about it, he's not afraid of heights and he's got to do something, plus he could take my place if I, I don't know need a break or something." You get plenty of breaks she said rolling her eyes at her older brother. "Its not a bad idea though. I'll talk to Mr. Barnum about it later." Now come on lazy, we have a show to get ready for.
Quasimodo peered out at the large crowd from behind a curtain. Barnum had apparently spread the word about his newest..."Addition" to the circus. It was as if all of new York had showed up.
"T-There's so many people." I know said Barnum who stood next to him. "I-I don't think I can do this." Hey, kid relax It'll be fine, you'll see. "A lot of people here got stage fright during there first show.
"B-But what if they laugh at me." No one is going to laugh at you I promise. "They don't know it yet...but they are gonna love you." Do you say that to everyone to make them forget their worries. "Trust me." He said holding out his hand to him.
Quasimodo took his hand. Come on kid lets get you ready for the show. Quasimodo followed Barnum backstage he could see Anne talking to a red-haired girl a few feet away she was already wearing her wig and costume. Anne saw him and waved at him as Barnum lead him away.
"You stumble through your days"
"Got your head hung low"
"Your skies' a shade of grey"
"Like a zombie in a maze"
"You're asleep inside"
"But you can shake awake"
He sang leading him further back stage.
"Cause you're just a dead man walking"
"Thinking that's your only option"
"But you can flip the switch and brighten up your darkest day"
"Sun is up and the color's blinding"
"Take the world and redefine it"
"Leave behind your narrow mind"
"You'll never be the same"
He sang grabbing his hat jacket and cane from a stage hand.
"Come alive, come alive"
"Go and light your light"
"Let it burn so bright"
"Reaching up"
"To the sky"
"And it's open wide"
"You're electrified"
Barnum sat him down in a chair in front of a mirror and a few hours later he hardly recognized himself. He wore a red shirt black pants and shoes and a gold vest the dirt had been scrubbed from his face and his red hair gleamed in the dim lights. You ready? Quasimodo shook his head. Barnum began to sing again as dragged the boy from the chair.
"When the world becomes a fantasy"
"And you're more than you could ever be"
"Cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open"
"And you know you can't go back again"
"To the world that you were living in"
"Cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open"
"So, come alive"
He pulled him from the chair and lead him back to where the others where waiting. Quasimodo looked down nervously as the other performers stared at him some of them looking at him surprised. (All except Charles, Lettie, and Anne and her brother who gave him a sympathetic look. Barnum lifted his chin as he began to sing pointing at the others.
"I see it in your eyes"
"You believe that lie"
"That you need to hide your face"
Quasimodo nodded he looked away.
"Afraid to step outside"
"So you lock the door"
"But don't you stay that way"
Lettie stepped forward as she approached him she held out her hand to him and he took it as she led him towards the others.
"No more living in those shadows"
"You and me we know how that goes"
"Cause once you see it, oh you'll never, never be the same"
Sang a man who looked to be about a hundred and fifty pounds. Lettie and the man began to sing as they led him towards the curtain.
"We'll be the light that's turning"
"Bottle up and keep on shining"
"You can prove there's more to you"
"You cannot be afraid"
Barnum sang as he raised his cane above his head slowly the curtains drew back and the performers rushed past him he could already see Anne climbing up to the trapeze platform and smiled.
"Come alive, come alive"
"Go and light your light"
"Let it burn so bright"
"Reaching up"
"To the sky"
"And it's open wide"
"You're electrified"
"When the world becomes a fantasy"
"And you're more than you could ever be"
"cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open"
"And we know we can't be go back again"
"To the world that we were living in"
"Cause we're dreaming with our eyes wide open"
"So, come alive!"
Barnum motioned for Quasi to step out, but the boy shook his head hiding in the corner. "I-I cant, T-There's too many people." Kid you can do this you have to face your fear. I know you can do it; You just have to take the first step.
"Come one!"
"Come all!"
"Come in!"
"Come on!"
"To anyone who's bursting with a dream"
Anne sang swinging down from a small ring above his head landing next to him.
"Come one!"
"Come all!"
"You hear"
"The call"
Anne held out her hand to him. Quasimodo stared at her hesitantly. "Its time for your chance in the spotlight." Quasimodo smiled taking her hand he looked nervously at Barnum. "Go for it kid." Quasimodo smiled at Barnum as he allowed Anne to lead him to the center of the ring.
People stared at him shocked. Some looked disgusted while others cheered and clapped.
"To anyone who's searching for a way to break free"
"Break free!"
"Break free!"
Quasimodo joined in the singing and dancing despite his strange appearance he happened to have quite the voice. His voice mixed with the other performers but most of the people in the audience could hear his strangely beautiful voice and they clapped and cheered as they sang.
"When the world becomes a fantasy"
"And you're more than you could ever be"
"Cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open"
"And we know we can't be go back again"
"To the world that we were living in"
"Cause we're dreaming with our eyes wide open"
("Hey!")
"When the world becomes a fantasy"
"And you're more than you could ever be"
"Cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open"
"And we know we can't be go back again"
"To the world that we were living in"
"Cause we're dreaming with our eyes wide open"
"Cause we're dreaming with our eyes wide open"
"So come alive! (Come alive!) (Yeah!)"
Everything seemed to become quite. Quasimodo couldn't believe it. They were cheering. They were cheering for him. Well probably not just him obviously but still he felt alive! More than he'd ever been before He almost didn't want this night to end but he knew it wouldn't be his only show. After all this was his home now and these people, where his family for once in his life he finally felt free!
