Izzy POV
"Alec!" I called out. "Izzy?" he questioned sounding exhausted. "Look straight ahead, Persephone is coming! Activate your stamina rune," I yelled. He did as I told him and looked ready to fight the demon coming to us. "Persephone and her followers are really getting on my nerves," Alec said with a laugh. "Alexander! How can you be laughing? It's almost impossible to kill her," I said. "No it isn't, under her left wing is her weak spot. If I have a clear shot to fire an arrow or two, that should take her out right away," my brother said confidently. "I'll distract her Alec. Take your shot when you see it," I said. With that statement, I ran off to distract the bastard. After a couple minutes of fighting, Persephone dissolved into thin air. 'Alec' I thought with a smile. He now stood in front of me, a huge smile plastered to his face, "Told ya I could kill her," he said. "Yeah yeah. Good job Alec," I responded with a smile of my own. "Okay now let's get back to the Institute. I wanna train," he told me. "Train?! Are you out of your mind? After fighting Persephone and her possessed disciples? It's official. You've lost you mind Alec." I said with a straight face. He just chuckled and dragged me in the direction of the Institute.
Alec POV
I walked through the doors of the Institute to see a very confused Lydia Branwell standing before me. "Lydia? What's wrong?" I questioned. "Alec..." she trailed off. "Lydia you're worrying me! What happened?" I questioned louder this time. "Calm down Alec," Izzy said quietly. "Wait. You didn't find Jace, did you?" I whispered. Izzy's eyes immediately went to Lydia, awaiting the answer. "Huh? Oh, sorry. Umm no we didn't find him." she said apologetically, coming out of her trance. "This is something else. And I have a huge favor to ask you." Lydia continued. "Anything. You know this place is my home," I told her with a smile. Lydia stepped out of the way and there standing was a redheaded girl. She looked about eighteen years old, just two years younger than me. She was about five feet, six inches and had the prettiest green eyes I had ever seen. "Alec! Alec! ALEC!" I heard Iz yell. "Snap out of it Alec!" Izzy said. I realized I had been staring at the girl and turned back to her and apologized. "It's okay. I guess I appeared out of nowhere so you have every right to stare. My name is Clarissa Fray, Clary for short." the girl said. "My name's Alexander Lightwood, Alec to my friends. Pleasure to meet you Miss Fray," I said. "No. Don't call me Miss Fray. Clary works just fine," she said with a laugh. "And I'm this idiot's little sister, Izzy Lightwood," Iz said as she introduced herself to Clary. I couldn't help but laugh at that statement. "Alec, she's Jocelyn Fairchild's daughter," Lydia said. "WHAT?!" I yelled surprised. Clary winced, Izzy punched me and the rest of the Institute just stared at me. "Uhh why are you so surprised about that?" Clary asked. "Sorry. It's just that Jocelyn is a legend around here. She gave up on Shadowhunting about nineteen years ago, I guess now we know why," I said. "Lydia, what's she doing here, isn't she mundane?" I asked the head of the Institute. "No Alec. She assisted Zayn and his team in battle. She has the Sight," Lydia said quietly. "Oh wow. Okay that's a lot to take in for just one day. You said you had a favor? What is it?" I questioned. "Well, I want you to train her," Branwell said. "You want me to train her? Why me?" I asked quietly. "Alec, after Jace you're the best fighter this Institute has seen in centuries!" Lydia said. "Okay. I'll train her," I said. "Train me?! For what? I need to find my mother! She disappeared! I'm not going to stay here while I could be looking for my mother Alexander!" Clary yelled fiercely. 'Alexander'. Only my father and Izzy called me that occasionally. I took two steps forward and put my arms around Clary and stroked her hair even though I didn't know why. "Clary, if your mother is in fact Jocelyn Fairchild, she has hidden the Mortal Cup. The one thing Bloodworth is after, that means if you stay here we can help you find her," I said quietly.
Clary POV
I didn't even realize I had put my arms around Alec while he was talking until I was holding him so close like he was my lifeline. Something about him just made me feel safe. By now Lydia and Izzy were gone. "You can help me find my mom?" I asked him, close to tears. "Yes Clary. We can, I promise we will. I know what it's like to have the person you love the most disappear. I don't want that to happen to anyone else," Alec told me. "Wait! Who is 'Bloodworth'? What does he want with my mom? What's the Mortal Cup? What are Shadowhunters? How did I fight like that back at the concert?" I asked in a hurry. Alec chuckled. "Can I explain tomorrow?" he asked. "Sure, but I need to get home now," I responded. "No Clary. You can't go home. With Jocelyn gone, my best guess is Bloodworth knows you live there. You're not safe there. You can stay here at the Institute with me and Iz." Alec said with a smile I couldn't say no to. He led me to a bedroom and gave me a bag full of clothes, towels and everything I could possibly need while I was staying there. "Thank you Alec, for everything," I told him sincerely. "No problem Clary. Get some rest. I have lots of explaining to do tomorrow. Oh and one more thing, Jocelyn is a Fairchild in the Shadow World, that means so are you. Your name here will be Clary Fairchild. Not Fray." he said before he walked away. With that, I fell asleep and dreamt of my mother.
